Population census is often a popular topic in everyday conversations. After extensive research, a conclusion was made that currently no services exist that offer a convenient, easily interpretable information about the census. Our solution for this problem is CroStats – a simple web interface for population census data visualization intended for general public. The central feature of the CroStats is its intuitive and simple graphical display. It analyzes the most important categories of the population census by county such as population, age, birth rate and mortality. All this information is displayed on an interactive map of the Republic of Croatia. Extra features offered are graphs of changes by year and interesting historical and demographic facts about counties that the broader audience may have interest in.

The Sava River Basin, as the largest river basin in Croatia, is of great importance for the water resources management and hydrological research in Croatia. The general intensification of extreme climatic conditions increases the number of flood events worldwide, which may indirectly affect the morphodynamical behavior in the riverbed. Valuable information on the flood-generation mechanisms may be contained in the flood hydrograph shapes, which can be expressed as continuous functions using a functional data approach [1]. In this research, we performed a preliminary analysis of annual flood events at the gauging station (GS) Zagreb by applying a clustering mechanism based on functional data to identify a set of representative hydrograph shapes that contain valuable information for future research on scour in the vicinity of bridges. Flood events that capture river’s flood regime can be represented as classical multivariate data or functional data, to be subsequently classified by applying a clustering algorithm. The functional analysis can provide a more objective and reproducible definition of the actual hydrological phenomena than the classical multidimensional analysis because it avoids the subjective selection of a set of hydrograph characteristics. Functional data analysis starts by considering the discrete data observations as part of a finite- dimensional space spanned by a set of basis functions and coefficients that define their linear combination. In addition, the choice of the appropriate order of polynomial segments and the number and placement of the knots are determined to represent the main characteristics of the hydrograph shapes. Finally, the resulting set of coefficients is used as an input for clustering. Since the hydrograph shape clusters can only be validated by their interpretability and usefulness, their evaluation was performed graphically [1, 2]. The input data for the analysis was a historical time series of daily discharge data from the Zagreb gauging station in the Sava River basin for the reference period 1960-2019, provided by the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service. The time series consists of 21878 observations (60 years of data). The annual maxima method was applied to the time series to extract independent flood events corresponding to the maximum annual peak discharge values. For each event the flood volume and duration were determined over a fixed window corresponding to the longest duration of the rising and falling limb of all considered flood events, resulting in 16 days before and 38 days after the peak discharge (55 daily observations). The baseflow was separated from the direct flow using the R package “lfstat”, with the direct flow component normalized by dividing the ordinate of each hydrograph with the total volume of the flood event. Finally, a functional data analysis was performed by spanning B-spline functions of differing ranks onto the resulting direct flow data observations followed by implementing a k- means clustering algorithm to separate flood events into different clusters. For each cluster, a median was determined to represent three distinct types of hydrograph shapes. For this analysis the B-spline rank of 25 and the K value of 3 were ultimately chosen. This approach resulted in identifying three distinct types of flood events: (1) slow events described as both elongated rising and falling limbs, (2) intermediate events with steep rising limbs and moderately steep falling limb, and (3) fast events with steep rising and falling limbs of the hydrographs. This preliminary analysis was conducted in order to exploit the valuable process information contained in flood hydrograph shapes, which can be of great value for the future research within the R3PEAT project (“Remote Real- time Riprap Protection Erosion Assessment on large rivers”, UIP-2019-04-4046) supported by Croatian Science Foundation, that explores influences on the riverbed erosion around structure of bridges crossing large rivers in Croatia [3].

Predavanje se bavi izgradnjom i analizom društvenih grafova. Prezentirani su primjeri iz telekomunikacijske i financijske industrije te primjer izgradnje društvenog grafa na temelju interakcije korisnika na društvenoj mreži Facebook.

