One of the main challenges in operating multistate manufacturing systems (MMSs) is maintaining stable and robust production against various disruptions. Therefore, an urgent need exists for an operation and maintenance (O&M) method that optimises MMS resilience, i.e. the capability of withstanding or recover from disruptions of various sources. Consequently, this study proposes an integrated resilience-oriented production and maintenance scheduling approach for MMSs. This approach enhances MMS resilience by reinforcing its adaptivity to the variation in production requirements. Based on a conceptual investigation of operational uncertainty and its mechanism of disruption, this study devotes to (i) formulating a performance loss-based resilience measurement with consideration of operational uncertainties and (ii) proposing a reinforcement learning-based approach to schedule MMS operation and maintenance activities for MMS components of different performance states. An industrial case study of a ferrite phase shifter manufacturing system is subsequently conducted to validate the proposed approach. In this research, we developed a low-power silicon photonics foundry-fabricated slow-light thermal phase shifter (SLTPS) where the slow-light (SL) effect is achieved using an integrated Bragg grating (BG) waveguide. Heating the grating induces a red shift in the transmission spectrum, leading to an increased group index n g during operation, which facilitates a further reduction in the voltage needed for a π phase shift, i.e., V π. Additionally, we investigated a compact Mach–Zehnder Interferometer (MZI) that incorporates the SLTPS in both arms with a phase shifter length of 50 μ m. A detailed theoretical analysis was conducted to address the non-idealities of the SL-MZI due to uneven optical power splitting and unbalanced loss in the two MZI arms. V π and power consumption for a π phase shift (P π) of the SL-MZI were quantified for operation in the slow-light regime, demonstrating a V π of 1.1 V and a P π of 3.63 mW at an operational wavelength near the photonic band edge. The figure of merit P π × τ is commonly used to assess the performance of thermal optical switches. The SL-MZI in this work has achieved a low P π × τ of 5.1 mW μ s with an insertion loss of 4.4 dB, indicating a trade-off with the V π reduction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electronic–photonic computing systems offer immense potential in energy-efficient artificial intelligence (AI) acceleration tasks due to the superior computing speed and efficiency of optics, especially for real-time, low-energy deep neural network inference tasks on resource-restricted edge platforms. However, current optical neural accelerators based on foundry-available devices and conventional system architecture still encounter a performance gap compared to highly customized electronic counterparts. To bridge the performance gap due to lack of domain specialization, we present a time-multiplexed dynamic photonic tensor accelerator, dubbed TeMPO , with cross-layer device/circuit/architecture customization. At the device level, we present foundry-compatible, customized photonic devices, including a slow-light electro-optic modulator with experimental demonstration, optical splitters, and phase shifters that significantly reduce the footprint and power in input encoding and dot-product calculation. At the circuit level, partial products are hierarchically accumulated via parallel photocurrent aggregation, lightweight capacitive temporal integration, and sequential digital summation, considerably relieving the analog-to-digital conversion bottleneck. We also employ a multi-tile, multi-core architecture to maximize hardware sharing for higher efficiency. Across diverse edge AI workloads, TeMPO delivers digital-comparable task accuracy with superior quantization/noise tolerance. We achieve a 368.6 TOPS peak performance, 22.3 TOPS/W energy efficiency, and 1.2 TOPS/mm2 compute density, pushing the Pareto frontier in edge AI hardware. This work signifies the power of cross-layer co-design and domain-specific customization, paving the way for future electronic–photonic accelerators with even greater performance and efficiency. We experimentally investigate phase shift gained by electromagnetic radiation transmitted through a two-dimensional electron system (2DES) on a dielectric substrate. We systematically examined the dependence of the phase shift on the radiation frequency and 2DES electron density for the GaAs semiconductor substrate. A theoretical approach was developed that found good agreement with experimental results. We demonstrate a practically achievable phase shift of 105 °. As the demand for high-capacity and energy-efficient wireless communications grows, the exploration of cost-effective and power-optimized hybrid digital-analog beamforming techniques for millimeter-wave massive MIMO systems has gained substantial traction. Adopting low-resolution phase shifters offers a more practical solution in terms of reducing power consumption and implementation costs. We investigate hybrid beamforming strategies for mmWave massive MIMO systems that employ low-resolution phase shifters, with a specific focus on designing and optimizing the analog beamforming component. To exploit the full potential of analog phase shifter network (APSN) in mmWave massive MIMO system while maintaining low-power consumption, we propose a two-layer APSN with low-resolution PSs to replace the conventional single-layer APSN with high-resolution PSs. Under the constraints imposed by the two-layer APSN hardware architecture, we propose a two-level codebook structure and an adaptive-weighted cross-entropy optimization algorithm that offers superior performance while substantially reducing the computational burden compared to the conventional cross-entropy optimization algorithm. We further develop two alternative schemes through the maximal gain harvest method to reduce complexity. We also investigate the case that only one steering vector is shared in the inner beamformer and present two low-complexity beamforming algorithms. Through simulations, the proposed two-layer APSN structure and the proposed algorithms have been shown to outperform existing methods, with notable effectiveness in scenarios where low-resolution phase shifters are utilized. Chirality, one of the universal phenomena in physics, forms the playground for fascinating phenomena in modern electromagnetism and industrial applications. Within the rapidly advancing technologies of integrated optoelectronic and all‐optical devices, controlling the light flow on a chip using optical chiral modes emerges as a crucial topic, which implies numerous counterintuitive chiroptical effects such as unidirectional emission, magnetic‐free non‐reciprocity, chiral switching, and enhanced sensitivity. Here strong yet reconfigurable mode chirality is demonstrated in integrated silicon‐based spiral microring resonators. Leveraging the adjustable azimuthal positions of two spiral edges as asymmetric local scatterers, the inter‐modal coupling can be manipulated, which bypasses the requirement of external off‐chip components in conventional schemes. Besides, an integrated phase shifter