The use of electric vehicles (EVs) for household uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), particularly in rural areas, can greatly improve household power reliability. However, because EVs are mobile, the evaluation of backup capacity for EV-UPS systems is completely different when compared to traditional UPSs. As a result, the focus of this paper is on the evaluation and improvement of backup capacity for EV-UPS systems. The architectures for EV-UPS systems are presented first. The methodology for calculating backup capacity for EV-UPS systems is then presented, followed by four detailed cases based on different grid failure times. Furthermore, the impact of system operating parameters on backup capacity, such as different load power, EV mobility pattern parameters, and grid outage durations, is investigated. The results of backup capacity in cases of different operating parameters are detailed using an EV mobility model. An improved strategy for increasing backup capacity is proposed, in which more backup energy can be released during a power outage. Meanwhile, the next trip requirement is unaffected. The backup capacity with the improved strategy is then calculated and compared to the results with the traditional strategy. Finally, a 5 kW EV-UPS experimental platform is constructed, and the experimental results are presented to validate the proposed method.

Background Gas hydrate-bearing subseafloor sediments harbor a large number of microorganisms. Within these sediments, organic matter and upward-migrating methane are important carbon and energy sources fueling a light-independent biosphere. However, the type of metabolism that dominates the deep subseafloor of the gas hydrate zone is poorly constrained. Here we studied the microbial communities in gas hydrate-rich sediments up to 49 m below the seafloor recovered by drilling in the South China Sea. We focused on distinct geochemical conditions and performed metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analyses to characterize microbial communities and their role in carbon mineralization. Results Comparative microbial community analysis revealed that samples above and in sulfate-methane interface (SMI) zones were clearly distinguished from those below the SMI. Chloroflexota were most abundant above the SMI, whereas Caldatribacteriota dominated below the SMI. Verrucomicrobiota, Bathyarchaeia, and Hadarchaeota were similarly present in both types of sediment. The genomic inventory and transcriptional activity suggest an important role in the fermentation of macromolecules. In contrast, sulfate reducers and methanogens that catalyze the consumption or production of commonly observed chemical compounds in sediments are rare. Methanotrophs and alkanotrophs that anaerobically grow on alkanes were also identified to be at low abundances. The ANME-1 group actively thrived in or slightly below the current SMI. Members from Heimdallarchaeia were found to encode the potential for anaerobic oxidation of short-chain hydrocarbons. Conclusions These findings indicate that the fermentation of macromolecules is the predominant energy source for microorganisms in deep subseafloor sediments that are experiencing upward methane fluxes.

A novel real-time monitoring system for photovoltaic (PV) generation is presented in this paper. Internet of Things (IoT) integrated with cloud servers and terminal applications allow the remote monitoring of centralized or distributed photovoltaic systems. The proposed system could realize the networking communication of multiple nodes based on ZigBee, and upload the operational data to the cloud server via a 4G communications network. Then, the server selects three-phase current as the sample sets from the uploaded data to set up a composite current characteristic combining wavelet packet energy with waveform parameter, and establishes a fault diagnosis model based on the probabilistic neural network to analyze the health status of the PV inverter online. This method requires little sampling frequency without an extra signal and saves the cost of local devices by placing online diagnostics on the server-side. In addition, the user could query and store the running information of the PV systems through the personal computer-side web or mobile phone with remote control. This article presents the hardware design of ZigBee and the 4G module, and composition of the diagnosis model for open circuit failure of the PV inverter through the cloud server, building the user software at the application layer. The final experimental results show that the proposed system has better communication performance and higher diagnostic accuracy in real-time monitoring.

Drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) has become an increasingly serious public health problem and has complicated tuberculosis (TB) treatment. Levofloxacin (LOF) is an ideal anti-tuberculosis drug in clinical applications. However, the detailed molecular mechanisms of LOF-resistant M. tuberculosis in TB treatment have not been revealed. Our study performed transcriptome and methylome sequencing to investigate the potential biological characteristics of LOF resistance in M. tuberculosis H37Rv. In the transcriptome analysis, 953 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified; 514 and 439 DEGs were significantly downregulated and upregulated in the LOF-resistant group and control group, respectively. The KEGG pathway analysis revealed that 97 pathways were enriched in this study. In the methylome analysis, 239 differentially methylated genes (DMGs) were identified; 150 and 89 DMGs were hypomethylated and hypermethylated in the LOF-resistant group and control group, respectively. The KEGG pathway analysis revealed that 74 pathways were enriched in this study. The overlap study suggested that 25 genes were obtained. It was notable that nine genes expressed downregulated mRNA and upregulated methylated levels, including pgi, fadE4, php, cyp132, pckA, rpmB1, pfkB, acg, and ctpF, especially cyp132, pckA, and pfkB, which were vital in LOF-resistant M. tuberculosis H37Rv. The overlapping genes between transcriptome and methylome could be essential for studying the molecular mechanisms of LOF-resistant M. tuberculosis H37Rv. These results may provide informative evidence for TB treatment with LOF.

Ferroptosis is a novel form of regulated cell death characterized by accumulated lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inactivation of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4). The present study aimed to investigate the role of microRNA (miRNA/miR)-15a in ferroptosis of prostate cancer cells. Bioinformatics analysis was performed to predict the potential interaction between miR-15a and the 3′-untranslated region (UTR) of GPX4 mRNA. The prostate cancer cell line, LNCAP was transfected with miR-15a mimics or small interfering (si)-GPX4. Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blot analyses were performed to detect the mRNA and protein expression levels of GPX4, respectively. Biotin-RNA pull-down and dual-luciferase reporter assays were performed to verify the interaction between miR-15a and GPX4 mRNA. The Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was performed to assess cell proliferation, while lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and intracellular ferrous iron levels were detected via ELISA. Lipid ROS and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) were assessed via flow cytometry and staining with C11-BIODIPY probes or JC-1. Furthermore, lipid peroxidation was identified by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. The results demonstrated that transfection with miR-15a mimics decreased GPX4 protein expression. Bioinformatics analysis revealed potential binding sites between miR-15a and the 3′-UTR region of GPX4, and RNA pull-down and the dual-luciferase reporter assays further confirmed the interaction between miR-15a and GPX4 mRNA. Both transfection with miR-15a mimics and si-GPX4 suppressed cell proliferation, elevated LDH release, accumulated intracellular ferrous iron and ROS, disrupted MMP and increased MDA levels. Taken together, the results of the present study suggest miR-15a induces ferroptosis by regulating GPX4 in prostate cancer cells, which provides evidence for investigating the therapeutic strategies of prostate cancer.

The global climate and environmental variability can induce fish adaptive strategy change and form a corresponding complementary mechanism subsequently. Because of climate fluctuation, human activities, and water conservancy projects, it has been reported that natural fish resources of the silver carp have been declining in a wavy trend from 1950. However, few studies have explored the potential effects of determining the relationship between the adult fish and fish larvae. Using the field survey method, this study analyzed the fisheries resource status of the adult silver carp and its early life stage in the Yangtze River. Results indicated that different geographic populations showed significant habitat dependence, and the adult silver carp tends to choose habitats with slow water flow, rich biological bait, and less human interference. What is more, its distribution pattern has regional and seasonal differences obviously. Additionally, redundancy analysis on the fish larvae showed that water temperature and water flow are the two most important factors influencing the fish larvae blooming. According to the generalized additive model (GAM), the hydrological factors that significantly influence the larvae abundance are water temperature, transparency, daily increasing rate of water level, and discharge (p < 0.05). Combining the historical and present research data, the results indicated that river and lake connected habitat is essential for the silver carp recruitment and migration. Future studies should focus on the complementary mechanism of silver carp both in the natural habitat and invasion waters. It is suggested that the spawning habitat should be well protected during the channel project and economic belt construction along the Yangtze River.

