The industry's mechanical equipment often faces a significant demand for damping rubber. Simultaneously improving damping and toughness of rubber materials is a challenging task. It was achieved by incorporating crystal particles into the chlorinated butyl rubber (CIIR) network, inspired by the "sliding crystal mechanism". To create the elastomers with high damping and toughness, polyurethane was used along with polyethylene glycol as a soft segment. The combination factors, including coordination and hydrogen bonds, played a crucial role in facilitating the formation of crystal particles within the material. These crystal particles acted as rigid fillers, enhancing the material's toughness. Additionally, the sacrificial reversible bonds present in the crystal particles allowed for energy dissipation during stress. These bonds can be repeatedly broken and regenerated, enabling the material to dissipate energy efficiently. Comparing these elastomers to pure CIIR, they exhibited a tensile strength and elongation at break of 5.76 MPa and 1973%, a fracture energy of 28.73 MJ/m3, a damping factor of 1.52, and a damping temperature range of 80 °C. These results indicate significant improvements in both damping and toughness properties. In the burgeoning field of bioinspired materials, the principles governing biological perception and self‐healing drive advancements in biomimetic mechano‐responsive materials, seamlessly integrating ionic signal sensing with self‐healing. While current research often emphasizes individual functionalities, the concurrent enhancement of both self‐healing and sensitivity in iontronic skins is often overlooked. Drawing inspiration from transmembrane proteins like TSP‐15, Piezo 1 and Piezo 2, renowned for recruiting repair factors, multifunctional molecular‐ionic regulatory sites are constructed within a polyurethane/ionic liquid composite system, leading to the development of a mechano‐responsive elastomer (i‐DAPU) that exhibited both rapid self‐healing (72 µm min−1) and impressive sensitivity (7012.05 kPa−1). Leveraging the dual functionalities of i‐DAPU in tandem with deep learning algorithms, a sophisticated system is devised for intelligently analyzing neural conditions in comatose patients based on muscle strength, achieving a remarkable 99.2% accuracy rate, holding significant promise for healthcare applications. Effects of xanthene dyes and aerosil nanoparticles on the structure and dynamic characteristics of the cross-linked polyurethane were investigated by the IR-spectroscopy, dynamic-mechanical analysis, and electronic paramagnetic resonance methods. Dye molecule presence causes self-association of urethane groups within polymer rigid segments, weaker interactions between urethane groups and flexible oligoether parts and increased oligoether mobility. Increased mobility of flexible segments by xanthene dyes provides the necessary beam strength due to compensating the nanofiller network effect. Current petrochemical-based adhesives adversely affect the environment through substantial volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions during production, contributing to air pollution and climate change. In contrast, vegetable oils extracted from bio-resources provide a compelling alternative owing to their renewability, abundance, and compatibility with adhesive formulation chemistry. This review aimed to critically examine and synthesize the existing scholarly literature on environmentally friendly, sustainable, and high-performance polyurethane adhesives (PUAs) developed from vegetable oils. The use of PUAs derived from vegetable oils promises to provide a long-term replacement while simultaneously maintaining or improving adhesive properties. This quality renders these adhesives appropriate for widespread use in various sectors, including construction, automotive manufacturing, packaging, textile, and footwear industries. This review intended to perform a comprehensive assessment and integration of the existing research, thereby identifying the raw materials, strengths, weaknesses, and gaps in knowledge concerning vegetable oil-based PUAs. In doing so, it responded to these gaps and proposes potential avenues for future research. Therefore, this review accomplishes more than merely evaluating the existing research; it fosters the advancement of greener PUA technologies by identifying areas for improvement and innovation towards more sustainable industrial practices by showcasing vegetable oil-based PUAs as viable, high-performance alternatives to their petroleum-based counterparts. The alveoli, critical sites for gas exchange in the lungs, comprise alveolar epithelial cells and pulmonary capillary endothelial cells. Traditional experimental models rely on porous polyethylene terephthalate or polycarbonate membranes, which restrict direct cell-to-cell contact. To address this limitation, we developed AlveoMPU, a new foam-based mortar-like polyurethane-formed alveolar model that facilitates direct cell–cell interactions. AlveoMPU features a unique anisotropic mortar-shaped configuration with larger pores at the top and smaller pores at the bottom, allowing the alveolar epithelial cells to gradually extend toward the bottom. The underside of the film is remarkably thin, enabling seeded pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells to interact with alveolar epithelial cells. Using AlveoMPU, it is possible to construct a bilayer structure mimicking the alveoli, potentially serving as a model that accurately simulates the actual alveoli. This innovative model can be utilized as a drug-screening tool for measuring transepithelial electrical resistance, assessing substance permeability, observing cytokine secretion during inflammation, and evaluating drug efficacy and pharmacokinetics. Dielectric elastomers, such as thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), are widely used as the dielectric layer, encapsulation layer, and substrate of flexible and stretchable devices. To construct capacitors and actuators that work stably upon deformation, it has become urgent to investigate the evolution of dielectricity under stress and strain. However, the lack of effective methods for estimating the dielectric constant of elastomers under strain poses a big challenge. This study reports a device for the in situ measurement of the dielectric constant of TPU under strain. It is found that upon stretching TPU to a strain of 400%, its dielectric constant decreases from 8.02 ± 0.01 to 2.88 ± 0.25 (at 1 MHz). In addition, combined Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, the X-ray scattering technique, and atomic force microscopy were utilized to characterize the evolution of the microstructure under strain. The investigation under tensile strain reveals a decreased density and average size of polarized hard domains, along with a tendency of the molecular chains to align in parallel with the tensile stress. In organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) using disordered organic semiconductors, interface traps that hinder efficient charge transport, stability, and device performance are inevitable. Benchmark poly(9,9‐dioctylfuorene‐co‐bithiophene) (F8T2) liquid‐crystalline polymer semiconductor has been extensively investigated for organic electronic devices due to its promising combination of charge transport and light emission properties. This study demonstrates that high‐capacitance single‐layered ionic polyurethane (PU) dielectrics enable enhanced charge transport in F8T2 OFETs. The ionic PU dielectrics are composed of a mild blending of