21. Surface oxygen engineered ZnCo2O4planar hybrid supercapacitor electrode for high energy applications

Abstract

To enhance the electrochemical performances of supercapacitors, here suggested an unique strategy by creating oxygen vacancies on the electrode materials, which will progressively support for the pseudo as well as electrochemical double layer capacitance (EDLC). The laser treatment on the spinel ZnCo2O4nanoleaves modified with functionalized MWCNT electrode have created surface O2vacancies thereby midgap electronic states are generated. Illustrated, binding energy of (Ov-ZCO@f-MWCNT) O1, O2 and O3 is increased, significantly about 0.8 eV higher for O2, similarly, the d-spacing is also increased to 0.24 nm which influences on electrochemical characteristics exhibiting 22 mA higher ipa(CV). Specific capacitance of the synthesized electrode materials H-60, H-80, H-100, ZCO@f-MWCNT, Ov-ZCO@f-MWCNT-3, Ov-ZCO@f-MWCNT-6 and Ov-ZCO@f-MWCNT-9 are 683, 1129, 832, 1331, 1478, 2116 and 1780 F g−1respectively was observed at 1A g−1cd. The O2vacancies created in 6 min (carbon nanodots decorated ZCO microspheres) exhibits a highest capacitance of 2116 F g−1and retained 89–100 % coulumbic efficiency at various charge density 1A g−1-50 A g−1. The excellent electrochemical performance of Ov-ZCO@f-MWCNT-6 electrode is due to the higher surface area and pore volume paves the way for improved ionic and redox capacitance. Furthermore, flexible solid-state hybrid planar supercapacitor was assembled with Ov-ZCO@f-MWCNT-6 microspheres//active carbon (AC) exhibits a high energy density of 101.3 Wh kg−1at a power density of 400.9 W kg−1with 85 % retention of capacitance after 10,000 cycles. There was no legible variations in the CV pattern observed at 0, 30, 60, and 90° angles which shows the high stability of the device, interpreted no mechanical disintegration and the solid-state electrolyte illuminated LED for 7 min. Suggested that the oxygen vacancy creation is an efficient way to improve the electrodes performance in energy storage device application.

26. Synergistic control of cohesive and adhesive forces in anchored porous CoMn2O4for superior reversible lithium-ion storage and high energy-power density

Abstract

Today, the growing demand for environmentally friendly energy storage systems has prompted extensive research on improving electrode performance due to the rapid advancement of portable electronic devices. In this investigation, we successfully synthesized CoMn2O4(CMO) microspheres featuring uniformity, as well as hollow and porous structures. Through the controlled cohesive and adhesive forces during the calcination process, we achieved the synthesis of CoMn2O4microspheres with porous and hollow characteristics, utilizing CoMn-glycolate solid microspheres as the precursor. By integrating a three-dimensional network of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) anchored CoMn2O4(P-CMO) microspheres, we enhanced the surface area and accelerated ion diffusion in Li-ion storage devices. The rGO-P-CMO composite achieved a discharge capacity of 1457 mAh g−1at 100 mA g−1, surpassing the theoretical limit, and retained 80 % capacitance at 1000 mA g−1. Besides, we constructed a novel rechargeable lithium-ion battery (LIB) full cell utilizing the rGO-P-CMO microspheres as the anode and the Li1.2Mn0.54Ni0.13Co0.13O2(LMNCO) as the cathode. The LIB full cell (rGO-P-CMO||LMNCO) exhibited a discharge capacity of 147 mA g−1and achieved a practical energy density of 220.5 Wh kg−1, considering the combined weight of the active electrode materials. Therefore, the exceptional electrochemical performance displayed by the proposed LIB full cell configuration holds significant potential in advancing the development of next-generation, high-performance batteries tailored for electric vehicle implementations.

Abstract

Sodium borohydride ( NaBH 4 ) is a promising candidate for storing hydrogen in portable fuel cell systems. In order to reduce the volume and cost of the hydrogen generation systems, a high-performance catalyst containing a less precious metal is imperative. In this present investigation, a number of metal alloy compositions are compared in a high throughput screening (HTS) test. In the case of tertiary alloy suspension, the hydrogen release rate of Ru 60 Co 20 Fe 20 shows highest H 2 release ( 26.8 L min - 1 g - 1 ). In the case of the activated carbon fiber (ACF) supported ruthenium catalyst, the reduction process plays an important role in both the particle size of the formed catalyst and consequent enhancement of the hydrogen release rate. Ru 60 Co 20 Fe 20 / ACF showed its highest hydrogen release rate at 41.73 L min - 1 g Ru - 1 . The prepared catalysts were analyzed by XRD and XPS spectra. The suitability of the catalyst in the real proton exchange membrane fuel cell application has been examined and it shows the applicability for common use.