enables electrical reconfiguration of the non‐Hermiticity toward or away from exceptional points. Experimental results reveal post‐fabrication reconfiguration with a sign‐reversible chirality and chirality‐induced suppression of backscattering down to −24 dB. By virtue of demonstrations using standard silicon photonics foundry services, the findings provide a new design framework of microresonators as a building block for integrated chiral photonics in both classical and quantum regimes. Ultra-compact passive phase shifters are inversely designed by the multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm. The wavelength-dependent phase difference between two output beams originates from the different distances of the input light passing through the 4 μm × 3.2 μm rectangular waveguide with random-distributed air-hole arrays. As the wavelength changes from 1535 to 1565 nm, a phase difference tuning range of 6.26 rad and 6.95 rad is obtained for TE and TM modes, respectively. Compared with the array waveguide grating counterpart, the phase shifters exhibit higher transmission with a much smaller footprint. By combining the inverse-designed phase shifter and random-grating emitter together, integrated beam-steering structures are built, which show a large scanning range of ±25.47° and ±27.85° in the lateral direction for TE and TM mode, respectively. This paper proposes a novel hybrid beamforming (HBF) structure for gain-aware grouping transmit antennas and users in multiuser multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) systems. In the conventional HBF structure, all transmit antennas form a beam to each user. In this case, the gain of each antenna varies depending on the location of the base station and each user, and the transmit power after the digital beamformer is allocated to the antenna with the smallest gain. Signals transmitted from antennas with small gains are susceptible to noise and interference. Therefore, this paper proposes an HBF structure in which only the antenna with the highest gain forms the beam for each user. In the proposed scheme, the transmitting antennas are grouped and the beam is formed only by the group of antennas with the highest gain for each user. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the number of phase shifters used on the transmit side compared to the conventional HBF scheme while maintaining sum-rate performance when the number of transmit antennas and users are the same. It was also shown that there is a trade-off between the reduction in the number of phase shifters used to form the beam and the improvement in performance as the number of transmit antennas increases. Furthermore, it is shown that when antenna selection is used, although there is a trade-off between the number of phase shifters and performance improvement, the number of phase shifters can be reduced while maintaining performance even when the number of transmit antennas increases. Mode‐division multiplexing (MDM) introduces a new dimension to on‐chip optical interconnection, where the multimode optical switch is one of the core components. However, researchers are still struggling to reduce the chip size and response time, despite great efforts being made. Here, a compact, scalable, fast‐response multimode 2 × 2 switch supporting four modes is demonstrated based on the specific inverse design. The device consists of two multimode 2 × 2 CB couplers (including mode converters, multimode interference couplers, and crossings) and a thermo‐optic (TO) phase shifter. It achieves extinction ratios exceeding 15 dB for all modes at the central wavelength of 1.55 µm. All the fundamental components are designed by an improved general shape optimization method, realizing a compact size and a larger manufacturing tolerance (±20 nm). Besides, a hydrogen‐doped indium oxide microheater is introduced as a TO phase shifter to achieve a fast response (≈3.5 µs in average) for all modes. • Stepped displacer plus bypasses is proposed attempting to improve energy conversion efficiency through naturally introduce DC flows by bypasses. • With additional positive DC flows in the 1st stage regenerator and the 2nd stage regenerator, cooling power at 20 K reaches 2.69 W, which is improved by 89 % compared to the model without DC flows. • For the two-stage pulse tube cooler with stepped displacer as the phase shifter, clearance gaps between the displacer piston and cylinder shell induce negative DC1 flow and DC2 flow, which leads to performance deterioration. • A cooling power of 2.04 W at 20 K is obtained with stepped displacer plus bypasses, and the relative Carnot efficiency reaching 13.0 %, which is 56.9 % higher than the values only with stepped displacer. Stirling-type pulse tube cooler (SPTC) is the most prospective thermoacoustic refrigerator due to its long lifetime, high reliability and low vibration, and the phase shifter significantly affects the energy conversion efficiency of SPTC. A novel phase shifter of the stepped displacer plus bypasses (SD-B) is proposed in this paper. Thermoacoustic impedance characteristics of the stepped displacer (SD) and the stepped displacer plus bypasses (SD-B) are analyzed. Based on a two-stage SPTC, the effect of additional combined DC flows in the system is first investigated. Results indicate that the cooling capacity could be improved through introducing additional DC flows in the positive direction from the hot end of regenerator to pulse tube. While for SD, negative DC flows are induced due to the clearance seal gaps between the displacer piston and cylinder shell. Thus, SD-B is explored to improve energy conversion efficiency through naturally introducing DC flows by bypasses. The influence of the opening diameter of two bypasses is investigated, and comparisons between the SD and SD-B are performed. Results indicate that with SD-B, the cooling capacity at 20 K achieves a maximum of 2.04 W with a relative Carnot efficiency of 13.0 %, 56.9 % higher than that of SD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The high‐temperature layered superconductor (HTS) BSCCO is one of the key quantum material platforms in THz science and technology. Compact, stable, and reliable BSCCO THz photonic integrated circuit components can be developed to effectively and efficiently control and manipulate THz wave radiation, especially for future communication systems and network applications. Herein, the design, simulation, and modeling of ultrafast THz metamaterial photonic integrated circuits are reported on a few nanometer‐thick HTS BSCCO van der Waals (vdWs), capable of the active modulation of phase with constant transmission coefficient over a narrow‐frequency range. Meanwhile, the metamaterial circuit works as an amplitude modulator without significantly changing the phase in a different frequency band. Under the application of ultrashort optical pulses, the transient modulation dynamics of the THz metamaterial offer a fast‐switching timescale of 50 ps. The dynamics of picosecond light–matter interaction, Cooper pairs breaking, photoinduced quasiparticles generation and recombination, phonon bottleneck effect, and emission and relaxation of bosons in BSCCO vdW metamaterial arrays are discussed for the potential