PU ionogel and PU solution, thereby forming a solid‐state film with robust interfacial characteristics with semiconductor layer and gate electrode in OFETs and measuring high capacitance values above 10 µF cm−2 owing to the combined dipole polarization and electric double layer formation. The optimized fabricated ionic PU‐gated OFETs exhibit a low‐voltage operation at −3 V with a remarkable hole mobility of over 5 cm2 V–1 s–1 (average = 2.50 ± 1.18 cm2 V–1 s–1), which is the highest mobility achieved so far for liquid‐crystalline F8T2 OFETs. This device also provides excellent bias‐stable characteristics in ambient air, exhibiting a negligible threshold voltage shift of −0.03 V in the transfer curves after extended bias stress, with a reduced trap density. ZnO is considered to be a good catalyst for the synthesis of polyurethanes (PUs) by alcoholysis of bisureas (BUs). ZnO tends to form Zn(NCO)2(NH3)2 in the presence of urea at high temperature, so does it in the alcoholysis of BUs. Here, attempt is made to understand the role Zn(NCO)2(NH3)2 plays in the alcoholysis of BUs. A loading of Zn(NCO)2(NH3)2 at 5 mol% is found to be sufficient to catalyze the polymerization and the reaction time is greatly cut from 40 h (catalyzed by ZnO) to 26 h, with similar chemical structures and properties. The tensile strength, elongation at break, and toughness for PU–Zn‐5 can reach 43.8 MPa, 330%, and 94.0 J cm−3, respectively. One‐pot synthetic strategy is then further introduced to improve the efficiency of the polymerization. Zn(NCO)2(NH3)2, BU, and PU can be synthesized in one‐pot, by adding ZnO, urea, diamine, LiBr, and diol sequentially. The feasibility of this one‐pot method is verified, indicated by the similar reaction time, chemical structures, molecular weight, thermal and mechanical properties. This one‐pot synthetic strategy offers an efficient way to synthesize PUs directly and simply from urea, diamines, and diols, which is beneficial for improving the molecular diversity of PUs. Polyurethane (PU) is a type of polymer, which exists in various forms in the environment. Very few studies are available concerning the structure or enzymatic mechanism of the microbial community, which can degrade PU. Degradation of PU remains a difficult problem with respect to the environmental and biological disciplines. This study mainly focused on identifying the micro-organisms able to degrade polyurethane and confirming the degradation by performing a plate assay, Sturm test and scanning electron microscopy. Optimal culture conditions for maximum PU degradation were also analyzed through classical methods. A soil burial test was conducted by placing polyurethane films in the soil for one month, and the microbe growing on the surface of polyurethane films—with a maximum degradation of 55%—was isolated and identified as Aspergillus versicolor (ARF5). The culture medium was also optimized with different physical and chemical parameters for maximum PU degradation. Although several force application concepts are known that can be used to deform shape memory polymers (SMPs) within the scope of programming, controlled deformation is challenging in the case of samples with a cylinder-like shape, which need to be homogeneously compressed starting from the lateral surface. To solve this problem, this contribution follows a material approach that takes advantage of four-dimensional (4D) printing. Fused filament fabrication (FFF) was used as an additive manufacturing (AM) technique to produce a thermoresponsive tool in a cylindrical shape from a polyether urethane (PEU) having a glass transition temperature (Tg) close to 55 °C, as determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Once it was 4D-printed, a sample of laser cut polyester urethane urea (PEUU) foam with a cylindrical wall was placed inside of it. Subsequent heating to 75 °C and keeping that temperature constant for 15 min resulted in the compression of the foam, because the internal stresses of the PEU were transferred to the PEUU, whose soft segments were completely molten at 65 °C as verified by DSC. Upon cooling to −15 °C and thus below the offset temperature of the soft segment crystallization transition of the PEUU, the foam was fixed in its new shape. After 900 days of storage at temperatures close to 23 °C, the foam recovered its original shape upon reheating to 75 °C. In another experiment, a 4D-printed cylinder was put into hibernation for 900 days before its thermoresponsiveness was investigated. In the future, 4D-printed tools may be produced in many geometries, which fit well to the shapes of the SMPs to be programmed. A general mechanism for catalytic urethane formation in the presence of acid catalysts, dimethyl hydrogen phosphate (DMHP), methanesulfonic acid (MSA), and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TFMSA), has been studied using theoretical methods. The reaction of phenyl isocyanate (PhNCO) and butan-1-ol (BuOH) has been selected to describe the energetic and structural features of the catalyst-free urethane formation. The catalytic activities of DMHP, MSA, and TFMSA have been compared by adding them to the PhNCO–BuOH model system. The thermodynamic properties of the reactions were computed by using the G3MP2BHandHLYP composite method. It was revealed that in the presence of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, the activation energy was the lowest within the studied set of catalysts. High fracture toughness at cryogenic temperature and radiation hardness can be conflicting requirements for the resins for the impregnation of superconducting magnet coils. The fracture toughness of different epoxy-resin systems at room temperature (RT) and at 77 K was measured, and their toughness was compared with that determined for a polyurethane, polycarbonate (PC) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Among the epoxy resins tested in this study, the MY750 system has the highest 77 K fracture toughness of KIC = 4.6 MPa√m, which is comparable to the KIC of PMMA, which also exhibits linear elastic behaviour and unstable crack propagation. The polyurethane system tested has a much higher 77 K toughness than the epoxy resins, approaching the toughness of PC, which is known as one of the toughest polymer materials. CTD101K is the least performing in terms of fracture toughness. Despite this, it is used for the impregnation of large Nb3Sn coils for its good processing capabilities and relatively high radiation resistance. In this study, the fracture toughness of CTD101K was improved by adding the polyglycol flexibiliser Araldite DY040 as a fourth component. The different epoxy-resin systems were exposed to proton and gamma doses up to 38 MGy, and it was found that adding the DY040 flexibiliser to the CTD101K system did not significantly change the irradiation-induced ageing behaviour. The viscosity evolution of the uncured resin mix is not significantly changed when adding the DY040 flexibiliser, and at the processing temperature of 60 °C, the viscosity remains below 200 cP for more than 24 h. Polyurethane (PU) is a versatile polymer with many applications in a wide range of products. A novel 3D printing technology called liquid additive manufacturing (LAM) extended its possibilities by generating PU elastomers with gradient properties in continuous processing. LAM, being a relatively new technique, has not been extensively researched, particularly in terms of the curing behavior of the liquid resin. In this work, we investigated the effect of composition on gelation time tGP as measured by time-resolved mechanical spectroscopy (TRMS) and analyzed using the Winter–Chambon criterion with the assistance of the IRIS software. This method is more accurate than the previous approach, which involved time sweeps with a constant frequency. It was found that the gel time tGP first decreased and then increased with increasing polyol ratio, ranging from 231 to 378 min. Furthermore, the crosslink densities of the different PU elastomers measured from the rheological and tensile tests were calculated and compared based on the theory of rubber elasticity. The crosslink density decreased with an increasing polyol ratio in both methods. However, the crosslink density values obtained from the rheological measurements were higher than those from the tensile tests. These findings demonstrate that adjusting the polyol ratio is an effective means of achieving gradient properties. In this study, the effect of temperature (below and above Tg) on the rate of crack growth and on the fatigue threshold energy release rate of a polyurethane (PU) adhesive is analysed. The effect on the results of the Paris law relation used is also investigated. Tests were performed under a displacement-control strategy and at different temperatures. Out of the experimental data, the threshold energy release rate was determined as a function of temperature, something which up until now has been much more common for adhesive systems other than polyurethane. Results showed that the threshold energy release rate diminishes with increasing temperature, while the crack growth rate increases for a given strain energy release rate. The ratio between the threshold energy release rate and critical strain energy release rate remained constant for tests above the Tg, indicating that fatigue tests need only be performed at one temperature when above the Tg at least for the range of temperatures considered in this study and for the adhesive tested. A Paris law relation taking into account the effect of R-ratio during the displacement-control fatigue tests proved effective in unifying results at different temperatures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The hierarchical carbonaceous nanofillers viz. carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT-COOH as 1D), hydroxylated few-layer graphene (FLG-OH as 2D), and hybrid 3D i.e., MWCNT-COOH immobilized into FLG-OH were dispersed into segmented thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) by twin-screw extrusion (TSE). The concentration of nanofillers was varied as 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 5 wt%. To increase the level of dispersion, hybrid 3D nanofillers were also incorporated into TPU by producing cellular structures through supramolecular self-assembly route (SSAR). The cellular structure in which the nanofillers were found to be uniformly dispersed was then compounded by TSE technique. The large-scale uniform dispersion was observed at higher loading (2 wt%) by SSAR followed by TSE when compared with direct TSE. Uniform dispersion was found at 1 wt% loading by direct TSE. PU nanocomposite film reinforced with 2 wt% hybrid 3D nanofillers showed good gas barrier property with ~63% reduction of helium gas permeability to 472 cm3/m2/day from 1287 cm3/m2/day of neat PU film. In this study cinnamaldehyde (CA) doped polyurethane cholesteryl pelargonate cholesteric liquid crystal composite membranes were produced and their properties were examined for use in biological applications. The relationship between the blood coagulation and protein adsorption was studied and the results showed that increasing CA concentration allowed an improvement in biological properties of them. Additionally, the effect of CA on the hyrophobicity of these membranes was investigated by determining water holding capacity, contact angles. The mechanical strength of these membranes were determined and it was found that their strength increased and the ability to elongate decreased with an increasing CA dopant concentration. Seamless expansion joints for small- and medium-span bridges attract engineers due to their acknowledged integrity (durability), driving comfort and noise attenuation. Traditional asphalt plugin joints are easy and cheap to install, but they are hindered by premature failures frequently observed in situ. Comparatively, polyurethane (PU) possesses good durability and toughness and excellent chemical resistance, etc. The purpose of this study is to identify the proper PU material and devise a new seamless expansion joint. As such, the mechanical properties of three PU materials were tested, including initial setting time, tensile strength, rupture strain, hardness, wheel rutting, adhesion to pavement, water absorption, and aging. The appropriate mass ratio was identified to be polyol/isocyanate = 100/105. Subsequently, monotonic tensile/compressive, vertical loading and low-cycle fatigue tests were performed on the four full-scale expansion joints. It revealed that the rate-dependent behavior rendered the PU material suitable for seamless joints, as it was softer to accommodate the low-rate longitudinal deformation and was stiffer to sustain the high-rate vehicle loadings. Furthermore, the inclined angle between the PU and pavement would ameliorate the strain status and is recommended for practical use. Experimental and numerical results were synthesized into a proposed alternative polyurethane-based design that reduces the vertical displacement and circumvents the possible early failures under the effect of dynamic traffic loading. Underwater adhesives with injectable, organic solvent‐free, strong, fast adhesion, and hemostatic properties have become an urgent need in biomedical field. Herein, a novel polyurethane underwater adhesive (PUWA) inspired by mussels is developed utilizing the rapid post‐cure reaction of isocyanate esterification without organic solvents. The PUWA is created through the injectable two component curing process of component A (biocompatible polyurethane prepolymer) and component B (dopamine modified lysine derivatives: chain extender‐LDA and crosslinker‐L3DA). The two‐component adhesive cures quickly and firmly underwater, with an impressive bonding strength of 40 kPa on pork skin and excellent burst pressure of 394 mmHg. Moreover, the PUWA exhibits robust adhesion strength in hostile environments with acid, alkali and saline solutions. Combined with excellent biocompatibility and hemostatic performance, the PUWA demonstrates effectively sealing wounds and promoting healing. A highly flexible, tunable morphology membrane with excellent thermal stability and ionic conductivity can endow lithium metal batteries with high power density and reduced dendrite growth. Herein, a porous Polyurethane (PU) membrane with an adjustable morphology was prepared by a simple nonsolvent–induced phase separation technique. The precise control of the final morphology of PU membranes can be achieved through appropriate selection of a nonsolvent, resulting a range of pore structures that vary from finger–like voids to sponge–like pores. The implementation of combinatorial DFT and experimental analysis has revealed that spongy PU porous membranes, especially PU−EtOH, show superior electrolyte wettability (472%), high porosity (75%), good mechanical flexibility, robust thermal dimensional stability (above 170 °C), and elevated ionic conductivity (1.38 mS cm−1) in comparison to the polypropylene (PP) separator. The use of PU−EtOH in Li//Li symmetric cell results in a prolonged lifespan of 800 h, surpasing the longevity of PU or PP cells. Moreover, when subjected to a high rate of 5 C, the LiFePO4/Li