1. Analysis of Circuits Supplying Thomson Coil Actuator Operating in Vacuum Contact Units of DC and AC Ultra-Fast Circuit Breakers

Abstract: The use of vacuum-hybrid DC circuit breaking methods allows the short-circuit current to be switched off in a shorter time, resulting in a reduction in the arc burning time. This requires the use of a drive, such as the Thomson Coil Actuator TCA, capable of providing a short response time for opening the vacuum interrupter VI, regardless of its rated current. The IDD is powered by a pre-charged capacitor, which, together with the drive coil, forms an LC oscillating circuit that, when switched on by a thyristor, generates a current pulse of several kA with a frequency above 1 kHz. The paper investigates the effect of modifying the basic IDD power supply circuit by adding semiconductor diodes to shape the current pulse and improve its performance. The authors also focused on exploring the impact of the connection quality and their length and the associated loss in drive force while proving that a circuit with a reverse diode on the IDD coil is most beneficial and that the effect of the circuit on the front of the current pulse can significantly slow down the drive.

Abstract: This article describes the development of current sensors used in DCU-type high-speed circuit breakers. DCU-type circuit breakers use the principle of turning off a constant short-circuit current by means of countercurrent. The article presents a new current sensor design called PIKh, which uses Hall sensors to measure current and determine its direction. PIKh sensors allow parallel operation of high-speed circuit breakers during the “parking” operation. The article includes the algorithm and principle of operation of the PIKh sensor. The proposed solution was verified on an electric traction vehicle.

Abstract: This paper presents the results of a computer optimising a multibody system using Generative Design methods to select a lower-cost actuator that meets process requirements with its parameters. Optimisation was performed to reduce the mass of the motion apparatus components of the author’s CPM device, used for the rehabilitation of patients after knee arthroscopy and total or partial knee replacement. An analysis of the kinematics and dynamics of the multibody mechanism, based on a virtual model, was carried out to identify the requirements for selecting an actuator. The main components of the motion apparatus mechanism were subjected to a series of numerical analyses using selected CAD/CAE tools, with the assumed criterion of varying material and component shapes to ensure that the required strength and accuracy of the mechanism links were maintained, assuming the same functionality. The results of the numerical analyses will be the basis for the selection of the optimum solution, for which a new, lower-cost actuator will be selected.

Abstract: The article provides an overview of Brain Computer Interface (BCI) solutions for intelligent buildings. A significant topic from the smart cities point of view. That solution could be implemented as one of the human-building interfaces. The authors presented an analysis of the use of BCI in specific building systems. The article presents an analysis of BCI solutions in the context of controlling devices/systems included in the Building Management System (BMS). The Article confirms the possibility of using this method of communication between the user and the building’s central unit. Despite many confirmations of repeatable device inspections, the article presents the challenges faced by the commercialization of the solution in buildings.

Abstract: This paper describes a new method of classification based on spectral analysis. The motivations behind developing the new model were the failures of the classical spectral cluster analysis based on combinatorial and normalized Laplacian for a set of real-world datasets of textual documents. Reasons of the failures are analysed. While the known methods are all based on usage of eigenvectors of graph Laplacians, a new classification method based on eigenvalues of graph Laplacians is proposed and studied.

Abstract: This article discusses the most important issues regarding the implementation of digital algorithms for control and drive technology in industrial machines, especially in open mining machines. The article presents the results of tests in which the algorithm and drive control parameter settings were not selected appropriately for voltage-fed induction motors, and where the control speed was not verified by any of the available motoring or simulation methods. We then show how the results can be improved using field-oriented control algorithms and deep parameters analysis for sensorless field-oriented performance.

