1. Sonographic Aeration Scoring Indicates Disease Severity in Critically Ill Patients with COVID-19

Abstract

Aims and Methods: We evaluated an ultrasound score from 0 to 32 points in eight pulmonary regions to monitor critically ill COVID-19 patients. The score was correlated to surrogate parameters of disease severity, i.e., the oxygenation index, respiratory support, mortality, plasma interleukin-6, and WHO and ARDS classifications. Results: A total of 27 patients were repeatedly examined, and 71 examinations were evaluated. Patients with severe COVID-19 scored higher (median 17) than those with moderate disease (median 11, p < 0.01). The score did not differentiate between stages of ARDS as defined by the Berlin criteria (p = 0.1) but could discern ARDS according to the revised ESICM definition (p = 0.002). Non-survivors had higher ultrasound scores than survivors (median 18.5 vs. 14, p = 0.04). The score correlated to the oxygenation index (ρ = −0.56, p = 0.03), and changes in the score between examinations correlated to changes in oxygenation (ρ = −0.41, p = 0.16). The correlation between the score and interleukin-6 was ρ = 0.35 (p < 0.001). The interrater reliability for the score was ICC = 0.87 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The ultrasound score is a reliable tool that might help monitor disease severity and may help stratify the risk of mortality.

Abstract

The bacterial thymidylate synthase ThyX catalyzes the reductive methylation of deoxyuridylate (dUMP) into deoxythymidylate (dTMP) and requires both folate and flavin for activity. Here, the authors combine biochemical experiments, spectroscopic measurements and flavin synthesis chemistry to show that formaldehyde (CH2O) can replace the natural methylene donor of ThyX in a CH2O-shunt reaction, yielding a carbinolamine intermediate with the reduced flavin coenzyme, and they present the crystal structure of this intermediate.

Abstract

IntroductionA caesarean section is a major obstetric procedure that can save the life of mother and child. Its purpose is to protect the mother's health from the complications of childbirth and to protect the baby's health. In sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), there are major inequalities in access to caesarean sections and significant variations in practices to determine the indications for the procedure. Periodic analyses of maternal deaths have shown that more than half of maternal and new born deaths are due to suboptimal care and are therefore potentially preventable. The objective of our study is to assess the impact of health staff training under the PADISS project (to support the health system's integrated development) on the quality of CS procedures in North Kivu, by comparing two periods.Material and methodsThe populations compared were recruited from the referral hospitals in North Kivu, DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo). The first (group 1) was made up of patient files studied retrospectively for the period from 01/11/2013 to 01/01/2016. The second group (group 2), studied prospectively, comprised patient files from June 2019 to January 2020. Obstetric, maternal and foetal data were compared. Statistical analyses were performed using STATA/IC 15.0 for Windows. Univariate and multiple logistic regression was performed to determine which characteristics are associated with maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.ResultsCS frequency was approximately 17% in both study periods. We observed a CS frequency of about 34% at North Kivu provincial hospital for the two populations studied. The main indications for CS were dystocia, foetal distress and scarred uterus for both populations. In the population studied prospectively, after the implementation of health staff training, there were fewer incidence rate of dystocia, foetal distress and neonatal death, a more complete patient record, shorter hospital stay, and fewer blood transfusions but more incidence rate of scarred uterus, post-operative complications and low birth weight. Intervention had no statistically significant impact on low birth weight (OR = 1.9, p = 0.13), on neonatal mortality (OR = 0.69, p = 0.21).ConclusionOur study shows a decrease in neonatal deaths, dystocia and foetal distress, but an increase in post-operative complications, maternal deaths and cases of scarred uterus and low birth weight. However, multiple logistic regression did no support the conclusion.