half‐cell with a PU−EtOH porous membrane displayed better cycling performance (115.4 mAh g−1) compared to the PP separator (104.4 mAh g−1). Solid‐state lithium metal batteries (SSLMBs) have gained extensive attraction as one kind of next‐generation energy storage device. However, the drawbacks of flammability, low mechanical strength, and low ionic conductivity limit the further development of solid‐state polymer electrolytes (SPEs). In this work, a reactive flame‐retardant unit into the polymer framework via covalent bonding to create a nonflammable and stretchable polyurethane‐based SPEs is introduced. Meanwhile, the mechanical strength of the polymer backbone is increased by grafting a rigid benzene ring unit, which remarkably suppresses the lithium‐dendrite growth. As a result, these inflammable SPEs do not burn after contact with flames for 6 s. Furthermore, the obtained SPE expands the electrochemical stability window up to 5.1 V. Small monomers containing bromine decompose on the surface of lithium metal creating a LiBr riched solid electrolyte interface (SEI). Li|SPEs|Li symmetric battery offers a stable cycling life for more than 2100 h at 0.2 mA cm−2 and 0.2 mAh cm−2. The LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2|SPEs|Li cell equipped with the integrated cathode delivers a 142.1 mAh g−1 capacity after 330 cycles at 0.3 C with 85.2% capacity retention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Non-isocyanate polyurethane synthesis by non-Sn catalysis is an essential challenge toward green polyurethane synthesis. Bismuth compounds are attractive candidates due to their low cost, low toxicity, and availability to urethane chemistry. This work applied various Bi catalysts to the self-polycondensation of a bishydroxyurethane monomer and found BiCl3 to be an excellent catalyst through optimization. The catalytic activity and price of BiCl3 are comparable to those of Bu2SnO, while its toxicity is significantly low. BiCl3 is, therefore, a promising alternative to Sn-based catalysts in non-isocyanate polyurethane synthesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The entanglement of fibers can form physical and topological structures, with the resulting bending and stretching strains causing localized changes in pressure. In this study, a multi-layer polyurethane-fiber-prepared (MPF) sensor was developed by coating the CNT/PU sensing layer on the outside of an elastic electrode through a wet-film method. The entangled topology of two MPFs was utilized to convert the stretching strain into localized pressure at the contact area, enabling the perception of stretching strain. The influence of coating mechanical properties and surface structure on strain sensing performance was investigated. A force regulator was introduced to regulate the mechanical properties of the entangled topology of MPF. By modifying the thickness and length proportion of the force regulator, the sensitivity factor and sensitivity range of the sensor could be controlled, achieving a high sensitivity factor of up to 127.74 and a sensitivity range of up to 58%. Eight sensors were integrated into a sensor array and integrated into a dance costume, successfully monitoring the multi-axis motion of the dancer's lumbar spine. This pilot investigation identifies the influence that changing the process variables of curing pressure, curing temperature, and mix ratio of a polyurethane/agglomerated cork matrix has on the mechanical properties of energy absorption, Young's modulus of elasticity, and spring stiffness in safety helmets intended for micro-transport riders. The results are compared to expanded polystyrene, a material commonly used in micro-transport helmets. Mechanical testing of the various samples found that, over the range tested, curing pressure had no effect on any of the mechanical properties, while increasing amounts of resin caused a stiffer structure, and increasing curing temperature led to increased energy absorption. Consistent with the elastic modulus findings, all polyurethane/agglomerated cork test samples demonstrated higher median levels of spring stiffness, ranging from 7.1% to 61.9% greater than those found for expanded polystyrene. The sample mixed at a 1.5:1 binder/cork ratio and cured at 40 °C displayed the closest spring stiffness to EPS. While the mechanical properties of the eco-friendly polyurethane/agglomerated cork matrix did not match those of expanded polystyrene, the difference in performance found in this study is promising. Further investigation into process variables could characterise this more ecologically based matrix with equivalent energy-absorbing and structural characteristics, making it equivalent to currently used expanded polystyrene and suitable for use in micro-transport helmets. Fluorinated polyurethane (FPU) is a new kind of polyurethane (PU) material with great applicational potential, which is attributed to its high bond energy C-F bonds. Its unique low surface energy, excellent thermal stability, and chemical stability have attracted considerable research attention. FPU with targeted performance can be precisely synthesized through designing fluorochemicals as hard segments, soft segments, or additives and changes to the production process to satisfy the needs of coatings, clothing textiles, and the aerospace and biomedical industries for materials that are hydrophobic and that are resistant to weathering, heat, and flames and that have good biocompatibility. Here, the synthesis, structure, properties, and applications of FPU are comprehensively reviewed. The aims of this research are to shed light on the design scheme, synthesis method, structure, and properties of FPU synthesized from different kinds of fluorochemicals and their applications in different fields and the prospects for the future development of FPU. Conventional paint spraying processes often use small molecule organic solvents and emit a large amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that are highly toxic, flammable, and explosive. Alternatively, the spraying technology using supercritical CO2 (scCO2) as a solvent has attracted attention because of its ability to reduce VOC emissions, but the flow characteristics of coatings have not been thoroughly studied. Therefore, we numerically simulate the spraying process based on the actual process of scCO2 spraying polyurethane coatings by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The effects of inlet pressure and volume fraction of scCO2 on the fluid motion parameters inside the nozzle as well as the atomization effect of droplets outside the nozzle are investigated. The simulated results show that a fluid with a large volume fraction of scCO2 will obtain a smaller density, resulting in a larger velocity and a larger distance for the spray to effectively spray. Higher coating content and bigger inlet pressures will result in higher discrete phase model (DPM) concentrations, and thus a bigger inlet pressure should be used to make the droplets more uniform across the 30° spray range. Two polyurethanes (PUs) were similarly synthesized by reacting a cycloaliphatic isocyanate with 1,4-butanediol and two polyols of different nature (polyester, polycarbonate diol) with molecular weights of 1000 Da. Only the PU synthesized with polycarbonate diol polyol (YCD) showed intrinsic self-healing at 20 °C. For assessing the mechanism of intrinsic self-healing of YCD, a structural characterization by molecular weights determination, infrared and X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopies, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis