Biodegradable periodic mesoporous organosilica (BPMO) nanoparticles have emerged as a promising type of nanocarrier for drug delivery, given the biodegradable feature is advantageous for clinical translation. In this paper, we report synthesis and characterization of daunorubicin (DNR) loaded BPMO. DNR was loaded onto rhodamine B‐labeled BPMO that contain tetrasulfide bonds. Tumor spheroids and chicken egg tumor models were used to characterize the activity in biological settings. In the first experiment we examined the uptake of BPMO into tumor spheroids prepared from ovarian cancer cells. BPMO were efficiently taken up into tumor spheroids and inhibited their growth. In the chicken egg tumor model, intravenous injection of DNR‐loaded BPMO led to the elimination of ovarian tumor. Lack of adverse effect on organs such as lung appears to be due to excellent tumor accumulation of BPMO. Thus, DNR‐loaded BPMO represents a promising nanodrug compared with free DNR currently used in cancer therapy. OK, Rhodamine B‐labelled biodegradable periodic mesoporous organosilica (BPMO) containing tetrasulfide units were investigated by tumor spheroid and chicken egg models. These models are affordable, time‐saving and easy to scale up approaches for the evaluation of drug delivery systems such as BPMO nanoparticles. The results show excellent tumor accumulation of BMPO and dramatic tumor inhibition in the presence of daunorubicin‐loaded BPMO.

In this paper, we investigate the spin state of the Fe3O cluster from MIL-100(Fe), each Fe site of which possesses either one unpaired electron, three unpaired electrons, or five unpaired electrons. Total energies with respect to different spin states were optimized with the PBE, B3LYP, HF, and MP2 methods in combination with various basis sets (6-31G, 6-31G*, 6-311G(d,p)) for non-metal ions and pseudopotentials for Fe (SDD and LanL2DZ). The results of B3LYP, MP2, and HF methods predicted that each Fe site had five unpaired electrons in the most stable spin state. However, the results of PBE show two opposite cases. In one case, PBE predicted each Fe had one unpaired electron, while in the remaining PBE cases, each Fe site was predicted to exhibit five unpaired electrons. We finally conclude the Fe3O cluster with 15 unpaired electrons is the most stable structure.

The 12th National Conference on Solid State Physics and Materials Science (SPMS2021) gathered various notable scientists (7 plenary speakers and 34 invited speakers). Attending the conference and actively participating in the debate were more than 450 scholars with an interest in the topic. Four hundred reports were divided into five specialized sessions, including (A) physics and magnetic materials, (B) semiconductor and dielectric physics, (C) semiconductor and dielectric materials and devices, (D) biomedical materials and materials for agriculture, energy, and the environment, and (E) composite materials - metals, ceramics, and Vietnam-Korea sessions on applied physics. In addition, the Organizing Committee received numerous full-text reports that had been submitted to the Journal of Science and Technology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) following a rigorous review procedure. SPMS2021 co-organized by the Vietnam Physical Society, the Vietnam Materials Research Society (V-MRS), the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Materials Science (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University (VNU), Phenikaa University, and Can Tho University was held on 13 – 15 August 2022 in Can Tho City after nearly 9 months of postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference has attracted 7 plenary speakers, 34 invited speakers, and over 450 scientists (Figure 1, Table 1, and Table 2) 1. It is not only a sizable and esteemed scientific conference that draws the interest of the Vietnamese scientific community, but it is also a venue for getting together, exchanging ideas, and disseminating the most recent advancements in the SPMS sector. Since 1995, it has been conducted continuously every two years. Many scientists are generally interested in the domains of solid-state physics and materials science, which have a wide range of activities and exceptional accomplishments in both basics and applications in Vietnam.

ZnO is a promising photocatalyst for photocatalytic oxidation of organic compounds under the influence of sunlight that provides clean energy and decomposes sustainable organic pollutants substances. ZnO is found to have non-toxic properties, long-term stability, high carrier mobility, low cost and biocompatibility. However, some disadvantages of ZnO limit its use in photocatalysis. Due to its wide bandgap, ZnO can only be activated under UV illumination. On the other hand, the photo-excited electron-hole pairs that recombine quickly on ZnO surface, suppress its photocatalytic properties. To improve its properties and performance, doping with transition metals was used to improve the optical properties of ZnO. Among the transition metal ions, Manganese (Mn) was commonly used to improve and tune the optical, electrical, diameter, height, and the number of nanorods (NRs) per unit area. Introduction of Mn into ZnO could enhance the photocatalytic activity due to the increase in the defect sites that effectively decreased the recombination of free electrons and holes. This study successfully synthesized ZnO nanorod arrays generated on glass substrates with different concentrations of doping Mn (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2%) at 100 °C by a simple hydrothermal method. To investigate the structure, morphology and optical properties, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were conducted. With the range of Mn doping ≤ 2% mol, the band gap reduced slightly, and the most optimized Mn doping concentration was of 0.5%. Overall, this work shows that the most effective way to increase ZnO’s photocatalytic activity in the visible region by reducing its band gap was the reduction in the size of the material or denaturation of ZnO by certain metals or non-metals.