5. Intraoperative Evaluation of Resection Margins in Breast-Conserving Surgery for and Invasive Breast Carcinoma

Background: The challenge of breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is to remove the entire tumour with free margins and avoid secondary excision that may adversely affect the cosmetic outcome. Consequently, intraoperative evaluation of surgical margins is critical. The aims of this study were multiple. First, to analyse our methodology of intraoperative examination of the resection margins and to evaluate radiological and pathological methods in the assessment of the surgical margins. Second, to evaluate the factors associated with positive margins in our patient population. M&m: The data on the resection margin status of 290 patients who underwent BCS for invasive carcinoma or ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) between 2009 and 2016 were reviewed. Results: In the cohort of BCS with invasive carcinoma, the negative predictive value was 97.4% for intraoperative assessment by radiography and 81.8% for intraoperative assessment by pathology. The re-operation rate among cases without intraoperative assessment was 23.6% compared to 7.3% among cases with intraoperative assessment ( P = .003). Margin status was significantly associated with tumour size, histological subtype (invasive lobular carcinoma), and multifocality. In the population of BCS with DCIS, margin status was significantly associated with preoperative localisation and intraoperative margin assessment ( P = .03). Conclusion: There is no statistical difference between pathological and radiological intraoperative assessment. Tumour size, lobular subtype, and multifocality were found to be significantly associated with positive margins in cases with invasive carcinoma, whereas absence of intraoperative margin assessment was significantly associated with positive margins in cases with DCIS. Therefore, intraoperative margin assessment improves the likelihood of complete excision of the lesion.

Abstract

Primary ovarian intestinal-type mucinous carcinomas associated with mature teratoma are rare and represent less than 3% of all primary ovarian neoplasms. The molecular profile of these tumors is still controversial. We report here the first case of mucinous ovarian tumor in which mutation of the PIK3CA and P53 genes could be demonstrated by the next generation sequencing technique without KRAS mutation or HER2 amplification. Our data suggest that these mucinous carcinoma variants probably present an extremely complex molecular biology profile that should be known in the future to stratify therapeutic outcomes and potential targeted therapies, particularly in recurrent disease.

7. Quantification of stromal reaction in breast carcinoma and its correlation with tumor grade and free progression survival.

Abstract

Cancer progression results from a complex interplay between tumor cells and the extracellular milieu. In breast carcinoma, the stromal microenvironment has been suggested to play a major role in promoting tumor growth, progression, and invasion. The stroma of 154 resected specimens of invasive breast carcinoma of no special type was quantified using a digital image analyzer. Statistical analyses were performed between the quantity of stroma and survival, as well as between progression-free survival and clinicopathological data. Levels of myofibroblastic stroma varied from 0-46%, with a median of 15.1% and a standard deviation of 7.5. The myofibroblastic stromal reaction was statistically greater in grade 2 and 3 tumors (p = 0.029). Furthermore, there was a trend for worse progression-free survival in the group of node-negative tumors with strong smooth-muscle actin stromal expression (Log rank = 0.075). The present study demonstrates that the myofibroblastic reaction of breast invasive carcinoma of no special type is not merely a passive reaction, but seems to be an integral part of the neoplastic process by facilitating tumor progression and invasion. Additional, larger studies on mechanisms of stromal change are needed and may potentially lead to novel treatments.

Abstract

This study assesses the place of MSMEs in Haiti and gives a brief description of the relevant economic, regulatory and technological instruments of economic development and environmental protection. The discussions suggest that the application of such instruments will encourage and improve economic development in Haiti.The infrastructure necessary for MSEs drives growth and offers added value to economic development in Haiti. With an overview of Haitian MSEs we have been able to identify and palliate insufficiencies in the legislative framework regulating the operation of MSEs, as well as, understand their involvement in economic growth. MSEs are a powerful tool to reduce poverty, facilitate economic development and reinforce policies supporting environmental protection.

Abstract

Recent literature data suggest that the high-risk human papillomaviruses (HR-HPVs) testing with several molecular techniques could be an alternative to cytology in the detection of cervical intraepithelial neoplasias of grade 2 or worse (CIN2+). However, any molecular techniques have its own limits and may give false negative results which must be clearly known before undertaking a primary HPV screening. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the high-risk HPV hybrid capture II detection kit (HCII) which is considered as a “gold standard technique” in a series of 100 women having proved both cytological lesions of atypical squamous cells-cannot exclude an HSIL (ASC-H) or high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and histological lesions of CIN2+. The clinical sensitivity of HCII in women with a cytological diagnosis of ASC-H/HSIL and a diagnosis of CIN2+ is high but not absolute and estimated at 96% (95,6% and 100% of women with a diagnosis of CIN2/3 or invasive squamous cell carcinoma, resp.). These data although they are infrequent must be clearly referred before to start an HPV primary screening of CIN2+ especially with HCII methodology.