was carried out. The experimental evidence concluded that the self-healing at 20 °C of YCD was due to dynamic non-covalent exchange interactions among the polycarbonate soft segments. To prepare a new type of multi-functional medical dressing, polyurethane (PU) nanofiber membranes loaded with different mass fractions of Nigella sativa seed extract (NSS) were prepared by electrospinning method to explore their application potential in wound dressing. The mechanical properties, hydrophilicity, swelling property, air permeability, antioxidant property, antibacterial property and cytotoxicity of the nanofiber membranes were characterized. The experimental results showed that the fiber diameter of PU/NSS nanofiber membranes increased with the increase of NSS mass fractions. The addition of NSS improved the hydrophilicity of PU nanofiber membrane, and the water contact angle decreased from (124.65±0.96)° to (29.90±0.49)°. The flavonoids active substances in NSS made PU/NSS nanofiber membranes have excellent antioxidant and antibacterial properties. The scavenging rate of 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical could be up to (59.98±0.86)%. The inhibition rates of E.coli and S.aureus were (99.08±0.38)% and (97.30±0.36)%, respectively. The cytotoxicity test results showed that PU/NSS nanofiber membranes had good biocompatibility. The availability of carbon nanotube (CNT)-based polymer composites allows the development of surface-attached self-sensing crack sensors for the structural health monitoring of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. These sensors are fabricated by integrating CNTs as conductive fillers into polymer matrices such as polyurethane (PU) and can be applied by coating on RC structures before the composite hardens. The principle of crack detection is based on the electrical change characteristics of the CNT-based polymer composites when subjected to a tensile load. In this study, the electrical conductivity and electro-mechanical/environmental characterization of smart skin fabricated with various CNT concentrations were investigated. This was performed to derive the tensile strain sensitivity of the smart skin according to different CNT contents and to verify their environmental impact. The optimal CNT concentration for the crack detection sensor was determined to be 5 wt% CNT. The smart skin was applied to an RC structure to validate its effectiveness as a crack detection sensor. It successfully detected and monitored crack formation and growth in the structure. During repeated cycles of crack width variations, the smart skin also demonstrated excellent reproducibility and electrical stability in response to the progressive occurrence of cracks, thereby reinforcing the reliability of the crack detection sensor. Protein-stable coverage of the artificial implant is a key problem for biocompatibility. In the present study, a protein layer was attached covalently to a polyurethane surface treated by an ion beam. A plasma system consisting of a vacuum chamber (0.8 Pa pressure) with a high voltage electrode powered by a short pulse (20 μS pulse duration and 200 Hz pulse repetition) generator was designed. Polyurethane with a formulation certified as a material for medical implants was treated by nitrogen ions with an energy of 20 keV and 5 × 1014–1016 ions/cm2 fluence range. Wettability measurements, X-ray photoelectron, Raman, Fourier transform infrared attenuated total reflection, and ellipsometry spectra showed a significant change in the structure of the surface layer of the treated polyurethane. The surface of the treated polyurethane contained a carbonised layer containing condensed aromatic clusters with terminal free radicals. The surface energy of polyurethane surface increased from 33 to 65 mJ/m2. The treated polyurethane surface became capable of adsorbing and chemically binding protein (fibrinogen). Plastic degradation by biological systems emerges as a prospective avenue for addressing the pressing global concern of plastic waste accumulation. The intricate chemical compositions and diverse structural facets inherent to polyurethanes (PU) substantially increase the complexity associated with PU waste management. Despite the extensive research endeavors spanning over decades, most known enzymes exhibit a propensity for hydrolyzing waterborne PU dispersion (i.e., the commercial Impranil DLN-SD), with only a limited capacity for the degradation of bulky PU materials. Here, we report a novel cutinase (CpCut1) derived from Cladosporium sp. P7, which demonstrates remarkable efficiency in the degrading of various polyester-PU materials. After 12-h incubation at 55°C, CpCut1 was capable of degrading 40.5% and 20.6% of thermoplastic PU film and post-consumer foam, respectively, while achieving complete depolymerization of Impranil DLN-SD. Further analysis of the degradation intermediates suggested that the activity of CpCut1 primarily targeted the ester bonds within the PU soft segments. The versatile performance of CpCut1 against a spectrum of polyester-PU materials positions it as a promising candidate for the bio-recycling of waste plastics. Recent advances have unveiled microbial degradation and enzymatic depolymerization as promising waste PU disposal strategies. In this study, we ident ified a gene encoding a cutinase from the PU-degrading fungus Cladosporium sp. P7, which allowed the expression, purification, and characterization of the recombinant enzyme CpCut1. Furthermore, this study identified the products derived from the CpCut1 catalyzed PU degradation and proposed its underlying mechanism. Polyurethane/2-hydoxyethyl methacrylate (PU/2-HEMA) hybrids with the modifying properties of unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) were prepared through two steps of polymerization. In the first step, polyurethane prepolymers (PUA) were prepared with an NCO/OH ratio of 2.2 by a polyaddition reaction based on isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), polyoxypropylene glycol (PPG 2000), and PPG 2700. In the second step, the hybrid was prepared by adding and mixing different contents of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) to prepolymer polyurethane (PUA). The effect of PUA and PUA/2-HEMA hybrid on the physicomechanical properties of UPR films was studied, including viscosity, compressive strength, hardness, thixotropy, and gamma radiation resistance. The addition of PUA/2-HEMA hybrids improved the physical and mechanical properties of UPR more than the addition of PUA owing to the existence of functional groups derived from PUA and PUA/2-HEMA, such as NCO, double bonds, and NH, which can establish cross-linking between UPR and PUA, as well as between UPR and PUA/2-HEMA. The findings demonstrate that the mechanical properties improve with dose, indicating cross-linking involving the double bonds of 2-HEMA, NH, C=O, as well as the ether group over oxidative degradation. However, an increase in 2-HEMA content in PUA hybrids increases the gamma radiation resistance, tensile, and compressive strengths demonstrating that cross-linking leads over oxidative degradation. This is attributed to the formation of the polymeric network as a result of cross-linking between PUA and 2-HEMA as indicated in the experimental results shown in Table 3 and Schemes 2 and 3. Catalysts are often employed to enable nonisothermal reaction kinetic studies when tracking cure progression of polyurethane reactions. However, when quickly reacting, catalyzed materials are prepared through mixing followed by the addition of fillers or