Abstract: This publication presents a system for integrating machine learning and artificial intelligence solutions with building automation systems. The platform is based on cloud solutions and can integrate with one of the most popular virtual building management solutions, HomeAssistant. The System uses communication based on the Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. The example machine learning function described in this publication detects anomalies in the electricity waveforms and raises the alarm. This information determines power quality and detects system faults or unusual power consumption. Recently, increasing electricity prices on global markets have meant that buildings must significantly reduce consumption. Therefore, a fundamental element of energy consumption diagnostics requires detecting unusual forms of energy consumption to optimise the use of individual devices in home and office installations.

Abstract: Cutting-edge building energy management systems (BEMS) interact with heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, which generally account for much of the energy consumption. Major attention is focused on the BEMS themselves, barring on-field equipment. In HVAC equipment, sub-optimal controller settings may lead to energy losses and user discomfort, for instance, due to oscillations of air temperature and fan speeds. The way to solve this problem could be to replace classical PID controllers with an alternative concept that does not require tuning and works optimally for a wide range of parameters. This paper compares a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) with a standard PID for a model-based simulation of an HVAC system in Simulink for different conditions using real building measurement data. The end result is the implementation of the developed methods in a newly designed universal control board for air handling units (AHU). The proposed FLC achieves better integral control quality indicators (IAE, ISE, ITAE, ITSE) by at least 27.4%, and smaller supply air temperature variation; the daily mean square error (MSE) was reduced by an average of 36%, which leads immediately to better occupant comfort and a presumed reduction in energy consumption. Compared to the untuned PID, energy consumption was 12.7% lower; this will ensure improved economy from the lowest level, and paves the way for interoperability with high-level energy management schemes.

Abstract: The article presents a new generation of ultra-fast hybrid switching systems (USH) for reliable, ultra-fast protection of various medium and low voltage DC systems (MVDC and LVDC). The DC switch-off takes place in a vacuum chamber (VC) cooperating with a semiconductor module using current commutation of natural or forced type. Against the background of the current state of science and technology, the paper depicts the basic scopes of USH applications and their particular suitability for operation in high magnetic energy DC circuits. In the case of DC system failures, this magnetic energy should be dissipated outside the system as soon as possible. Usually, magnetic blow-out switches (MBOS) with relatively low operating speed are used for this purpose. The article describes the theoretical basis and principles of construction of two types of novel USH systems: a direct current switching system (DCSS) and a direct current ultra-fast hybrid modular switch (DCU-HM). The DCSS family is designed for quench protection of superconducting electromagnets’ coils in all areas of application. The DCU-HM family is designed for the protection of all systems or vehicles of DC electrical traction and for related industrial applications. The conducted comparative analysis of the effectiveness of USH with respect to MBOS shows clear technical advantages of the new generation switching systems over MBOS. 10. Correction Mechanism for Balancing Driving Torques in an Opencast Mining Stacker with an Induction Motor and Converter Drive System

Abstract: This article describes a correction mechanism for balancing torques in moving drives. The steering system is controlled by a programable logic controller (PLC), a field-oriented control (FOC) algorithm in the drive inverter system, Process Fieldbus (PROFIBUS), and a Decentralized Peripherals (DP) network. The mechanism was applied in an opencast mining stacker with an induction motor and converter drive system. The mechanism was realized using SIMOLINK (Siemens Motion Link, SL) via fiber optic cables. Motor torque correction was applied in each electrical drive of the stacker machine. The main results presented in this paper were obtained directly from the machine. Selected digital control problems related to open mining stackers are discussed.

Abstract: This paper presents the manufacturing method of silver based composite materials containing 3 % vol. carbon forms (nanotubes and graphene). The most significant challenge was to obtain good dispersion of carbon in the metallic matrix. The applying of suitable dispersants allows to get uniform distribution of carbon reinforcement. Triton X-100 and ultrasonic support were used in the powder mixing process. Ag-nanotubes and Ag-graphene contact tips were made using Spark Plasma Sintering process (SPS). The results of research into both physical and electrical properties of these composites are presented. It has been demonstrated that the form of introduced carbon exerts influence on the electrical characteristics of contacts, and particularly on arc erosion. Performed electrical test indicated that Ag-nanotubes contacts showed higher resistance to arc erosion than Ag‑graphene contacts. It can be explained by the better dispersion to individual carbon nanotubes their lower than for graphene edge defects density and due to this higher thermal and electrical conductivity.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.ms.24.1.17769