application of multifunctional superconducting photonic integrated circuits in communication and quantum technologies. This paper presents a novel 3 × 3 phased array antenna optimized for 4 GHz operation, achieving a realized gain of 13.2 dBi and enabling 30-degree beam steering with a minimal capacitance variation of 1.5 pF. The design features a series aperture-coupled feeding mechanism that not only reduces the antenna's size but also simplifies the fabrication process, making the device both cost-effective and compact. Integrating cost-efficient quadrature-hybrid phase shifters and novel power splitters with cascaded quadrature hybrids ensures uniform power distribution and precise beam steering. New configurations of 2-D phased arrays are proposed in this paper for reducing the number of phase shifters. This design methodology is based on the use of a novel coherently radiating periodic structures (CORPSs) block for 2-D phased arrays. Two new antenna systems for 2-D phased arrays are studied and analyzed utilizing the CORPSs blocks of four inputs and nine outputs. These CORPSs feeding blocks are applied in a smart way to feed the planar antenna arrays by generating the required phase plane and reducing the number of control ports. Interesting results are provided based on the experimental measurements and full-wave simulations. These results illustrate a great reduction of the active devices (phase shifters), providing a good design compromise in terms of the scanning range and side lobe level performance. Furthermore, the provided results illustrate a maximum reduction capability in the number of phase shifters of 81%, considering a scanning range of ±30° in azimuth and ±30° in elevation. A raised cosine distribution is applied to reach side lobe levels of −19 dB for ±18° and −17 dB for ±30° in elevation. These benefits could be of interest to designers of phased antenna systems. Rotational Doppler shift of a circularly polarized wave impinging normally on a rotating anisotropic surface, causes scattered waves with frequency shift equals twice the surface rotation frequency. We show that virtual rotational Doppler shift can be realized in transmission line platforms through a time-varying junction. In a system consisting of a pair of decoupled but identical transmission lines, voltage waves with a 90-degree phase difference between the two lines mimic a circularly polarized wave. A junction, comprising three time-varying capacitors and a static two-port network, connects the two lines and acts as a synthetically rotating anisotropic surface. As a result, the reflected and transmitted voltage (or current) waves undergo a frequency shift equal to twice the synthetic rotation frequency. Utilizing this effect, a full frequency converter is then proposed by augmenting the synthetically rotating capacitive junction with a dispersive phase shifter, followed by a short circuit. The system efficiently converts the incident tone into a single down- or up-converted tone, with amplification observed in the case of up-conversion. The frequency converter is subsequently employed to design a magnetic-free isolator. Circuit simulations with both ideal and switch-based time-varying capacitors match theoretical predictions. We develop a protocol for learning a class of interacting bosonic Hamiltonians from dynamics with Heisenberg-limited scaling. For Hamiltonians with an underlying bounded-degree graph structure, we can learn all parameters with root mean square error ϵ using O (1 / ϵ) total evolution time, which is independent of the system size, in a way that is robust against state-preparation and measurement error. In the protocol, we only use bosonic coherent states, beam splitters, phase shifters, and homodyne measurements, which are easy to implement on many experimental platforms. High‐speed wide‐angle radio detection is crucial for intelligent wireless systems, autonomous vehicles, rescue operations in urgent situations, and security in various fields. This can be achieved through diverse controls of electromagnetic waves. Currently, multidimensional manipulations of electromagnetic waves are determined by dynamic antennas like phased arrays, mechanical beam‐steering radars, and programmable metasurface imagers. However, these methods face challenges in achieving rapid responses and large data collection intervals for high‐speed sensing and imaging, due to limitations in the speedy explication of analog‐to‐digital (AD) converters, electronic switches, phase shifters, and stepped motors for radiation beam reconfigurations. To address these challenges, advanced microwave‐to‐millimeter‐wave metasurfaces are introduced, designed to offer joint frequency, polarization, and spatial diversities. The metasurface with a disordered atom permutation enables wide‐angle sensing for accurate trajectory tracking of moving objects. On the other hand, a dispersion‐engineered atom arrangement allows the metasurfaces to facilitate wide‐angle through‐wall imaging, effective in detecting objects of varied shapes and positions. The experiments reveal that these metasurfaces can reconstruct objects at 100 frames per second (fps) from a single‐shot measurement, allowing 0.3x speed playback for detailed analysis. This demonstrates their potential in high‐speed sensing and imaging. Such a breakthrough is pivotal in unveiling new modalities and expanding possibilities in real‐time radio applications, including smart transportation, all‐condition surveillance, perspective radio, and integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems, especially relevant to technologies of 6G and beyond. Phase shifter (PS) is a key component of a phased array antenna (PAA) system, which controls the microwave phase and realizes the antenna beam forming and scanning. A ferrite PS (FPS) is a current-controlled PS that uses the ferrite's gyromagnetic properties to realize phase shifting. It has the advantages of short phase switching time, low microwave loss, and high reliability and, therefore, has been widely used in low-power PAA systems. However, the power handling capability of the traditional Ku-band FPS is only a few kW, prohibiting FPS from being used in high-power microwave (HPM) PAA systems. Spurred by this concern, this paper proposes a new dual-toroid FPS structure with an external magnetic excitation. By optimizing the PS configuration, improving the integration process, and enhancing the performance of ferrite materials, a single FPS in the Ku band has reached the power handling capability of more than 300 kW with an insertion loss of less than −1.2 dB, the phase shift range of 0°–360°, the width less than 11.5 mm, and the ability of a one-dimensional array. This paper proposed an X-band phase shifter for the very compact inverse Compton scattering gamma-ray source program at Tsinghua University and conducted its structure design, numerical simulation, fabrication, cold test, and high-power testing. This phase shifter is composed of a polarizer, circular waveguide, and a piston with a choke structure. The simulation results show that the reflection coefficient of the phase shifter is under −40 dB and the insertion coefficient exceeds −0.06 dB at the operating frequency of 11.424 GHz. The