additives, subsequent processing of the partially reacted material becomes difficult. Here, chemorheology is used to track changes in viscoelastic properties of uncatalyzed polybutadiene‐diisocyanate reactions for multiple days, which quantifies the degree of cure during polymerization. Viscosity profiles are accurately captured by the two‐stage Arrhenius model (r2>0.95), and conversion progress is adequately represented by the Kamal–Sourour model (r2>0.76). Transition state analysis via Wynne–Jones–Eyring–Evans theory (WJEE) reveals the presence of an associative mechanism according to entropic and enthalpic activation energies ΔS# = −96.9 J K−1 and ΔH# = 36.4 kJ, respectively. These rheokinetic modeling results align with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy findings. To the knowledge, no rheokinetic studies have tracked cure progress of this uncatalyzed system for the extended timeframe presented here. The cure profile also presents unique viscosity growth, representative of molecular weight buildup, compared to catalyzed systems. This finding emphasizes the novelty of applying previously developed chemorheological models to multiday thermosetting reactions within a flow field in a manner that is generalizable to many long‐term curing systems. Polyurethane elastomers are among the most versatile classes of industrial polymers—typically achieved through a two-step synthesis of segmented block copolymers, comprising very long and soft segments that provide elasticity and significantly long and hard segments that provide strength. The present research focused on the design of a single-step synthesis of a new segmented polyurethane consisting of very short soft and hard segments, crosslinked by preferentially side-reacted hierarchical tertiary oligo-uret network structures, thus exhibiting significant strength, elasticity, and toughness. Despite the theoretically linear structure, both FTIR and solid-state 13C NMR spectroscopy analyses indicated the quasi-equal presence of urethane groups and tertiary oligo-uret structures in the resulting polymer, indicating a preferential consecutive side reaction mechanism. Thermal analysis indicated the significant crystallization of soft segments consisting of only four ethylene oxide units, which was, hereby, demonstrated to occur via an extended chain mechanism. Tensile mechanical properties included significant strength, elasticity, and toughness. Increasing the soft segment length led to a decreased tertiary oligo-uret secondary crosslinking efficacy. The preferential hierarchical side reaction mechanism was, hereby, further confirmed through the synthesis of a completely new type of hyper-branched polymer via diisocyanate and a mono-hydroxy-terminated reagent. The structure–property relations and reaction mechanisms demonstrated in the present research can facilitate the design of new polyurethanes of enhanced performance and processing efficacy for a variety of novel applications. Polyurethanes (PUs) are versatile polymers used in industries at large scale. PUs are in used in the form of foam, elastomers, adhesives, fibers, thermosets, thermoplastics, etc. Polyols and isocyanates are the two compounds used to synthesize PU. Day by day increasing price of crude oil and its destructive impact on the environment motivate researchers to develop bio‐PU. Seed oils are attracting nowadays because of their renewability and low cost. They are the best substitutes for fossil fuel‐based polyol used in the preparation of PUs. However, these bio‐based PUs show lower thermal, mechanical properties, which needs improvement to further their utilization. The need to maintain a cleaner environment for the survival of both aquatic and terrestrial lives including human beings is very crucial and is a subject of increasing concern to the environmentalists. The removal of heavy metals, dyes, and organic pollutants from wastewater before their discharge in the environmental is very important due to its polluting effect on the underground water. With the increasing awareness of marine ecological environment, biocide-free marine antifouling coatings have been gaining increased attention in the field of marine antifouling. Among all the antifouling approaches, constructing fouling-release coatings (FRCs) may be the most effective and economical way caused by the biocide-free. However, the low mechanical strength, weak adhesion to substrates, and poor static fouling resistance of traditional silicone-based FRCs, which limiting their applications. In this work, we synthesized a polyurethane with hydroxyl terminated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), polytetrahydrofuran (PTMG) and isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) as main chains, 2,2'-Bis (hydroxymethyl)butyric acid (DMBA) as chain extender, and γ-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (KH-550) as crosslinker by condensation polymerization. Meanwhile, Triclosan (TCS) was used as an antibacterial agent and mixed into the polymer system with uniformly dispersed. We introduced urethane groups into silicone, which improved the mechanical strength (ultimate tensile strength: 1.379 MPa, elongation at break: 282%). As a result, the laboratory bioassays using bacteria (E. coli, and S. aureus) showed that the anti-bacterial efficiency could respectively reach ∼95% and ∼93%, which demonstrated an outstanding antifouling property of the D:K = 0.7:1.3/1.0. In this study, carbon-carbon double bonds and catechol groups modified oligochitosan (OCS)/photocurable polyurethane composite films (OPU) were prepared for wound dressing application. Methacrylic anhydride (MA) was used to modify oligochitosan. The effect of the ratio of amino groups on OCS to MA on the properties of the composite films was investigated. The results showed that the OPU films possessed the best overall performance in hydrophilicity, mechanical strength, adhesion properties, and antibacterial activity when the ratio of amino groups on OCS to MA was 4:2. Diamond nanoparticles/urethane-based bio-adhesives (ND-U-BA) were synthesized via in-situ polymerization. Chemical structure and curing kinetics of the samples were studied by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Results showed NDs controlled the curing profile of samples. Thermal and crystalline properties were studied using differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction analyses. Results indicated hard segments had higher ordering levels in the presence of NDs which is due to the lower hydrogen bonding among polyurethane chains. Mechanical results showed ND-U-BA had higher adhesion strength due to the formation of chemical crosslinks and a controlled curing mechanism. This study focuses on producing polyurethane dispersion (PUD)/carboxylated nitrile butadiene rubber (XNBR) blends with different types of crosslinkers without both accelerators and sulphur. Two types of crosslinkers: epoxide crosslinker and organo-modified siloxane, are introduced in the PUD/XNBR (blending ratio of 80:20). The zeta potential and particle size of the PUD/XNBR blends were determined using a dynamic light-scattering nanoparticle analyser. The chemical interaction and surface roughness of the PUD/XNBR blends were evaluated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The zeta potential and particle size of the PUD were influenced by XNBR blending and the types of crosslinkers. FTIR observations indicate that the XNBR and the crosslinkers facilitated intermolecular hydrogen bonding and different extents of ordered hydrogen bonding. A higher degree of ordered