Estuary river–lake (ERL) complex is critical for the development of ichthyoplankton, which plays an essential role in the breeding, nursing, and recruitment of freshwater fish species. In this study, different ERL sections were selected to investigate the ichthyoplankton assemblage from the Changjiang River estuary to its Hukou section between May 2018 and August 2020. During the study period, fish larvae of 40, 35, 54, and 46 fish species were sampled in the Rugao (RG), Nanjing (NJ) (nearby estuary), Anqing (AQ), and Hukou (HK) (connected river–lake) sections in the Changjiang River, respectively. Results on ichthyoplankton surveys revealed fluctuating assemblage patterns in the different river sections; larval fish species composition presented ecological habitat-dependent characteristics, which supported the importance of ERL complex for ichthyoplankton development. Furthermore, the density of fish larvae was negatively correlated with water transparency but positively correlated with water temperature, the daily rate of water level increase, and runoff in the limitative range. A generalized additive model analysis indicated that the hydrological factors significantly affecting larval fish abundance are water temperature, transparency, the daily rate of water level increase, and runoff (p < 0.05). These results also indicated that river estuaries and river–lake connected complexes are essential for ichthyoplankton recruitment and migration. In combination with the historical record, ichthyoplankton assemblage’s patterns in the Changjiang River lower reaches were preliminarily elucidated, although additional works are needed such as assessing effects on their survival and recruitment.

Although various geochemical and geophysical investigations have already indicated a great resource potential in the Xisha area of the South China Sea, the origin of organic matter and molecular evidence for tracing the migration of hydrocarbons from deep petroleum reservoirs are still lacking. In this study, systematic organic geochemical analyses, including bulk organic matter parameters and lipid biomarkers were performed for deep sediments from two cores. The C/N ratios and δ13C and δ15N values of organic matter in most of the samples, together with the maxima of short-chain n-alkanoic acids and mid-chain n-alkanols, high abundances of monounsaturated fatty acids C18:1ω9 and C22:1ω13, jointly indicate the dominance of marine organic matter. n-Alkanes in sediments from core GMGS4-XH-W06B are characterized by small unresolved complex mixture (UCMs) humps, high odd/even predominance (OEP) and carbon preference index (CPI) values, clearly exhibiting characteristics of modern sediments. However, the sediments for core GMGS4-XH-W03B are featured with big UCMs, associated with OEP and CPI values around 1.0, showing signatures of petroleum hydrocarbons from high maturity sources. Considering the geologic background, the biomarker signatures are solid evidence for indicating the existence of underlying petroleum reservoirs, and may provide the valuable information for assessing the hydrocarbon resources in the Xisha area.

Methane hydrate in the South China Sea (SCS) has extensively been considered to be biogenic on the basis of its δ13C and δD values. Although previous efforts have greatly been made, the contribution of thermogenic oil/gas has still been underestimated. In this study, biomarkers and porewater geochemical parameters in hydrate-free and hydrate-bearing sediments in the Taixinan Basin, the SCS have been measured for evaluating the contribution of petroleum hydrocarbons to the formation of hydrate deposits via a comparative study of their source inputs of organic matters, environmental conditions, and microbial activities. The results reveal the occurrence of C14–C16 branched saturated fatty acids (bSFAs) with relatively high concentrations from sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRBs) in hydrate-bearing sediments in comparison with hydrate-free sediments, which is in accord with the positive δ13C values of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), increasing methane concentrations, decreasing alkalinity, and concentration fluctuation of ions (Cl−, Br−, SO42−, Ca2+, and Mg2+). These data indicate the relatively active microbial activities in hydrate-bearing sediments and coincident variations of environmental conditions. Carbon isotope compositions of bSFAs (−34.0‰ to −21.2‰), n-alkanes (−34.5‰ to −29.3‰), and methane (−70.7‰ to −69.9‰) jointly demonstrate that SRBs might thrive on a different type of organic carbon rather than methane. Combining with numerous gas/oil reservoirs and hydrocarbon migration channels in the SCS, the occurrence of unresolved complex mixtures (UCMs), odd-even predominance (OEP) values (about 1.0), and biomarker patterns suggest that petroleum hydrocarbons from deep oil/gas reservoirs are the most probable carbon source. Our new results provide significant evidence that the deep oil/gas reservoirs may make a contribution to the formation of methane hydrate deposits in the SCS.