12. Application of Smart Technologies in Metropolis GZM to Reduce Harmful Emissions in District Heating Systems

Abstract: Harmful emissions from heating installations have recently received public attention in Poland. Polish municipalities mainly take their heat from local district heating networks with large-scale coal-fired heat sources. Today, transition to nonemissive sources on this scale would be impractical. The easiest way to reduce carbon emissions is to limit heat consumption, but at the same time, to preserve thermal comfort, the application of smart technologies is necessary. Veolia operates on 71 district heating systems in Poland, including Warsaw, Lodz, and Poznan. Since heat consumption in Warsaw and Metropolis GZM is at a similar level, this is a case study of Hubgrade automation system application within the Warsaw district heating network. This paper also presents results of simulation of harmful emission reduction potential in Metropolis GZM. Simulation results show that there is a potential for saving approximately 275 kt of CO2 for the whole Metropolis GZM.

13. The Algorithm of Determining an Anti-Collision Manoeuvre Trajectory Based on the Interpolation of Ship’s State Vector

Abstract: The determination of a ship’s safe trajectory in collision situations at sea is one of the basic functions in autonomous navigation of ships. While planning a collision avoiding manoeuvre in open waters, the navigator has to take into account the ships manoeuvrability and hydrometeorological conditions. To this end, the ship’s state vector is predicted—position coordinates, speed, heading, and other movement parameters—at fixed time intervals for different steering scenarios. One possible way to solve this problem is a method using the interpolation of the ship’s state vector based on the data from measurements conducted during the sea trials of the ship. This article presents the interpolating function within any convex quadrilateral with the nodes being its vertices. The proposed function interpolates the parameters of the ship’s state vector for the specified point of a plane, where the values in the interpolation nodes are data obtained from measurements performed during a series of turning circle tests, conducted for different starting conditions and various rudder settings. The proposed method of interpolation was used in the process of determining the anti-collision manoeuvre trajectory. The mechanism is based on the principles of a modified Dijkstra algorithm, in which the graph takes the form of a regular network of points. The transition between the graph vertices depends on the safe passing level of other objects and the degree of departure from the planned route. The determined shortest path between the starting vertex and the target vertex is the optimal solution for the discrete space of solutions. The algorithm for determining the trajectory of the anti-collision manoeuvre was implemented in autonomous sea-going vessel technology. This article presents the results of laboratory tests and tests conducted under quasi-real conditions using physical ship models. The experiments confirmed the effective operation of the developed algorithm of the determination of the anti-collision manoeuvre trajectory in the technological framework of autonomous ship navigation.

14. Cerebellar liponeurocytoma with atypical histological features – a rare example of a glioneuronal tumor

Abstract: We present a case of a rare neoplasm in a 77-year-old woman with previous oncological history, who developed a rapid onset of cerebellar symptoms. The neuroimaging detected a posterior fossa tumor suspected of meningioma which was completely resected soon after. Histologically the neoplasm had two components with different immunophenotype. One constituent was lobular, composed of monotonous mitotically active round cells with a predominant neuronal profile. The second, astrocytic component contained lipomatous cells intermixed with larger gemistocytic astrocytes. Fields of geographic necrosis as well as multifocal microvascular proliferation were observed. The Ki67 proliferation index was 12%. After two years of follow-up the patient remains free of symptoms and radiologic recurrence. The presented case of cerebellar liponeurocytoma is unusual in terms of its atypical histological features and prominent astrocytic component. The authors propose that the term ‘lipomatous glioneuronal tumor’ seems to be more appropriate for this type of lesion, considering its histologic spectrum and possible extracerebellar location.

