It is essential to solve nonlinear equations in engineering, where accuracy and precision are critical. In this paper, a novel family of iterative methods for finding the simple roots of nonlinear equations based on multiplicative calculus is introduced. Based on theoretical research, a novel family of simple root-finding schemes based on multiplicative calculus has been devised, with a convergence order of seven. The symmetry in the pie graph of the convergence–divergence areas demonstrates that the method is stable and consistent when dealing with nonlinear engineering problems. An extensive examination of the numerical results of the engineering applications is presented in order to assess the effectiveness, stability, and consistency of the recently established method in comparison to current methods. The analysis includes the total number of functions and derivative evaluations per iteration, elapsed time, residual errors, local computational order of convergence, and error graphs, which demonstrate our method's better convergence behavior when compared to other approaches. Resurgence is defined as an increase in a previously extinguished target response (B1) resulting from the worsening of conditions for a more recently reinforced alternative response (B2). Worsening includes extinction or reductions in rate, amount, and immediacy of delivery of food or some other phylogenetically important event (PIE). In the first part of the article, we apply the laws of allocation, induction, and covariance to understand not only resurgence of operant activity previously covarying with the PIE (B1) but also a constellation of ontogenetic and phylogenetic activities both related to the PIE (B0) and unrelated to the PIE (BN). In the second part, we discuss how induction might be incorporated into and provide alternative processes within an existing matching‐based framework, resurgence as choice (RaC). We begin to identify how this range of activities could depend on changes in the relative competitive weight (V) of all available activities (B1, B2, B0, BN) in addition to only those receiving explicit training (B1, B2). Tax collection with limited enforcement capacity may be consistent with both high- and low-delinquency regimes: high delinquency reduces the effectiveness of threats, thereby reinforcing high delinquency. We explore the practical challenges of unraveling the high-delinquency equilibrium using a mechanism design insight known as divide-and-conquer. Our preferred mechanism takes the form of prioritized iterative enforcement (PIE). Taxpayers are ranked using the ratio of expected collection to capacity use. Collection threats are issued in small batches to ensure high credibility and induce high compliance. Following repayments, liberated capacity is used to issue the next round of threats. In collaboration with a district of Lima, we experimentally assess PIE in a sample of 13,432 property taxpayers. The data validate and refine our theoretical framework. A semi-structural model suggests that keeping collection actions fixed, PIE would increase tax revenue by roughly 10%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we derive Lat. rīdeō 'to laugh' from an iterative-intensive verb *wreyd-eh1- 'keep scratching' > 'laugh' (Lat. rīdeō), from a PIE root *wreyd- 'scratch', which is also reflected in PGerm. *wrītanan 'scratch' (OE wrītan 'draw, outline, score', OFris. wrīta 'write', OS wrītan 'tear, scratch', OHG rīzan 'tear, draw', OIc. rīta 'score, write'). This article aims to demonstrate that the Italic subjunctives in -ā- (Latin fer-ā-s etc.) are regular descendants of Proto-Indo-European thematic optatives in *-oih1-. Each stage in the proposed development of PIE *oiH̯ C > Proto-Italic *āC (with *C = any consonant, perhaps with the exception of *n) is either directly supported by additional evidence or at least not falsified by the data. In particular, one must assume that a) the laryngeal in a sequence *oih1C was not lost, but instead regularly vocalized (*oih̯ ̥ 1C > *oia̯ C); that b) the intervocalic glide was lost (*oia̯ C > *oaC); and that c) the resulting sequence *oaC did not contract to *ōC, as is usually assumed, but to āC instead. If correct, we may reckon with a new sound law relevant for Italic, namely PIE *oiHC > Proto-Italic *āC. The sound change resulted in forms with ā-vocalism in several paradigmatic slots in the paradigm of the thematic optative (2nd and 3rd singular as well as 2nd plural, and probably also the 1st plural), and paradigmatic leveling/analogy subsequently generalized -ā- as a new modal marker. Handbook treatments of Latin historical phonology do not discuss the fate of the consonant clusters *lh and *rh (or, rather, Proto-Italic *lɣ, *rɣ) that would reflect Indo-European *-lgh- and *-rgh-. Indeed, no secure examples of such reflexes have been identified thus far. In this paper I argue that *-lgh- > *-lɣ- was assimilated to Latin -ll-, adducing two plausible examples (follis 'skin bag' < PIE *bholǵh-i-, vellō 'to tear out, pluck' < PIE *u̯elǵh-e/o-) and a possible example (fel fellis 'gall bladder'). In addition, I suggest that the demonstrative pronoun ille may reflect *ol- plus the pronominal stem *ho- that underlies hic. In an excursus, Greek λάχνη 'down, fluff' and (ἀμφι)λαχαίνω 'to weed' are also derived from the PIE root *u̯elǵh- underlying vellō. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study the design of negotiation strategies when a principal and agent must decide how to split a pie while the agent's outside option changes over time. The principal's optimal strategy under commitment demonstrates a new, but intuitive, set of negotiation dynamics. When the agent is tempted to leave, the principal gradually promises a larger share (decreasing demands) and more time to explore the outside option (decreasing pressure), illustrating a complementarity between these two tools. In this paper, we propose a physics-inspired contrastive learning paradigm for low-light enhancement, called PIE. PIE primarily addresses three issues: (i) To resolve the problem of existing learning-based methods often training a LLE model with strict pixel-correspondence image pairs, we eliminate the need for pixel-correspondence paired training data and instead train with unpaired images. (ii) To address the disregard for negative samples and the inadequacy of their generation in existing methods, we incorporate physics-inspired contrastive learning for LLE and design the Bag of Curves (BoC) method to generate more reasonable negative samples that closely adhere to the underlying physical imaging principle. (iii) To overcome the reliance on semantic ground truths in existing methods, we propose an unsupervised regional segmentation module, ensuring regional brightness consistency while eliminating the dependency on semantic ground truths. Overall, the proposed PIE can effectively learn from unpaired positive/negative samples and smoothly realize non-semantic regional enhancement, which is clearly different from existing LLE efforts. Besides the novel architecture of PIE, we explore the gain of PIE on downstream tasks such as semantic segmentation and face detection. Training on readily available open data and extensive experiments demonstrate that our method surpasses the state-of-the-art LLE models over six independent cross-scenes datasets. Introduction Methods Results Conclusion Preliminary image evaluation (PIE) is a system where radiographers alert emergency department referrers to the presence or absence of abnormalities on acute extremity X‐ray examinations. PIE and similar systems have been utilised in the United Kingdom (UK) and Australia due to a shortage of radiologists to provide a timely report. As New Zealand (NZ) faces a similar shortage, PIE should be considered to address the negative impact this has on patients. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of regular feedback and education on radiographers' performance when detecting and describing acute abnormalities on extremity X‐ray examinations in ED.A prospective longitudinal study design was utilised for this study. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and accuracy of PIEs performed by seven radiographers at a public provincial district in NZ were assessed over a 6‐month period, with the participants provided monthly results along with regular e‐mailed feedback on common errors.The mean for sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy calculated with a 95% confidence interval over the 6‐month period were 92.8% (89.9, 95.8), 94.9 (93.1, 96.8), and 94.2 (91.9, 96.5), respectively. When the month‐to‐month results were analysed, the results demonstrated an improvement in participants' sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy over the 6‐month period.The results of this study demonstrated that radiographers who participated in the study can perform PIE to a high standard that is comparable with the findings from international studies and demonstrated an improvement over 6 months. This article provides information on post-pulmonary embolism syndrome (post-PE), chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease (CTEPH), and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). It explains that post-PE refers to patients who continue to experience breathing difficulties and decreased quality of life despite receiving treatment. CTEPH is a condition where patients have persistent difficulty breathing without blood clots in the pulmonary arteries, while CTEPH is the most severe form characterized by permanent obstructions and high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. The article discusses the prevalence, risk factors, and diagnostic tests for these conditions, as well as treatment options such as anticoagulants, surgery, endovascular therapy, and medication. Introduction Methods Results Conclusion Despite a demonstrated high accuracy and reported successful implementations, radiographer preliminary image evaluation (PIE) has been slow and infrequent in its rollout across Australia. A key barrier reported to hamper radiographer PIE service implementation is lack of adequate time to review radiographs and provide an accurate interpretation. This study sought to conduct a correlational analysis between radiographer imaging workload and PIE service accuracy.A total of 45,373 exams and 1152 PIE comments evenly distributed each month from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, were reviewed. PIE comments were assessed for consistency with the radiologist's report. The imaging workload (average exams completed per hour) was separated into three, eight‐hour ‘shifts’ based on time of imaging. Correlational analysis was performed using linear regression models and assessed for normality using the Shapiro‐Wilks test.The study reported no significant linear association between increasing average