2. Pneumonia and in-hospital mortality after renal transplantation

Introduction/Objective. Pneumonias remain one of the most frequent reasons for morbidity and mortality in the group of kidney recipients. The objective of the study was to define the factors associated with a higher risk for in-hospital mortality from pneumonia after renal transplantations. Methods. A total of 124 patients with kidney transplants hospitalized with pneumonia for the period of nine years were studied. Different noninvasive and invasive diagnostic tests were used. Results. Forty-one of the patients died as a result of pneumonia or related complications during their hospital stay. The factors associated with the increased risk for in-hospital mortality were as follows: the development of pneumonia during the early postoperative period (during the first month after surgery) (HR = 2.027; p = 0.025) or between the first and sixth month after surgery (HR = 2.303; p = 0.026), dyspnoea (HR = 2.184; p = 0.007) and hypoxemia (HR = 2.261; p = 0.003). The presence of bilateral infiltrates (HR = 2.482; p = 0.001), failure of initial antibiotic therapy (HR = 3.548; p < 0.001), intubation and mechanical ventilation (HR = 4.635; p < 0.001) also increased the risk for the fatal outcome. Conclusion. Knowing the prognostic factors associated with the increased risk for in-hospital fatal outcome from pneumonia after renal transplantation makes it possible to differentiate the high-risk group of renal recipients who require early etiological diagnosis and strict control of the condition, in order to reduce the mortality from pulmonary infections in the group.

3. Modern carbonate formation in low-mineralized flowing waters

Continental carbonate formation in low-mineralized flowing waters of temperate latitude is rare phenomenon. Taking this into account a study was conducted of crustate and stalactite-like authigenic calcite aggregates formed in the thalwegs of the ravines of the Volga Upland. According to chemical and isotopic analysis, modern carbonates are formed from poorly mineralized, meteoric waters of medium hardness, hydrocarbonate-magnesium-calcium hydrochemical type. It has been established that newly formed carbonate aggregates are characterized by the predominance of lightweight carbon and oxygen in the crystal structure. The osmotic hypothesis of the formation of lime-calcite aggregates is proposed.

4. Electric bus in Tyumen: the chase for trends and problems of exploitation

The article considers the issues of the progressive development of electric transport in the world and in Russia. The special accent was placed on analysis of electric buses promotion for the city passenger transport market. The history (facts, chronology) of attempts of electric buses exploitation in Russian cities is considered. The information about the technical solutions used in electric buses is given. Data on the economic aspects of electric buses exploitation is presented. We consider the experience of technical exploitation of electric bus LiAZ-6274 in Tyumen and provide information about specifics of technical rejections of this bus during 11 months of usage. President of GAZ Group V. Sorokin and driver of Passenger Motor Transport Enterprise № 1 in Tyumen who worked on the electrical bus gave their opinion on the issues of electric transport in Russia. In conclusion, advantages and drawbacks of electric buses exploitation in Russia at the current moment are considered.

5. Influence of regional features of psycho- emotional state of the Russian society on road accidents severity

The article considers issues of assessment of the relation between road accidents severity and psychoemotional state of Russian society. In the context of the hypothesis about the significant impact of people’s awareness of the value of life on their ordinary behavior, four subtasks were solved. Firstly, the difference in road accidents severity between all road accidents and road accidents that happened in alcohol intoxication state was established. Secondly, indicators of the psychoemotional state of people from different Russian regions were identified. Thirdly, dependencies «Road accidents severity = f(Psychoemotional state of people from Russian region)» for two cases - «All road accidents» and «Road accidents that happened in alcohol intoxication state» were defined. Finally, it was found that degree of impact of alcohol intoxication on road accidents severity depends on the psychoemotional state of people from different Russian regions. Produced results can be used in the development of regional programs of road safety management taking into account features of the psychoemotional background in different subjects of Russia.

