The Crucifixion of St. Peter, commissioned by Pietro Aldobrandini for the church dedicated to St. Paul in the Tre Fontaneabbey(and today in the Vatican Pinacoteca),was the work with which Guido Reni established himself in Rome. The comparison with Caravaggio was immediately evident to the Roman public, that is to a wider circle than that of just the intendenti, not only for the unequivocal stylistic turn of Guido, but also and above all because the subject was the same as the Crucifixion of St. Peter of Santa Maria del Popolo, one of the more recent and more problematic paintings by Caravaggio; moreover, it was a subject that had been discussed for some time, and would always remain so, from an iconographic point of view. Guido found himself faced with a very stimulating task, and the response of his contemporaries, from Ribera to Guercino, up to Mattia Preti, shows how the painting was immediately judged a capital work, the manifesto of an art that attempted to reconcile naturalism with completely different instances, also recovering solutions from the painting of late Roman Mannerism.

Introduction Bone loss is a common feature in several autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Indeed, the high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines seem to enhance bone resorption and to diminish bone formation, thus producing an uncoupling between osteoclast and osteoblast function and favoring the onset of juxtarticular as well as systemic osteoporosis. Many papers underline the high prevalence of osteoporosis in RA, as well as the negative correlation between interleukin 6 (IL-6) serum levels and bone mineral density (BMD). The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of one-year treatment with tocilizumab (TCZ), the first approved IL-6 receptor inhibitor, in reducing bone loss in RA. Material and methods We enrolled 18 patients fulfilling 2010 ACR and EULAR criteria for RA from our arthritis outpatient clinic, assessing clinical and biochemical parameters during a 12-month period. The patients received TCZ 8 mg/kg i.v. every 4 weeks and underwent dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for the measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) at baseline and at the end of study. Serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocytes sedimentation rate (ESR), IL-6, serum CrossLaps, osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ ligand (RANK-L) and dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) were measured at baseline, at 6 months and 1 year. Results No significant difference in IL-6, RANK-L, DKK-1, OPG and serum CrossLaps levels between baseline, 6 months and 1 year were found. A significant increase of lumbar spine BMD was evidenced after 1 year of TCZ treatment. No difference in total body and femoral neck BMD was documented the end of the study. Conclusions This study suggest the bone-sparing effect of TCZ in RA affected individuals.

High affordance stimuli are associated with an enhancement in the activation of the corresponding motor programs.Such over-activation of motor programs may imply a decrease in performances based on inhibitory control. However, recentdata suggest that high affordance stimuli are associated with a widespread privileged neural activation that goes beyond motorrepresentations. In this case, we can expect that high affordance objects will be associated to a higher level of flexibility inan oddball task with Go-NoGo procedure. By measuring ERPs, we observed that, in the case of high affordance objects,the amplitude of the N200 is decreased when the inhibition of the motor response is more difficult. Data suggests that highaffordance objects facilitate inhibitory control, probably due to a higher activation of automatic attentional resources.

Cognitive factors can mediate the tendency to create falsememory. We explored the role of the two systems ofreasoning in the production of false memories. Suchdifference can be assessed through the Cognitive ReflectionTest (CRT), a measure of the propensity to reflect rather thanproducing an intuitive response. By the use of a DRM-likeparadigm in a prose recognition memory task, we measuredCRT-related individual differences in producing falsememories. We observed that intuitive thinkers are more likelyto produce false memories.

Abstract Background and Objective Clodronate is a nitrogen-free bisphosphonate that is widely and effectively used in the treatment of many osteo-metabolic disorders. The objective of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of clodronate in reducing pain and bone marrow edema in knee osteoarthritis. Methods In total, 74 patients were included in the study. Group 1 received intramuscular clodronate 200 mg daily for 15 days and then once weekly for the next 11.5 months; group 2 received intramuscular clodronate 200 mg daily for 15 days and then once weekly for the next 2.5 months. Visual analog scale (VAS) scores were recorded at baseline (T0) and after 30 days (T1), 3 months (T2), 6 months (T3), 9 months (T4), and 12 months (end of study; T5). We also evaluated functional status and use of paracetamol (T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5) and changes in Whole Organ Magnetic Resonance Imaging Score (WORMS; T0, T2, and T5). Results Both groups had a statistically significant reduction in VAS score until 3 months. Group 1 then experienced further VAS reductions, whereas VAS scores for group 2 progressively increased. Pain, stiffness, and physical function also showed the same trend, as did bone marrow edema extension, which was evaluated with WORMS. Conclusion Our study indicates that intramuscular administration of a therapeutic dose of clodronate followed by a maintenance dose is effective in the management of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, improving functional outcomes and reducing pain and bone marrow edema. Prolonged treatment increases the long-term efficacy of clodronate compared with the shorter schedule.