Both fish gills and guts can support lots of microbiota that play important roles in the health and growth of hosts. Although the microbiota of silver carp has been widely studied, the data on microbial variation according to fish tissues and local habitats are lacking. In this study, the microbes in the guts and gills of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) from the hydrophyte-dominated region (zone H) and the algae-dominated region (zone A) of Taihu Lake in autumn were analyzed. Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Firmicutes were the dominant bacteria in silver carp. The microbial diversity was higher in the gills than that in the intestines, and higher in fish from zone H than that from zone A. Beta diversity analysis revealed significant differences in microbial community structures between gill and guts, and between fish from the two habitats. Gills had a higher abundance of phyla Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Deinococcus-Thermus, and a lower abundance of verrucomicrobia than the intestine. Both tissues possessed indicator taxa, while many indicator taxa in the gill were conditional pathogens. Compared to fish from zone H, fish from zone A had more abundant Cyanobacteria, and less abundant Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes. PICRUSt2 analysis revealed that fish microbial functions were mainly associated with metabolism, replication, repair, folding, sorting, and degradation. These results showed that the microbial community of silver carp from Taihu Lake varied according to tissues and habitats.

For patients with locally advanced proximal gastric cancer (LAPGC), the individualized selection of patients with highly suspected splenic hilar (No. 10) lymph node (LN) metastasis to undergo splenic hilar lymphadenectomy, is a clinical dilemma. This study aimed to re-evaluate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic spleen-preserving splenic hilar lymphadenectomy (LSPSHL) and to identify the population who would benefit from it. A total of 1068 patients (D2 group = 409; D2 + No. 10 group = 659) who underwent laparoscopic total gastrectomy from four prospective trials between January 2015 and July 2019 were analyzed. No significant difference in the incidence (16.9% vs. 16.4%; P = 0.837) of postoperative complications were found between the two groups. The metastasis rate of No. 10 LN among patients in the D2 + No. 10 group was 10.3% (68/659). Based on the decision tree, patients with LAPGC with tumor invading the greater curvature (Gre), patients with non-Gre-invading LAPGC with a tumor size > 5 cm and clinical positive locoregional LNs were defined as the high-priority No. 10 dissection group. The metastasis rate of No. 10 LNs in the high-priority group was 19.4% (41/211). In high-priority group, the 3-year overall survival of the D2 + No. 10 group was better than that of the D2 group (74.4% vs. 42.1%; P = 0.005), and the therapeutic index of No. 10 was higher than the indices of most suprapancreatic stations. LSPSHL for LAPGC is safe and feasible when performed by experienced surgeons. LSPSHL could be recommended for the high-priority group patients even without invasion of the Gre.

Shenfu injection (SFI) is a well-known Chinese herbal medicine widely used in the treatment of septic shock in China.The aims of this study are to investigate the protective effects of SFI on sepsis-induced myocardial injury in mice and to identify the underlying mechanism of action.Seventy-two male C57/B6J mice (5-6 weeks old) were randomly divided into five groups: control (NC), sham sepsis (sham), sepsis (Lipopolysaccharide- LPS), sepsis treated with a low dose SFI, and sepsis treated with a high dose SFI. Sepsis was induced in mice by intraperitoneal injection of LPS. Myocardial tissue samples were collected from different groups at 6 h, 12 h, and 24 h post-LPS injection. Myocardial injury was examined using hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and TUNEL staining. Western-blot analysis was performed to determine the protein expression of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), BH3 interacting-domain death agonist (Bid), truncated-Bid (t-Bid) and caspase-9 in all the groups. Moreover, the structural changes in the mitochondria of cardiomyocytes were also observed by transmission electron microscopy.HE staining revealed structural damage, local necrosis, interstitial edema, inflammatory cell infiltration and vacuolar changes in the myocardial tissue in the sepsis (LPS) group; almost intact myocardial tissue was observed in the high dose SFI group with improvements in interstitial edema and inflammatory cell infiltration. We observed that LPS-induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis was significantly improved with high dose SFI as compared with sepsis (LPS) group (P ˂ 0.05). LPS was found to decrease the protein expression of Bcl-2 and increase the level of Bid, t-Bid and caspase-9. Treatment with SFI significantly increased the Bcl-2 protein expression (P ˂ 0.05) and decreased the protein expression of Bid, t-Bid and caspase-9 as compared with LPS group (P ˂ 0.05). Markedly swollen myocardial mitochondria with partial vacuolation were observed in LPS treated mice while SFI treatment was found to significantly improve the LPS-induced morphological damage of the mitochondria.In conclusion, we demonstrate that SFI protects against sepsis-induced myocardial injury in mice through the suppression of myocardial apoptosis. It upregulates the protein expression of Bcl-2 and downregulates the protein expression of Bid, t-Bid and caspase-9, and alleviates sepsis-induced mitochondrial damage.

