Studies have shown that teaching of facts to adolescents is not an effective means of modifying sexual behavior. However, knowledge of personal risk and learned assertiveness skills may lead to behavioral change. Peer pressure and parental guidance are also important factors in the success of sex education programs. However, studies on the impact of sex education programs are still lacking and various sectors are still in disagreement as to what sex education should be like.

Evaluates a controlled experimental implementation of a sex education program in a British secondary school in terms of attitude, knowledge gain and behavior change and acceptability. Main outcome measures; Conclusion that school sex education with specific targeted methods using medical staff and peers can produce behavioral changes that lead to health benefit.