Abstract

LiCo1−xBaxO2 (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5) has been prepared by a low temperature solid-state reaction procedure and evaluated. It is used as the positive material for lithium-ion battery applications. Bare and doped samples were characterized by chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction, Transmission Electron Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopic Analysis. Electrochemical characterization of these samples has been studied following cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge–discharge cycling in between the potential range of 3.0–4.5 V. Specific capacity of the compound with x = 0.2 has been found to be about 164 mAh−1. With an increase in x, the capacity decreases and reaches to 121 mAhg−1 at x = 0.5. From cyclic voltammograms, it has been found that the peak potential separation is minimum for the sample with x = 0.2, which supports the charge–discharge data.

Abstract

Novel porous structured spinel LiNiMnO (LNMO) microcubes have been synthesized and applied as energy storage materials for Li-ion batteries and supercapacitors. These materials are excellent candidate to replace the existing LiMnO used in the commercially available lithium-ion batteries. In this report, a systematic work has been performed to study the structural and electrochemical performance of the novel porous LNMO microcubes synthesized by facile precipitation routine. Structural stability of the porous LNMO microcubes was confirmed using thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction studies. Field emission scanning electron microscopic images revealed the LNMO microcubes were uniformly distributed with an average size of ~ 163 nm. Transmission electron microscopic images were confirmed the porous LNMO microcubes morphology and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis showed the specific surface area of the synthesized LNMO, which was 36.42 m g with an excellent pore volume of 3.62 cm g and an average pore size of 1.41 nm. Cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance and charge-discharge studies were performed on the LiNiMnO to investigate the potential application of porous LNMO microcubes in lithium-ion battery and supercapacitors. As positive electrode in Li-ion cell, the porous LNMO microcubes exhibit an excellent discharge capacity of 138.4 mA h g at 1 C rate. The porous LNMO microcubes in supercapacitor was exhibited a maximum specific capacity of 294 F g at 0.75 A g with an excellent specific capacitance retention of 97% after 1000 cycles. Abstract

RuOx x nH2O film was electrochemically synthesized conveniently using cyclic voltammetric technique. The film formation was ascertained by the Electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) method and 45 ng of deposit per cycle was obtained. Stoichiometric ratio of the ruthenium and ruthenium oxide have been studied with different pH of phosphate buffer. The stability of the modified electrode in the presence of different cations and anions with different concentrations and pH were examined. Electrochemical studies have shown that the ascorbic acid (AA) and dopamine (DA) catalytic oxidation on ruthenium oxide modified electrode (RME) with a span of 300 mV separation even in the presence of uric acid (UA) with a large decrease in their respective over potential compared with bare glassy carbon electrode (GC). Accidentally, the reversible redox properties of the AA have been expediently studied on the RME using cyclic voltammetry and this peculiarity was interrogated through rotating ring disc electrode (RRDE) experiments. RRDE experiment results are conformed to the CV studies result and thus reversible redox property of AA have been reiterated. Amperometric detection under stirred condition up to approximately 0.8mM of AA and DA was carried out at free of electrode fouling. Interestingly, the regeneration of used RME electrode even after many consequent analysis, 100% was obtained.

44. Novel CaCO3-polymer nanocomposite fillers for the improvement of bagasse-based papers.

Abstract

Polymeric inorganic nanocomposites have received considerable attention because of their potential application in diverse areas, including papermaking industries. To develop novel filler materials to improve important paper properties, polyacrylamide (PAM)-coated nano-calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanocomposite fillers were synthesized and studied for their chemical and morphological characteristics. The effect of PAM-modified CaCO3 nanofillers on properties of paper made with bagasse-based pulp was evaluated and compared with papers made with pristine nano-CaCO3 fillers. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed the attachment of PAM/CaCO3 nanocomposites with the cellulosic fiber matrix. The scanning electron microscope and light microscopic images confirmed that the PAM-modified CaCO3 fillers deposited larger aggregated clusters of particles on the fiber surfaces more firmly, which caused the improved paper properties. The surface and the optical properties of the bagasse papers filled with PAM preflocculated-CaCO3 nanofillers were tremendously increased without sacrificing strength properties because of the increased fiber-filler-fiber bonding.