workload and reduced service accuracy (P = 0.136). It was however noted that when the average workload increased beyond 7 exams/hour, average service accuracy for PIE was always below 85%.This study has demonstrated that, although perceived, there is no statistically significant correlation between x‐ray imaging workload and radiographer PIE service accuracy. Snack foods have experienced substantial growth in consumption globally, appealing to various age groups and becoming a significant segment of the food industry. The current investigation aimed to assess the nutritional, antioxidant, and sensory characteristics of an unconventional pie prepared from brown wheat flour(BWF), carob bean flour (CBF), onion, scallions, and roasted seaweeds. Chemical composition, minerals content, functional properties, total phenolics, total flavonoids, and antioxidants activity (DPPH), and phenolic profile of CBF, BWF, and binary combinations were evaluated. Five pies using different formulas (CGR0, CGR1, CGR2, CGR3, CGR4, and CGR5) were developed, where CGR0 serving as the control sample with 100% BWF. The other formulations (CGR1–CGR5) are binary combinations of BWF and CBF at various ratios (90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40, and 50:50%). The onion pie samples were assayed for proximate composition, minerals, and sensory properties. CBF is rich in dietary fibers, with a content of 12.73%, substantial ash (4.79%), and carbohydrates (74.36%). Blending BWF with CBF significantly enhances the functional properties of the mixture, as indicated by improved WAC, AOC, EA, and FC compared to BWF. The addition of CBF into BWF in produced pie recipes led to significant increases in Fat, fiber, and ash. Additionally, substituting BWF with CBF in pie samples led to substantial decreases in carbohydrate content. The highest content of micro- and macro-elements was found in CGR5 samples, whereas the lowest was found in control samples CGR0. The results found that incorporating CBF into onion pie samples at levels between 10% to 40% can positively impact the sensory acceptability of the produced pie samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The study aims to demonstrate the utility of modeling compositional volatility in substantive domains beyond budgeting. Methods: We show how to model compositional volatility on its own or as a part of a system of equations in which the component parts of the compositional outcome variable are also modeled. Results: Using data on the volatility of support for German political parties, we demonstrate the usefulness of stand‐alone models of compositional volatility. Using data on the volatility of income shares in the United States, we demonstrate the usefulness of modeling volatility together with compositional components. Saturated and trans fat intake have been linked to an increased risk of developing diseases such as cardiovascular and coronary heart disease, obesity, and myocardial infarction. As a result of the actions and regulations proposed to reduce and eliminate the content of saturated and trans fats, it is necessary to develop and implement new structuring technologies, such as oleogelation. Oleogelation is a promising strategy for structuring liquid oil, that allows the incorporation of vegetable oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids into food matrix and which can provide the functionality of solid fats and improved nutritional characteristics. The partial or total replacement of conventional fats with oleogels in pastry products is of great interest due to their larger consumption. In this research paper, the puff (jam-filled puff pastry) and tender pastries (bow tie cookies, cheese crackers, apple pie, and cookies) have been reformulated by totally replacing of conventional fats with oleogel and the structural behavior in the dynamics of the technological process was evaluated. The textural properties of oleogel were comparable to those of some conventional fats, but frequency sweep measurements showed that the oleogel formulated with refined sunflower oil and carnauba wax (10% w/w) had the highest storage modulus G' and loss modulus G" values when compared to conventional fats (commercial margarine, butter, a mixture of 73% margarine and 27% lard, and puff pastry margarine). The textural properties of oleogel (2.34 N and 2.30 mJ) were significantly different from those of puff pastry margarine (9.78 N and 21.73 mJ), but compared to other conventional fats, the values of hardness (1.42–2.70 N) and adhesiveness (4.40–5.17 mJ) were similar. For conventional and oleogel doughs the storage modulus (Gʹ) were higher than loss modulus (G″) and both increased with the applied frequency (Hz). In terms of the products textural profile, the prototypes formed with oleogel exhibited lower hardness values (2.37–15.64 N) than the conventional products (8.83–19.89 N), indicating the tenderizing effect produced by the oleogel. The fat losses determined during 14 days of storage showed a lower physical stability of the doughs and products formulated with oleogel, most probably due to the destabilization kinetics of the lipid system during the operations of the technological process. In recent years, photothermal interface water evaporation technology has shown great application prospects due to its advantages of sustainability and high efficiency. With the rapid development of this frontier field, a variety of photothermal materials