phase variation is 20°/mm, and a linear phase change from 0° to 360° can be achieved with a piston displacement of 18 mm. The manufactured phase shifter has exhibited good performance in the cold test by using the vector network analyzer. After 16 h conditioning in the Tsinghua X-band high-power test stand, the phase shifter reached a peak power of 72 MW at 230 ns pulse width and a peak power of 82 MW at 130 ns pulse width. After processing signals from the high-speed oscilloscope, it was found that the transmission phase variations were in good agreement with the simulation results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This letter presents a new circularly polarized (CP) active antenna for global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) operating in the L1‐band (1.164–1.28 GHz) and L2‐band (1.525–1.615 GHz). The active antenna consists of a passive antenna and a two‐channel low‐noise amplifier (LNA) circuit. To achieve wideband coverage of the L1/L2 bands while maintaining a low profile, a new electroplating process is utilized in fabricating the passive antenna. Additionally, to realize CP performance, the passive antenna is sequentially fed by four ports with a wideband feeding network. To minimize phase variations, a 90° phase shifter loaded with open‐short‐stub is integrated into the feeding network. Furthermore, to improve noise immunity, out‐of‐band rejection, and amplify GNSS signals, the LNA circuit cascades two‐stage dielectric bandpass filters and three‐stage LNAs. Consequently, the circuit features a low noise figure of below 1.65 dB, a maximum out‐of‐band rejection level of 60 dB, and a stable active gain of 30 dB. The electronic beam steering in conformal phased arrays is formed by exciting the multiple antennas with appropriate phase shifts. However, the malfunctioning of phase shifters connected to the central antenna elements in the conformal array distorts the radiation pattern of the array system severely as compared to edge elements resulting in the reduction of the array gain and increase in the side lobe levels. Here, the authors propose a non‐dominated sorting multi‐objective particle swarm optimisation (NS‐MOPSO) technique capable of recalculating the independent phases of working antenna elements in the array in such a manner as to correct the overall radiation pattern. To illustrate the radiation pattern's recovery capabilities of the optimisation technique in case of malfunctioning of any random phase shifter(s), a 1 x 7 microstrip patch antenna array operating at 2.45 GHz on a wedge‐shaped conformal structure was designed in CST simulator. To test, the radiation pattern's recovery capabilities of the NS‐MOPSO approach, phase shifters connected to the antenna elements in the array were made to malfunction. Then the optimisation algorithm recalculates the phases for individual antenna elements to achieve the desired corrected radiation pattern. In this paper, a filterless 32-tupling millimeter wave generation scheme based on eight MZMs is proposed. The system has an upper and lower parallel two-branch structure. The upper branch consists of two subsystems Sub-A and Sub-B in cascade, each subsystem contains four MZMs, and the MZMs are all operating at maximum transfer point (MATP). Sub-A mainly generates ±8th order optical sideband signal as the incident light signal of Sub-B. After modulation of Sub−B, the output signal is mainly ±16th order optical sideband signal containing the central optical carrier component. The optical attenuator (OATT) and optical phase shifter (OPS) of the lower branch are used to regulate the phase and amplitude of the optical carrier. The upper and lower branches are coupled, and the central optical carrier component is superimposed and cancelled so only the ±16th order optical sideband signal is retained. Finally, the 32-tupling frequency millimeter is generated by the photodiode (PD) receiver after photoelectric detection which receives and generates a 32-tupling frequency millimeter wave signal. The simulation results show that the 160 GHz millimeter wave signal can be obtained by driving the MZM with a 5 GHz RF signal, and the optical sideband suppression ratio (OSSR) and the RF sideband suppression ratio (RFSSR) are 52.6 dB and 44.75 dB, respectively. Summary: This letter presents a design method for dual‐band filtering phase shifters, which is based on E‐type networks. The dual‐band filtering function and different predetermined phase shift values are realized by E‐type networks and two delay lines. The dual‐band bandwidth and frequency ratio can be adjusted. Moreover, the dual‐band phase‐shift bandwidth has been extended. Finally, a dual‐band filtering phase shifter with simple structure and good filtering characteristics is fabricated and measured, which can provide 90 ± 5° and 225 ± 5° phase shifts at 1.75–2.58 GHz and 4.38–5.78 GHz, respectively. In this paper, we utilise optimization methods to determine a frequency-independent phase shift such that two phase-shifted versions of a signal can be summed and the resulting amplitude spectrum is unchanged. A phase difference between two signals is thus defined, which remains constant for all frequencies within a given range. For the intended purpose of this study, we set the frequency range to the audible human hearing range of 16 Hz–20 kHz. We found that a new 3-stage filter method provides a variable phase shifter (i.e., ϕ = 0–360°) without the need for additional amplifiers. Hybrid beamforming for multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO) communications is an attractive technology for realizing extremely massive MIMO systems envisioned for future wireless communications in a scalable and power-efficient manner. However, the fact that hybrid MIMO systems implement part of their beamforming in analog and part in digital makes the optimization of their beampattern notably more challenging compared with conventional fully digital MIMO. Consequently, recent years have witnessed growing interest in using data-aided artificial intelligence (AI) tools for hybrid beamforming design. This article reviews candidate strategies to leverage data to improve real-time hybrid beamforming design. We discuss the architectural constraints and characterize the core challenges associated with hybrid beamforming optimization. We then present how these challenges are treated via conventional optimization, and identify different AI-aided design approaches. These can be roughly divided into purely data-driven deep learning models and different forms of deep unfolding techniques for combining AI with classical optimization. We provide a systematic comparative study between existing approaches, including both numerical evaluations and qualitative measures. The performance of all active photonic devices today is greatly limited by loss. Here, we show that one can engineer a low loss path in a metal-clad lossy multi-mode waveguide while simultaneously achieving high-performance active photonic devices. We leverage non-Hermitian systems operating beyond the exceptional point to enable the redistribution of losses in a multi-mode photonic waveguide. Consequently, our multi-mode waveguide offers low propagation losses for fundamental mode