6. Economics of high-rise construction: the feasibility of skyscrapers building in the Russian cities

The article considers the economic aspects of constructing high-rise buildings in the world and in Russia. Data on the number of high-rise buildings in Russian cities with a million population are presented. It is proved that interest in high-rise construction in Russia has been formed only in Moscow and partly in St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. The analysis showed that the reason for this is the expensiveness of high-rise construction. According to the enlarged macro-calculation, the cost of building 1 m2 of the area of the Federation Towers complex (Moscow City) is about 2710 $/m2. Practically a possibility of return on investments in the foreseeable time interval exists only in Moscow. For the regions of Russia this task is rather complicated. Population density in regional Russian cities is quite low, business entities do not have the necessary financial resources for investing in high-rise construction, and investments from abroad absent.

- Abstract
The calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) gene encodes a cell membrane G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) which has a key role in maintaining the extracellular Ca
2+ homeostasis. We aimed at correcting the compound heterozygous mutation in the 6th [c.1656delA, p.I554SfsX73] and 7th [c.2217 T > A, p.C739X] exons of the CASR gene which the original patient-derived iPSC line had. The mutation is associated with neonatal severe primary hyperparathyroidism of the patient. We generated and characterized a CRISP/Cas9-edited hiPSC line with the restored sequence in the sixth exon of the CASR gene, bearing only heterozygous mutation in the 7th exon. The results showed that the new genetically modified cell line has karyotype without abnormalities, typical hiPSCs morphology, characteristic expression of pluripotency markers, and ability to develop into three germ layers, and differentiates in chondrogenic, adipogenic, osteogenic directions. This new cell line will complement the existing pool of CaSR-mutated cell lines, a valuable resource for in-depth understanding of neonatal severe primary hyperparathyroidism. This will allow further exploration of the application of pharmacological drugs in the context of personalized medicine to correct Ca-homeostasis disorders., (© 2024. - Abstract
Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is an autoimmune disease caused by the destruction of insulin-producing β-cells in the pancreas by cytotoxic T-cells. To date, there are no drugs that can prevent the development of T1D. Insulin replacement therapy is the standard care for patients with T1D. This treatment is life-saving, but is expensive, can lead to acute and long-term complications, and results in reduced overall life expectancy. This has stimulated the research and development of alternative treatments for T1D. In this review, we consider potential therapies for T1D using cellular regenerative medicine approaches with a focus on CRISPR/Cas-engineered cellular products. However, CRISPR/Cas as a genome editing tool has several drawbacks that should be considered for safe and efficient cell engineering. In addition, cellular engineering approaches themselves pose a hidden threat. The purpose of this review is to critically discuss novel strategies for the treatment of T1D using genome editing technology. A well-designed approach to β-cell derivation using CRISPR/Cas-based genome editing technology will significantly reduce the risk of incorrectly engineered cell products that could behave as a "Trojan horse".

10. Natural Fibrous Materials Based on Fungal Mycelium Hyphae as Porous Supports for Shape-Stable Phase-Change Composites.

- Abstract
Adsorption of organic phase-change materials (PCMs) by the porous matrix of microfibrillar cellulose (MFC) is a simple and versatile way to prepare shape-stable phase-change composites, which are promising as sustainable thermoregulating additives to construction materials. However, due to MFC inherent morphology, the resulting composites have relatively low poured density that complicates their introduction in sufficient amounts, for instance, into mortar mixes. Unlike MFC, fungal mycelium has, by an order, less fibrils thickness and, thus, possesses significantly higher poured density. Herein, we studied the feasibility of fungal mycelium-based matrices as alternative biopolymeric porous supports for preparation of sustainable and shape-stable phase-change composites. Two methods were employed to prepare the porous mycelium-based supports. The first one was the solid-state fermentation, which resulted in partial biotransformation of MFCs to mycelium hyphae, while the second one was the liquid-state surface fermentation, used to cultivate the reference matrix of Trametes hirsuta hyphae. The phase-change composites were prepared by adsorption of model organic PCMs on porous biopolymer matrices. The mass ratio of support/PCM was 40/60 wt%. The composites were studied with respect to their structure, composition, poured density, latent heat storage properties, and thermal and shape stability. The employment of the partially transformed to mycelium-hyphae MFC fibers was found to be a suitable way to prepare phase-change composites with improved poured density while preserving a reasonable latent heat capacity and shape stability as compared to the MFC/PCM composites.

