Anomaly detection is a method for discovering unusual and suspicious behavior. In many real-world scenarios, the examined events can be directly linked to the actions of an adversary, such as attacks on computer networks or frauds in financial operations. While the defender wants to discover such malicious behavior, the attacker seeks to accomplish their goal (e.g., exfiltrating data) while avoiding the detection. To this end, anomaly detectors have been used in a game-theoretic framework that captures these goals of a two-player competition. We extend the existing models to more realistic settings by (1) allowing both players to have continuous action spaces and by assuming that (2) the defender cannot perfectly observe the action of the attacker. We propose two algorithms for solving such games -- a direct extension of existing algorithms based on discretizing the feature space and linear programming and the second algorithm based on constrained learning. Experiments show that both algorithms are applicable for cases with low feature space dimensions but the learning-based method produces less exploitable strategies and it is scalable to higher dimensions. Moreover, we use real-world data to compare our approaches with existing classifiers in a data-exfiltration scenario via the DNS channel. Due to a noticeable expansion of document recognition applicability, there is a high demand for recognition on mobile devices. A mobile camera, unlike a scanner, cannot always ensure the absence of various image distortions, therefore the task of improving the recognition precision is relevant. The advantage of mobile devices over scanners is the ability to use video stream input, which allows to get multiple images of a recognized document. Despite this, not enough attention is currently paid to the issue of combining recognition results obtained from different frames when using video stream input. In this paper we propose a weighted text string recognition results combination method and weighting criteria, and provide experimental data for verifying their validity and effectiveness. Spin ice magnetic monopoles are fractionalized emergent excitations in a class of frustrated magnets called spin ices. The classical spin ice model has an extensive number of ground state spin configurations, whereas magnetic monopoles can be thought of as the endpoints of string operators applied to these ground states. Introducing quantum fluctuations into the model induces monopoles with dynamics, which would normally lift the degeneracy of the two-monopole energy level at the linear order of the perturbation. Contrary to this expectation, we find that quantum fluctuations in the form of a locally transverse field term partially preserve the extensive degeneracy of the monopole pairs up to the much weaker splitting of the background monopole-free spin ice configurations. Each of these approximately degenerate excited states, termed mesons, can be represented as a bound monopole-antimonopole pair delocalized in a classical spin ice background.

We present a three-dimensional cubic lattice spin model, anisotropic in the $\hat{z}$ direction, that exhibits fracton topological order. The latter is a novel type of topological order characterized by the presence of immobile pointlike excitations, named fractons, residing at the corners of an operator with two-dimensional support. As other recent fracton models, ours exhibits a subextensive ground state degeneracy: On an $L_x\times L_y\times L_z$ three-torus, it has a $2^{2L_z}$ topological degeneracy, and an additional non-topological degeneracy equal to $2^{L_xL_y-2}$. The fractons can be combined into composite excitations that move either in a straight line along the $\hat{z}$ direction, or freely in the $xy$ plane at a given height $z$. While our model draws inspiration from the toric code, we demonstrate that it cannot be adiabatically connected to a layered toric code construction. Additionally, we investigate the effects of imposing open boundary conditions on our system. We find zero energy modes on the surfaces perpendicular to either the $\hat{x}$ or $\hat{y}$ directions, and their absence on the surfaces normal to $\hat{z}$. We study the problem of a particle hopping on the Bethe lattice in the presence of a Coulomb potential. We obtain an exact solution to the particle's Green's function along with the full energy spectrum. In addition, we present a mapping of a generalized radial potential problem defined on the Bethe lattice to an infinite number of one dimensional problems that are easily accessible numerically. We consider the effect of adding quantum dynamics to a classical topological spin liquid, with particular view to how best to detect its presence in experiment. For the Coulomb phase of spin ice, we find quantum effects to be most visible in the gauge-charged monopole excitations. In the presence of weak dilution with nonmagnetic ions we find a particularly crisp phenomenon, namely the emergence of hydrogenic excited states in which a magnetic monopole is bound to a vacancy at various distances. Low-energy states of quantum spin liquids are thought to involve partons living in a gauge-field background. We study the spectrum of Majorana fermions of Kitaev's honeycomb model on spherical clusters. The gauge field endows the partons with half-integer orbital angular momenta. As a consequence, the multiplicities reflect not the point-group symmetries of the cluster, but rather its projective symmetries, operations combining physical and gauge transformations. Physical excitations associated with these defects are (complex) fermion modes made out of two (real) Majorana fermions connected by a $Z_2$ gauge string. The quantum state of these modes is robust against local noise and can be changed by winding a $Z_2$ vortex around one of the dislocations. The exact solution respects gauge invariance and reveals a crucial role of the gauge field in the physics of Majorana modes. We model the dynamics of magnetization in an artificial analog of spin ice specializing to the case of a honeycomb network of connected magnetic nanowires. The inherently dissipative dynamics is mediated by the emission, propagation and absorption of domain walls in the links of the lattice. These domain walls carry two natural units of magnetic charge, whereas sites of the lattice contain a unit magnetic charge. Magnetostatic Coulomb forces between these charges play a major role in the physics of the system, as does quenched disorder caused by imperfections of the lattice. We identify and describe different regimes of magnetization reversal in an applied magnetic field determined by the orientation of the applied field with respect to the initial magnetization. We derive the spectrum of low-frequency spin waves in skyrmion crystals observed recently in noncentrosymmetric ferromagnets. We treat the skyrmion crystal as a superposition of three helices whose wavevectors form an equilateral triangle. The low-frequency spin waves are Goldstone modes associated with displacements of skyrmions. Their dispersion is determined by the elastic properties of the skyrmion crystal and by the kinetic terms of the effective Lagrangian, which include both kinetic energy and a Berry-phase term reflecting a nontrivial topology of magnetization. The Berry-phase term acts like an effective magnetic field, mixing longitudinal and transverse vibrations into a gapped cyclotron mode and a twist wave with a quadratic dispersion., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures; final version to appear in Phys. Artificial spin ice has become a valuable tool for understanding magnetic interactions on a microscopic level. The strength in the approach lies in the ability of a synthetic array of nanoscale magnets to mimic crystalline materials, composed of atomic magnetic moments. Unfortunately, these nanoscale magnets, patterned from metal alloys, can show substantial variation in relevant quantities such as coercive field, with deviations up to 6%. By carefully studying the reversal process of artificial kagome ice, we can directly measure the distribution of coercivities, and by switching from disconnected islands to a connected structure, we find that the coercivity distribution can achieve a deviation of only 3.3%. These narrow deviations should allow the observation of behavior that mimics canonical spin-ice materials more closely.

Artificial spin ice has been recently implemented in two-dimensional arrays of mesoscopic magnetic wires. We propose a theoretical model of magnetization dynamics in artificial spin ice under the action of an applied magnetic field. Magnetization reversal is mediated by domain walls carrying two units of magnetic charge. They are emitted by lattice junctions when the the local field exceeds a critical value $H_c$ required to pull apart magnetic charges of opposite sign.
