This study aimed at exploring teachers' perceptions of reflective teaching strategies in their teaching practice and the barriers that hinder the implementation of reflective teaching strategies. Quantitative and qualitative data were obtained by using a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The study took place in the context of high schools in most of the provinces in the Mekong Delta. The respondents involved in this research were fifty English as a foreign language (EFL) high-school teachers. The results revealed that most teachers have positive perceptions of the significance of reflective teaching strategies in their teaching. At the same time, the participants found barriers preventing them from implementing reflective teaching strategies in their language teaching such as lack of awareness of reflective teaching strategies, time or workload limitations as well as some obstacles related to the application of peer observation as a strategy of the reflective process. Finally, accordingly, the findings gained from two types of research tools, some pedagogical implications, and research suggestions on the effectiveness of EFL teachers' application of self-reflection strategies in the teaching-learning process were proposed in the study. more...

In light of Freire Today, this paper aims to present the results from a case study in Vietnam about the teachers’ perception of education with the recognized signals of being oppressed and the oppressors in their teaching. This study was conducted to clarify the problems preventing education to be developed in this context with the participants from 3 provinces in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The qualitative data was collected through using a mixture of 7 interviews and 10 opened-question surveys due to the geographical difficulties. The data collection was framed by using the Padilla’s (1994) techniques of unfolding matrix for data analysis. The findings show that the authoritarian education remains unchanged or slowly transformed with the signals of the teachers as both the oppressors to their learners and the oppressed in their working system. This paper investigates the issues of education and integration conditions for Vietnamese immigrants’ children in Poland. These points of interest were primarily treated as the additional research connected with our teaching practices. It was conducted as an empirical study with three non-standardised interviews with the families, informal observations, and group discussions. Regardless of the limitation of a perhaps not significantly substantial range of data, the study led to the outlining of some concerns connected with the process of education and integration of the children in these Vietnamese families. The main four findings which are related to the research question are: the cultural differences and expectations of the parents, the language barriers of the parents, the typical stereotypes of educating children at home, and the conflicts of self-identification in the future. Online collaborative learning has widely become one of the trends in the pedagogical context, especially in tertiary education, but it still has advantages and drawbacks. Thus, this research introduced online collaborative learning in the course of a translation to explore its benefits and challenges from the perceptions of EFL translators'-to-be. The study employed the descriptive research with the semi-structured interview and a 35-item questionnaire used to collect data from 156 participants majoring in English Translation and Interpretation. The findings showed that online collaborative translation gave students opportunities (1) to develop hard skills related to translation competence, knowledge, and self-direct learning; (2) to improve soft skills such as abilities for operating a computer or laptop, information searching skills as well as communication skills; and (3) to study from home and save money and time for traveling. However, poor time management and technical problems such as unstable Internet connection were seen as common challenges. Besides, in this study, two new challenges were recognized, namely members' idiosyncrasy giving rise to an argument among students, and the overuse of the computer-assisted translation, Google Translate. By and large, during the process of collaborative translation in the online environment, benefits outweighed challenges, and students had positive outlooks on this activity.