Abstract: Advances in distributed generation and increased contribution of renewable energy source (RES) require development of smart grid technologies. Smart metering systems, as a part of smart grid technologies, in cooperation with modern buildings equipped with building management system allows for improvement of energy efficiency. It is possible to partially cover the power demand of a building from the local RESs. However, in order to ensure maximum added value, energy management system (EMS) is essential. This article presents the project and practical implementation of an EMS implemented in smart-meter. The designed system is based on an original algorithm using fuzzy logic. The rule base was created in FCL language and the implementation was carried out in C++ with the object-oriented programming (OOP). For the efficiency rating indicator, peak-to-average ratio (PAR) was selected. This ratio depending on the daily load profile decreased within a range from 15 to 54%, and the average value was 30%. The proposed energy management algorithm helps to reduce energy consumption at peak demand by 34%, with the total reduction of energy consumption during the day of 7%. The described solution demonstrates a potential for real implementation and was tested in hardware.

Abstract: An adaptive ship steering system along a preset track is an example of an intelligent system. An optimal linear quadratic regulator (LQR) regulator with a symmetric indicator of control quality was adopted as the control algorithm. The model identification was based on the continuous version of the least squares method. A significant part of the article presents the proof of the stability of the proposed system. The results of the calculation experiments are provided to confirm the effective and correct working of the system.

Abstract: The article presents a numerical model of sea wave generation as an implementation of the stochastic process with a spectrum of wave angular velocity. Based on the wave spectrum, a forming filter is determined, and its input is fed with white noise. The resulting signal added to the angular speed of a ship represents disturbances acting on the ship’s hull as a result of wave impact. The model was used for simulation tests of the influence of disturbances on the course stabilization system of the ship.

Abstract: In the age of continually developing satellite navigation practically every ship is equipped with GPS receivers, providing the coordinates of her position. However, relying solely on the navigational data from one autonomous receiver the navigator may expect that a given position is burdened with significant errors or that the position data will be lost. This results from the shortcoming of GPS systems which are susceptible to disturbances affecting their operation. One method to substantially reduce such risk is a navigational system that makes use of a number of sources for accurate position determination. The obtained data are processed, which involves data integration and filtration in order to further diminish measurement errors. One possible solution is the application of a system based on an algorithm of multi-sensor navigational data fusion using a Kalman filter. After a brief description of the algorithm, this article presents some results of the fusion of data from parallel position measurements, where the data come from two mobile GPS receivers. The said solution is intended to be implemented in a navigational decision support system on board a sea-going vessel.

This article presents an algorithm of ship movement trajectory prediction, which, through data fusion, takes into account measurements of the ship’s current position from a number of doubled autonomous devices. Electronic speckle pattern interferometry and finite element method were used for experimental and computational research, respectively. The procedure of experimental tests shows that the stiffness of the joint prosthesis can be determined experimentally by means of electronic speckle pattern interferometry, but the quantitative result of such a procedure cannot be captured directly in a finite element method model. The values of static stiffness calculated numerically do not fall within the range of experimental results. The discrepancy grows as the extension of the endoprosthesis increases and the value of relative difference between numerical and experimental results reaches the value of 54%. The inconsistency of results can be explained by the involvement of the joint linking the body of the implant to the moving part. While effective in the case of traditional, one-piece constructions, finite element method modeling does not yield satisfactory results in the case of such an elementary parameter as is the static stiffness of the implant, due to the difficulty in estimating the stiffness of the joint present in the sliding node. The use of the experimental method makes it possible to estimate the degree of this inconsistency.