11. Exoskeleton gait training with spinal cord neuromodulation.

- Abstract
Neuromodulating the locomotor network through spinal cord electrical stimulation (SCES) is effective for restoring function in individuals with gait deficits. However, SCES alone has limited effectiveness without concurrent locomotor function training that enhances activity-dependent plasticity of spinal neuronal networks by sensory feedback. This mini review discusses recent developments in using combined interventions, such as SCES added to exoskeleton gait training (EGT). To develop personalized therapies, it is crucial to assess the state of spinal circuitry through a physiologically relevant approach that identifies individual characteristics of spinal cord function to develop person-specific SCES and EGT. 12. Modeling Asymmetry of a Current-Voltage Curve of a Novel MF-4SC/PTMSP Bilayer Membrane.

A novel bilayer cation-exchange membrane-consisting of a thick layer of a pristine perfluorinated membrane MF-4SC (Russian equivalent of Nafion
® -117) and a thinner layer (1 μm) of the membrane, on a base of glassy polymer of internal microporosity poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP)-was prepared and characterized. Using the physicochemical characteristics of one-layer membranes MF-4SC and PTMSP in 0.05 M HCl and NaCl solutions, the asymmetric current-voltage curves (CVC) of the bilayer composite were described with good accuracy up to the overlimiting regime, based on the "fine-porous membrane" model. The MF-4SC/PTMSP bilayer composite has a significant asymmetry of CVC that is promising for using it in electromembrane devices, such as membrane detectors, sensors, and diodes.- Published

13. Nanoscale Functional Additives Application in the Low Temperature Greases.

- Abstract
Due to the fact that the application of AW and EP additives in low-temperature greases may lead to worse high-temperature and anti-corrosion characteristics as well as additional burden on the environment due to the content of aggressive components, in this paper, the possibility of replacing these additives with NFA, which do not have these disadvantages, was investigated. The analysis of nanosized particles being used as functional additives in greases was carried out. The morphology of the following nanoparticles was studied: montmorillonite K 10, silica, calcium car-bonate and borate, halloysite, and molybdenum disulfide incorporated in halloysite tubes. The effect of nanostructured components on the physicochemical characteristics and anti-wear and anti-scuffing properties of complex lithium, polyurea, and polymer greases were studied. Maximal improvement of anti-wear and anti-scuffing characteristics of cLi-greases was reached when using silica and calcium borate. Maximal improvement of anti-scuffing properties of PU-lubricant was reached when using calcium carbonate and the two-component NFA based on halloysite, for anti-wear properties when adding silicon dioxide and halloysite. When the concentrations of silicon dioxide and calcium carbonate was increased from 1 to 3 wt.%, there was a decrease in yield stress of the structural frame of the PU-lubricant and its colloidal stability was worse. The increase of the concentration of calcium carbonate and borate nanoparticles in the studied range led to a significant improvement of the anti-wear and anti-scuffing characteristics of the PU grease, respectively. The greases properties' dependence from the nanostructured functional additives' introduction method and their concentration were investigated. Nanoparticles were added into the test lubricants before and after the thermo-mechanical dispersion stage. The addition of silicon dioxide and calcium carbonate NFA after the heat treatment stage led to worsening of the characteristics of the plastic material, and the increase of their concentration from 1 to 3 wt.% formed a harder structure of Li-grease. On the contrary, the addition of calcium borate NFA is recommended after the thermomechanical dispersion. The choice of nanoparticles and the method of their addition to the lubricants of various types was carried out according to the results of the previous stage of the research. Along with the analysis of the physicochemical characteristics and anti-wear and anti-scuffing properties of the lubricants, the structure of the dispersion phase of nanomodified lubricants were studied.

- Abstract
A novel anaerobic, endospore-forming bacterium (strain M08 DMB
T ) was isolated from a terrestrial mud volcano (Taman Peninsula, Russia). Cells of the strain were motile rods 1.3-2.0 µm long and 0.4 µm in diameter. The temperature range for growth was 5-42 °C, with an optimum at 30 °C. The pH range for growth was H 6.5-11.0, with an optimum at pH 8.0. Growth of strain M08 DMBT was observed at NaCl concentrations of 0-5.0 % (w/v) with an optimum at 1.0 %. Strain M08 DMBT utilized 3,4-dimethoxybenzoic acid, 2-methoxyphenol, carbon monoxide, glucose, fructose, mannose, xylose and yeast extract. The end product of glucose fermentation was acetate. The DNA G+C content of strain M08 DMBT was 32.3 mol% (obtained via whole genome sequencing). The closest phylogenetic relative of strain M08 DMBT was Alkalibaculum bacchi (family Eubacteriaceae , class Clostridia ) with 95.17 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. Based on the phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic characteristics of the isolate, strain M08 DMBT is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Alkalibaculum , for which the name Alkalibaculum sporogenes sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Alkalibaculum sporogenes is M08 DMBT (=KCTC 15840T =VKM B-3387T ).- Published

