The mechanical microenvironment plays a crucial role in the evolution of colorectal cancer, a complex disease characterized by heterogeneous tumors with varying elasticity. Toward setting up distinct scenarios, herein, we describe the preparation and characterization of gelatin methacrylamide (GelMA)-based hydrogels via two different mechanisms: free-radical photopolymerization and photo-induced thiol-ene reaction. A precise stiffness modulation of covalently crosslinked scaffolds was achieved through the application of well-defined irradiation times while keeping the intensity constant. Besides, the incorporation of thiol chemistry strongly increased stiffness with low to moderate curing times. This wide range of finely tuned mechanical properties successfully covered from healthy tissue to colorectal cancer stages. Hydrogels prepared in phosphate-buffered saline or Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium resulted in different mechanical and swelling properties, although a similar trend was observed for both conditions: thiol-ene systems exhibited higher stiffness and, at the same time, higher swelling capacity than free-radical photopolymerized networks. In terms of biological behavior, three of the substrates showed good cell proliferation rates according to the formation of a confluent monolayer of Caco-2 cells after 14 days of cell culture. Likewise, a characteristic apical-basal polarization of cells was observed for these three hydrogels. These results demonstrate the versatility of the presented platform of biomimetic materials as in vitro cell culture scaffolds.

Here we determine when an operator that commutes up to a factor with the differentiation operator D, defined on the space of entire functions, is frequently hypercyclic.

Here, we continued the studies initiated by Vinod K. Bhardwaj and Shweta Dhawan which relate different convergence methods involving the classical statistical and the classical strong Cesàro convergences by means of lacunary sequences and measures of density in N modulated by a modulus function f. A method for constructing non-compatible modulus functions was also included, which is related to symmetries with respect to y=x.

The aim of the study was to identify and characterize outcome measures for objective and subjective assessment in persons with Rett syndrome (RS).A systematic review was conducted consulting the EBSCO, Cochrane, Web of Science, Scielo, MEDLINE and PsycINFO databases for published studies describing the use of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and other outcome measures in persons with RS. Validation studies and observational studies were included. The PROMs were first described, and then the measurement properties were evaluated using predefined criteria according to the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN). The outcome measures were then grouped according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) to establish a relationship between outcome measures and ICF domains.Twenty out of 2327 articles were appraised, and seventeen different outcome measures were identified and described. Ten outcome measures corresponded to evaluation questionnaires, while the remaining seven assessed functional outcomes: walking distance, physical activity level and ability to interact visually. A relation between these outcome measures that assess RS and the ICF allows understanding that most of the instruments (fifteen) include the assessment of activity limitations.The findings of this study seem to be promising for their use by clinicians and researchers, although they have methodological limitations. The accuracy and quality of these individual outcome measures should continue to be assessed in an attempt to gather a consensus on the best tools used in RS.

Introduction. Bacteriemia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among hospitalized patients worldwide. Early identification of microorganisms from blood culture can lead to improvement of treatment and outcomes. Methods. The study was divided into two phases. The first phase when a comparison of the methods was made to check the concordance between them, using as a reference the standard method implemented in the laboratory. In a second phase, both methods are combined. We used the rapid identification method and when it could not identify we used the standard method. The microorganisms that were not identified by either of the two methods were identified from colony at 24 hours Results. A total of 589 microbial positive blood cultures have been included in the present study. With the rapid method we obtained 96% and 88% identification results for Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) and Gram-positive cocci (GPC) respectively. In this study we observed that the combination of the rapid and standard method achieved identifications of 98% and 97% for GNB and GPC respectively. Conclusions. The data analysed shows that both methods combined perform better than individually. We achieved an optimization of the identification of microorganisms directly from positive blood cultures by MALDI-TOF. This combination identified 98% of the microorganisms in between ten minutes to one hour and a half since the blood culture flagged positive.