hydrogen bonding can be associated with a higher surface roughness of the PUD/XNBR blends. Nevertheless, the hybrid crosslinkers can be used to achieve reasonable surface roughness for the easier donning of latex gloves. A new method of ballast stabilization wherein a layer of geogrid is placed toward the bottom of the ballast layer, and the top zone of ballast beyond the geogrid influence zone is treated with polyurethane, was investigated in this study. The deformation and degradation behavior of geogrid–polyurethane composite-stabilized ballast (CSB) was assessed based on large-scale cyclic tests conducted at a frequency (f) of 32 Hz. The test results indicated that the CSB had significantly reduced vertical and lateral deformations, by about 63% and 65.9%, respectively, compared with those of unstabilized ballast (USB), and by 38.8% and 26% compared with those of geogrid-stabilized ballast (GSB). Furthermore, the composite stabilization helped to improve the resilient modulus from 216.75 to 280.83 MPa, the damping ratio from 0.230 to 0.340, and the track stiffness from 41.33 to 68.13 MN/m compared with the values for USB. The breakage of ballast also was reduced significantly owing to ballast–polyurethane bonds that remained intact even after 250,000 load cycles. It was found that the geogrid placement location and its corresponding influence zone play a significant role in the overall performance of CSB. The test results further indicated that the geogrid when placed 76 mm from the ballast–subballast interface and a polyurethane treatment depth of 152 mm measured from the sleeper soffit exhibited significantly improved performance under cyclic loading. High‐energy‐density and cost‐effective lithium‐rich oxides (LRO) are considered as the promising cathode materials for the next‐generation lithium‐ion batteries . Nevertheless, the elevated cut‐off voltage and the complex interface interactions have presented significant challenges that can lead to material degradation. Specifically, the inevitable release of lattice oxygen and the highly reactive interface‐driven irreversible migration of transition metal (TM) ions in LRO make the construction of a robust interface extremely important. Herein, an effective and efficient coating approach is applied to stabilize the interface structure of LRO by introducing a coordination bond between the strong ligand of polyurethane (PU) and the surface of LRO particles. This functional coating stabilizes the crystal field stabilization energies of LRO by acting as a strong ligand in spectrochemistry to form a coordination bond with Mn4+ in Li2MnO3 at high voltage. Consequently, irreversible oxygen release and TM ions migration are greatly inhibited. Overall, the LRO‐PU cathode exhibits superior electrochemical cyclability with a retention of 80.0% at 1C after 300 cycles and enhanced rate capability with a retention of 80.9% at 0.1C after rate cycles, marking a significant step toward commercial implementation. With the vigorous development of the Internet of Things, 5G technology, and artificial intelligence, flexible wearable sensors have received great attention. As a simple and low-cost power supply in wearable sensors, the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has a wide range of applications in the field of flexible electronics. However, most polymers are thermally poor conductors (less than 0.1 W/(m·K)), resulting in insufficient heat dissipation performance and limiting the development of TENG. In this study, a high-performance non-woven fabric TENG with strong thermal conductivity (0.26 W/m·K) was achieved by introducing ZrB2 into the polyurethane (PU) matrix. The excellent output performance with an open circuit voltage (Voc) of 347.6 V, a short circuit current (Isc) of 3.61 μA, and an accumulated charge of 142.4 nC endows it with good sensitivity. The electrospun PU/ZrB2 composites exhibit excellent sensing performance to detect body movements in situ, such as pressing, clapping, running, and walking. Invisible orthodontic aligners are having a great impact on tooth movement in an aesthetic and effective way. Different techniques, models, and clinical aspects have been studied for their proper use. However, the aim of this research has been to determine the effect of the shaping process on mechanical properties and their bacterial behavior. For this study, 40 original polyurethane plates and 40 identical models, obtained by hot forming the original plates, were used. The static tensile mechanical properties were studied with a Zwick testing machine using testing speeds of 5 mm/min at a temperature of 37 °C. The original plate and the aligner have been studied with a creep test by subjecting the samples to a constant tension of 30 N, and determining the elongation using a long-distance, high-resolution microscope at different time periods between 1 and 720 h. Studies of water absorption has been realized with artificial saliva for 5 h. Bacterial cultures of Streptococcus oralis and Actinomyces viscosus strains were grown on the original plates and on new and used models, to determine the proliferation of each bacterium through metabolic activity, colony-forming units, and LIVE/DEAD assays. The mechanical results showed an increase in the strength of the inserts with respect to the models obtained from 3.44 to 3.95 MPa in the elastic limit and a lower deformation capacity. It has been proven that the transition zone in the creep curves lasts longer in the original plate, producing the rapid increase in deformation at a shorter time (400 h) in the aligner. Therefore, the shaping process reduces the time of dental correction exerted by the aligner. The results of the bacterial culture assays show an increase in the number of bacterial colonies when the aligners have been used and when the polyurethane is conformed due to the internal energy of the model, with respect to the original polyurethane. It has been observed that between the original plate and the aligner there are no statistically significant differences in water absorption and therefore the forming process does not affect water absorption. The acquisition of clean drinking water in regions with limited power sources has been a challenge of paramount concern. Solar stills have emerged as a popular and sustainable option for obtaining clean water in such regions. This process involves employing solar radiation to heat up water, which is then condensed to obtain potable water. The present study introduces a solar still system that is both cost-effective and energy-efficient, while simultaneously ensuring sustainability. Fabric-coated polyurethane rollers with capillary action enhance evaporation area, leading to notable performance improvements. Water vapour condensed on the cooling chamber's inclined aluminium plate and collected in the distillate chamber within the solar still. The thermal, energetic, and economic performance and productivity of the proposed model were evaluated. The fabricated solar still boasted maximum instantaneous system efficiency and exergy efficiency of approximately 62.16% and 7.67%, respectively. This system's cost-effectiveness and performance improvements are particularly noteworthy. The daily average distillate productivity of the proposed still was estimated at 1.14 L/m2, resulting in an annual production rate of 416.54 L/year. Textile material coated with one or more polymers have been developed continuously for several decades to improve properties and multiple advantages over the classic textile material. By choosing the appropriate polymer, coating technique, and