Abstract: Borreliosis is a disease that was discovered in the 1970s, but its pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical course are not yet fully understood. The number of diagnosed Lyme disease cases in Poland has been increasing over the last decade. Poland has seen endemic Lyme disease, with one of the highest rates of infection in Europe. It is a zoonotic, vector-related disease that is transmitted by ticks that are infected with Borrelia burgdorferi spirochetes. One of the least known, poorly documented, and rarely recognized forms of Lyme disease is ocular borreliosis. Ocular alterations can occur in both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, depending on the phase of the disease. In early stages when the tick bite is close to the eyeball, erythema-containing spirochetes can spread to the eyelids and conjunctiva of the eye per continuum. In the second phase when spirochetes spread throughout the whole body but have a predilection for nerve tissue, they occupy cranial nerves. This may also affect the optic nerve, less often oculomotor nerves and the retina. This phase of ocular borreliosis is associated with neuroborreliosis. In this stage, ocular borreliosis usually coexists with meningitis or encephalitis. In addition to the history and clinical picture of Lyme disease, accurate diagnoses based on commercially available serological tests are fundamentally important in Poland. This article describes three phases of Lyme disease. We explain the reasons for its clinical differences in the old and new worlds from an epidemiological perspective. The clinical picture, treatment, and prognosis of Lyme disease are discussed.

Dostępne komercyjnie w Polsce badania dodatkowe, które możemy zastosować w tej jednostce chorobowej, mają ograniczone znaczenie, więc rozpoznanie powinno być kliniczne. W artykule tym zebrano dane z literatury z uwzględnieniem jej nowych pozycji, na temat epidemiologii, przebiegu klinicznego, rozpoznawania oraz współczesnych zasad leczenia toksokarozy ocznej opisane z punktu widzenia specjalisty chorób zakaźnych i pasożytniczych praktycznie zajmującego się chorobami oczu od ponad 20 lat.

Abstract: In this article, the results for compressed channel section profiles made of glass and flax fiber reinforced polymer were presented. Six symmetric arrangements of layers were tested: [0/−45/45/90]s, [90/−45/45/0]s, [90/0/90/0]s, [0/90/0/90]s, [45/−45/45/−45]s, [45/−45/90/0]s. The study concerns the buckling and failure modes and loads determination. To obtain load capacity of analyzed structures the ANSYS program based on finite element method was employed. Linear (LBA) and nonlinear buckling analyses (NBA) with an implementation of the progressive failure algorithm (PFA) with the Hashin criterion as the damage onset criterion, were performed. Structures made of natural fibers were characterized by small differences in relation to the successive buckling loads, similar load carrying capacity values determined for the implementation of successive buckling modes and, in opposition to GFRP channel section profiles, by a lack of or a small range of deformations in the postbuckling stage. Wherefore, the obtained results with results for analogous profiles made of GFRP were compared. Furthermore, the effect of laying the laminate layers on the magnitude of the critical force and the occurrence of a specific failure mechanism depending on the number of degraded layers were presented.