In earlier works, F. León and coworkers discovered a remarkable structure between statistical convergence and strong Cesàro convergence, modulated by a function f (called a modulus function). Such nice structure pivots around the notion of compatible modulus function. In this paper, we will explore such a structure in the framework of lacunary statistical convergence for double sequences and discover that such structure remains true for lacunary compatible modulus functions. Thus, we continue the work of Hacer Şenül, Mikail Et and Yavuz Altin, and we fully solve some questions posed by them.

The epidemiology of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) has changed, influenced by sociosanitary conditions and vaccination status. We aimed to analyze the recent epidemiology of bacterial CAP in hospitalized children in a setting with high pneumococcal vaccination coverage and to describe the clinical characteristics of pediatric Staphylococcus aureus CAP.Children17 years old hospitalized from 2008 to 2018 with bacterial CAP in 5 tertiary hospitals in Spain were included. Cases with pneumococcal CAP were randomly selected as comparative group following a case-control ratio of 2:1 with S. aureus CAP.A total of 313 bacterial CAP were diagnosed: Streptococcus pneumoniae CAP (n = 236, 75.4%), Streptococcus pyogenes CAP (n = 43, 13.7%) and S. aureus CAP (n = 34, 10.9%). Throughout the study period, the prevalence of S. pyogenes increased (annual percentage change: +16.1% [95% CI: 1.7-32.4], P = 0.031), S. pneumoniae decreased (annual percentage change: -4.4% [95 CI: -8.8 to 0.2], P = 0.057) and S. aureus remained stable. Nine isolates of S. aureus (26.5%) were methicillin-resistant. Seventeen cases (50%) with S. aureus CAP had some pulmonary complication and 21 (61.7%) required intensive care. S. pneumoniae CAP showed a trend toward higher prevalence of pulmonary complications compared with S. aureus CAP (69.1% vs. 50.0%, P = 0.060), including higher frequency of pulmonary necrosis (32.4% vs. 5.9%, P = 0.003).The incidence of S. aureus CAP in children remained stable, whereas the prevalence of pneumococcal CAP decreased and S. pyogenes CAP increased. Patients with S. aureus presented a high frequency of severe outcomes, but a lower risk of pulmonary complications than patients with S. pneumoniae.

The Iberoatlantic region (covering mainly Spain, Portugal and west coast of Africa) is a focus of a large variety of geodynamic processes. The meeting of three tectonic plates in the region (triple junction in Azores Islands) causes vulnerabilities and common scientific interest to all the countries in the area. Geodesy is the tool necessary for the monitoring of these effects.The RAEGE project, developed between the National Geographic Institute of Spain and the Azores Regional Government, is an example of the need of international geodetic collaboration in the area. RAEGE project aims at constructing, installing, and operating four Geodetic Core Sites, two in Spain (in Yebes and Gran Canaria) and two in Azores (in Flores and Santa Maria islands) for geodetic and geodynamic purposes. This project, together with research collaborations with the University of Alicante, opened a way for international cooperation between Spain and Portugal and showed the enriching and useful that these cooperation are. Here arise the idea of creating a new GGOS affiliate in the region, initially between Spain and Portugal. This group will be a forum for dialogue between organization and groups involved in geodesy, and it will impulse researchs in geodesy and it will settle a way of bringing geodesy closer to the society.The first steps for the proposal to the national geodetic authorities, advances and goals of the group will be presented in this contribution., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

