Abstract The rapid proliferation of mobile technology and its widespread integration in education, particularly in language instruction and acquisition, as well as its effectiveness in facilitating collaborative learning, have recently sparked a surge in research focused on collaborative mobile-assisted language learning (C-MALL). This review sought to delineate the current landscape of literature on C-MALL practices, pinpoint research trends, and propose avenues for future research while providing valuable insights for C-MALL pedagogical strategies. To achieve this objective, the review adhered to the PRISMA protocol, analyzing 72 studies sourced from five databases following stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. Key findings encompassed: (1) an escalating yearly publication trend on C-MALL practices, with a substantial spike observed post-2019; (2) a dominant contribution from Asian nations in terms of publication volume; (3) a prevalence of studies conducted in higher education settings employing mixed-method or quantitative methodologies on small sample sizes over short durations; (4) C-MALL designs predominantly leveraging social media collaborative learning platforms via smartphones; and (5) the most prominent keywords being motivation, writing, and engagement. The implications of these findings for both researchers and educational practitioners were thoroughly deliberated upon as per the review outcomes.

Abstract The sensor that simultaneously perceives bending strain and magnetic field has the potential to detect the finger bending state and hand position of the human and robot. Based on unique magneto-mechanical coupling effect of magnetostrictive materials, the proposed a bi-perceptive flexible sensor, consisting of the Co–Fe film and magnetic sensing plane coils, can realize dual information perception of strain/magnetic field through the change of magnetization state. The sensor structure and interface circuit of the sensing system are designed to provide high sensitivity and fast response, based on the input–output characteristics of the simulation model. An asynchronous multi-task deep learning method is proposed, which takes the output of the position task as the partial input of the bending state task to analyze the output information of the sensor quickly and accurately. The sensing system, integrating with the proposed model, can better predict the bending state and approach distance of human or robot hand.

Abstract Wearable devices, such as data gloves and electronic skins, can perceive human instructions, behaviors and even emotions by tracking a hand's motion, with the help of knowledge learning. The shape or position single-mode sensor in such devices often lacks comprehensive information to perceive interactive gestures. Meanwhile, the limited computing power of wearable applications restricts the multimode fusion of different sensing data and the deployment of deep learning networks. We propose a perceptive fusion electronic skin (PFES) with a bioinspired hierarchical structure that utilizes the magnetization state of a magnetostrictive alloy film to be sensitive to external strain or magnetic field. Installed at the joints of a hand, the PFES realizes perception of curvature (joint shape) and magnetism (joint position) information by mapping corresponding signals to the two-directional continuous distribution such that the two edges represent the contributions of curvature radius and magnetic field, respectively. By autonomously selecting knowledge closer to the user's hand movement characteristics, the reinforced knowledge distillation method is developed to learn and compress a teacher model for rapid deployment on wearable devices. The PFES integrating the autonomous learning algorithm can fuse curvature-magnetism dual information, ultimately achieving human machine interaction with gesture recognition and haptic feedback for cross-space perception and manipulation.

Abstract In recent decades, mangrove wetlands globally have suffered from human activities and climate change, leading to issues like area reduction, degraded ecological functions and declining biodiversity. Restoration efforts, primarily through mangrove afforestation (i.e. mangrove plantation in mudflats), have been widespread, yet they often overlook the significance of unvegetated mudflats. In addition, under the condition that the total area of suitable mudflats is limited, the problem of what is the threshold of mangrove forests and unvegetated mudflats to better protect mangrove biodiversity has not been solved. Therefore, this study conducted a field survey of molluscs in mangrove wetlands in Hainan Island in China and explored the relative importance of mangroves and unvegetated mudflats through taxonomic alpha diversity and functional diversity. The results showed that (1) mollusc abundance of unvegetated mudflats was notably higher than this of mangrove forests, and the species richness, functional richness and functional vulnerability were significantly lower than those of mangrove forests; (2) the abundance and functional vulnerability of molluscs were mainly affected by sediment properties (pH, interstitial water salinity, median diameter, total nitrogen, C/N ratio), while the species richness and functional richness of molluscs were primarily influenced by vegetation structure (plant density); and (3) retaining at least 20% of the unvegetated mudflat area could well protect the biodiversity of mangrove wetlands. To our knowledge, our study is the first to propose the proportion of mangrove forests and unvegetated mudflats on the basis of benthic biodiversity, providing theoretical support and decision‐making reference for mangrove protection and restoration.

Abstract The abandoned pond‐to‐mangrove restoration project provides greater advantages than tidal flats afforestation in restoring mangrove ecosystem services and will be the primary method for mangrove restoration in the future. The existing methods for abandoned pond‐to‐mangrove restoration include artificial restoration through ‘dike‐breaking, filling with imported soil and tree planting’ and natural restoration through ‘dike‐breaking and natural succession’. However, little is known about which restoration strategy (natural or artificial restoration) provides more benefits to the biodiversity of mangrove macrobethos. Given a prevailing view suggested that artificial restoration should be the preferred approach for accelerating recovery of biodiversity and vegetation structure in tropical regions, we hypothesised higher macrobenthic biodiversity and more complex community structure in artificial restoration than in natural restoration. To test this hypothesis, macrobenthic biodiversity and ecological processes were monitored in a typical abandoned pond‐to‐mangrove area of Dongzhaigang Bay, China, where artificial and natural restoration methods were used concurrently. Differences in macrobenthic biodiversity, community structure and ecological processes were compared using diversity indices, complex network analysis and null models. Similar species composition and ecological niche overlap and width among macrobenthos were observed at artificial and natural restoration sites. The biotic heterogeneity and interaction among macrobenthos were higher at the natural restoration sites than at the artificial restoration sites. Macrobenthos community assembly at natural and artificial restoration sites was both determined by deterministic processes, with environmental filtering dominating, which explained 52% and 54% of the variations in macrobenthic community structures respectively. Although our findings did not validate the research hypothesis, higher biotic heterogeneity and species interaction among macrobenthos could support natural restoration as the primary method for abandoned pond‐to‐mangrove projects, because it is a nature‐based solution for mangrove restoration.