10. Breast Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Its Impact on the Surgical Treatment of Breast Cancer

Abstract

Breast MRI focuses on the detection of multifocality, multicentricity, and bilaterality of newly diagnosed breast cancer. A retrospective study was carried out on 833 patients that were diagnosed and treated for breast cancer between January 2002 and December 2011. Patients were divided into two groups: those that had a presurgery breast MRI and those that did not. The two groups were compared on the basis of the several parameters. The aim of the study was to determine whether the use of MRI in breast cancer screening changes the initial treatment decision. In 18% of the patients, MRI revealed a multifocal or a multicentric unilateral breast cancer, a bilateral tumour, or a larger cancer than initially diagnosed. Most of these patients underwent a second-look breast ultrasound, with or without an additional biopsy. The percentage of mastectomies did not increase as a result of an MRI exam. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy was used more often and the percentage of reoperations decreased when an MRI was performed.

11. Variable stromal periductular expression of CD34 and smooth muscle actin (SMA) in intraductal carcinoma of the breast.

Abstract

In breast carcinoma, the stromal loss of CD34 expression and acquisition of SMA myofibroblastic features may constitute a prerequisite for tumor invasiveness. However, this hypothesis remains controversial, with some authors describing the loss of CD34 fibrocytes in the absence of SMA myofibroblastic-like cells in the stroma of invasive carcinoma. Others have also described the disappearance of CD34 fibrocytes from in situ carcinoma. To clarify this issue, we compared the distribution of CD34 fibrocytes and SMA reactive myofibroblasts between stromal areas of tumor-free mammary tissue, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). In addition to 28 IDC, 300 normal duct-lobular units and 600 ducts with DCIS (158 low-grade, 266 intermediate, and 176 high-grade) were scored. The relationships between staining patterns and different histological features (grade of DCIS and presence or absence of necrosis) were compared. 12. Assessing the in vitro fitness of an oseltamivir-resistant seasonal A/H1N1 influenza strain using a mathematical model.

Abstract

In 2007, the A/Brisbane/59/2007 (H1N1) seasonal influenza virus strain acquired the oseltamivir-resistance mutation H275Y in its neuraminidase (NA) gene. Although previous studies had demonstrated that this mutation impaired the replication capacity of the influenza virus in vitro and in vivo, the A/Brisbane/59/2007 H275Y oseltamivir-resistant mutant completely out-competed the wild-type (WT) strain and was, in the 2008-2009 influenza season, the primary A/H1N1 circulating strain. Using a combination of plaque and viral yield assays, and a simple mathematical model, approximate values were extracted for two basic viral kinetics parameters of the in vitro infection. In the ST6GalI-MDCK cell line, the latent infection period (i.e., the time for a newly infected cell to start releasing virions) was found to be 1-3 h for the WT strain and more than 7 h for the H275Y mutant. The infecting time (i.e., the time for a single infectious cell to cause the infection of another one) was between 30 and 80 min for the WT, and less than 5 min for the H275Y mutant. Single-cycle viral yield experiments have provided qualitative confirmation of these findings. These results, though preliminary, suggest that the increased fitness success of the A/Brisbane/59/2007 H275Y mutant may be due to increased infectivity compensating for an impaired or delayed viral release, and are consistent with recent evidence for the mechanistic origins of fitness reduction and recovery in NA expression. The method applied here can reconcile seemingly contradictory results from the plaque and yield assays as two complementary views of replication kinetics, with both required to fully capture a strain's fitness.