TBT residual in water had become a noticeable ecological problem for aquatic ecosystems. The river pufferfish (Takifugu obscurus) is a kind of an anadromous fish species and widely distributed in the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea. Because of the water contamination, the pufferfish wild resource had a sudden decline in recent years. Therefore, the study on the response of pufferfish to the TBT exposure may contribute to reveal toxic injury mechanism of T. obscurus under TBT exposure. In this study, the transcriptional library of T. obscurus liver and gill was constructed and sequenced by an improved Illumina HiseqX10 high-throughput sequencing platform under different concentrations of TBT acute stress. The blood cell numbers distinctly decreased after TBT exposure, showing the adverse effects of TBT invasion and self-adjusting ability of the pufferfish. The production of reactive oxygen species increased, demonstrating the oxidation resistance of T. obscurus when exposed to TBT. The obtained data were compared with the genome data of Takifugu rubripes and transcriptional resource database. On this basis, gene function annotation, analysis and classification were carried out by bioinformatics method, and differential genes related to toxic injury function were screened out. Meanwhile, new toxic related genes and related signal pathways were sought to provide new theoretical guidance for the pathogenesis of T. obscurus exposed to TBT. This study not only enriched the transcriptome data of T. obscurus under environmental stress, but also provided a new research method for the response mechanism of T. obscurus under the stimulation of environmental factors.

For permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control system based on sliding mode observer (SMO), the estimated values of the motor speed and the rotor position is always deviated because of variable of the PMSM parameters in actual operation. The existing optimization method is online parameter identification while the method increases the difficulty of motor control. The accuracy of its identification result directly affects the optimization effect. In order to optimize the observer's performance to obtain the rotor position better, in this paper, the regulator was constructed with rotor position compensation as the control target and the change rate of bus current caused by rotor position error as deviation by deducing the mathematical relationship between rotor position error and bus current of PMSM. Simulation model in MATLAB/Simulink and experiments results in dSPACE show high reliability of the new method and improvement of the motor efficiency.

Prostate cancer (PCa) remains a leading cause of mortality among men in the United States and Western Europe. The molecular mechanism of PCa pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated. In the present study, the expression profile of E2F transcription factor 7 (E2F7) in PCa was examined using immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR, whilst cell cycle progression and apoptosis were determined using fluorescent cell activated sorting techniques. Cell viability was measured using Cell Counting Kit-8 in loss- and gain-of-function studies. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was used to verify if E2F7 was one of the potential targets of miR-30c. The staining score of E2F7 of PCa tissues was found to be notably higher compared with that of adjacent normal tissues. Suppression of E2F7 expression in PCa cell lines led to significantly reduced proliferation rates, increased proportion of cells in the G1 phase of the cell cycle and higher apoptotic rates compared with those in negative control groups. Dual-luciferase reporter assay revealed E2F7 to be one of the binding targets of microRNA (miR)-30c. In addition, transfection of miR-30c mimics into PCa cells resulted in reduced cell viability, increased proportion of cells in the G1 phase and higher apoptotic rates. By contrast, transfection with the miR-30c inhibitor led to lower apoptosis rates of PCa cells compared with negative control groups, whilst E2F7 siRNA co-transfection reversed stimulatory effects of miR-30c inhibitors on cell viability. In addition, the expression of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor p21 were found to be upregulated by transfection with either E2F7 siRNA or miR-30c mimics into PCa cells. In conclusion, the present study suggested that E2F7 may be positively associated with PCa cell proliferation by inhibiting p21, whereas E2F7 is in turn under regulation by miR-30c. These observations suggest the miR-30c/E2F7/p21 axis to be a viable therapeutic target for PCa.