Introduction Urinary incontinence (UI) is one of the most common chronic diseases among women, which can endanger their physical and mental health and incur a heavy financial burden on both individuals and society. Web-based interventions (WBIs) have been applied to manage women’s UI, but their effectiveness has remained inconclusive. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to explore the effectiveness of WBIs on self-reported symptom severity, condition-specific quality of life, adherence to pelvic floor muscle training (primary outcomes) and other extensive secondary outcomes among women with UI. We also aimed to investigate whether intervention characteristics (format, interactivity and main technology) have impacts on the effectiveness of primary outcomes.Methods and analysis This systematic review protocol was developed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols guidelines. 10 electronic databases will be comprehensively searched from their inception to 1 May 2024, along with grey literature searches and manual reviews of relevant reference lists to identify eligible randomised controlled trials. The methodological quality of the included studies will be assessed by two reviewers based on the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. Meta-analyses will be conducted via Stata V.12.0. Leave-one-out sensitivity analyses will be performed, and publication bias will be evaluated using funnel plots and Egger’s test. Subgroup analyses regarding intervention format, interactivity and main technology will be carried out.Ethics and dissemination No ethics approval is needed for this review since no primary data are to be collected. The results of this review will help develop an optimal WBI for women with UI, thereby providing them with maximum benefits. The findings will be disseminated via a peer-reviewed journal or conference presentation.PROSPERO registration number CRD42023435047.

Catalpa bungei ‘Jinsi’, a cultivar of C. bungei C. A. Mey., is valued for its heartwood with good overall mechanical properties, naturally durable and golden-yellow color. Little is known about heartwood formation in C. bungei ‘Jinsi’ trees. The behavior of starch, water, and nuclei was studied in the xylem tissue of C. bungei ‘Jinsi’ concerning aging in ray parenchyma cells. Blocks containing heartwood, golden zone, transition zone, and sapwood were collected from the stems of six C. bungei ‘Jinsi’ trees. The moisture content of the blocks was measured by oven drying. Changes in starch and nuclei in ray parenchyma were investigated in radial profiles from sapwood to heartwood blocks using microscopy and various staining techniques. The nuclear size and starch content gradually decreased to heartwood. While the horizontal distribution of moisture content of C. bungei ‘Jinsi’ was very varied, with the heartwood and golden zone being lower than sapwood but slightly higher than the transition zone. Starch grains were rare, but nuclei were still present in some ray parenchyma cells in the heartwood and golden zone. The nuclei showed irregular shape and elongation before disintegration. These results suggest that the most apparent change occurs in the transition zone, the critical location involved in forming C. bungei ‘Jinsi’ heartwood. Water and starch appear to be actively engaged in heartwood formation. The loss of function of ray parenchyma cells results from heartwood formation.

Wood can store carbon and help mitigate global climate change. Carbon density (CD), the basis for measuring and analyzing C storage, is the product of wood density (WD) and C concentration, which are dependent on wood structure, cellulose concentration (CC), hemicellulose concentration (HC), and lignin concentration (LC). However, little attention has been paid to the C concentration of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, which are fundamental factors in C storage and affect the credibility of accurate CD estimates. In order to disentangle the CD drives, WD, C concentration, CC, HC, and LC of the branch, stem, and root were quantified for five Rosaceae species from temperate forests in Northeastern China. The species were Sorbus alnifolia (Sieb.et Zucc.) K. Koch, Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim., Malus baccata (L.) Borkh., Crataegus pinnatifida var. major N. E. Brown, and Padus racemosa (Linn.) Gilib. The WD, CC, HC, and LC differed among species and tree organs, with the highest variability for the HC. The structural carbon concentration (SCC) was lower than the organic carbon concentration (OCC) and even the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) default value of 45%, with a maximum deviation of 2.6%. CD differed dramatically among species and tree organs. Based on SCC calculations, the highest CD was found in Sorbus alnifolia root (0.27 × 106 g/m3), while the lowest was found in Padus racemosa branch (0.22 × 106 g/m3). The results suggest that when estimating CD accurately at species level, it is important to consider not only WD but also structural carbohydrates and lignin concentration, providing important information on C fluxes and long-term C sequestration for forests. The study findings provide valuable insights into CD variations among tree species and organs and are valuable for forest management and policy development to improve carbon sequestration.

