The Japanese language used in fictional work differs from the standard Japanese language. This language variety, which highlights the stereotypical qualities of a character, is called yakuwarigo or role language. Among the many types of role language, aruyo kotoba highlights the characteristics of a Japanese-speaking Chinese character. This study aims to describe the types and meaning of illocutionary act on aruyo kotoba utterances using the pragmatic theory. The source of the data is a manga titled Ranma 1/2 by Takahashi Rumiko which was first published in 1987. The research is conducted using note-see method for the data collection. Then, the theory of Koizumi (1993) is used to classify the data according to its illocutionary speech act types based on the context of the utterances. The result shows that there are 27 data of illocutionary act on aruyo kotoba in the manga of Ranma 1/2 with the aru and yoroshi ending in sentences, namely 4 data of assertive illocutionary act, 7 data of expressive illocutionary act, 2 data of comissive illocutionary act, and 14 data of directive illocutionary act. The meaning contained in the illocutionary acts are tell, emphasize, insult, complain, getting mad, compliment, insinuate, command, and request.

For Japanese language learners who come from non-Kanji countries, kanji is one of the most difficult parts of learning Japanese. Regarding the difficulties in learning kanji, in this discussion will be studied about the difficulties in learning kanji and strategies that can minimize the difficulties in learning kanji. To examine this subject, the method used is a qualitative descriptive method. From the results of the discussion, it can be concluded that to minimize difficulties in learning kanji, the strategy that can be done is to make references that can help students understand each part of kanji, and encourage students to practice writing kanji repeatedly.

This paper focuses on the study and teaching strategy of Japanese conversation. The goal of the paper is to analyze the motivation of the students learning experience through CM as a media source of the study, which can lead students to enhance their level of proficiency. The study used a qualitative method of the case study Japanese conversation lecture. Conversation lectures are usually done by memorizing text or role-play using existing text. The idea of this study is similar to role-play but, through CM students can learn pronunciation, articulation, and intonation from the native (actor) directly. This study represents the first stage of a research project aimed at raising student confidence and enhancing Japanese fluencies. The major finding was that a clear majority of students reported a considerably high motivation according to the use of terms ‘tanoshikatta’ and ‘omoshiroi’ on their feedback. It says that students were interested to do the assessment.

The phenomenon of language is found mainly in Indonesian language and Sundanese language, one of which is the passive verbs; especially when the verb experiences the process of forming derivative words, either through affixation, reduplication, and compounding. Hopper and Thomson (1980) explain the relationship of transitivity and diathesis in the grammatical structure of verbs, especially in the field of study of affectedness of object; transitivity is divided into two types; (1) structural transitivity related to the predicate and two main arguments; and (2) traditional transitivity related to all elements in a clause transferring the action from agent to patient. This research aims to describe the transitivity level of Indonesian language by doing contrastive research with Sundanese language, based in the theory of Hopper and Thompson (1980) which focuses on the middle construction. The Sundanese language data is taken from sample sentences in Mangle Magazine (Edition 2018-2019), the drama script "Lalakon", and book “Kajian Bentuk dan Makna Konseptual Preposisi Bahasa Sunda”(Sobarna, C. dan Santy, 2019). The research results show there is a close relationship between Sundanese language passive sentence structures with prefixes ka-, ti-, with the infix -ar- and Indonesian language sentence structures with verbs prefixed ter-, also and Indonesian language verbs cannot be separated from the actions/activities of the actors, whether it is realized or not. Abstrak Fenomena kebahasaan banyak ditemukan dalam bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Sunda, salah satunya adalah bahasan verba pasif, terutama pada saat verba tersebut mengalami pembentukan kata turunan baik melalui proses afiksasi, reduplikasi maupun pemajemukan. Hopper dan Thompson (1980) menjelaskan hubungan transitivitas dan diatesis pada struktur gramatikal verba, khususnya pada bidang kajian affectedness of object yang mengklasifikasikan ketransitifan ke dalam dua jenis: (1) ketransitifan struktural yang berhubungan dengan predikat dan dua buah argumen inti; (2) Ketransitifan tradisional yang berhubungan dengan semua unsur di dalam sebuah klausa pemindahan tindakan dari agen ke pasien (Hopper & Thompson, 1980). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan tingkat transitivitas bahasa Indonesia dengan melakukan penelitian kontrastif dengan bahasa Sunda, berdasarkan teori Hopper dan Thompson (1980) yang memfokuskan kajian pada konstruksi tengah. Data bahasa Sunda diambil dari contoh kalimat yang ada dalam Majalah Mangle (Edisi 2018-2019), naskah drama “Lalakon”, dan buku “Kajian Bentuk dan Makna Konseptual Preposisi Bahasa Sunda” (Sobarna, C. dan Santy, 2019). Hasil pembahasan konstruksi tengah (middle construction), terlihat bahwa adanya keterkaitan erat antara struktur kalimat pasif bahasa Sunda yang berprefiks ka-,ti-, berinfiks -ar- dan struktur kalimat bahasa Indonesia yang memiliki verba berprefiks ter-., serta verba bahasa Indonesia tidak terlepas pada perbuatan/aktivitas pelaku apakah itu disadari atau tidak disadari.

This research aims to analyze the modalities contained in the Al-Mulk, using the Pragmatics Leech and Searle in Rahardi (2003) and Alwi (1992) approaches, as well as descriptive analytical methods. Leech proposed four types of illocutionary related to social goals and maintenance of linguistic behavior, while Searle revealed five illocutionaries based on the criteria. The results of the study found that in Al Mulk's there is a modalitay that refers to what was stated by Leech and Searle, that is convivial behavior in expressive illocutionary of praising propositions, and commissive illocutionary in the offers proposition. Furthermore, conflictive behavior on expressive illocutionary is found in the form of threatening propositions. Next, competitive behavior in expressive illocution is found in the form of warning propositions. On the other hand, competitive behavior also exists in the directive illocutionary in the form of an ordered proposition, then the begging proposition. Collaborative behavior in directive teaching illocutionary is also found.