The consumption of phenol-rich foods is limited by their prominent bitterness and astringency. This issue has been addressed by adding sweet tastes, which suppress bitterness, but this is not a complete solution since individuals also differ in their preference for sweetness. In this study, we aimed at identifying groups of consumers differing in sweetness optima and sensory-liking patterns. To this end, increasing concentrations of sucrose were added to a chocolate pudding base. This allowed us to (1) investigate if individual differences in sensory responses are associated with different sweet liking optima in a product context, (2) define the psychological and oro-sensory profile of sweet liker phenotypes derived using a product context, and (3) assess if individuals differing in sweet liking optima differ also in consumption and liking of phenol-rich foods and beverages as a function of their sensory properties (e.g., sweeter vs. more bitter and astringent products). Individuals (1208; 58.4% women, 18–69 years) were characterised for demographics, responsiveness to 6-n-propylthiouracil (PROP), personality traits and attitudes toward foods. Three clusters were identified based on correlations between sensory responses (sweetness, bitterness and astringency) and liking of the samples: liking was positively related to sweetness and negatively to bitterness and astringency in High and Moderate Sweet Likers, and the opposite in Inverted U-Shaped. Differences between clusters were found in age, gender and personality. Furthermore, the Inverted-U Shaped cluster was found to have overall healthier food behaviours and preferences, with higher liking and consumption of phenol-rich vegetables and beverages without added sugar. These findings point out the importance of identifying the individual sensory-liking patterns in order to develop more effective strategies to promote the acceptability of healthy phenol-rich foods.

El pasaje de Cochin representaría una de las demostraciones más significativas de la notoriedad del artista, pero la crítica moderna propende a no distinguir la diferente esencia del éxito de Giaquinto con respecto a lo de los varios Masucci, Mancini y Batoni, citados en la carta de Cochin: mientras que estos últimos habían triunfado definitivamente como pintores de historia al óleo, y podían trabajar para clientela internacional sin dejar Roma, Giaquinto nunca logró imponerse en aquella función. En la carta, de hecho, Cochin confundía y sobreponía Corrado a lo más célebre Sebastiano Conca. La llamada a Madrid fue un gran éxito por Giaquinto, pero la salida fue una elección obligada porque en veinticinco años que pasó en Roma, el pintor nunca obtuvo aquel reconocimiento a lo que ambicionaba.

Ongoing research has shown that emoji can be used by children to discriminate food products, but it is unclear if they express emotions and how they are linked to emotional words. Little is known about how children interpret emoji in terms of their emotional meaning in the context of food. This study aimed at investigating the emotional meaning of emoji used to describe food experiences in 9–13-year-old pre-adolescents and to measure related age and gender differences. The meaning of 46 emoji used to describe food experience was explored by: mapping emoji according to similarities and differences in their emotional meaning using the projective mapping technique, and linking emoji with emotion words using a check-all-that-apply (CATA) format. The two tasks gave consistent results and showed that emoji were discriminated along the valence (positive vs. negative) and power (dominant vs. submissive) dimension, and to a lower extent along the arousal dimension (high vs. low activation). In general, negative emoji had more distinct meanings than positive emoji in both studies, but differences in nuances of meaning were found also among positive emoji. Girls and older pre-adolescents (12–13 years old (y.o.)) discriminated positive emoji slightly better than boys and younger pre-adolescents (9–11 y.o.). This suggests that girls and older pre-adolescents may be higher in emotional granularity (the ability to experience and discriminate emotions), particularly of positive emotions. The results of the present work can be used for the development of an emoji-based tool to measure emotions elicited by foods in pre-adolescents.