AbstractBackground Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is a serious public health issue. Dietary changes form the core of MetS treatment. The adherence to dietary recommendations is critical for reducing the severity of MetS components and preventing complications. However, the adherence to dietary recommendations was not adequate among adults with MetS. This study utilizes the Behaviour Change Wheel (BCW) to develop an individualized WeChat mini program-based behavioural change intervention aimed at strengthening adherence to dietary recommendations in people with MetS.Methods The BCW theory was used to design an individualized WeChat mini program-based behavioural change intervention. A descriptive qualitative study was conducted to identify the determinants of adherence to dietary recommendations in individuals with MetS. The study was conducted at the health promotion centre of a prominent general university hospital in Zhejiang, China. Subsequently, the intervention functions (IFs) and policy categories were selected following the identified determinants. Afterwards, behaviour change techniques (BCTs) were chosen to translate into potential intervention strategies, and the delivery mode was determined.Results Our study identified fifteen barriers to improve the adherence to dietary recommendations in this population. These were linked with six IFs: education, training, persuasion, enablement, modelling, and environmental restructuring. Then, twelve BCTs were linked with the IFs and fifteen barriers. The delivery mode was a WeChat mini program. After these actions, an individualized WeChat mini program-based behavioural change intervention was developed to enhance adherence to dietary recommendations for individuals with MetS.Conclusions The BCW theory helped scientifically and systematically develop an individualized WeChat mini program-based behavioural change intervention for individuals with MetS. In the future, our research team will refine and upgrade the WeChat mini program and then test the usability and effectiveness of the individualized WeChat mini program-based behavioural change intervention program.

Fast-growing poplar (Populus tomentosa Carr) can produce wood veneers, but their poor quality restricts their application in construction and building. Modification of wood has the potential to improve its properties. In this study, poplar veneers were impregnated with calcium carbonate (CaCO3) to reinforce their performance. The results showed that CaCO3 was uniformly distributed in cell lumens in impregnated veneers. After impregnation, the maximum weight gain rate was up to 41.4%, and water uptake decreased from 6.82% to 0.94%. The hardness increased from 7.6 to 10.0 MPa, and the extent of wear fell from 0.91% to 0.05%. The ignition time was prolonged, and the heat release rate and total heat release were low. Experimental results demonstrated that CaCO3 improved the physical-mechanical properties and flame retardancy of poplar veneers.

Abstract Background Stress urinary incontinence during pregnancy is closely related to the occurrence of postpartum and long-term urinary incontinence. Early pelvic floor management is of great significance in promoting the recovery of pelvic floor tissues in pregnant women. However, effective management of urinary incontinence is far from achievable owing to the low adherence of pregnant women in partaking in pelvic floor rehabilitation. As a comprehensive framework for behavioural theory, the Theoretical Domain Framework allows for comprehensive identification of behavioural determinants. Using Theoretical Domain Framework, this study aimed to identify barriers and enablers of pelvic floor rehabilitation behaviours in pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence. Methods A descriptive, qualitative design was used in this study. Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence based on the Theoretical Domain Framework. The data were analysed using a combination of inductive and deductive methods. Results Twenty pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence were interviewed. Seven themes were summarised and used to explain the pelvic floor rehabilitation behaviours of pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence. The seven themes were (1) individual knowledge and experience of pelvic floor management, (2) judgments about expected outcomes, (3) interactions of interpersonal situations, (4) environment, resources, and decision-making processes, (5) personal goal-setting and efforts towards behaviour change, (6) emotional influences on decision-making, and (7) personal characteristics. Besides the "Optimism" domain, 13 of the 14 Theoretical Domains Framework domains were found to influence pregnant patients' pelvic floor rehabilitation behaviours after deductive mapping of themes to the Theoretical Domains Framework. In addition, the inductive analysis generated a theme of personal characteristics that did not map to any of the Theoretical Domains Framework domains. Conclusions The pelvic floor rehabilitation behaviours of pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence are complex and are affected by many factors. The findings confirm the need for multiple interventions to support pelvic floor management in pregnant women with stress urinary incontinence, focusing on enhancing knowledge and skills in pelvic floor care and using appropriate behaviour change techniques (such as prompts) to provide a supportive environment.

Compressive stress, a DC bias magnetic field, and an AC excitation field significantly affect hysteresis characteristics and magnetic energy losses of magnetostrictive materials. Therefore, studying high frequency magnetic losses of magnetostrictive materials under coupling of these three conditions is of great importance for improving the output performance of high power magnetostrictive transducers. In this paper, a magnetic property testing system for magnetostrictive materials has been constructed. It enables the magnetic property testing of Terfenol-D alloy rods under the simultaneous application of stress and DC bias at high frequency excitation (a maximum AC magnetic flux density of 0.5 T at an excitation frequency of 9 kHz). Based on Bertotti separation theory and experimental data, considering the coupling effect of stress and DC bias, a computational model for the high frequency magnetic losses of Terfenol-D materials is proposed. The model incorporates relevant parameters of stress and DC bias to modify loss coefficients, and the expressions for loss coefficients are identified using the symbolic regression method. A comparative analysis between experimental data and model calculation shows good agreement, with the maximum and average errors of 4.68% and 1.74%, respectively.