Facebook, the popular online social network, is used on daily basis by over 1 billion people each day. Its users use it for message exchange, sharing photos, publishing statuses etc. Recent research shows that a possibility exists of determining the connection level (or strength of their friendship, tie strength) between users based on analyzing their interaction on Facebook. The aim of this paper is to explore, as a proof of concept, the possibility of using a model for calculating strength of friendship to compare and classify ego-user’s Facebook friends. A survey, which involved more than 2500 people and collected a significant amount of data, was conducted through a developed web application. Analysis of collected data revealed that the model can determine with a high level of accuracy the stronger connections of ego-user and classify ego-user’s friends into several groups according to the estimated strength of their friendship. Conducted research is the base for creating an enriched social graph – graph which shows all kinds of relations between people and their intensity. Results of this research have plenty of potential uses, one of which is specifically improvement of the education process, especially in the segment of e- learning.

Demand forecasting plays a very important role in retail business. Retail information systems commonly store large amounts of data which are subsequently used by sophisticated data mining tools for building forecasting models. Quality of these models is usually measured through their predictive accuracy as their most important property, followed by other measures which consider average underestimate and overestimate costs etc. Even though the choice of data mining algorithm is usually paramount, training set cleansing and preparation has a significant influence on final model performance. This article discusses and analyses the impact of training set preparation and tailoring on a final forecasting model performance used in a real world example from the retail industry.

U prva dva poglavlja elaborata analiziraju se predlošci za XML-dokumente: DTD i XML Schema. Analizirane su tehnologije za obradu i validaciju XML-dokumenata spram predloška: SAX, DOM, JiBX i XSLT. U trećem poglavlju opisana je tehnologija razmjene poruka u Javi - Java Message Service (JMS). U četvrtom poglavlju objašnjeni su temeljni principi usluga weba. U petom poglavlju analizirani su načini pohrane XML-dokumenata. U šestom poglavlju razmatrana je sigurnost u elektroničkom poslovanju s naglaskom na sigurnost XML-dokumenata, tj. mogućnost njihova digitalnog potpisivanja.

Izvedeni su ispitani te međusobno uspoređeni modeli dubinske analize podataka za predviđanje krovne brojke i akcijskog udjela prodavaonica za zadane artikle koji će omogućiti unaprjeđenje promocijske prodaje. Pri predviđanju krovne brojke potrebno je napraviti dobre procjene na dvije razine: (1) procijeniti krovnu brojku – ukupnu potražnju za određenim artiklom na određenoj akciji na nivou cijele Hrvatske, i (2) predvidjeti najbolju distribuciju – podijeliti akcijski artikl po prodavaonicama kako bi što manje dolazilo do prekomjernih zaliha ili pak do nestašica. Analizirane su postojeće baze podataka vezane uz akcije te skladišta podataka vezana uz maloprodaju, te je napravljen konceptualni model skladišta podataka akcijskih prodaja koji bi omogućio različite analize i višedimenzionalne prikaze podataka vezanih uz akcijsku prodaju.

Transactional data is today’s great resource of information. Unsummarized form of this type of data can reveal interesting relationships between elements of transactions. Hierarchical clustering coupled with usage of appropriate measures can reveal various aspects of these relationships. The choice of measure is a key component for getting useful analysis results. In this paper we present the continuation of our research dealing with these measures by analyzing relationships between them, better understanding of which is a great asset for analysts using them in their transactional data analysis.