have been developed and widely explored. Among them, polyphenol-based photothermal materials are drawing great attention in the development of high-performance interface evaporators with their advantages of being green, economical, versatile, and scalable, leading the next hotspot and frontier. Therefore there is an urgent need to update the wider scientific community on recent advances in this field. In this review, three distinct functions of polyphenols including adhesion, secondary reactivity and photothermal properties are first discussed, since these functions are vital for designing photothermal interface evaporation systems (PIES). Furthermore, structure–activity relationships and the unique advantages of polyphenols in constructing PIES are emphasized in this part. Subsequently, according to the main functions of polyphenols in PIES, the roles of polyphenols are introduced and categorized into four application forms: (a) as intermediate layers to introduce photothermal materials; (b) realizing hydrophilic modification in PIES; (c) as photothermal materials without substrates in PIES; (d) as photothermal coatings. Then some representative applications of polyphenols such as achieving confinement capillarity, designing complex 3D evaporators, and constructing multifunctional PIES are highlighted, which can further exhibit the distinct advantages of green polyphenol-based photothermal materials in improving the water evaporation performance. A new method for synthesis of metal polyhydrides via high‐pressure thermal decomposition of corresponding amidoboranes in diamond anvil cells is proposed. Within this approach, molecular semiconducting cesium (P4/nmm‐CsH7, P1‐CsH15+x) and rubidium (RbH9‐x) polyhydrides with a very high hydrogen content reaching 93 at.% are synthesized. Preservation of CsH7 at near ambient conditions, confirmed both experimentally and theoretically, represents a significant advance in the stabilization of hydrogen‐rich compounds. In addition, two crystalline modifications of RbH9‐x with pseudohexagonal and pseudotetragonal structures identified by synchrotron X‐ray diffraction, and Raman measurements are synthesized. Both phases are stable at 8–10 GPa. This is an unprecedentedly low stabilization pressure for polyhydrides. PET/PA6, hollow, segmented-pie, microfiber nonwovens (PET/PA6 HSMNs) play an important role in a microfiber, synthetic leather base. Most of the current PET/PA6 HSMNs generally lack in hygiene performance. Moreover, there is an urgent need for the asymmetric wettability of PET/PA6 HSMNs to ensure the comfort of clothing. In this work, a novel, asymmetrically wettable, PET/PA6 HSMN with a gradient structure is proposed, which can regulate liquid adsorption and directional transport. An MOF-303 was successfully synthesized and loaded onto the PET/PA6 HSMN, which had been pre-treated with gradient hydrolysis under sulfuric acid. The droplet quickly permeated the modified PET/PA6 HSMN, and the droplet disappearance time decreased to 62.40 ms. The liquid strikethrough time of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN reached 5.16 s. The maximum adsorption capacity of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN was 68.161 mg/g, which was improved by 122.83%. In addition, the air permeability of the pre-treated PET/PA6 HSMN increased from 308.70 mm/s to 469.97 mm/s, with the sulfuric acid concentrations increasing from 0% to 20%, and the air permeability of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN decreased gradually from 247.37 mm/s to 161.50 mm/s. Furthermore, the tensile strength of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN treated with sulfuric acid and MOF-303 was also obviously enhanced compared with the PET/PA6 HSMN treated with pure sulfuric acid. This PET/PA6 HSMN, with asymmetric wettability, owing to its high hygiene performance and water transport capabilities, is promising and able to extend the application of a microfiber synthetic leather base for clothing. In developing countries, particularly in Africa, dependence on natural resources poses a threat to development, leading to poor health, reduced productivity, and increased poverty among nations. This raises significant concerns for the prospects and welfare of Africa, given the rising environmental pollution. However, the literature on the mitigating effect of policies and institutions for environmental sustainability (PIES) on resource‐dependent countries in Africa is scarce. As a result, this study explores the effects of natural resource dependence and the mediating effect of PIES on under‐five mortality and human development in Africa. This novel hypothesis may contribute to the divergent differences in African welfare. Using a panel of 30 resource‐dependent countries spanning 2005 to 2021 and employing the two‐step dynamic generalized method of moments, the study provides evidence in support of the novel hypothesis. The findings show that dependence on natural resources can be either a blessing or a curse for African countries, depending on the degree to which environmental sustainability is embraced. Furthermore, a heterogeneous analysis demonstrates significant support for countries with high policies and institutions for environmental sustainability in mitigating the negative impacts of natural resource dependence on welfare. The study concludes that dependence on natural resources without environmental sustainability cannot