BackgroundMetabolic syndrome (MetS) is a common public health challenge. Health-promoting behaviors such as diet and physical activity are central to preventing and controlling MetS. However, the adoption of diet and physical activity behaviors has always been challenging. An individualized mobile health (mHealth)–based intervention using the Behavior Change Wheel is promising in promoting health behavior change and reducing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk. However, the effects of this intervention are not well understood among people with MetS in mainland China. ObjectiveWe aimed to evaluate the effects of the individualized mHealth-based intervention using the Behavior Change Wheel on behavior change and ASCVD risk in people with MetS. MethodsWe conducted a quasi-experimental, nonrandomized study. Individuals with MetS were recruited from the health promotion center of a tertiary hospital in Zhejiang province, China. The study involved 138 adults with MetS, comprising a control group of 69 participants and an intervention group of 69 participants. All participants received health education regarding diet and physical activity. The intervention group additionally received a 12-week individualized intervention through a WeChat mini program and a telephone follow-up in the sixth week of the intervention. Primary outcomes included diet, physical activity behaviors, and ASCVD risk. Secondary outcomes included diet self-efficacy, physical activity self-efficacy, knowledge of MetS, quality of life, and the quality and efficiency of health management services. The Mann-Whitney U test and Wilcoxon signed rank test were primarily used for data analysis. Data analysis was conducted based on the intention-to-treat principle using SPSS (version 25.0; IBM Corp). ResultsBaseline characteristics did not differ between the 2 groups. Abstract Background Adherence to physical activity is inadequate in adults with metabolic syndrome. Adherence to physical activity recommendations is crucial and can result in improved health outcomes and reduced medical burdens. A comprehensive behavior change intervention, including identifying determinants of adherence to physical activity recommendations, intervention options, intervention content and implementation options, was imperative for enhancing physical activity adherence. The aim of the study is to develop an intervention to increase physical activity adherence among individuals with metabolic syndrome. Methods The study followed the eight steps of the Behavior Change Wheel guide, including defining the problem in behavioral terms (Step 1), selecting target behavior (Step 2), specifying target behavior (Step 3), identifying what needs to change (Step 4), identifying intervention functions (Step 5), identifying policy categories (Step 6), identifying behavior change techniques (Step 7), and determining model of delivery (Step 8). The semi-structured, in-depth interviews were employed to identify the determinants of adherence to physical activity among twenty-eight individuals with metabolic syndrome based on capability, opportunity, motivation and behavior model. Next, the intervention functions and policy categories were chosen to address these determinants. Finally, behavior change techniques were selected to assist in the delivery of the intervention functions and be translated into intervention content. Results Our study identified eighteen facilitators and fifteen barriers to physical activity adherence. It resulted in the selection of seven intervention functions and nineteen behavior change techniques for the intervention program. Then, the current study identified an app as the delivery mode. Finally, a behavioral change intervention was generated for individuals with metabolic syndrome to increase physical activity recommendation adherence. Conclusions The Behavior Change Wheel provided a systematic approach to designing a behavior change intervention, which helped improve the health outcomes and reduce medical burdens and economic burdens among individuals with metabolic syndrome. The findings suggested that potential intervention should pay special attention to increasing knowledge in metabolic syndrome, imparting skills of physical activity, offering a supportive environment, and providing suggestions on regular physical activity using the appropriate behavior change techniques. A feasibility study will be undertaken to assess the acceptability and effectiveness of the intervention program in the future.

Introduction Regular physical activity during pregnancy is effective in preventing diseases and promoting the health outcomes of mothers and babies. However, the level of physical activity among them is not ideal. Especially in China, the proportion of pregnant women who meet the recommendation of physical activity in the guidelines is even lower. Thus, we aim to evaluate the prevalence of meeting physical activity recommendation and its influencing factors during pregnancy in China.Methods and analysis This protocol is developed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols guidelines. PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (Weipu) and WanFang Data will be comprehensively searched by two reviewers. Studies that report the prevalence of Chinese pregnant women meeting physical activity recommendation will be included. Two reviewers will independently assess eligibility, extract data and evaluate methodological quality. Data including authors, publication years, language, geographical region, tools, trimesters, prevalence and influence factors will be extracted. Data will be analysed by Stata V.11 statistical software.Ethics and dissemination No formal ethics approval is required for this protocol and no primary data are to be collected. Findings from this review may be useful to develop interventions for the physical activity of pregnant women in China. Understanding the value of ecosystem services is imperative for the welfare of current and future generations. Anxi town is situated within the mountainous terrain of Fujian province, China and characterized by a diverse range of ecosystems encompassing forests, rivers, and mountains. These ecosystems offer a wide range of ecosystem services. The value of ecosystem services has been declining in the county for the past twenty-years. However, limited is known on the spatial changes and factors affecting the value of these Therefore, current study assessed the spatial changes in the value of ecosystem services (provisioning, regulating, supporting, and cultural) in 24 townships situated in the county for three time periods, i.e., 1999, 2009, and 2019 and factors affecting these services. The results revealed that annual decline in the value of ecosystem services was higher in 1999–2009 than 2009–2019. Longjuan, Xianghua, Gande, Futian, Changkeng, Xiping, Taozhou and Huqiu townships observed the highest annual decline in the value of ecosystem services ranging from 20.1 to 68.1 million yuan. The GWR model indicated that vegetation index had the highest impact on the value of ecosystem services in the county. Overall, the value of ecosystem services was negatively correlated with the urbanization rate and distance from the road with some exceptions, whereas altitude had a positive impact. All townships (except Xianghua, Futian, and Taozhou) had negative values for water supply services. Hence, water supply is a significant ecological issue in the county. It is concluded that tea farmers in the county should be educated about water and soil conservation, investment should be done in conservation measures, regional ecological environments should be protected, and ecological tea planting techniques should be developed in the county to halt further decrease in the value of ecosystem services.