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to describe and assess the energetic-metabolic activity of selected muscles of upper and lower extremities during Rotational Training (RT). The influence of RT on temperature changes in the biceps and triceps brachii muscles as well as the quadriceps and biceps femoris muscles of healthy university students were verified, in addition to temperature differences between the left and right side before and after RT. The study was conducted on 18 subjects. RT was conducted in accordance with accepted forms of training methodology of collective fitness. An important part of RT was the performance of circular and rotational movements. Thermograms taken before and immediately after RT focused on 4 regions of selected agonists and synergists in the upper and lower body. The camera used was the infrared hand-held CEDIP Titanium 560M IR (USA), located at a distance of 10 m from the subject. After RT, median Tsk (skin temperature) decreased in almost all of the examined ROIs, except for the left and right Qf (the quadriceps femoris, rectus femoris, and sartorius muscles) as well as the left Tb (triceps brachii) in female subjects. Abstract: Digital, Background: Two glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists reduced renal outcomes in people with type 2 diabetes at risk for cardiovascular disease. We assessed the long-term effect of the GLP-1 receptor agonist dulaglutide on renal outcomes in an exploratory analysis of the REWIND trial of the effect of dulaglutide on cardiovascular disease. Methods: REWIND was a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial at 371 sites in 24 countries. Men and women aged at least 50 years with type 2 diabetes who had either a previous cardiovascular event or cardiovascular risk factors were randomly assigned (1:1) to either weekly subcutaneous injection of dulaglutide (1·5 mg) or placebo and followed up at least every 6 months for outcomes. Urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratios (UACRs) and estimated glomerular filtration rates (eGFRs) were estimated from urine and serum values measured in local laboratories every 12 months. The primary outcome (first occurrence of the composite endpoint of non-fatal myocardial infarction, non-fatal stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes), secondary outcomes (including a composite microvascular outcome), and safety outcomes of this trial have been reported elsewhere. In this exploratory analysis, we investigate the renal component of the composite microvascular outcome, defined as the first occurrence of new macroalbuminuria (UACR >33·9 mg/mmol), a sustained decline in eGFR of 30% or more from baseline, or chronic renal replacement therapy. Analyses were by intention to treat. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT01394952. Findings: Between Aug 18, 2011, and Aug 14, 2013, 9901 participants were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive dulaglutide (n=4949) or placebo (n=4952). At baseline, 791 (7·9%) had macroalbuminuria and mean eGFR was 76·9 mL/min per 1·73 m2 (SD 22·7). Abstract: Digital, Background Three different glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists reduce cardiovascular outcomes in people with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk with high glycated haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) concentrations. We assessed the effect of the GLP-1 receptor agonist dulaglutide on major adverse cardiovascular events when added to the existing antihyperglycaemic regimens of individuals with type 2 diabetes with and without previous cardiovascular disease and a wide range of glycaemic control. Methods This multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was done at 371 sites in 24 countries. Men and women aged at least 50 years with type 2 diabetes who had either a previous cardiovascular event or cardiovascular risk factors were randomly assigned (1:1) to either weekly subcutaneous injection of dulaglutide (1·5 mg) or placebo. Randomisation was done by a computer-generated random code with stratification by site. All investigators and participants were masked to treatment assignment. Participants were followed up at least every 6 months for incident cardiovascular and other serious clinical outcomes. The primary outcome was the first occurrence of the composite endpoint of non-fatal myocardial infarction, non-fatal stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes (including unknown causes), which was assessed in the intention-to-treat population. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT01394952. Findings Between Aug 18, 2011, and Aug 14, 2013, 9901 participants (mean age 66·2 years [SD 6·5], median HbA1c 7·2% [IQR 6·6–8·1], 4589 [46·3%] women) were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive dulaglutide (n=4949) or placebo (n=4952). During a median follow-up of 5·4 years (IQR 5·1–5·9), the primary composite outcome occurred in 594 (12·0%) participants at an incidence rate of 2·4 per 100 person-years in the dulaglutide group and in 663 (13·4%) participants at an incidence rate of 2·7 per 100 person-years in the placebo group (hazard ratio [HR] 0·88, 95% CI 0·79–0·99; p=0·026). Abstract: The known navigational systems in use perform information functions and as such are helpful in the process of safe conduct of a vessel. One of the ways to assist in reducing the number of marine accidents is the development of systems which perform decision support functions, i.e. automatically generate solutions to collision situations. The use of information (and communication) technologies including knowledge engineering allows the generation of proposals for anti-collision manoeuvres taking into account the COLREGs. Demand for further enhancement of navigational safety by limiting human errors has initiated a trend to convert navigational information systems into decision support systems. The implementation of decision support systems will potentially reduce the number of human errors, which translates into a reduction of accidents at sea and their adverse consequences. This paper presents a summary of the research to date on the navigational decision support system NAVDEC. The system has been positively verified in laboratory conditions and in field tests – on a motor ferry and a sailing ship. Challenges associated with the development and implementation of such systems are outlined.

Abstract: Diagnostic procedure for unilateral optic disc oedema needs detailed medical history, careful physical examination and multiple additional tests. We present a very rare case of atypical unilateral anterior optic neuropathy as a sign of ocular toxoplasmosis in a young female. All diagnostic and therapeutic challenges have been discussed.