while other higher order modes experience prohibitively high losses. Furthermore, we show an application of this non-Hermitian waveguide platform in designing power-efficient thermo-optic phase shifters with significantly faster response times than conventional silicon-based thermo-optic phase shifters. Our device achieves a propagation loss of less than 0.02 dB μm−1 for our non-Hermitian waveguide-based phase shifters with high performance efficiency of Pπ ⋅ τ = 19.1 mW μs. In addition, our phase shifters have significantly faster response time (rise/fall time), τ ≈ 1.4 μs, compared to traditional silicon based thermo-optic phase shifters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Fabry-Pérot interferometer, a fundamental component in optoelectronic systems, offers interesting applications such as sensors, lasers, and filters. In this work, we show a tunable Fabry-Pérot cavity consisting of tunable Sagnac loop reflectors (SLRs) and phase shifters based on electrostatic microelectromechanical (MEMS) actuator. The fabrication process of the device is compatible with the standard wafer-level silicon photonics fabrication processes. This electrostatic actuation mechanism provides well-balanced, scalable pathways for efficient tuning methodologies. The extinction ratio of the continuously tunable SLRs' reflectivity is larger than 20 dB. Full 2π phase shifting is achieved, and response times of all the components are less than 25 μs. The present study used polyphenylene ether/Polypropylene/glass fiber (PPO/PP/GF) composites as the matrix material to obtain the dielectric plate material to be used in the dielectric phase shifters for 5G base stations. First, the reinforcement effect of the compound compatibilizers comprising PP‐g‐MAH and SEBS‐g‐MAH on the PPO/PP/GF composites was investigated. The experimental results revealed that the compound compatibilizers could dramatically improve the compatibility and performance of the PP/PPO/GF composites through synergistic compatibility. Next, the crystallization effect of CaTiO3 fillers on the PPO/PP/GF composites was investigated. The DSC analysis revealed that using a small amount of CaTiO3 promoted the crystallization of PP, while using a large amount of CaTiO3 inhibited the crystallization effect. At a compatibilizer content of 6 wt% and CaTiO3 in the range of 10–85 wt%, the CaTiO3/PP/PPO/GF composite presented a continuously adjustable dielectric constant (εr = 2.32–20.9), low dielectric loss (tanδ < 0.0019), and high heat resistance (VST = 169.5–177°C), and could, therefore, be used as a dielectric plate material in the dielectric phase shifters for 5G base stations. In this paper, a new 180° broadband phase shifter with coupled microstrip line with enhanced coupling by etched slots is proposed, which uses the energy coupling between the parallel‐coupled microstrip lines on the upper layer of the dielectric substrate and the etched rectangular slots (RS) structure on the bottom floor to circumvent the problem for achieving wide operating broadband and low insertion loss with compact size and simple structure. First, the main line and the reference line of the proposed phase shifter are composed of two parallel coupled lines and a uniform transmission line, respectively. Then, its working mechanism is described. Afterward, the phase shifter introduced an RS structure to increase the coupling strength, achieving a broadband of 69.7% and very low insertion loss (0.09 dB) with a phase shift of 180 ± 5°. Finally, a prototype 180° phase shifter with a center frequency of 3.0 GHz was designed, fabricated, and measured, and the measured results are good in agreement with the simulated ones. The Millimeter-wave and Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output technologies are promising candidates to offer high data rates and system throughputs in the next-generation wireless communication systems. In massive MIMO systems, the precoder plays a leading role to cancel the interference between the data stream and thereby reduce the complexity of the receiver design. In the conventional fully digital precoding scheme, many Radio Frequency chains are essential for every antenna array. Therefore, a hybrid precoder is a feasible solution to reduce the RF chains and improve the antenna array gain by dividing the signal processing into analog and digital precoders. Designing a hybrid precoder is a non-convex optimization problem because the phase shifter in the analog precoder holds hardware constraints. To address this, an intelligent hybrid precoder is designed using deep learning algorithms. In this paper, the Deep Learning framework is incorporated for hybrid precoder as it renovates non-convex problems into a network training process. In this work, the hybrid precoder is based on decomposition techniques such as Uniform Channel Decomposition (UCD) and Generalized Triangular Decomposition method, which is implemented in the training process as it provides equal gain for all subchannels to diminish the inter subchannel interference. The simulation results validate the proposed work is superior in terms of the Bit Error Rate in comparison with other conventional decomposition techniques. Digital coding and programmable metasurfaces stand out as promising candidates in future wireless communications due to their low costs and fast‐action reprogrammable capability. However, 2 significant obstacles, namely integration and power consumption, must be addressed before large‐scale engineering application of the programmable metasurface. This work proposes an easy‐integration and energy‐saving meta‐system and demonstrates its application in wireless communications. The meta‐system features a hybrid architecture and consists of a programmable feed array and a metasurface lens. The feed array comprises 3 subarrays, in which active elements are doped with passive elements and interconnected configurations are used to efficiently reduce the number of active elements by one‐third. The meta‐lens acts as a passive phase shifter to enhance the beamforming performance, further reducing the number of active elements. Moreover, the meta‐system can switch between different modes to achieve various functions. In particular, the maximum power consumption of the meta‐system is only 54 mW, which can be considered nearly passive. A wireless communication experiment is presented, where the meta‐system simultaneously serves as the direct digital modulator and the transmitting antenna. Owing to the low cost, high integration, and nearly passive and programmable features, the meta‐system has remarkable potential for future applications in wireless communications. Today, wireless communication systems need an antenna with a high gain, efficiency and beamsteering, as well as broadband capability, especially important in radar communications. The array antenna is commonly used in many applications due to its advantages, such as high gain and wide bandwidth. This paper presents an advanced design of a horizontally steerable planar antenna array intended for significant radar applications. A novel structure is used to create a compact array antenna of 8 × 3 elements. The design features a comprehensive 60° steering sector alongside a notable 