Background: The interaction of ecosystem services (ESs) has attracted great attention as land use changes at the landscape scale to synergize ecological and economic benefits, while the influence of landscape structure on the interaction of ESs has received less investigation. Methods: We proposed an integrated framework to analyze the influence of the sloping land conversion program (SLCP) on the interaction of ESs and provided a case study of a forest-tea landscape in Gande town, Anxi County, located on the southeastern coast of China. Visualizing the land use change under the implementation of the SLCP on the map, quantitatively measuring metrics of landscape structure, and comparing ES provisioning indicate ES interactions. Results: The results show that ecological and economic benefits are synergistic in Gande under the implementation of the SLCP, as more forestland and farmland was converted from tea gardens. Moreover, the forest-tea-agricultural product landscape structure promotes sustainable landscape management. Conclusion: It makes sense that landscape structure changes the influence of land use policies under the different social economic and economic contexts, and ES interactions are dynamic with different landscape structures.

Abstract Karst tiankengs are rare natural habitats, having a local microclimate different from surrounding regions. A contrast study on plant communities at the inside and outside of the primitive tiankeng was carried out by performing the qualitative analysis of species compositions of arborous and shrub layers. We found that plant communities in the primitive tiankeng belong to the subtropical moist evergreen broad-leaf forest, whereas those outside the tiankeng belong to subtropical semi-moist needle-broadleaved mixed forest. Trapped habitat of primitive karst tiankeng protects the plant communities significantly different from those in external karst ecosystems, so karst tiankeng has the great value in the plant species protection. Although the trapped habitat decreases plant species abundance inside tiankeng to some extent, highly diverse shrub species are present in the inside-tiankeng plant communities, and the primitive karst tiankeng plays an important role in the plant diversity protection. The primitive karst tiankeng is an important refugia for plant not only as a plant species protection library, but a plant diversity protection library. When implementing measures for the reduction of damages to biodiversity due to global climate changes and human activities, more attention should be paid to the primitive karst tiankeng as a small ecological refugia and biodiversity protection library.

BackgroundWith the refinement of cryopreservation technology, the number of frozen-warmed embryo transfer (FET) cycles and cryopreserved embryos has increased rapidly. However, studies investigating the effect of storage duration on pregnancy outcomes after vitrification are limited and their results are controversial. Furthermore, the available studies did not take patients’ demographic nor clinical treatment characteristics into account and the cryo-storage duration was short. So this study aimed to explore the effect of storage duration of vitrified warmed embryos on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes in patients with good prognosis and long storage duration of vitrified embryos.MethodsThis study was a bi-centre, retrospective study including 1037 women undergoing their first FET cycles following a fresh cycle from January 2012 until December 2021. Patients were divided into four storage groups in accordance with the storage duration of transferred embryos (612 patients in group I, with storage duration between 1 and 6 months; 202 patients in group II, with storage duration between 7 and 12 months; 141 patients in group III, with storage duration between 13 and 36 months; and 76 patients in group IV, with storage duration between 37 and 84 months). The pregnancy and neonatal outcomes were compared amongst different storage duration groups.ResultsAmongst the different groups, no significant differences were observed in the pregnancy outcomes, including biochemical pregnancy rate, implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, ongoing pregnancy rate and live birth rate. In addition, no evidence of differences amongst different storage duration groups was observed in terms of preterm birth, birth length and low birthweight.ConclusionsThe pregnancy and neonatal outcomes of embryos after vitrification were not impaired by storage duration up to 7 years.

