Abstract

The photon beam asymmetry of the C 12 (γ → , p 01) 11 B and C 12 (γ → , p 2 − 6) 11 B reactions has been measured in the energy range 40–65 MeV, using a tagged, linearly-polarized photon beam at the MAX-lab facility in Sweden. The asymmetry of the C 12 (γ → , p 01) 11 B reaction to ground and first excited state of B 11 is Σ ≈ 0.82 over the measured energy range. The main contribution to the C 12 (γ → , p 2 − 6) 11 B reaction to higher excited states comes from processes in which the residual nucleus is in the 3 / 2 − (5.02 MeV) or 7 / 2 − (6.74 MeV) excited states. The asymmetry of this reaction is Σ ≈ 0.6 , close to the value for free deuteron photodisintegration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Measurements of the linearly-polarized photon beam asymmetry Σ for photoproduction from the proton of η and η ′ mesons are reported. A linearly-polarized tagged photon beam produced by coherent bremsstrahlung was incident on a cryogenic hydrogen target within the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer. Results are presented for the γ p → η p reaction for incident photon energies from 1.070 to 1.876 GeV, and from 1.516 to 1.836 GeV for the γ p → η ′ p reaction. For γ p → η p , the data reported here considerably extend the range of measurements to higher energies, and are consistent with the few previously published measurements for this observable near threshold. For γ p → η ′ p , the results obtained are consistent with the few previously published measurements for this observable near threshold, but also greatly expand the incident photon energy coverage for that reaction. Initial analysis of the data reported here with the Bonn–Gatchina model strengthens the evidence for four nucleon resonances – the N ( 1895 ) 1 / 2 − , N ( 1900 ) 3 / 2 + , N ( 2100 ) 1 / 2 + and N ( 2120 ) 3 / 2 − resonances – which presently lack the “four-star” status in the current Particle Data Group compilation, providing examples of how these new measurements help refine models of the photoproduction process. Abstract

The cross section asymmetry of C 12 ( γ , p 01 ) B 11 and C 12 ( γ , p 2 − 6 ) B 11 reactions has been studied at the energy range 40–55 MeV, using linearly polarized tagged photons of the MAX-lab facility. The asymmetry of the C 12 ( γ , p 01 ) B 11 processes, which assume the one-body mechanism of the reaction, is Σ ≈ 0.82 ± 0.05 for photon energies 45–50 MeV. The asymmetry for the C 12 ( γ , p 2 − 6 ) B 11 reactions, which produce a maximum at excitation energy ∼ 6 MeV , is Σ ≈ 0.53 ± 0.13 for a photon energy 49 MeV. It is close to the asymmetry of reaction of the free deuteron photodisintegration, and can be resulted from the two-body mechanism of the photon absorption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Polarization observables, such as the beam asymmetry Σ, are vital to the study of the many N* and Δ resonances that decay to the pπ0 final state. Beam asymmetries in π0 photoproduction off the proton have been determined using the Crystal Barrel CsI(Tl) calorimeter at ELSA, University of Bonn in Germany, in the energy range Eγ = 920 to 1680 MeV by analyzing the neutral decay mode π0→γγ. In this experiment, the BaF2 spectrometer TAPS was placed in the forward direction increasing the solid angle coverage to nearly 4π and serving as a fast trigger. For the first time, these measurements include the most forward angles in θπ0c·m. Additionally, this analysis provides new data points in the energy range Eγ = 1510 to 1680 MeV where few measurements have previously been made. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

7. Precise measurement of <f>Σ</f> beam asymmetry for positive pion photoproduction on the proton from 800 to 1500 MeV

Abstract

The Σ beam asymmetry for positive pion photoproduction on the proton has been measured over an angular range of 40–170° at photon energies from 0.8 to 1.5 GeV. The resulting data set includes 237 accurate points, 136 of these belonging to an almost unexplored domain above 1.05 GeV. Data of such high precision provide severe constraints for partial wave analyses. The influence of this experiment on the GW multipole analysis is demonstrated. Significant changes are found in multipoles connected to the S31(1620) and P13(1720) resonances. Comparisons using the MAID analysis are also presented. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

8. Differential cross section measurement of <f>η</f> photoproduction on the proton from threshold to 1100 MeV

Abstract

The differential cross section for the reaction p(γ,ηp) has been measured from threshold to 1100 MeV photon laboratory energy. For the first time, the region of the S11(1535) resonance is fully covered in a photoproduction experiment and will allow a precise extraction of its parameters at the photon point. These high precision data together with the already measured beam asymmetry data will provide stringent constraints on the extraction of new couplings of baryon resonances to the η meson. Abstract

The photoproduction of double π 0 on the neutron is studied in the beam energy range of 0.6 up to 1.5 GeV, using a liquid deuterium target. The cross section and the beam asymmetry are extracted and compared to those previously obtained on a proton target. The theoretical interpretation of these results is given using different models.

Abstract

The differential cross section for the reaction p(gamma, eta p) has been measured from threshold to 1100 MeV photon laboratory energy. For the first time, the region of the S11(1535) resonance is fully covered in a photoproduction experiment and allows a precise extraction of its parameters at the photon point. Above 1000 MeV, S-wave dominance vanishes while a P-wave contribution is observed whose nature will have to be clarified. These high precision data together with the already measured beam asymmetry data will provide stringent constraints on the extraction of new couplings of baryon resonances to the eta meson., 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Abstract

The Sigma beam asymmetry for positive pion photoproduction on the proton has been measured over an angular range of 40-170 deg at photon energies from 0.8 to 1.5 GeV. The resulting data set includes 237 accurate points, 136 of these belonging to an almost unexplored domain above 1.05 GeV. Data of such high precision provide severe constraints for partial wave analyses. The influence of this experiment on the GW multipole analysis is demonstrated. Significant changes are found in multipoles connected to the S31(1620) and P13(1720) resonances. Comparisons using the MAID analysis are also presented., Comment: 11 pages, 4 eps figures. to be published in Physics Letters B

Abstract

Informetrics, the mathematical and statistical study of information processes, is a new promising field of research in information science. Advantages but also pitfalls and misuses of mathematics and statistics in social sciences are presented. A selection of applications (mono and multidimensionnal) coming from mathematical informetrics and statistical informetrics illustrate the efficiency of these methods.