manufacturing parameters, it is possible to create high-performance coating material with improved properties. Polyurethane highly used for coating in textile industry among other polymers because of its superior flexibility, weather resistance, and wear resistance. Several textile properties, including wear comfort, tensile strength, tear strength, wrinkle resistance, water contact angle, antibacterial properties, colour fastness, etc., can be significantly enhanced by polyurethanes coating. This article contains a comprehensive review of recent developments and research works concerning polyurethane's direct involvement as coatings to the textile substrates. This feature article presents an up-to-date review of polyurethane in textile applications. A novel castor oil-based polyols with fluorine-containing pendant groups (CO-FPOL) has been synthesized through ring-opening polymerization from castor oil (CO), propylene oxide (PO) and self-made 3-(3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluoro-octyloxymethyl)-Oxirane (TDFOMO). The TDFOMO was synthesized from 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-Tridecafluoro-1-octanol (TDFOL) and Epichlorohydrin (ECH). Then, the CO-FPOLs further reacted with a 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) to prepare a one-component fluorinated polyurethane coating (CO-FPUP). Strikingly, the fluorine content of CO-FPOL can be easily controlled, the thermal stability of CO-FPOL and CO-FPUP increased with the increasing of fluorine content. It was all found that with the fluorine content of CO-FPOL increasing from 0% to 17.72%, the static water contact angle of CO-FPUPs increased from 90° to 106°, and the static oil contact angle of CO-FPUPs increased from 20° to 54°. The XPS survey spectra revealed that the fluorine in the cured polyurethane would migrate to the surface easier due to the fluorinated pendant groups which moving easier between molecular chains. All the above results suggest that the introduction of fluorinated pendant groups in polyether polyol has great improvements in the thermal stability and the hydrophobic and oleophobic properties of polymer materials. Recent studies have shown that astronauts experience altered immune response behavior during spaceflight, resulting in heightened susceptibility to illness. Resources and resupply shuttles will become scarcer with longer duration spaceflight, limiting access to potentially necessary medical treatment and facilities. Thus, there is a need for preventative health countermeasures that can exploit in situ resource utilization technologies during spaceflight, such as additive manufacturing (i.e., 3D printing). The purpose of the current study was to test and validate recyclable antimicrobial materials compatible with additive manufacturing. Antimicrobial poly(lactic acid)- and polyurethane-based materials compatible with 3D printing were assessed for antimicrobial, mechanical, and chemical characteristics before and after one closed-loop recycling cycle. Our results show high biocidal efficacy (>90%) of both poly(lactic acid) and polyurethane materials while retaining efficacy post recycling, except for recycled-state polyurethane which dropped from 98.91% to 0% efficacy post 1-year accelerated aging. Significant differences in tensile and compression characteristics were observed post recycling, although no significant changes to functional chemical groups were found. Proof-of-concept medical devices developed show the potential for the on-demand manufacturing and recyclability of typically single-use medical devices using antimicrobial materials that could serve as preventative health countermeasures for immunocompromised populations, such as astronauts during spaceflight. Purpose: This study aims to extend the pot life without altering the qualities and performance of the coating, which is important to increase when manufacturing polyurethane coatings. Design/methodology/approach: An acrylic polyol from a mixture of different monomers of hydroxypropyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and n-butyl methacrylate was prepared with different ratios of 2,4-pentanedione as a pot life extender. The reaction takes place in presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide as initiator with samples (T1–T7). The physical properties of prepared acrylic polyol were characterized. Then, coating polyurethane varnish was prepared from the prepared acrylic polyol with an aliphatic polyisocyanate in a 1:1 equivalent ratio of OH:NCO at room temperature, in presence of paint thinner (diluents/solvent) and dibutyltin dilaurate as a catalyst to give samples (T1C–T7C). This coating was evaluated via Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, drying time, hardness and gloss, distinctness of image and reflected image quality. Findings: The coating has a prolonged pot life while still maintaining the other qualities, thanks to the greater 2,4-pentanedione content. Originality/value: It is desired to have a paint which has a satisfactory pot life, short curing time and reduces many drawbacks such as inefficient working and deterioration of the paint before application. The current research is oriented towards the development and assessment of the properties of the form‐stable phase change materials (PCMs), comprising of the thermoset polymer matrix (polyurethane, PU) enclosing capric acid (CA) as an active thermal energy storage (TES) component. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Field‐Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE‐SEM) have been used to characterize the chemical nature and morphological details of the developed PU‐based PCMs (PUPCMs). TES attributes and thermal stability of the resultant PCMs are evaluated by thermo‐analytical techniques such as Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). A thermal reliability test has been conducted to determine the phase change efficiency of the prepared PCMs. PUPCMs have been found to be suitable for TES applications, such as passive space heating or cooling building applications. The work investigates failure criteria and mean stress correction approaches for the fatigue lifetime prediction of two hyperelastic adhesives (a polyurethane, PU, and a silicon-modified polymer, SMP). Fatigue experiments are carried under constant amplitude cyclic loading at RT and 40°C/60% r.h with butt- and the thick-adherend-shear-test-joints at three stress ratios R = −1, 0.1 and 0.5. Three mean stress correction approaches are evaluated: Goodman (static strength based), Schütz (mean stress sensitivity based) and Kujawski & Ellyin (parameter optimisation based). Fatigue failure criteria considered are: Drucker-Prager (linear-relation with the hydrostatic stress), Beltrami (quadratic relationship with the hydrostatic stress), and a multivariable nominal shear and tensile stresses criterion (data-based). The comparison is based on prediction accuracy (R-squared of master SN curves) and complexity of parameter determination. The highest values of R-squared were obtained by the Kujawski and Ellyin correction, followed by Schütz and then Goodman. However, the complexity of parameter determination follows an opposite trend with Goodman being the lightest approach. Failure criteria yielded comparable results with the multivariable criterion having the advantage of not dealing with FEA, but being limited to joints with nearly uniform stress distribution. Finally, compared to Drucker-Prager, the Beltrami criterion had a more robust parameter determination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