13. Recurrence of Mitotically Active Cellular Fibroma of the Ovary

Abstract

Background. 10% of ovarian fibromatous tumours typically exhibit increased cellularity, mitotic activity, and less frequently nuclear atypia. Therefore, the classification within the group of fibromatous tumours may represent some difficulties, thus, one or several of these features should appear. Case. We introduce the clinical and pathologic features based on one case of recurrence of a mitotically active cellular ovarian fibroma (MACF) in the pararectal fossa. This recurrence took place six years after primary surgery. Macroscopically, the tumour was firm, fibrous, well delimited, yellow-white without gross necrosis. On microscopic examination, it was composed of a densely cellular proliferation of fibrolastic-like cells with bland nuclear features and arranged in a fascicular pattern. There was no sign of significant atypia or necrosis. Conclusion. Recently, this case is the first report of a recurrence of MACF, following primary surgery with no tumoral rupture or surgical difficulty. The clinical outcome of ovarian cellular fibromas (CFs) and MACFs is typically uneventful. This case, however, strongly suggests maintaining a long-term clinical follow-up even though the principal tumour was surgically treated without tumour rupture or in the absence of adherence or any surgical difficulty.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic may cause significant anxiety among healthcare professionals (HCPs). COVID-19-related psychological impacts on HCPs in Western countries have received relatively little attention. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the levels of anxiety in HCPs working in the province of Quebec (Canada) during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and identify factors associated with changes in anxiety scores. METHODS: An exploratory online cross-sectional survey was conducted among Quebec HCPs from April to July 2020. The Spielberger’s State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) was used to measure state anxiety among HCPs. Descriptive and multivariate analyses were performed. RESULTS: A total of 426 HCPs completed the survey. Anxiety scores ranged from 20 to 75 points, with 80 being the highest possible value on the STAI scale. Being a female HCP [B = 5.89, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.49–9.3] and declaring having the intention to avoid caring for patients with COVID-19 (B = 3.75, 95% CI: 1.29–6.22) were associated with increased anxiety scores. Having more years of experience was associated with decreased anxiety scores [B = –0.2, 95% CI: –0.32–(–0.08)]. CONCLUSION: Organizational strategies aimed at preventing and relieving anxiety should target junior female HCPs who express the intention to avoid caring for patients with COVID-19. Seniority could become an important criterion in selecting frontline HCPs during pandemics. Further studies are needed to comprehensively examine the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Canadian HCPs and identify evidence-based coping strategies.

Abstract

Most breast cancers exhibit low immune infiltration and are unresponsive to immunotherapy. We hypothesized that inhibition of the receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB (RANK) signaling pathway may enhance immune activation. Here we report that loss of RANK signaling in mouse tumor cells increases leukocytes, lymphocytes, and CD8+ T cells, and reduces macrophage and neutrophil infiltration. CD8+ T cells mediate the attenuated tumor phenotype observed upon RANK loss, whereas neutrophils, supported by RANK-expressing tumor cells, induce immunosuppression. RANKL inhibition increases the anti-tumor effect of immunotherapies in breast cancer through a tumor cell mediated effect. Comparably, pre-operative single-agent denosumab in premenopausal early-stage breast cancer patients from the Phase-II D-BEYOND clinical trial (NCT01864798) is well tolerated, inhibits RANK pathway and increases tumor infiltrating lymphocytes and CD8+ T cells. Higher RANK signaling activation in tumors and serum RANKL levels at baseline predict these immune-modulatory effects. Buschke-Löwenstein tumor (BLT) is a rare but impressive and aggressive entity and is mostly associated with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) 6 or 11 infection in immunocompromised patients. It stands out because of the importance of the recurrences and the risk of progression to a malignant tumor. The first-line treatment remains local radical surgery. Other treatments are controversial, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy. We report a new case regarding the management of a giant BLT in a non-immunocompromised woman, treated in a three-staged approach, starting with a radical excisional surgery, followed by a delayed reconstruction and then radiotherapy.

Die multilaterale Außenpolitik ist ein oft vergessener Eckpfeiler des militärischen Krisenmanagements der EU bei der Bekämpfung maritimer Sicherheitsbedrohungen. Diese Masterarbeit beabsichtigt, die internen und internationalen Kooperationserfahrungen der EU bei der Bekämpfung der Piraterie vor der somalischen Küste und der Eindämmung des Menschenschmuggels im Mittelmeer kritisch zu untersuchen. In einer vergleichenden Studie wird untersucht, wie sich der politische Wille der EU-Mitgliedstaaten, die Zusammenarbeit innerhalb der EU-Institutionen und insbesondere die EU-NATO Zusammenarbeit auf den Erfolg von zwei GSVP-Militäroperationen, EUNAVFOR Atalanta und EUNAVFOR Sophia, auswirken. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass der Faktor der effektiven Zusammenarbeit in der Vorbereitungsphase und in der erfolgreichen Umsetzung der Ziele bei Atalanta überwiegt, während Sophia große Lücken bezüglich der EU-Solidarität bei der Bewältigung des Flüchtlingsstroms nach Europa offenbart. Insgesamt muss festgestellt werden, dass wirtschaftliche Interessen die politische EU-Agenda dominieren und die humanitären Rettungsaktionen der EU-Streitkräfte auf See dem militärischen Kampf gegen die Schlepperboote untergeordnet werden.

