Abstract Background Various methods, chemical and physical, disinfect dental impressions. Common chemicals include 1% Sodium Hypochlorite and 2% glutaraldehyde, while UV radiation is a prevalent physical method. Few studies compare their effects on dimensional stability in polyether impressions. This study aims to assess such stability using different disinfection methods. Therefore, this study was planned to evaluate the dimensional stability of polyether impression material using different disinfection methods. Methods This in vitro study compared the effects of chemical disinfectants (1% Sodium Hypochlorite and 2% glutaraldehyde) and UV irradiation on the dimensional stability of polyether impression material. Groups A, B, C, and D, each with ten samples (N = 10), were studied. Group A was untreated (control). Group B was treated with 2% glutaraldehyde for 20 min, Group C with 1% Sodium Hypochlorite for 20 min, and Group D with UV rays for 20 min. A pilot milling machine drill was used to make four parallel holes labeled A, B, C, and D in the anterior and premolar regions from right to left. After sequential drilling, four implant analogs were positioned using a surveyor for accuracy. Ten open-tray polyether impressions were made and treated as described in the groups, followed by pouring the corresponding casts. Distortion values for each disinfection method were measured using a coordinate measuring machine capable of recording on the X- and Y-axes. Results A comprehensive analysis was conducted using the one-way ANOVA test for distinct groups labeled A, B, C, and D, revealing significant differences in the mean distances for X1, X2, X4, X5, and X6 among the groups, with p-values ranging from 0.001 to 0.000. However, no significant differences were observed in X3. Notably, mean distances for the Y variables exhibited substantial differences among the groups, emphasizing parameter variations, with p-values ranging from 0.000 to 0.033. The results compared the four groups using the one-way ANOVA test, revealing statistically significant distance differences for most X and Y variables, except for X3 and Y4. Similarly, post-hoc Tukey’s tests provided specific pairwise comparisons, underlining the distinctions between group C and the others in the mean and deviation distances for various variables on both the X- and Y-axes. Conclusions This study found that disinfection with 1% sodium hypochlorite or UV rays for 20 min maintained dimensional stability in polyether impressions.

They include certain foods, pollen, or pet dander.A dental impression is a negative impression of hard (teeth) and soft tissues in the oral cavity from which a positive reproduction (cast or model) can be acquired. It can be in liquid or semi-solid nature when first mixed and placed to the mouth. It then sets to become an elastic solid. The allergic reactions due to polyether impression materials manifest in the form of urticaria, swelling, rash and rhinorrhea which can also cause life threatening conditions like laryngeal oedema, anaphylaxis and cardiac arrhythmias. eugenol-containing products and polyether impression materials can induce an allergic risk to dental patients. It is important to note down any type of allergy while taking the medical history. Precautionary measures can be taken if the information is collected in a medical history. Background: Die silicone is used for making dies for chair side fabrication of inlays and onlays. Die silicone material is user friendly and fast setting but undergoes shrinkage. Aim: To compare the dimensional stability between Die stone and Die Silicone. Methods: A metal die with known dimensions is made. Impressions of the metal die are made with Polyether impression material. Dies are made out of Die Stone and Die Silicone. The Dimensions of the reproduced details are measured and compared. Results: Both Die Stone and Die Silicone produce comparable results. Conclusion: As Die Silicone is made of Polymer, its dimensional stability is a query. But in the study it was found that, they had similar results. With the advantages of fast setting, chipping and abrasion resistance, it would make Die Silicone a more user friendly material of choice for die making. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Background: Accurate recording of implant location is required so that definitive restorations are properly supported and do not place additional stresses on the implants. Movement of impression copings inside the impression material using an open-tray or close-tray impression technique during clinical and laboratory phases may cause inaccuracy in transferring the three-dimensional spatial orientation of implants intraorally to the definitive cast. Consequently, the restoration may require corrective procedures. Aim: This in vitro study compared the accuracy of two different impression techniques with two different impression coping shapes using polyether impression material to obtain precise definitive casts. Materials and Methods: Two reference acrylic resin models (Technovits 4000, Heraeus Kulzer GmbH & Co., Wehrheim, Germany) with five internal connection implants having different shapes of impression copings (Implantium [Dentium, Seoul, South Korea] and Replace Select [Nobel Biocare AB, Göteborg, Sweden]) were fabricated. Twenty medium-consistency polyether impressions of these models were made with square and conical impression copings of each system using open-tray and close-tray techniques. Matching implant replicas were screwed into the impression copings in the impressions. Impressions were poured with type IV stone, and the positional accuracy of the implant replica heads in x-, y-, and z-axes (represented in [Δr]) and also rotational displacement (ΔΘ) were evaluated using a coordinate measuring machine (Mistral, DEA Brown&Sharpe, Grugliasco, Italy). These measurements (linear and rotational displacements) were compared with the measurements calculated on the reference resin models that served as control, and data were analyzed with a two-way analysis of variance at α = 0.05. Results: Less inaccuracy occurred in less retentive shape impression copings (Replace Select) compared with the more retentive one (Implantium) ( pr < .001 and pΘ < .001), but there was no significant difference between direct and indirect impression techniques ( pr and pΘ > .05). Conclusion: The impression coping shape had more impact on impression inaccuracy than impression technique did. Understanding of the magnitude and variability of distortion when employing certain impression-making methods and impression coping shapes helps the clinician to select a better implant component and impression technique. Impression techniques should precisely represent the 3-dimensional status of implants to allow for the fabrication of passively fitting prostheses and subsequently the elimination of strain on supporting implant components and surrounding bone. The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy of an abutment level impression method with that of an implant level (direct and indirect) impression method using polyether impression material to obtain precise definitive casts and prostheses. A reference acrylic resin dentoform with 2 internal connection implants (Implantium) was made. A total of 21 medium-consistency polyether impressions of the dentoform, including 7 direct implant level, 7 indirect implant level, and 7 abutment level (after 2 straight abutments were secured), were made. Impressions were poured with American Dental Association (ADA) type IV stone, and the positional accuracy of the implant replica heads and abutment analogs in each dimension of x-, y-, and z-axes, as well as angular displacement (δθ), was evaluated using a coordinate measuring machine. Noble alloy 3-unit castings were fabricated and seated on the abutments in 3 groups; marginal discrepancies were measured at 4 points between prostheses and abutments. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test, 1-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Kruskal-Wallis tests. In comparisons of different impression techniques, only significant statistical δθ differences were noted between the abutment level method and other techniques (P < .001). Results of this study reveal that although the implant level impression method could better transfer the angular position of the implants (δθ), the impression method could not affect δy, δx, and δz coordinates of the implants or marginal discrepancy of the 3-unit fixed partial dentures (FPD). The Dual Arch trays have been used for more than three decades. These trays register impression of the opposing arches and simultaneously record the interocclusal relationship. They are convenient to use, impression taking takes less time, less material, and are comfortable for patient. Aim: Though several authors have described this dual arch technique, accuracy of casts generated still remains questionable because relatively little information and research is documented. The Purpose of this in--vitro study was to compare the accuracy of working dies made from impressions taken with dual arch impression trays. Material And Method: Dual arch impressions were made of left side of Typodont containing machined, circular stainless steel coronal preparation in the position of Maxillary left first molar region. Plastic dual arch trays were used with clinically proven and routinely used Elastomeric impression materials. A sample size of 20 was used to yield a total of 80 impressions. Results: the dies obtained were generally smaller in Mesio Distal and Buccolingual Heights and larger in dimension in Bucco Lingual Diameter than the stainless steel standard die. In general, dual arch trays resulted in more accurate dies when regular body Polyether impression material was used Discussion: Although statistically significant differences were found, the magnitude of these differences are clinically insignificant since the difference can be compensated by 2 coats of die relief.
