Educational escape rooms are beneficial for student learning as it relates to critical thinking, decision making under time constraints and practical exploration of real-life work scenarios. This type of learning experience is beneficial across many disciplines with emphasis for healthcare management due to the dynamic nature and common pressures of professional healthcare. The following paper contributes to existing literature by presenting an educational escape room designed as a pedagogical innovation for teaching healthcare management. Future research and future assessment directives are discussed.

Limited scholarly work has been conducted on the perceptions and experiences of industry professionals transitioning to full-time academic positions in US higher education institutions. Ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with former industry practitioners who transitioned to full-time academic roles to explore their motivations and challenges associated with the transition from industry to academia, as well as their desires to remain in higher education or return to the industry. Despite career-related challenges, participants valued collegial relationships and the direct impact on students, fostering a strong desire to remain in academia. They highlighted the need for improved leadership pertaining to preparation for academic careers, fair compensation, and enhanced training and mentoring support for working with students. This study provides valuable insights into the experiences of industry professionals in academia, emphasising the importance of comprehensive support and understanding in US higher education institutions. Teaching undergraduate health administration students about the impact of stigma and stereotypes on the patient care experience can take place with this hands-on, interactive lesson and corresponding assignment. This paper aims to outline an experiential learning exercise that utilizes a class lecture and discussion, class activity, and group assignment and presentation on the impacts of stigma and stereotypes on the patient care experience. The present study is a secondary analysis of publicly available data pertaining to 44 health administration faculty salaries within the University System of Georgia. Data analysis indicates that overall, mean salaries of entry-level health administration faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor have not kept pace with inflation and are below the median industry salary in health administration. Salaries of health administration faculty at the ranks of Associate Professor and Professor are more in line with current industry salaries and have kept pace with inflation. The study also looks at the breakdown of mean salaries for health administration faculty housed in different schools at different colleges and universities, specifically the School of Business, School of Health, and School of Public Health, and discusses whether it is financially feasible to leave to leave the industry for academia in the present environment. Although the Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees are classified as professional degrees and research degrees respectively, several institutions market the D.B.A. as a degree that prepares graduates for careers in higher education. The present study focuses on faculty in certain business disciplines within the 26 colleges and universities in the University System of Georgia. The analysis indicated that of the 368 full-time faculty in the selected business disciplines, 32 held D.B.A.s while 336 held Ph.D.s. Results indicated that while the D.B.A. is a viable degree for those wishing to have a career as higher education faculty, the Ph.D. is still considered the gold standard. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Management of human capital through the use of performance management systems and performance improvement plans is of the utmost importance to managers. Employees are the most valuable assets companies possess. Effective management of human capital can have a direct impact on individual and team performance, as well as the success of the business. This paper focuses on the use of the performance improvement plan and its impact on employee performance outside of the progressive disciplinary process. In this paper, we review the existing literature on human capital and performance improvement plans, and make managerial recommendations for the use of performance improvement plans going forward. The present study explores the ethicality, utility, and risk of using personal social media accounts to vet candidates in the employee recruitment process. This article details a class lecture and corresponding group activity. The student groups were required to perform a social media deep dive on two individuals viewed as job candidates. Special attention was paid to selection of the correct candidates and information that cannot legally be asked in a job interview. Of the seven student groups, five groups selected incorrect profiles for at least one candidate, while identifying reasons for concern or competitive advantage for each candidate. The present study explores the pervasive discrimination and gender inequities of female physicians in male-dominated medical specialties through the lens of enacted stigmatization and stigma consciousness. While existing literature on both of these topics is robust, there is a gap in the literature exploring the overlapping relationships of these factors. We seek to establish a theoretical foundation for these constructs as depicted by our model and two central propositions in which the relationships of stigmatization and stigma consciousness impact career choice based on gender.