12% bandwidth (4.45─5.42 GHz), using 8 × 3 planar array in an novel configuration. A three‐element series‐fed vertical array is utilized, employing aperture feeds with precisely sized patches to maximize performance. A detailed description of the design and refinement process of this array is presented, with emphasis on its exceptional capabilities for horizontal steering and bandwidth efficiency. By employing series‐fed vertical arrays with variable patch dimensions, we have successfully developed an antenna array that meets the stringent bandwidth requirements essential for radar technology, thereby enhancing the operational versatility of radar systems. This article presents the theoretical study, numerical simulation and fabrication of a phase shifter and a stub resonator for use in microstrip ridge gap waveguide (MRGW) technology, using a liquid crystal (LC) in the substrate as a reconfigurable material. The phase shifter and the stub resonator are filled with LC, and thanks to the LC's dielectric anisotropy properties, the phase shift and the resonance response can be easily controlled using an external electric or magnetic bias field. The phase shifter was designed to operate in the range of 10 to 20 GHz, and the resonator was designed to operate in the range of 7.8 to 8.8 GHz. The phase shifter's responses (including both phase shift and insertion losses), associated with both the parallel and perpendicular permittivity values of the LC, were computed and measured, and then the corresponding figure of merit (FoM) was extracted. The resonator's frequency responses, associated with both the LC's parallel and perpendicular permittivity, were computed. The resonator's frequency responses, which provided different polarization voltages, were measured and compared to the simulation results. All technological issues related to both prototypes are also discussed here. The good agreement between the simulation and measurement results confirm this technology as a viable approach to the practical implementation of these microwave reconfigurable devices. Commercial production of integrated photonic devices is limited by scalability of desirable material platforms. We explore a relatively new photonic material, AlScN, for its use in electro-optic phase shifting and modulation. Its CMOS-compatibility could facilitate large-scale production of integrated photonic modulators, and it exhibits an enhanced second-order optical nonlinearity compared to intrinsic AlN, indicating the possibility for efficient modulation. Here, we measure the electro-optic effect in Al0.80Sc0.20N-based phase shifters. We utilized the TM0 mode, allowing use of the r33 electro-optic coefficient, and demonstrated VπL around 750 V cm. This paper presents a 6-bit phase shifter operating in the 11∼13 GHz band. The designed phase shifter is fabricated using a 130-nm SOI process to validate its performance. For fine phase adjustment, the phase shifter employs six single-bit phase shifters ranging from 5.625° to 180°. To expand the bandwidth and minimize the phase and gain errors, the 90° bit uses low-pass and high-pass filters. Additionally, the 180° bit uses a transformer-based switch structure. The fabricated phase shifter measures 0.87×0.4 mm², with a return loss of more than 10 dB, an average insertion loss of 6.41 dB, RMS phase errors ranging from 3.19° to 4.13°, and RMS gain errors between 0.52 dB and 0.56 dB. This paper presents a novel design of a low-loss, reconfigurable broadband phase shifter based on groove gap waveguide (GGW) technology. The proposed phase shifter consists of a folded GGW and three bends with a few pins forming the GGW and one bend attached to a movable plate. This movable plate allows for adjustments to the folded waveguide length, consequently altering the phase of electromagnetic waves. The advantage of GGW technology is that it does not require electrical contact between different parts of a structure. Therefore, it enables the moving parts to slide freely without electromagnetic energy leakage, resulting in improved insertion loss in high-power applications. In addition, in the proposed design, the position of the input and output waveguide ports of the phase shifter remains fixed, which is advantageous from a practical point of view. As shown by measurement and simulation results, there is nearly 37% impedance bandwidth with the highest insertion loss of 0.6 dB, and the developed device has a maximum phase shift of 770° at the center frequency of 13 GHz. BaTiO3 thin films emerge as a highly promising material platform for integrated photonics due to their outstanding electro‐optic properties and diverse functionalities. Despite extensive studies, there remains a notable gap in the understanding of the intricate relationship between the phase structure, domain switching kinetics and electro‐optic performance of these materials. By controlling the structural phase evolution, it is possible to gain deep insights into the physical mechanisms underlying the electro‐optic performance. Here, the phase constitution of BaTiO3 epitaxial thin films is successfully tuned by the insertion of a GdScO3 buffer layer. Continuous polarization rotation paths are observed from an out‐of‐plane tetragonal‐like phase, to an intermediate rhombohedral‐like phase, and finally an in‐plane tetragonal‐like phase, achieving an enhanced effective electro‐optic coefficient of 175 pm V−1 compared to unbuffered films. Furthermore, by in situ second harmonic generation microscopy and electro‐optic measurements, the domain switching behaviors in both statistical and spatially resolved manners are examined, resulting in a clear delineation of the key domain nucleation processes. The in‐depth explorations of these structural mechanisms and kinetics inform the rational design of strong electro‐optic thin films and help in the realization of high‐performance integrated photonic devices such as electro‐optic modulators and multilevel phase shifters. This paper introduces compact Printed Ridge Gap Waveguide (PRGW) phase shifters tailored for millimeter-wave applications, with a focus on achieving wide operating bandwidth, and improved matching and phase balance compared to single-layer technology. This study proposes a unique approach to achieve the required phase shift in PRGW technology, which has not been previously explored. This study also introduces a novel analytical approach to calculate the cutoff frequency and propagation constant of the PRGW structure, a method not previously addressed. Furthermore, the utilization of multi-layer PRGW technology enables the realization of multi-layer beamforming networks without crossing, thereby supporting wideband operation in a compact size. The proposed design procedure enables the realization of various phase shift values ranging from 0 ∘ to 135 ∘ over a broad frequency bandwidth centered at 30 GHz. A 45-degree phase shifter is fabricated and tested, demonstrating a 10 GHz bandwidth (approximately 33% fractional bandwidth) from 25 GHz to 35 GHz. Throughout the operating bandwidth, the phase balance remains within 45 ± 5 ∘ , with a deep matching level of −20 dB. The proposed phase shifter exhibits desirable characteristics, such as compactness, low loss, and low dispersion, making it a suitable choice for millimeter-wave applications, including beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G wireless communications. Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has recently been considered as a potential technology for realizing ultra‐reliable and low‐latency (URLLC) in wireless networks. This paper proposes a resource optimization scheme to maximize the sum‐rate for an IRS‐assisted downlink multiuser multi‐input single‐output (MISO) URLLC system. For the perfect CSI scenario, we jointly optimize each user's block‐length and packet‐error probability, the precoding vectors at the base station (BS), and the passive beamforming with discrete phase shifts at the IRS. Given the problem's complexity, we design a computationally efficient iterative algorithm using successive convex approximation (SCA) and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) techniques to obtain a locally optimal solution. Specifically, for the imperfect CSI scenario, we construct a robust resource optimization problem model and incorporate the S‐procedure to address the impact of channel uncertainty, proposing an iterative algorithm based on the alternating optimization (AO) method to achieve a locally optimal solution. Simulation results demonstrate that: 1) An IRS equipped with a 2‐bit quantized resolution phase shifter is sufficient to achieve a system sum‐rate comparable to that of an ideal phase shifter; 2) Compared to other Baseline schemes, Algorithm 2 exhibits better robustness and superior performance gains under imperfect CSI. Butler Matrix networks are well established as beamforming networks for phased antenna arrays. The challenge we address in this work is to cover the entire (advanced 5G or 6G) FR3 band (7–24 GHz) with a single network, while retaining low losses and minimal size. The employed multilayer topology is also well established; however, the matching between the utilized hybrid couplers and the phase shifters constitutes a major challenge for such a wideband operation. This is achieved herein by employing meander lines with appropriate curvature and introducing two distinct design methods for the Butler Matrix. The first method focuses on designing individual components separately, followed by their integration into the overall Butler Matrix structure. This approach is demonstrated through the design, prototyping, measurements, and validation of an 8 × 8 Butler Matrix beamformer, which operates across the 6–16 GHz band (FR3 Low). The second method introduces a wideband-matching technique which simplifies the implementation process by designing the Butler Matrix as a single, unified structure. This technique is applied to both 4 × 4 and 8 × 8 Butler Matrices, which are implemented and simulated for the low FR3 band. Quantum photonic integrated circuits, composed of linear-optical elements, offer an efficient way for encoding and processing quantum information on-chip. At their core, these circuits rely on reconfigurable phase shifters, typically constructed from classical components such as thermo- or electro-optical materials, while quantum solid-state emitters such as quantum dots are limited to acting as single-photon sources. Here, we demonstrate the potential of quantum dots as reconfigurable phase shifters. We use numerical models based on established literature parameters to show that circuits utilizing these emitters enable high-fidelity operation and are scalable. Despite the inherent imperfections associated with quantum dots, such as imperfect coupling, dephasing, or spectral diffusion, we show that circuits based on these emitters may be optimized such that these do not significantly impact the unitary infidelity. Specifically, they do not increase the infidelity by more than 0.001 in circuits with up to 10 modes, compared to those affected only by standard nanophotonic losses and routing errors. For example, we achieve fidelities of 0.9998 in quantum-dot-based circuits enacting controlled-phase and – not gates without any redundancies. These findings demonstrate the feasibility of quantum emitter-driven quantum information processing and pave the way for cryogenically-compatible, fast, and low-loss reconfigurable quantum photonic circuits. A substrate-integrated cylindrical cavity (SICC) fed polarization flexible cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) is presented in this literature. To excite the CDRA, a unique and simple feeding approach based on substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) technology is demonstrated. This SICC is fed by two 50Ω microstrip lines, oriented orthogonally to each other. The SICC with a cross slot on its top metalized surface and the TM110 mode excites inside it act together to couple energy efficiently to the CDRA. Applying different phase combinations signals at the two input ports of the SICC, the CDRA can radiate in four different orientations linear polarization (LP) (along φ = 0°, 45°, −45°, and 90° ), left-handed circular polarization (LHCP), and right-handed circular polarization (RHCP). A conventional cylindrical dielectric resonator having relative permittivity ϵd = 10 is preferred. Its diameter, height, and cross-slot dimensions are optimized to operate the CDRA over Ku-band with 12% impedance bandwidth, 2-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 11%, and 3-dB gain bandwidth of 12%. In this operating band, CDRA resonates at three different higher-order modes (HEM32δ, HEM113, and HEM12δ+2) with 8 ± 1.6 dBi/dBic gain for all the polarization states. The evolution in wireless radio communication systems has fueled the development of array antenna designs toward the direction of inventive, economical, and outcome-driven solutions. This article explored unorthodox techniques for designing array antennas for multiple radiation pattern synthesis by eradicating the required attenuators and phase shifters. An economical alternate design model is proposed with "Time-modulated" antennas capable of scanning and steering the beam electronically. "Time" is employed as a four-dimensional antenna parameter, and hence, the "Time-modulated" antennas are referred to as four-dimensional (4D) antennas. The idea is conceptualized by controlling high-speed switches attached to the antennas in a periodic way to produce the desirable excitation and phase tapering. So, the requirement of costly phase shifters and attenuators is eliminated. This work expanded the idea of "Time-modulation" for synthesizing multiple radiating beams such as monopulse, scanned beams, and shaped beams for multifunction radar systems. An appropriate switch sequence is designed to produce a concurrent sum-difference pattern for monopulse radars. Simultaneous scanning patterns and shaped flat-top patterns are also proposed for multifunction radars. To achieve the goals, two sets of 4D linear arrays are designed and the modulation parameters switch ON time and periods are optimized with a quasi-Newton memetic GA (Genetic algorithm). In this paper, two orthogonally placed Vivaldi antennas with a septum-like polarizer to generate circular polarized (CP) waves are presented. Septum polarizers have garnered attention due to their simple structure and high quality