Poslovna inteligencija (eng. Business Intelligence, BI) je skup metodologija i koncepata za prikupljanje, analizu i distribuciju podataka (informacija) uz pomoć različitih softverskih alata. U hrvatskom jeziku pojam poslovne inteligencije može se još odnositi na sposobnost shvaćanja i brzog snalaženja neke tvrtke u novim uvjetima poslovanja (Prema Wikipediji). Poslovna inteligencija omogućuje pronalaženje informacija potrebnih za lakše i točnije donošenje poslovnih odluka. Neke od metoda poslovne inteligencije uključuju dubinsku analizu podataka (eng. Data Mining), skladištenje podataka (eng. Data Warehousing) i analitičku obradu podataka OLAP (eng. On Line Analytical Processing). Dakle, poslovna inteligencija omogućava prikaz relevantnih podataka (informacija) upravljačkim strukturama na temelju kojih oni mogu donositi pravovaljane odluke. Osim odgovarajućih metoda koje se koriste za dobivanje relevantnih podataka, ključni element je kvaliteta ulaznih podataka u proces analize. Jedan od vodećih problema poslovnih informacijskih sustava današnjice jest dobivanje kvalitetnih podataka iz različitih izvora podataka. Sustavi su distribuirani, egzistiraju na različitim platformama, koriste različite norme komunikacije i sustave pohranjivanja. Problem integracije nameće se kao jedan od važnijih problema koji treba riješiti postupcima transformacije i korištenjem ontologije kako bi se pripremili konzistentni podaci za analizu postupcima poslovne inteligencije. Kao infrastruktura za poslovnu inteligenciju bitno je oblikovanje skladišta podataka, punjenje skladišta podataka iz različitih vrsta izvora podataka, općenito integracija heterogenih izvora podataka. Ključni naglasak u istraživanjima definiranim ovim projektnim zadatkom je analiza različitih podatkovnih modela za poslovnu inteligenciju u cilju definiranja postupaka transformacije pojedinih modela u prihvatljive modele za skladištenje podataka i dubinsku analizu podataka, rješavanje problema heterogenosti korištenjem definiranih transformacija i ontologija. Za pojedine postupke bit će dani odgovarajući primjeri koji će verificirati odgovarajuće formalne modele. Konačni rezultat bit će studija gdje će se analizirani postupci detaljno opisati.

Koncern AGROKOR, kao najveća privatna i jedna od najuspješnijih hrvatskih kompanija, opredijelio se prije više godina za sustavno uvođenje elektroničkog poslovanja i poslovne inteligencije. U okviru toga u suradnji s FER-om napravljeno je niz istraživanja i unaprjeđenja njegovih postojećih informacijskih sustava. Neke od obrađenih tema su preporučiteljski sustavi, upotreba aplikacija otvorenog koda, izgradnja implicitne korporacijske društvene mreže (iCSN) poduzeća mStart te njezina analiza (SNA), analiza korištenja korporacijskih usluga kao i unaprjeđenje postojećih te razvoj novih aplikacija.

Today’s information systems store large quantities of transactional data which may contain valuable but hidden information. Association rules generation is a method developed for analysis of this type of data. This method is however very resource-intensive. Both the execution time and the final model highly depend on threshold parameters set by the analysts. In this paper we analyze the impact of the minimal support parameter on the number of closed frequent itemsets discovered for various datasets. The analysis is conducted on referential datasets as well as real-life datasets which classify transactional elements in categories organized in hierarchical manner. Datasets that are not originally transactional can be transformed into a transactional form. They exhibit somewhat different relations between the minimal support parameter and the number of discovered closed frequent itemsets. Findings presented in this paper can serve as guidance in setting up support as the most important parameter affecting the final execution time. In order to analyze data characteristics from another perspective, we also present how varying confidence, lift and support can affect the number of formed association rules containing two elements.

Automatizirana poslovna komunikacija pretpostavka je globalnog elektroničkog tržišta. Koncern AGROKOR, kao najveća privatna i jedna od najuspješnijih hrvatskih kompanija, opredijelio se prije više godina za sustavno uvođenje elektroničkog poslovanja i poslovne inteligencije te svoju razgranatu i informatikom podržanu djelatnost sustavno prilagođuje novim uvjetima elektroničkog poslovanja, što otvara velike mogućnosti za učinkovitije poslovanje.