15. Quality of Preovulatory (GV) Oocytes in Mice after Injection of eCG at Various Stages of the Estrous Cycle.

We studied the influence of the estrous cycle on the morphology of preovulatory (germinal vesicle, GV) oocytes in mice and their capacity to meiotic maturation in vitro. After standard injections of eCG gonadotropin (PMSG, Follimag) to females at different stages of the estrous cycle, the maximum levels of GV oocytes (26±1/mouse) were isolated from the ovaries of animals injected with the hormone during estrus. The capacity of isolated GV oocytes to meiotic maturation in vitro decreased in the following order: estrus (75.5±2.3%), metestrus (67.9±3.4%), proestrus (57.8±4.4%), and diestrus (50.6±5.6%); the differences between estrus and diestrus/proestrus were significant (p<0.05). After eCG injections during estrus, GV oocytes differed from other oocytes by lesser total diameter, lesser diameter of cytoplasm, lesser thickness of zona pellucida, and moderately dilated perivitelline space. These signs reflected higher competence of the "estrous" GV oocytes for meiotic maturation in vitro. Hormone stimulation of females with eCG, with consideration for the stage of the estrous cycle, seems to be an effective method for improving the quality of GV oocytes isolated from mouse ovaries.

The study examined maturation of preovulatory germinal vesicles oocytes (GV oocytes) induced by gonadotropic hormone PMSG in the inbred C57Bl/6J mice (viewed as a gold standard for diverse biomedical studies) as well as in the first generation hybrid C57Bl/6J×СВА/lac and СВА/lac×C57Bl/6J mice at various ages. The most effective donors of GV oocytes were СВА/lac×C57Bl/6J mice (F1 hybrids) yielding 25±2 oocyte/mouse. In contrast, a significantly smaller number of GV oocytes can be isolated from the ovaries of female C57Bl/6J or C57Bl/6J×СВА/lac mice under the same conditions. At this, the greatest number of GV oocytes (42±4) can be retrieved from the ovaries of immature hybrid СВА/lac×C57Bl/6J mice aged 4 weeks. These mice demonstrated the largest share of GV oocytes, which attained MII stage during in vitro culturing. The data conclude that F1 hybrid СВА/lac×C57Bl/6J mice can be viewed as a handy experimental source yielding a large number of GV oocytes capable of meiotic maturation in a culture.

17. Thermodynamic Calculations to Determine the Optimal Composition of Oxide Catalysts.

- Abstract
Thermodynamic calculations of the optimal compositions of oxide catalysts with different natures are performed based on the theory of catalysis by polyhedra. The obtained compositions of the active catalysts agree with experimental data. The electrostatic potential generated by polyhedra of metal-oxide catalysts in a variety of directions is calculated. The dependence of the sign and magnitude of the potential on the distance from the central metal ion towards the vertex of the polyhedron, the middle of its edge or the centre of the face is estimated. It is assumed that the magnitude of the potential can serve as a reference point for determining active centres, which produce adsorption complexes and intermediate compounds., (© 2018 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Sixty six isolates were screened for ability of bioethanol production; dynamics of product accumulation and substrate utilization were investigated for two selected strains Trametes hirsuta MT-24.24 and Trametes versicolor IT-1. The strains’ efficiency was evaluated as bioethanol production by 1 g biomass. Strain T. versicolor IT-1 producing over 33 g/L of the ethanol for 9 d was selected. Direct conversion of Na-carboxymethyl cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose and straw was shown with ethanol yields of 2.1, 1.6 and 1.7 g/L, respectively, for 9 d fermentation time.