FoxL2 is a member of the forkhead/HNF-3-related family of transcription factors which provides tissue specific gene regulation. It is known to regulate ovarian aromatase, which plays a crucial role in ovarian development and mature. To understand the role of FoxL2/ovarian aromatase encoded gene Cyp19a1a during ovarian development and recrudescence, we identified cDNA characteristics of FoxL2 and Cyp19a1a, analyzed its temporal expression both at transcript and protein levels in the anadromous fish, Coilia nasus. Tissue distribution pattern revealed that FoxL2 mRNA expression level was highest in ovary, while Cyp19a1a mRNA was highest in brain. During the upstream migration cycle, in ovary, the FoxL2 mRNA temporal expression peaked at the multiplication stage (stage III in May), the Cyp19a1a mRNA expression peaked at the onset stage (stage I in March). It was found that their mRNA transcripts were maintained at high level during the migration stage (from stage I in March to stage VI in July). Additionally, the strongest immunolabeling positive signals of Cyp19a1a and FoxL2 proteins were mainly found in the cytoplasm of olfactory bulb cell, stratum granulare and neurogliocyte cells and development stage oocytes. Data indicated that FoxL2 and Cyp19a1a were inducible and functional in the C. nasus ovary development and migration process. Therefore, the present results can be regarded as evidence for indispensable roles of FoxL2 and Cyp19a1a in the ovary development and migratory behavior at gene expression patterns and encoded protein distribution level.

Microplastics are an emerging hazard in the marine environment, and considered to eventually sink into sediments. An investigation into the long-term variation of microplastic accumulation in sediment cores is essential for understanding the historical trend of this contamination and its response to human activities. In this study, the multidecadal changes of microplastic abundances in two sediment cores from the inner shelf of the East China Sea (ECS) were revealed by two methods, i.e., a visual enumeration method based on scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and a quantitative method based on microplastic-derived carbon (MPC) abundances. The features of microplastics were determined via SEM-EDS and micro-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (μ-FTIR). The results reveal a multidecadal increasing trend of microplastic accumulation in the coastal sediments of the ECS since the 1960s, which may be jointly governed by the release of plastic wastes and oceanographic dynamics. Meanwhile, the breakpoint of the exponential growth of microplastics in the ECS occurs in 2000 AD, which well matches the rapid increasing of plastic production and consumption in China. Further, based on the MPC contents in sediments, the influence of microplastics on the quantitative evaluation of carbon storage in the ECS has been examined for the first time, revealing an insignificant (

Microplastic pollution in marine environments is of particular concern on its risk to the ecosystem. To assess and manage microplastic contaminants, their quantitative detection in environmental samples is a high priority. However, uncertainties of current methods still exist when estimating their abundances, particularly with fine-grained (1 mm) microplastics. This work reports a novel thermoanalytical method for quantifying microplastics by measuring the contents of microplastic-derived carbon (MPC) in samples under the premise of nearly eliminating the limit of their particle appearances. After validating the method via samples with the spiked microplastics, we have conducted a case study on sediment core H43 that spanned 1925-2009 CE from the Yellow Sea for further illustrating the high reliability and practicability of this method for quantifying microplastics in natural samples. Our results have demonstrated that the proposed method may be a promising technique to determine the mass-related concentrations of the total microplastics in marine sediments for evaluating their pollution status and quantitative contribution to marine carbon storage.

Hatchery release of silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) is an efficient strategy that has been carried out for years, and its scales expand year by year in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River (LRYR) in China. As the cultured juveniles are released into self-recruiting wild population to increase fisheries resources yields, they may potentially come along with negative impacts such as intra-inter specific completion, loss of genetic diversity and fitness, even causing genetic risk. To assess the relationship between genetic risk and stock enhancement (SE) of the silver carp in the Yangtze River (YR); microsatellite loci amplification, parentage assignment, genetic diversity, genetic differentiation and structure were conducted and testified by the help of eleven fluorescence-labeled microsatellite markers method. Results showed that silver carp populations in the YR had relatively higher genetic diversity (UHe), inbreeding coefficient (Fis), and effective population size (Ne) than breeding stock populations from eight hatcheries. By using the analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA), results showed that the percentage of variance among populations and within populations were 4.15 % and 95.85 %, respectively, which indicated that genetic structure of YR populations possibly had been changed by SE. Therefore, the present study suggests that the large-scale SE possibly resulted in negative genetic impact on silver carp population. Most importantly, an evaluation system in fisheries resource recruitment and genetic risks was established for SE and management.

Anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) is one of the most important biogeochemical processes associated with hydrate dissociation and carbon cycling. Though AOM has been extensively investigated, the variations of its microorganisms and lipid biomarkers are still not fully understood. In this study, the porewater geochemical and lipid biomarker evidence for AOM was systematically investigated in the hydrate-bearing system from the Taixinan Basin, the South China Sea, aiming to better expound the vertical variations of AOM-related biomarker signatures and causes of the weak lipid biomarker patterns. Accordingly, the sulfate-methane interface (SMI) depth of 1,000 cmbsf and onset of AOM were determined on the basis of the vertical profiles of porewater parameters. The occurrence of 13C-depleted 2,6,10,15,19-pentamethylicosane (PMI) with the δ13C ratios of −77.7‰ to −131.4‰ near the SMI are in accord with the porewater parameters, despite the absence of archaeol and sn2-hydroxyarchaeol and low abundances of PMI. Meanwhile, the strongly 13C-enriched iso-C15:0 and anteiso-C15:0 fatty acids suggest that non-methane hydrocarbons or oil derivatives are speculated as the probable carbon sources for sulfate-reducing bacteria due to the presence of unresolved complex mixtures (UCMs) and odd–even predominance (OEP) values (about 1.0). The weak in situ signal of AOM-related biomarkers may be attributed to the low-flux methane supply, and dilution effect from the high input of allochthonous and autochthonous organic matters. The great difference in biomarkers between the Taixinan Basin and previously reported sites should be further clarified on the basis of more extensive studies in various AOM-related settings.

PURPOSE Accumulating evidence indicates that micro (mi)RNAs play a critical role in carcinogenesis and cancer progression; however, their role in the tumorigenesis of gastric adenocarcinoma remains unclear so the present study investigated this in gastric cancer (GC) tissues and cell lines. METHODS Human GC specimens (n = 57) and patient-paired non-cancerous specimens were obtained from patients at the First Affiliated Hospital, Henan University of Science and Technology. The AGS and GC9811 gastric cancer cell lines were also used. Expression levels of miR-216b and HDAC8 were examined by quantitative real-time PCR and the expression of HDAC8 was also examined by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry assay. The cell cycle progression was determined by FACS. MiR-216b inhibitor, mimics, and siRNA-HDAC8 transfections were performed to study the loss and gain of function. RESULTS We reported a significantly decreased expression of miR-216b in GC clinical specimens compared with paired non-cancerous tissues. The existence of filters, series RLC and parallel RLC excite resonance in multi-parallel grid-connected inverters systems, which will lead to difficulties in solar energy applications. This paper proposed dual closed-loop with active damping control strategy to suppress resonance. The external current loop was controlled by PR (proportional-resonant) regulator and provide feedback on power grid current. On the same time, the internal voltage loop with active damping restrained the filter resonance effectively. Simulations in MATLAB/Simulink circumstance were constructed to confirm the feasibility of the proposed method. Thus, 1-inverter, 2-inverter, 4-inverter and 6-inverter simulation platform were constructed. The simulation results show that it owns ability to suppress resonance resulted from inverter itself, parallel resonance and series resonance, furthermore, strong robustness while changing parameters.

