Abstract

Excited states in the Z=19, N=29 neutron-rich 48K isotope have been studied using deep-inelastic transfer reactions with a thick target at Gammasphere and with a thin target at the PRISMA-CLARA spectrometer. The lowest excited states were located; they involve a proton hole in the s1/2 or d 3/2 orbital coupled to a p3/2 neutron. A new 7.1(5)-ns, 5+ isomer, the analog of the 7/2- isomer in 47K, was identified. Based on the observed γ-decay pattern of the isomer a revised spin-parity assignment of 1- is proposed for the ground state of 48K.

Abstract

Excited states in the N = 30 neutron-rich 49K have been studied using multi-nucleon transfer reactions with thin targets and the PRISMA-CLARA spectrometer combined with thick-target - coincidence data from Gammasphere. The d3/2 proton-hole state is located 92 keV above the s1/2 ground state and the proton-particle f7/2 state is suggested at 2104 keV. Three other levels are established as involving the coupling to 2+ of two neutrons above the N = 28 shell. The measured or estimated lifetimes served to reinforce the interpretation of the observed level structure which is found to be in satisfactory agreement with shell model calculations.

Abstract

Deep-inelastic and multi-nucleon transfer reactions can be used to populate nuclei with relatively large neutron excess. Recently, at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro, a setup consisting on an efficient gamma-ray detection system CLARA coupled to the large acceptance magnetic spectrometer PRISMA, capable of tracking the trajectories of the reaction products, has been assembled. During the first year of activity, the experiments performed with the CLARA-PRISMA setup, have been focused mainly on the nuclear structure of neutron-rich nuclei. Abstract

This paper describes the entrance detector of the magnetic spectrometer PRISMA recently installed at Legnaro. The detector is based on rectangular (80 x 100 mm(2)) Micro-Channel Plates (MCP). It provides a fast time signal and its position-sensitive anode allows to extract the X and Y information. It exploits an electrostatic field for the acceleration of secondary electrons from a thin Carbon foil (similar or equal to 20 mu g/cm(2)) onto the MCP assembly. The electrons are guided by a parallel magnetic field. Good performances were obtained in the laboratory tests. The detector is presently installed at the entrance of PRISMA and gives resolutions

Abstract

Measurements of fusion-evaporation cross-sections for the system48Ca +154Sm have been performed in the sub- and near-barrier energy range. Barrier-passing cross-sections have been obtained by adding recently measured capture-fission cross-sections at the same energies, and the barrier distribution for capture has been extracted. The data have been analyzed within a coupled-channel model, and a large subbarrier cross-section enhancement is observed, due to the ground-state prolate deformation of154Sm. The48Ca +154Sm capture cross-sections are compared to existing data on16O +186W fusion, leading to the same CN, where a few higher-energy points have also been measured. The evaporation residue cross-sections for the two systems above the barrier indicate that complete fusion is inhibited for48Ca +154Sm by ˜ 40% in that energy region, with respect to16O +186W.