Affecte en tant que technicien BTP sur un projet de developpement rural au Congo, je me suis interesse en 1993 a des evenements qui se produisirent en 1913 sur le plateau de Lekana. La perception des impots aupres de la population koukouya amena les autorites coloniales a envoyer la troupe afin de raisonner les villageois qui se revoltaient. Les tirailleurs les poursuivirent jusque dans les collines ou l’officier ordonna de les intimider par l’usage du fusil ; mais l’ordre mal interprete par les soldats se traduisit par des blesses et des morts. Parmi les survivants, se trouvait une femme avec son bebe. Ce dernier etait toujours de ce monde et vivait a Lague. Je le rencontrai et il me fit part du deroulement des evenements que lui conterent ses proches. Je conviai une trentaine de villageois a commemorer cette lamentable action qui s’etait produite 80 ans plus tot.

Abstract

Folate enzyme cofactors and their derivatives have the unique ability to provide a single carbon unit at different oxidation levels for the de novo synthesis of amino-acids, purines, or thymidylate, an essential DNA nucleotide. How these cofactors mediate methylene transfer is not fully settled yet, particularly with regard to how the methylene is transferred to the methylene acceptor. Here, we uncovered that the bacterial thymidylate synthase ThyX, which relies on both folate and flavin for activity, can also use a formaldehyde-shunt to directly synthesize thymidylate. Combining biochemical, spectroscopic and anaerobic crystallographic analyses, we showed that formaldehyde reacts with the reduced flavin coenzyme to form a carbinolamine intermediate used by ThyX for dUMP methylation. The crystallographic structure of this intermediate reveals how ThyX activates formaldehyde and uses it, with the assistance of active site residues, to methylate dUMP. Our results reveal that carbinolamine species promote methylene transfer and suggest that the use of a CH2O-shunt may be relevant in several other important folate-dependent reactions., The bacterial thymidylate synthase ThyX catalyzes the reductive methylation of deoxyuridylate (dUMP) into deoxythymidylate (dTMP) and requires both folate and flavin for activity. Here, the authors combine biochemical experiments, spectroscopic measurements and flavin synthesis chemistry to show that formaldehyde (CH2O) can replace the natural methylene donor of ThyX in a CH2O-shunt reaction, yielding a carbinolamine intermediate with the reduced flavin coenzyme, and they present the crystal structure of this intermediate.

Abstract

Viruses are the smallest currently known organisms. All are obligate parasites; thus, they have absolute requirement to grow in host cells, and, in many cases, can only grow in particular tissue types and/or in specific types of hosts. For example, viruses that infect vertebrate animals cannot infect plants and vice versa, although a few viruses can grow in insects and in either plants or animals. Because no virus can replicate by itself, the need to use a host cell often results in disease manifestation. Several characteristics differentiate viruses from all other known organisms. All known cellular life forms have their genetic information as DNA, and this DNA is copied into RNA for protein translation. While some viruses also have DNA genomes, many viruses have an RNA genome and never make or use DNA. Of more fundamental difference, all cellular life forms replicate by binary division, whereas viruses are spontaneously assembled from their component parts.