Background and AimFear of childbirth (FOC) is one of the most common mental health concerns among expectant fathers, which can cause adverse consequences for themselves and their families. A valid and accurate tool is the key to the identification of FOC. This study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the fathers’ fear of childbirth scale (FFCS) into simplified Chinese and test the scale’s psychometric properties among expectant fathers in mainland China.MethodsResearchers obtained translation permission and followed the multiphase translation guidelines to develop the Chinese version of the fathers’ fear of childbirth scale (C-FFCS). Relevant psychometric properties were selected for the scale’s psychometric validation on the basis of the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Status Measurement Instruments checklist. In this cross-sectional study, two samples of expectant fathers were collected in a university-affiliated hospital in Hangzhou between September and October 2022.ResultsA total of 381 expectant fathers completed the C-FFCS, resulting in an effective response rate of 95.6%. The C-FFCS is a 3-factor structure consisting of 16 items, which explained 66.374% of the total variance. The content validity index of items ranged from 0.833 to 1.00, and the scale-level content validity index was 0.931. The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the scale’s 3-factor structure. Evidence of convergent validity (average variance extracted = 0.508–0.780) as well as discriminant validity offered excellent psychometric support. BackgroundEffective management of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is essential because it is one of the most prevalent diseases during pregnancy, and the consequent condition maternal hyperglycemia is closely related to considerable short- and long-term maternal and neonatal complications. Web-based interventions (WBIs), defined as therapeutic interventions offered via the web, have been implemented to assist in managing GDM owing to their advantages of high accessibility and efficiency, but findings across relevant studies are inconsistent. ObjectiveThis systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of WBIs on glycemic control among pregnant women with GDM; examine whether specific types of intervention interactivity, format, and technology have beneficial effects on maternal glycemic control; and comprehensively assess the efficacy of WBIs in maternal behavioral outcomes, cognitive and attitudinal outcomes, mental health, maternal and neonatal clinical outcomes, and medical service use and costs among pregnant women with GDM. MethodsPubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CINAHL, and PsycINFO were searched from their respective inception to November 19, 2022, to identify relevant randomized controlled trials and controlled clinical trials. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Effective Public Health Practice Project tool. Where possible, the data for all outcomes were meta-analyzed using the Stata software (version 12.0; StataCorp). Overall, 3 subgroup analyses and post hoc sensitivity analyses of maternal glycemic control parameters were performed. ResultsOverall, 25 publications arising from 21 randomized controlled trials and controlled clinical trials were included. The overall meta-analyses on glycemic control parameters demonstrated that WBIs could significantly improve fasting blood glucose (standardized mean difference=−1.764, 95% CI −2.972 to −0.557; P=.004) and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose (standardized mean difference=−1.433, 95% CI −2.561 to −0.304; P=.01) compared with the control group, whereas no significant effect was found on glycated hemoglobin and 1-hour postprandial blood glucose. The results of the subgroup analyses indicated that mobile app–delivered interventions with a personalized format and interactive function showed more beneficial effects on maternal glycemic control. Moreover, WBIs could significantly enhance compliance with the self-monitoring of blood glucose; increase the rate of normal vaginal delivery; and decrease the chance of emergency cesarean, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, and composite neonatal complications. GDM knowledge, risk perception of the disease, self-efficacy, satisfaction with care, and medical service use of the participants in the WBI group were also improved compared with the control group. However, the effectiveness of WBIs on other secondary outcomes was either nonsignificant or uncertain. ConclusionsWBIs are a promising approach to GDM management. Personalized, interactive, and mobile app–delivered interventions seem more worthy of being recommended for future clinical practice. Further high-quality studies are required to verify these findings before making broad recommendations. Karst tiankengs, as one of the most magnificent negative topographies, are capable of forming a bank for species diversity conservation easily. More than 300 karst tiankengs have been discovered and identified worldwide. Given its treacherous terrain, although original karst tiankeng were identified as species refuges, the broader distribution of degraded karst tiankeng has not been systematically studied. Our study area comprised the degraded karst tiankeng cluster immersed in the fragmented karst forests of Yunnan, China. Fifty-eight plant samples were selected from karst tiankengs and surface. We compared species composition, and analyzed diversity indices and similarity coefficients to verify the isolation effect of karst tiankengs on floras. The results indicated that: (1) In the degraded karst tiankeng, there were 24 families, 37 genera and 48 species in the tree layer and 27 families, 43 genera and 49 species in the shrub layer. Outside the degraded karst tiankengs, 20 families, 31 genera and 39 species were in the tree layer, and the shrub layer included 26 families, 44 genera and 55 species. (2) The species composition reached significant differences within and outside degraded karst tiankeng (p < 0.05) based on the analysis of variance (ANOVA). (3) In the degraded karst tiankeng, species richness/diversity in trees were higher than those in the shrub layer, while at the surface, shrubs had higher richness and lower diversity than trees by Alpha-diversity index. And for Beta-diversity index, species similarity among degraded karst tiankengs (0.215) was extremely dissimilar, which was even lower than the contrast within and outside the degraded karst tiankengs (0.272). (4) Shared species ranged from 1 to 5 among the four habitats, with high variability in plant species across the habitat matrices. Through a comparative analysis of systematic biodiversity methods, we found that the degraded karst tiankengs, an independent type of karst tiankeng, are the unreported refugia. Species records in degraded karst tiankeng cluster will contribute to plant diversity conservation and resource management, and to the linkage with broader China’s karst floras. Karst tiankeng botanical habitats possess not only biodiversity value for in situ conservation, but will further support the ecological recovery of surface flora. While its mechanism needs to be further revealed.

Sirex nitobei is an important wood-boring wasp to conifers native to Asia, causing considerable economic and ecological damage. However, the current control means cannot achieve better efficiency, and it is expected to clarify the molecular mechanism of protein–ligand binding for effective pest control. This study analyzed the expression pattern of CSP2 in S. nitobei (SnitCSP2) and its features of binding to the screened ligands using molecular docking and dynamic simulations. The results showed that SnitCSP2 was significantly expressed in female antennae. Molecular docking and dynamic simulations revealed that SnitCSP2 bound better to the host plant volatile (+)-α-pinene and symbiotic fungal volatiles terpene and (−)-globulol than other target ligands. By the molecular mechanics Poisson–Boltzmann surface area (MM-PBSA) method, the free binding energies of the three complexes were calculated as −44.813 ± 0.189 kJ/mol, −50.446 ± 0.396 kJ/mol, and −56.418 ± 0.368 kJ/mol, and the van der Waals energy was found to contribute significantly to the stability of the complexes. Some key amino acid residues were also identified: VAL13, GLY14, LYS61, MET65, and LYS68 were important for the stable binding of (+)-α-pinene by SnitCSP2, while for terpenes, ILE16, ALA25, TYR26, CYS29, GLU39, THR37, and GLY40 were vital for a stable binding system. We identified three potential ligands and analyzed the interaction patterns of the proteins with them to provide a favorable molecular basis for regulating insect behavioral interactions and developing new pest control strategies.