Rad prikazuje istraživanje moguće sinergije između dvaju principa integracije heterogenih sustava - uslužno orijentirane integracije i integracije pogonjene modelom. Ona se izvodi kroz razvoj informacijskog sustava čija uloga je provođenje uslužno orijentiranog poslovnog procesa zasnovanog na metapodacima koji proširuje sustav skladištenja podataka podrškom za stvarnovremensko prikupljanje, preoblikovanje i pohranu podataka. Razvijen je formalizirani model metapodataka zasnovan na proširenju standarda CWM (engl. Common Warehouse Metamodel). Nadalje, specificirani su modeli usluga i obrađene moderne tehnologije podesne za implementaciju navedenog sustava (ukratko nazvanog sustav SOA RT-ETL). Konačno, razvijena je implementacija studijskog primjera koji prikazuje iskoristivost ovakvog pristupa razvoja informacijskih sustava te uz pomoć konkretnih testnih podataka dokazuje učinkovitost razvijenog sustava za pružanje stvarnovremenske podrške skladišnim sustavima u realnom poslovnom okruženju.

Knowledge creation is essential for process improvement in every type of environment. This is also the case in lecturing and grading students at universities. In this paper a visual representation of data is combined with statistical analysis in order to be used for analyzing objectivity of student testing. Predictive data mining is used for timely recognition of students who require additional attention. Regression analysis and decision trees are methods used for this student selection. Comparison of these two methods, as well as a simple method of score border is also given.

In this paper we propose a strategy for enabling a broader use of e-business in Croatian tourism. The core of the strategy is integration of tourist services and products enabled by a tourism portal. The portal will be used by service and product providers, which will register their services/products and offer them publicly to other providers and customers. In this way, complex integrated services of a high quality can be developed for the customers, to the mutual benefit of the customers and all providers. The portal is based on the Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) and will be implemented using technologies such as XML, SOAP and Web services. We present different features of our portal: integration of different services such as on-line accommodation booking, travel ticket booking and weather forecast, using the available data for business analysis, and semantic-aware service browsing.

U projektu u okviru Ugovora o suradnji na području poslovne inteligencije i elektroničkog poslovanja, Aneks 3 Ugovora između FER-ZTEL i KONCERNA AGROKOR predviđene su sljedeće aktivnosti u 2007./2008. godini: projekt izgradnje i izvedbene arhitekture nove mrežne infrastrukture Koncerna Agrokor ; konzultacije o izradi Web aplikacije u programskom jeziku Java ; upravljanje konfiguracijskim elementima – aplikacija za konsolidaciju klijentskih platformi ; dubinska analiza podataka – aplikacija "Proširena potrošačka košarica" ; ontologija za Web portal Konzum Internet prodavaonice ; Hascheck – hrvatski akademski spell checker. Sve predviđene aktivnosti u okviru projekta s obzirom na dostupne podatke i zahtjeve uspješno su obavljene.

U projektu u okviru Ugovora o suradnji na području poslovne inteligencije i elektroničkog poslovanja, Aneks 2 Ugovora između FER-ZTEL i KONCERNA AGROKOR predviđene su sljedeće aktivnosti u 2006./2007. godini: pilot projekt implementacije aplikacija za elektroničko poslovanje na načelu tehnologije BPEL4WS i Web usluga kao efikasan koncept za rješavanje problema heterogenosti ; razrada koncepta efikasnog korištenja klijentskih platformi KONCERNA AGROKOR na temelju relevantnih podataka ; model korporacijske mreže KONCERNA AGROKOR ; analiza mogućnosti primjene dubinske analize podataka (data mining) u području poslovne inteligencije i elektroničkog poslovanja KONCERNA AGROKOR ; definiranje konceptualnog modela WEB sjedišta KONCERNA AGROKOR ; analiza globalnih trendova i inicijativa u elektroničkom poslovanju s posebnim naglaskom na uvođenje semantike u opis poslovnih procesa ; Sve predviđene aktivnosti u okviru projekta s obzirom na dostupne podatke i zahtjeve uspješno su obavljene.