Introduction Recently, increasing evidence has shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play critical roles in tumor progression and development. However, the expression pattern and biological function of lncRNA HULC (highly upregulated in liver cancer) in prostate cancer (PCa) remain largely unclear. Material and methods The expression of lncRNA HULC in 53 paired PCa tissues and cell lines was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The χ2 test was used to explore the association of lncRNA HULC expression with clinicopathologic features. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used to detect the association between HULC expression and overall survival of PCa patients. Furthermore, the function of HULC in cell growth and metastasis was detected in PCa cells. Results Our data showed that HULC expression was upregulated in PCa tissues and cell lines compared to adjacent non-tumor tissues and the normal prostate cell line RWPE-1 (p < 0.05). High HULC expression was positively associated with advanced clinicopathologic features and poor overall survival (OS) for PCa patients (p < 0.05). HULC inhibition suppressed PCa cell growth and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo (p < 0.05). Furthermore, HULC knockdown reduced N-cadherin and vimentin expression and increased E-cadherin expression in PCa cells (p < 0.05). Conclusions Our data suggested that lncRNA HULC might play oncogenic roles in PCa progression, which provided a novel therapeutic strategy for PCa patients.

Fe and Mn oxides and (oxy)-hydroxides are the most abundant solid-phase electron acceptors in marine sediments, and dissimilatory Fe/Mn reduction usually links with the anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) and organic matter oxidation (OMO) in sediments. In this study, we report the results from subsurface marine sediments in the Dongsha hydrate-bearing area in the South China Sea. The petrological and geochemical signatures show that the Fe/Mn reduction mediated by AOM and OMO might occur in sediments above the sulfate-methane transition zone. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analyses of sediments indicate that Fe(III)/Mn(IV)-oxides and authigenic carbonate minerals coexisted in the Fe/Mn reduction zone. The lower &delta, 13C values of dissolved inorganic carbon, coupled with an evident increase in total inorganic carbon contents and a decrease in Ca2+ and Mg2+ concentrations indicate the onset of AOM in this zone, and the greater variation of PO43&minus, and NH4+ concentrations in pore water suggests the higher OMO rates in subsurface sediments. Geochemical and mineralogical analyses suggest that the previously buried Fe(III)/Mn(IV) oxides might be activated and lead to the onset of Fe/Mn reduction induced by AOM and OMO. These findings may extend our understanding of the biogeochemical processes involved in Fe/Mn reduction in continental shelves with abundant methane, organic matter, and terrigenous metal oxides.

Spatial disorientation in airplane pilots is a leading factor in many fatal flying accidents. Spatial orientation is the product of integrative inputs from the proprioceptive, vestibular, and visual systems. One condition that can lead to sudden pilot incapacitation in fight is vestibular neuritis. Vestibular neuritis is commonly diagnosed by a finding of unilateral vestibular failure, such as a loss of caloric response. However, because caloric response testing reflects the function of only the superior part of the vestibular nerve, it cannot detect cases of neuritis in only the inferior part of the nerve. We describe the case of a Chinese naval command fighter pilot who exhibited symptoms suggestive of vestibular neuritis but whose caloric response test results were normal. Further testing showed a unilateral loss of vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs). We believe that this pilot had pure inferior nerve vestibular neuritis. VEMP testing plays a major role in the diagnosis of inferior nerve vestibular neuritis in pilots. We also discuss this issue in terms of aeromedical concerns.

Five pyridyl-β-diketones were synthesized by Claisen condensation of ethyl nicotinate with various aryl methyl ketones in benzene in the presence of sodium amide as the base, and then reacted with boron trifluoride diethyl etherate in dichloromethane to afford some new boron difluoride pyridyl-β-diketonate derivatives. The compounds obtained were characterized using FTIR, (1)H NMR, elemental analysis and mass spectrometry. Their optical properties were studied in DMF by UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results showed that these boron complexes exhibited intense fluorescence in the blue-green region (420-490 nm) under UV radiation with a relatively high quantum yield. Especially, compounds 4b and 5b displayed much higher quantum yield as compared to compounds 1b, 2b and 3b.

Five diaroylmethanatoboron difluoride derivatives were prepared from aryl methyl ketones via Claisen condensation with aromatic esters and followed by complexation with boron trifluoride etherate. Their structures and spectroscopic properties were studied by elemental analysis, IR, NMR, ESI–MS, UV and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results showed that these boron complexes had strong fluorescent peaks in the 400–500 nm range in chloroform and high quantum yields. The emission peaks for boron complexes containing naphthyl group exhibited considerable red shift as compared to those of containing phenyl group.
