Aims: Dentophobia is a well‐know kind of phobia and psychological problem in dentistry. Although patients might suffer from severe oral pain and have serious health complications, dentophobia is still posing a threat to oral healthcare and remains an unresolved worldwide phenomenon. According to estimates, up to 80% of the general population are affected by this condition. Dentophobia is an unpleasant problem with serious consequences not only for patients but also for dentists and the public health system in general. This umbrella review provides a comprehensive overview of the various aspects of dentophoia as addressed in the published literature, and the current level of knowledge concerning their treatment. Methods and results: Based on 35 reviews of the published literature, addressing various aspects of dentophobia and published between 2008 and 2021, this umbrella review was written. The search was based on the PubMed and PsycINFO databases. The extraction was structured by open coding and each aspect of the subject analyzed according to Ritchie and Lewis. Conclusion: We conclude that the evidence concerning the efficacy of the various interventions is still rather weak and there is an obvious need for further research, because of the yet and unresolved challenges and the lack of standardised guidelines to deal with patients with dentophobia. Purpose: Multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) is a rare immune-mediated neuropathy causing progressive, asymmetric weakness without sensory loss. Long-term administration of intravenous (IVIg) or subcutaneous (SCIg) immunoglobulins is the primary therapeutic approach. Despite this, therapy failure can result in a decline in strength, particularly in the hands, impacting daily activities. This review and case report presents the current literature on this complex dental and medical topic and explores the novel use of dental implants for full-mouth rehabilitation in MMN patients undergoing long-term IVIg therapy., Materials and Methods: A patient with MMN underwent 15 years of long-term treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg), starting with an initial dose of 0.4 g/kg for 5 days every 4 months in 2008. The maintenance dosage of 0.2 g/kg as a single dose every 3 months was established as a long-term therapy. In 2017, the patient received a maxillary and mandibular complete-arch implant-supported prosthesis., Results: MMN showed no progression until the IVIg interval was extended to every 4 months in 2022. Significant deterioration in dental health resulted from a loss of right-hand dexterity, which affected toothbrush use and interproximal brushing, resulting in poor oral hygiene. Dental hygiene and dental health, which were not optimal anyway, were considerably worsened by the loss of dexterity in the right hand, which impaired the use of the toothbrush and the cleaning of the interdental spaces., Conclusion: Dental implants are a well-established treatment for edentulous patients, but their success in those with MMN requires careful consideration of oral health practices. Effective maintenance protocols and optimised prosthetic designs are crucial for long-term implant therapy success in MMN patients. Peri-implant diseases pose risks influenced by various factors. In the case of MMN and its neurological considerations, implications for dental implant provision warrant further exploration, considering clinical symptoms, therapy, and potential progression.

Introduction: Digital panoramic radiographs (DPRs) are used in dental practice as the first diagnostic tool for the initial detection of head and neck regions soft-tissue calcifications. The aim of this study was to use a self-developed application (App) to evaluate the ability of dental students at different levels of training to examine known DPRs with different soft-tissue calcification., Methods: A total of known 100 DPRs with ( n =50) and without ( n =50) calcification were independently evaluated by four groups: preclinical, first clinical and last clinical dental students, and dentists with less than or equal to 1 year of professional experience in the same time (15 min) and examination conditions. Unity software was used to develop the examination App, which allowed to mark areas with calcifications on the DPRs. The data were statistically analyzed between the groups (significance level: P <0.05) for every location, and the detection rate was calculated as a percentage of detected calcifications., Results: Results revealed that the overall detection rate of calcifications in all groups was 29.17%. Dentists exhibited the highest detection rate (36.46%), followed by the last- (29.69%), first- (32.29%), and preclinical (15.10%) students., Conclusion: These findings suggest that clinical experience plays a role in the correct detection of soft-tissue calcifications in DPRs. However, deficiencies in radiological training during dental education may contribute to diagnostic errors. Introduction: Osteoporosis (OP) is a bone disease linked to low bone mass and heightened fracture risk. Apical periodontitis (AP) is an inflammation of the apical periodontium, visible on radiographs, often associated with infection or necrosis of the root canal system. Both conditions, AP and OP, share inflammation and ageing as common factors, warranting exploration of their potential interactions. This study examined the association between AP and endodontically treated/non-treated teeth in patients with OP in Lower Austria., Methods: The authors included 425 patients (7924 examined teeth) aged over 60 years (average age 68±10 years) with 208 patients (3537 examined teeth) [179 women (3027 teeth) and 29 men (510 teeth)] initially diagnosed and treated for OP and a corresponding control group with 217 patients (4387 examined teeth) [187 women (3781 teeth) and 30 men (606 teeth)] without an OP diagnosis. For the diagnosis of AP, the panoramic radiographs and medical history taken at the initial presentation were analysed., Results: In patients treated for OP, AP was diagnosed as follows: in 134 (26%) treated and 234 (9%) non-treated teeth among women (511 treated/2516 non-treated teeth) and in 23 (27%) treated and 50 (11%) non-treated teeth among men (83 treated/427 non-treated teeth). The control group without OP consisted of: women (569 treated/ 3212 non-treated teeth) in 147 (25%) treated and 403 (12%) non-treated teeth; men (77 treated/ 529 non-treated teeth) 17 (22%) treated and 29 (6%) non-treated teeth.When comparing AP in endodontically treated teeth according to sex, no statistically significant differences were observed between patients with and without OP ( P >0.05). Autologous tooth transplantation is the transplantation of an erupted, partially erupted, or unerupted tooth from one site to another in an individual. This is expected to maintain alveolar bone volume through physiological stimulation of the periodontal ligament (PDL). Tooth transplantation can be used for the closure of oroantral communication. As a simple, useful, and minimally invasive method, it should be considered a surgical option when a donor tooth is available in indicated cases. Herein, the authors report the case of a 20-year-old female patient whose left permanent maxillary first molar had to be extracted due to a longitudinal fracture and radicular cyst in the maxillary sinus floor. After the extraction, tooth 28 was exposed through an osteotomy and positioned in the gap. Nineteen years later, the autologous grafted tooth 28 could no longer be retained due to massive external resorption and was replaced by an implant. Human PDL stem cells can differentiate into bone-, fiber-, and cementum-forming cells and have the potential to build a PDL complex. Therefore, care must be taken to avoid damaging the PDL of the donor tooth during extraction. Autotransplanted teeth are expected to retain the alveolar bone volume. This case demonstrates the use of a transplanted tooth 28 for the treatment of a maxillary defect caused by the extraction of tooth 26 and removal of a radicular cyst.