guarantee a balance between the well‐being of the economy and the environment. Considering the problem of time scale differences among subsystems in the integrated energy system of a park, as well as the increasing complexity of the system structure and number of control variables, there may be a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) "curse of dimensionality" problem, which hinders the further improvement of economic benefits and energy utilization efficiency of park-level integrated energy systems (PIES). This article proposes a reinforcement learning optimization algorithm for comprehensive energy PPO (Proximal Policy Optimization) in industrial parks considering multiple time scales for energy management. First, PIES are divided into upper and lower layers, the first containing power and thermal systems, and the second containing gas systems. The upper and lower layers of energy management models are built based on the PPO; then, both layers formulate the energy management schemes of the power, thermal, and gas systems in a long (30 min) and short time scale (6 min). Through confirmatory and comparative experiments, it is shown that the proposed method can not only effectively overcome the curse of dimensionality in DRL algorithms during training but can also develop different energy system management plans for PIES on a differentiated time scale, improving the overall economic benefits of the system and reducing carbon emissions. Sugar content is an essential indicator for evaluating crisp pear quality and categorization, being used for fruit quality identification and market sales prediction. In this study, we paired a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm with genetic algorithm optimization to reliably estimate the sugar content in crisp pears. We evaluated the spectral data and actual sugar content in crisp pears, then applied three preprocessing methods to the spectral data: standard normal variable transformation (SNV), multivariate scattering correction (MSC), and convolution smoothing (SG). Support vector regression (SVR) models were built using processing approaches. According to the findings, the SVM model preprocessed with convolution smoothing (SG) was the most accurate, with a correlation coefficient 0.0742 higher than that of the raw spectral data. Based on this finding, we used competitive adaptive reweighting (CARS) and the continuous projection algorithm (SPA) to select key representative wavelengths from the spectral data. Finally, we used the retrieved characteristic wavelength data to create a support vector machine model (GASVR) that was genetically tuned. The correlation coefficient of the SG–GASVR model in the prediction set was higher by 0.0321 and the root mean square prediction error (RMSEP) was lower by 0.0267 compared with those of the SG–SVR model. The SG–CARS–GASVR model had the highest correlation coefficient, at 0.8992. In conclusion, the developed SG–CARS–GASVR model provides a reliable method for detecting the sugar content in crisp pear using hyperspectral technology, thereby increasing the accuracy and efficiency of the quality assessment of crisp pear. Purpose: Paramedics are responsible for managing emergencies, caring for patients and performing life-saving procedures under heavy workloads, which can have a significant negative effect on their emotional eating and food addiction (FA) behaviors. Thus, this cross-sectional study aims to shed light on the relationship between emotional eating tendencies and FA in paramedics by considering their food preferences, sex, and body mass index (BMI) factors. Design/methodology/approach: The questionnaire consisted of Yale Food Addiction Scale and Emotional Eating Questionnaire (EEQ), as well as sex, age, weight, height and number of snacks and main meals collected face-to-face from the 196 paramedics. Findings: The FA prevalence was 14.9%, and more than half of the paramedics were emotional eaters. The total score of the EEQ was significantly higher in the FA diagnosed group than in the group FA not diagnosed (p < 0.001). The food preferences of the paramedics were found to differ significantly depending on whether they were diagnosed with FA or emotional eating. Being a food addict or emotional eater significantly increases the odds of consuming chocolate-wafer, pie-cake, chips, pastries, pasta and fries (p < 0.05), and participants with FA diagnosis and emotional eaters were more likely to prefer these foods than those with nondiagnosis and nonemotional eaters (p < 0.05). We introduce loss aversion in an infinite‐horizon, alternating‐offers model. When outside options serve as reference points, the equilibrium of our model follows that of the standard Rubinstein bargaining model (i.e., outside options do not affect the equilibrium unless they are binding). However, when reference points are given by the resources that players contribute to the pie, the bargaining outcome changes such that a player's share increases in her contribution. We test our model's predictions in the laboratory. As predicted, only binding outside options affect the division of the pie. Data also show that contributions matter for bargaining outcomes when they are activated as reference points, but not quite as predicted by our theory. Proposers gain a higher share of the pie only when they have contributed a higher share than the opponent has. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