RESUMEN Contextualización: La presente investigación se contextualiza en sistemas de producción campesina de la zona de ladera del municipio de Palmira- Valle del Cauca, caracterizados por presentar pequeñas áreas productivas con especies vegetales perennes, de ciclo corto y sistemas pecuarios con especies menores. Estos sistemas son de gran importancia para la seguridad alimentaria de la población por su diversa oferta en el mercado de la región. Vacío de conocimiento: Los sistemas campesinos son altamente vulnerables ante diversos factores externos como la fluctuación del mercado y la variabilidad climática que los colocan en riesgo. La presente investigación se basó en la siguiente pregunta: ¿qué tan sustentables son los sistemas agropecuarios campesinos de zona de ladera del Municipio de Palmira Valle del Cauca? Propósito: Evaluar la sustentabilidad agropecuaria de sistemas campesinos del corregimiento Ayacucho, municipio de Palmira- Valle del Cauca. Metodología: Se cuantificaron algunos atributos de trece sistemas campesinos priorizados, empleando el Marco de Evaluación de Sistemas de Manejo de recursos naturales incorporando Indicadores de Sostenibilidad- MESMIS. Los datos obtenidos a partir de encuesta y visitas en campo se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva y multivariada de componentes principales empleando el paquete estadístico R Studio versión 3.0.1. Los atributos productividad, adaptabilidad, estabilidad, confiabilidad y resiliencia, equidad y autogestión, se graficaron mediante diagrama tipo radar, con un rango evaluativo de 0-100%. Los indicadores por atributo se graficaron como eigenvectores para los dos primeros componentes principales, estableciendo su grado de similitud mediante la varianza acumulada. Resultados y conclusiones: El atributo estabilidad registró el valor más alto con 75.15%, indicando fortalezas en tenencia de la tierra y oferta hídrica de la zona para la producción agropecuaria. Los atributos adaptabilidad y autogestión registraron los valores más bajos con 44.90% y 46.15% respectivamente, indicando debilidades como la alta dependencia de insumos externos, desconocimiento técnico para la integración de los componentes animal y vegetal, así como bajo nivel de asociatividad. Los resultados obtenidos a partir de la evaluación MESMIS permitieron valorar de manera holística los sistemas campesinos de la vereda Arenillo- Palmira, identificando los aspectos críticos para establecer oportunidades de mejora con miras de alcanzar la sustentabilidad.

The criteria for the selection of COVID-19 patients that could benefit most from ECMO organ support are yet to be defined. In this study, we evaluated the predictive performance of ECMO mortality predictive models in patients with COVID-19. We also performed a cost-benefit analysis depending on the mortality predicted probability. We conducted a retrospective cohort study in COVID-19 patients who received ECMO at two tertiary care hospitals between March 2020 to July 2021. We evaluated the discrimination (C-statistic), calibration (Cox calibration), and accuracy of the prediction of death due to severe ARDS in V-V ECMO score (PRESERVE), the Respiratory Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Survival Score (RESP) score, and the PREdiction of Survival on ECMO Therapy-Score (PRESET) score. In addition, we compared the RESP score with Plateau pressure instead of Peak pressure. We included a total of 36 patients, 29 (80%) of them male and with a median (IQR) APACHE of 10 (8-15). The PRESET score had the highest discrimination (AUROCs 0.81 [95%CI 0.67 - 0.94]) and calibration (calibration-in-the-large 0.5 [95%CI -1.4 - 0.3]; calibration slope 2.2 [95%CI 0.7 / 3.7]). The RESP score with Plateau pressure had higher discrimination than the conventional RESP score. The cost per QALY in the USA, adjusted to life expectancy, was higher than USD 100,000 in patients older than 45 years with a PRESET10. The PRESET score had the highest predictive performance and could help in the selection of patients that benefit most from this resource-demanding and highly invasive organ support.

Background: The lateral sprain of the ankle is a very frequent injury in the population in general, appearing in the emergency services frequently. The general objective was to review the current clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) on management and treatment of ankle sprains, assess their quality, analyze the levels of evidence and summarize the grades of recommendation. Methods: A systematic search of the literature in relevant databases with the search terms “ankle,” “sprain,” “practice guideline,” and “guideline” was carried out. There were included those guidelines that had the system of grades of recommendation and level of evidence concerning to management and treatment of ankle sprain. The quality of the guides was assessed using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation II (AGREE II) tool. Results: Seven clinical practice guides were included in this review. The AGREE II scores ranged from 42% to 100%, with only six CPGs explicitly declaring the use of a systematic methodology. Seventeen recommendations were extracted and summarized. Discussion: Six of the recommendations analyzed present enough evidence to be applied in clinical practice and are highly recommended for ankle sprain management: Ottawa rules, manual therapy, cryotherapy, functional supports, early ambulation, short term NSAIDs and rehabilitation.