Objectives The aim of this study was to perform a comprehensive analysis of factors that affect procedural outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement using the ACURATE neo prosthesis (Symetis/Boston, Ecublens, Switzerland). Background Predictors of procedural outcomes using the ACURATE neo prosthesis are poorly understood. Methods A total of 500 patients underwent transfemoral aortic valve replacement with the ACURATE neo prosthesis. Device landing zone calcification was stratified as severe, moderate, or mild. Anatomic and procedural predictors of second-degree or greater paravalvular leakage and permanent pacemaker implantation were assessed. Results Post-procedural second-degree or greater paravalvular leakage was more frequent with increasing device landing zone calcification (mild 0.8% vs. moderate 5.0% vs. severe 13.0%; p Conclusions Successful transcatheter aortic valve replacement using the ACURATE neo device predominantly depends on careful patient selection with appropriate oversizing and taking into account the individual anatomy and calcium distribution of the aortic root.

Abstract

International audience; Objectives: We conducted a retrospective study to characterize the cardiac complications in patients with genetically confirmed type 1 facioscapulohumeral dystrophy. Methods: We reviewed baseline cardiac investigations, including electrocardiogram, Holter electrocardiogram and echocardiogram, as well as cardiac complications that occurred during follow-up in 56 adult patients (37 men, mean duration of disease: 20 years). Results: Baseline evaluation revealed minor cardiac anomalies in 23 patients including incomplete right bundle branch block (iRBBB) in 13 patients (23%). Over a mean follow-up period of 7.2 years, there was no cardiac death, no patient developed cardiomyopathy, and 28 patients (50%) experienced cardiac anomalies. Among these patients, 3 had one or more major events (heart failure and/or atrial fibrillation). The remaining 25 patients presented minor cardiac anomalies of which iRBBB was the most frequent (25%). Conclusions: Cardiac anomalies identified during the follow-up of patients with type 1 facioscapulohumeral dystrophy are mainly minor anomalies, dominated by the iRBBB.

Introduction: Carcinomatous lesions associated with phyllodes tumors are extremely rare and are found in less than 1% of all cases. To date, the molecular biological mechanisms associated with this carcinomatous transformation remain unknown. Presentation of case: We present here the case of a 61-year-old patient with invasive ductal of no special type (NST) carcinoma originating in a borderline phyllode tumor with mutation in the PIK3CA gene. Discussion: To the best of our knowledge, this mutation has never been described in this type of association. Conclusion: Based on these data, we can better understand the ethiopathogenic molecular mechanisms in this type of lesion. Primary ovarian intestinal-type mucinous carcinomas associated with mature teratoma are rare and represent less than 3% of all primary ovarian neoplasms. The molecular profile of these tumors is still controversial. We report here the first case of mucinous ovarian tumor in which mutation of the PIK3CA and P53 genes could be demonstrated by the next generation sequencing technique without KRAS mutation or HER2 amplification. Our data suggest that these mucinous carcinoma variants probably present an extremely complex molecular biology profile that should be known in the future to stratify therapeutic outcomes and potential targeted therapies, particularly in recurrent disease.

International audience; Copper is currently extensively studied because it provides promising electrodes for carbon dioxide electroreduction. The original combination, reported here, of a nanostructured porous dendritic Cu-based material, characterized by electron microcopy (SEM, TEM) and X-ray diffraction methods, and a water/ionic liquid mixture as the solvent, contributing to CO 2 solubilization and activation, results in a remarkably efficient (large current densities at low overpotentials), stable and selective (large faradic yields) electrocatalytic system for the conversion of CO 2 into formic acid, a product with a variety of uses. These results provide new directions for the further improvement of Cu electrodes.

Abstract

International audience; A gold-based nanostructure has been demonstrated as promising materials for the selective electroreduction of CO2 to CO in aqueous conditions. In this work, we present a carbon nanotube-gold nanohybrid as a selective and efficient electrocatalyst for the reduction of CO2 in 0.5 m NaHCO3 . The hybrid material exhibits remarkable activity with a current density of 10 mA cm-2 at -0.55 V versus standard hydrogen electrode with a stable CO production rate (0.52 μmol s-1 ) after 4 h electrolysis. Monodispersed gold nanoparticles anchored on carbon nanotubes through a layer-by-layer method allows very little Au loading and thus minimization of the cost of electrode fabrication with a mass activity up to 100 A g-1 at -0.55 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode. It is 33 times higher than a previous report for monodisperse Au nanoparticles (3 A g-1 ) while ensuring selectivity (70 % faradaic yield of CO) at comparable reduction potential.
