Abstract

A study of the retinoic acid-induced limb and lower-body duplications in mice reveals that exogenous trans-retinoic acid affects the hindlimbs and the entire lower body pattern. The embryos affected in the late blastocyst and proamniotic-embryo stages give rise to the probability that the pattern formation of limbs and lower body precede gastrulation. These duplications are also involved in other types of external malformation.