Background and aimThe postpartum depression literacy (PoDLi) of perinatal women is closely related to the occurrence, recognition, and treatment of postpartum depression, therefore valid instruments for evaluating the level of PoDLi are of great significance for both research and clinical practice. This study aimed to cross-culturally adapt the postpartum depression literacy scale (PoDLiS) into Chinese and to test its psychometric properties among Chinese perinatal women.Materials and methodsA cross-sectional study was conducted from April to May 2022 in a tertiary hospital in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. 619 out of the 650 perinatal women that were approached via a convenience sampling method completed the Chinese version of the PoDLiS (C-PoDLiS). Content validity [the content validity index of items (I-CVI) and scale-level content validity index (S-CVI)] was evaluated by an expert panel. Psychometric properties, including item analysis, structure validity (exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis), convergent and discriminant validity, reliability (internal consistency, test-retest reliability), criterion validity (concurrent validity, predictive validity), and floor/ceiling effect were examined.ResultsThe final version of C-PoDLiS is a six-factor structure consisting of 27 items, which explained 61.00% of the total variance. Adequate content validity (I-CVI = 0.833–1.00, S-CVI = 0.920) was ensured by the expert panel. The modified confirmatory factor analysis model revealed that the 6-factor model fitted the data well (χ2/df = 1.532, root mean square error of approximation = 0.042, goodness of fit = 0.900, incremental fit index = 0.949, comparative fit index = 0.948, Tucker–Lewis index = 0.940). The total Cronbach’s α was 0.862, the total McDonald’s ω was 0.869, and the test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.856. Results of convergent validity (average variance extracted = 0.486–0.722) and discriminant validity provided good or acceptable psychometric support. Significant correlations between scores of the C-PoDLiS and Mental health literacy scale (r = 0.155–0.581, p < 0.01) and Attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help short form scale (r = 0.361–0.432, p < 0.01) supported good concurrent and predictive validity, respectively. No floor/ceiling effect was found.ConclusionThe C-PoDLiS was demonstrated to be a sound instrument with good reliability and validity for evaluating Chinese perinatal women’s PoDLi levels. Its use in the future can facilitate data aggregation and outcome comparisons across different studies on this topic.

Tilia amurensis Rupr. and Tilia mandshurica Rupr. and Maxim. are two essential commercial species, though there is surprisingly little concern about whether their branches can be used in the current situation of a wood shortage in China. In this study, tissue proportions and fiber morphology, physical and mechanical properties, and chemical composition of the branchwood were studied and compared with stemwood to evaluate the potential for papermaking. The branchwood and stemwood showed similar cell arrangement but different tissue proportions and fiber morphology. The branchwood had more than 40% fiber proportion, 90%–97% below 0.9 mm in length, 75%–90% less than 33 in slenderness ratio, and 80% less than 1 in Runkel ratio. The branchwood was as light and soft as stemwood with a density of 0.32–0.36 g/cm3 and a compressive strength of about 30 MPa. The branchwood had 6% water extractives, 66% holocellulose, and 22% lignin for T. amurensis, 58% holocellulose and 30% lignin for T. mandshurica. The results suggest the branchwood is favorable for mechanical chipping, has the potential to obtain high pulp yield and its fibers can be mixed with wide, long and thick fibers from other tree species to produce specific paper products. In contrast, T. mandshurica branchwood may not be suitable for chemical pulping.

Myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma (MIFS) is a rare, low-grade malignant soft tissue tumor. Most of the previously reported cases about this tumor were diagnosed within the soft tissues. Here, we report a unique case of MIFS of the right parotid gland in a 39-year-old Chinese male. The tumor primarily consisted of an inflammatory area and a mucus-like area in a migratory distribution. A number of lymphocytes, neutrophils, viral-like cells with large nucleoli, and eosinophilic cytoplasm or Reed-Sternberg-like cells, as well as spindle cells and epithelial-like aberrant cells, were observed within the tumor. They were found to express Vimentin and CD10 protein and no other specific immunohistochemical markers. The various cytomorphology and immunohistochemical features of this tumor were highly consistent with MIFS found in other sites. Therefore, several leading pathologists ultimately confirmed the final diagnosis of MIFS in the right parotid gland after repeated deliberation. To our knowledge, this is the first case of MIFS occurring in the parotid gland. Thus, our study provides a novel basis for identifying the biological behavior of the tumor in MIFS and also allows us to better understand the pathology of this rare tumor.

Magnetostrictive materials have excellent magneto-mechanical properties and are widely used in the field of energy conversion. Temperature has an important influence on the magnetic properties of them. Accurately studying the temperature dependence of magnetostrictive materials is a necessary prerequisite for the design of precision actuators. In this paper, we constructed a high-frequency magnetic property measurement system that can control the temperature. The magnetic characteristics of Terfenol-D, Fe-Ga and Fe-Co were measured at temperatures ranging from 10 °C to 80 °C, the frequencies from 1 kHz to 20 kHz and magnetic induction amplitudes from 0.01 T to 0.07 T. The temperature dependence of the three materials under different exciting conditions was comprehensively compared. The variation trends and temperature sensitivities of the coercivity, permeability, equivalent inductance, equivalent resistance and the magnetic energy losses are analyzed respectively. The results of this paper are oriented to practical engineering applications and can be used for high-frequency loss prediction and temperature control system design.

