This paper aims to discuss the process of teaching and learning in an Introduction to the Management class, consisting of students who do not belong to the Management course at a University of the Brazilian Northeast. The student group was considered heterogeneous in two ways: because of the diversity of courses from which students came from, and also because of the different stages of the course in which the students were enrolled. This paper brings a reflection about the challenges of dealing with diversity and also work with innovative methodologies of teaching and learning, focusing on the possible contribution of teachers and interns. With this objective, we bring authors that assume different perspectives and approaches to teaching and learning process. As a research methodology, we developed a case study, with observations of the interns and teacher in the process of conducting the classes and, finally, we chose a field research. Results show that, despite the limitations mentioned throughout the paper, this article could bring a significant understanding of the structural elements in the learning process, especially when performed with applications in classes with distinct characteristics of scale and heterogeneity.