of CP waves. While a typical septum polarizer has been applied to various types of waveguides, its applicability to the substrate integrated Vivaldi antenna is demonstrated here for the first time. A pulse train-shaped polarizer is used, which is placed on one of the two Vivaldi antennas. The contours of the polarizer are optimized using a genetic algorithm to provide an equal amplitude and 90° phase difference between the two orthogonal electric fields. In contrast to typical feed networks with a 90° phase shifter, any unwanted loss caused by an electronic circuit can be greatly mitigated. In this letter, a low‐cost and easy‐to‐embed 7‐bit 360° phase shifter with transitions is presented for applications to beamforming in the large‐scale phased array. In the proposed 360° phase shifter, the topology of the reflection‐type phase shifter (RTPS) is employed, composed of a 3‐dB branchline coupler terminated with two tunable parallel L–C loads. First, a two‐step phase extraction process for RTPS is applied to design the RTPS rapidly with competitive performance, including 360° phase range and low insertion loss. A huge amount of parameter sweep is reduced in the design and test. Meanwhile, the parameter of inductors in the tunable loads is investigated effectively, to achieve the minimal phase step. Second, aiming at the enhanced performance of beamforming and improved flexibility of integration, the stripline is adopted in the design of the phase shifter, avoiding the interference on antenna radiation effectively. To facilitate the integration with antenna and radio frequency connectors of the input and output signals, a stripline‐to‐microstrip line transition with electromagnetic bandgap structures is adopted. By this means, the complexity and cost of fabrication are decreased. Finally, fabricated in the low‐cost printed circuit board technology, our proof‐of‐concept design operated from 2.4 to 2.5 GHz is measured and achieves a 386.8° phase shift range with an insertion loss of 2.21 ± 0.82 dB at 2.45 GHz. This work demystifies the role that packaging boundary conditions (both physically and electromagnetically) can play in a nematic liquid crystal (NLC)-based inverted microstrip (IMS) phase shifter device operating at the 60 GHz band (from 54 GHz to 66 GHz). Most notably, the air box radiating boundary and perfect electric conductor (PEC) enclosing boundary are numerically examined and compared statistically for convergence, scattering parameters, and phase-shift-to-insertion-loss ratio, i.e., figure-of-merit (FoM). Notably, the simulated phase tunability of the radiating air box boundary structure is 8.26°/cm higher than that of the encased (enclosed) PEC boundary structure at 60 GHz. However, the maximum insertion loss of the encased PEC structure is 0.47 dB smaller compared to that of the radiant air box boundary structure. This results in an FoM increase of 29.26°/dB at the enclosed PEC limit (relative to the less-than-optimal airbox radiation limit). Arguably, the NLC-filled IMS phase shifter device packaging with metals fully enclosed (in addition to the default ground plane) enhances the symmetry of the structure, both in the geometry and the materials system. In electromagnetic parlance, it contributes to a more homogenously distributed electric field and a more stable monomodal transmission environment with mitigated radiation and noise. Practically, the addition of the enclosure to the well-established NLC-IMS planar fabrication techniques provides a feasible manufacturing (assembling) solution to acquire the reasonably comparable performance advantage exhibited by non-planar structures, e.g., a fully enclosed strip line and rectangular coaxial line, which are technically demanding to manufacture with NLC. Frequency‐sweeping laser sources play a critical role in the accurate 3D mapping of frequency‐modulated continuous‐wave (FMCW) LiDAR systems, whose chirp linearity greatly impacts the measurement precision. Although various pre‐distortion algorithms have been proposed to reduce chirp nonlinearity, these open‐loop methods can rapidly suppress the chirp nonlinearity but they are susceptible to environmental variations and often exhibit subpar performance in long‐range detection scenarios. In contrast, the electro–optical phase‐locked loop (EO‐PLL) serves as a real‐time linearizing solution for FMCW LiDAR, enabling high‐precision, high‐resolution, and long‐distance measurement capabilities. In this study, a III/V‐Si3N4 hybrid‐integrated external cavity laser (ECL) is used to generate an FMCW signal over a large wavelength tuning range of 68 nm. The maximum output optical power is 15.8 mW, and the intrinsic linewidth is 0.9 kHz. By modulating the phase shifter, an FMCW signal with a chirp bandwidth of 0.7 GHz is generated at a repetition rate of 1 kHz. In today's electric power network, fast changes are the norm, and auxiliary services such as automatic generation control (AGC) play a crucial role in maintaining the quality of the power supply. AGC ensures a balance between power generation, demand, and losses to sustain frequency stability and variation in tie‐line power within a set limit, even when the load changes. To accomplish this, it is always beneficial to consider new approaches to controlling the situation. This paper introduces the design of new AGC regulators that consider deviation in DC tie‐line power as an extra control variable for the turbine controller. In this study, three different deregulated power systems (containing two control areas), namely three thermal generations, the combination of one thermal and two hydro generations, and three hydro generations, including two power distribution companies (DISCOs) in each control area. These optimal AGC regulators are implemented in the proposed thermal–thermal–thermal system to carry out the various power contracts. The results have shown that the dynamic outcomes meet the AGC standards. To improve further dynamic results and the proposed systems' stability margins by incorporating redox flow batteries (RFB). In actual operating conditions, the system parameters do not remain constant due to the aging effect, assumptions made in simplifying the mathematical model, etc. Thus, ±50% deviations in the nominal value of system parameters to assess how well the optimal AGC regulators perform in the system under investigation. The suggested realistic AGC system incorporates many parameter fluctuations and works well with the optimal AGC regulators developed for the proposed plans. This study expanded to include a two‐area, thermal‐hydro‐hydro (THH) system under a deregulated framework connected via an asynchronous transmission link with or without a thyristor‐controlled phase shifter (TCPS) and RFB. The genetic algorithm (GA) can solve many issues and has global search, flexibility to varied problem types, intrinsic parallelism, and the ability to handle massive, complex search spaces. Thus, a two‐area deregulated hydro‐hydro‐hydro system with parallel tie‐lines utilizes GA‐PID, GA‐FOPID, and GA‐(1 + PI)‐FOPID controllers. Moreover, a random load disturbance (RLD) is employed in each section of the offered approach to show the resilience and elite performance of the proposed control strategy.