Background: Brain functional alterations have been observed in children with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (CSNHL). The purpose of this study was to assess the alterations of regional homogeneity in children with CSNHL.Methods: Forty-five children with CSNHL and 20 healthy controls were enrolled into this study. Brain resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) for regional homogeneity including the Kendall coefficient consistency (KCC-ReHo) and the coherence-based parameter (Cohe-ReHo) was analyzed and compared between the two groups, i.e., the CSNHL group and the healthy control group.Results: Compared to the healthy controls, children with CSNHL showed increased Cohe-ReHo values in left calcarine and decreased values in bilateral ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (VLPFC) and right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). Children with CSNHL also had increased KCC-ReHo values in the left calcarine, cuneus, precentral gyrus, and right superior parietal lobule (SPL) and decreased values in the left VLPFC and right DLPFC. Correlations were detected between the ReHo values and age of the children with CSNHL. There were positive correlations between ReHo values in the pre-cuneus/pre-frontal cortex and age (p < 0.05). There were negative correlations between ReHo values in bilateral temporal lobes, fusiform gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus and precentral gyrus, and age (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Children with CSNHL had RoHo alterations in the auditory, visual, motor, and other related brain cortices as compared to the healthy controls with normal hearing. There were significant correlations between ReHo values and age in brain regions involved in information integration and processing. Our study showed promising data using rs-fMRI ReHo parameters to assess brain functional alterations in children with CSNHL.

Insects stimulate specific behaviors by correctly recognizing scent molecules in the external environment. Sirex nitobei, a wood-boring wasp species native to Asia with a distribution area that includes the Palaearctic and Oriental regions, is a significant pest of conifers. Focusing on the molecular mechanism of protein-ligand binding, this study resolved the tissue expression profile of CSP4 from S. nitobei (SnitCSP4) and probed its binding properties with target ligands using molecular docking and dynamics simulations to verify the odor recognition function of this protein. The open reading frame (ORF) of SnitCSP4 was 396 bp, encoding 131 amino acids. Tissue expression analysis revealed that SnitCSP4 was significantly expressed in female antennae and docking showed that all ligands were bound in hydrophobic cavities and close to many hydrophobic amino acid residues. GLN68 and LEU49 were important amino acid residues for SnitCSP4 to bind various odors, and THR9 was the key ligand-binding site in identifying (-)-globulol in the SnitCSP4. Molecular dynamics verified the docking results, confirming that SnitCSP4 bound well to two sex pheromone molecules, three host plant volatiles, and three symbiotic fungal volatiles, with (Z)-7-heptacosene, (Z)-9-nonacosene, and (-)-globulol binding being the most highly stable. These results mean that SnitCSP4 is critical for insects recognizing scent molecules, providing a favorable molecular basis for regulating the behavioral interactions between S. nitobei and the environment, and offering the possibility of developing new strategies for more environmentally friendly and effective control.

The effect of variable compressive stress on hysteresis, eddy-current, and anomalous losses in magnetostrictive materials is investigated by the built magnetic characteristic testing system. Based on experimental results of Terfenol-D and loss separation theory, the trends of loss coefficients of three variables, magnetic frequency f, peak flux magnetic density Bm, and compressive stress σ, are analyzed. The reasons for the change in losses are explained from the point of view of micro-magnetism and physical mechanism. A variable coefficient magnetic energy loss calculating model considering compressive stress is derived using the algorithm of Levenberg–Marquardt and the method of multivariate parametric regression. The experimental and computed results of magnetic energy losses are compared and analyzed under different operating conditions. The analysis results show that the proposed model could well predict the losses under compressive stress at high-frequencies (5–20 kHz). The average error of the computed and experimental results is 5.5%. This research has improving significance in giving theoretical guidance for magneto-mechanical design in the high-frequency operated conditions of magnetostrictive devices.

Venenum Bufonis, a well-known traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used in Asia and has gained popularity in Western countries over the last decade. Venenum Bufonis has obvious side effects that have been observed in clinical settings, but few studies have reported on its cardiotoxicity. In this work, the cardiotoxicity of Venenum Bufonis was investigated using a 11H NMR-based metabolomics approach. The 1H NMR profiles of the serum, myocardial extracts and liver extracts of specific-pathogen-free rats showed that Venenum Bufonis produced significant metabolic perturbations dose-dependently with a distinct time effect, peaking at 2 hr after dosing and attenuating gradually. Clinical chemistry, electrocardiographic recordings, and histopathological evaluation provided additional evidence of Venenum Bufonis-induced cardiac damage that complemented and supported the metabolomics findings. The combined results demonstrated that oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and energy metabolism perturbations were associated with the cardiac damage that results from Venenum Bufonis.

Ornamental trees are being promoted to supplement wood for industrial applications in China. To determine the wood utilization potential of an ornamental tree species, Sorbus alnifolia, this study investigated the radial variation of anatomical characteristics of its wood cross-section. The results showed that S. alnifolia is porous with high cell wall percentage, fiber percentage, and vessel percentage, small fiber and vessel sizes, and low vessel frequency. The transition age between juvenile wood and mature wood is 7 to 11 years for vessels, 12 to 16 years for axial parenchyma, and 18 to 24 years for fibers. Mature wood exhibits a higher percentage of cell walls, thicker fiber walls, and a lower percentage of vessels than juvenile wood. This result implies that wood is easy to dry, has strong permeability, good physical and mechanical properties, and a high fiber yield. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