Elektroničko poslovanje po mnogima predstavlja budućnost, novu evolucijsku razinu koja bi uskoro mogla u potpunosti zamijeniti klasične načine poslovanja. Veće tvrtke već uviđaju ove činjenice i često ulažu velika sredstva u informatizaciju komunikacije i poslovne suradnje sa svojim partnerima. No male i srednje tvrtke, koje čine 98,8% ukupnog broja tvrtki u Republici Hrvatskoj često nemaju dovoljno sredstava za implementiranje dosadašnjih priznatih rješenja elektroničkog poslovanja. Ovaj rad prikazuje jednu od mogućih strategija ulaska ovakvih tvrtki u elektroničko poslovanje. Moderne otvorene tehnologije vezane uz Internet te aplikacije izvedene na modularnom principu mogu se koristiti kao izgradbeni blokovi za jedan organizirani elektronički sustav, dok su istovremeno svojom niskom cijenom pristupačne za implementaciju i u tvrtkama sa ograničenim sredstvima predviđenim za uključenje u elektroničko poslovanje. Rad se bavi analizom ovih tehnologija te prikazom konkretne primjene tih tehnologija na studijskom primjeru poslovne aplikacije. E-business is considered by many to be the evolution of business collaborations– a new wave which could in time completely replace the classic way of conducting business. Large companies already accept these facts and are investing large amounts of resources to implement the existing solutions for conducting e-business. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), representing 98,8% of all the companies registered in Croatia, often cannot accept these solutions because of their large cost of implementation. This thesis shows one of the possible strategies for SMEs to enter the world of electronic business. Modern Internet-related technologies and modul-based applications can be used as building blocks for an organized e-business architecture, and are also very appealling to the SMEs because of their global acceptance and low installation cost. The thesis analyses the feasibility of these technologies, and shows their main advantages on a specific business application example.

Elaborat projekta u okviru Ugovora o suradnji na području B2B poslovanja između FER-ZZT i Koncerna Agrokor u okviru kojeg su provedene sljedeće aktivnosti: Proširenje funkcionalnosti i praćenje rada ebXML Registra i Repozitorija, Izrada poslovnog sučelja (BSI - Business Service Interface) za suradnju s poslovnim partnerima, Koncepti i tehnologije za pohranu i pretraživanje podataka iz XML izvora, te postupci inteligentne analize podataka.

SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) need simple generic solutions to ensure smooth transition towards e-business. In order for SMEs to adopt e-business, appropriate framework has to be created and necessary infrastructure developed. Having acknowledged the importance of e-business, we are carrying out research projects aiming to develop generic solutions that will enable SMEs transition to e-business. In this paper we are focused on building tool for the creation of customized business processes - electronic Business Process Tool (eBPT). We accepted ebXML standard as a technical infrastructure backbone, as it offers the solutions to variety of recorded problems. Tool for business process design creates customized, ebXML compliant processes.

Završni izvještaj za projekt ostvaren u suradnji s Koncernom Agrokor. Zadatak projekta je bio istražiti mogućnosti uvođenja ebXML-a kao infrastrukture za elektroničko poslovanje.

As the technology of the Internet is maturing, it is becoming a reliable and secure infrastructure to globally exchange sensitive data. This makes it a feasible medium for conducting business and building a global electronic marketplace. New Internet technologies are emerging which deal with various aspects of this vision. In this paper, experimental installations of two of these technologies are described. One, ebXML, defines an architecture of a global marketplace. The other, Entrust PKI, provides a public key infrastructure used to ensure privacy, authenticity, and security in e-business communications. The PKI services can be used within the ebXML framework.

Most European countries have 90% or more of its economy in small and medium size enterprises (SMEs). Enabling smooth transition of SMEs towards e-business means adopting an e-business framework, as well as building the necessary infrastructure. The ability to present advantages of e-business to the corporate community and to propose solutions in adopting these strategies can be vital. Recent standard for electronic business, ebXML, provides solutions to a variety of problems in business communication between trading partners, such as SMEs. EbXML is designed to create an open source infrastructure, suitable for both SMEs and large companies. It ensures interoperability, low start-up costs, low complexity and robustness, and uses Internet as an e-business backbone. This paper will present main features of ebXML standard over the Internet from both technical and business point of view. Ideas and strategies of founder organizations will be presented, to enable wider perspective of ebXML goals. Authors’ opinion on ebXML from the perspective of developing countries will be elaborated. Finally, we will present the results of ebXML based pilot projects.
