As higher education tuition continues to rise in the United States and globally, other costs impacting students, such as fees, parking, and housing, are rising at a similar pace. Concurrently, more higher education institutions are focusing on creating boutique experiences for students, including the option for single-unit housing. This paper analyzed the costs associated with single-unit housing at the ten largest college campuses in the United States compared to the costs associated with multiunit housing and off-campus living. The changes in preferences for students associated with their college experiences, when partnered with higher costs of living and off-campus housing, create an unsolvable, wicked problem.

As higher education becomes more competitive in terms of student recruitment, program delivery models, and student retention, increasing options in housing and residence life has become more critical for institutional sustainability. Traditional institutions with thriving on-campus living programs have made critical enhancements to their housing and residence life departments to enable students to directly connect with peers, faculty, and the community as a whole. This paper describes community living features at Arizona State University, an innovative leader in housing and residence life, which enhance residential life experiences and create opportunities for students to engage with the local and global community. This paper describes four key features of Arizona State University's model, including food access, transportation access, unique customization of housing experiences based on major, and curated majors based on campus and local economy. By engaging with the local and global community, Arizona State University has created a model in their housing and residence life department where students are better prepared for life post-graduation, which can enhance the surrounding community and help to create an economic benefit to the local and global economy.

BackgroundTransfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a serious complication of blood transfusion and is among the leading causes of transfusion-related morbidity and mortality in most developed countries. In the past decade, the pathophysiology of this potentially life-threatening syndrome has been increasingly elucidated, large cohort studies have identified associated patient conditions and transfusion risk factors, and preventive strategies have been successfully implemented. These new insights provide a rationale for updating the 2004 consensus definition of TRALI.Study design and methodsAn international expert panel used the Delphi methodology to develop a redefinition of TRALI by modifying and updating the 2004 definition. Additionally, the panel reviewed issues related to TRALI nomenclature, patient conditions associated with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and TRALI, TRALI pathophysiology, and standardization of reporting of TRALI cases.ResultsIn the redefinition, the term "possible TRALI" has been dropped. The terminology of TRALI Type I (without an ARDS risk factor) and TRALI Type II (with an ARDS risk factor or with mild existing ARDS) is proposed. Cases with an ARDS risk factor that meet ARDS diagnostic criteria and where respiratory deterioration over the 12 hours before transfusion implicates the risk factor as causative should be classified as ARDS. TRALI remains a clinical diagnosis and does not require detection of cognate white blood cell antibodies.ConclusionsClinicians should report all cases of posttransfusion pulmonary edema to the transfusion service so that further investigation can allow for classification of such cases as TRALI (Type I or Type II), ARDS, transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO), or TRALI or TACO cannot distinguish or an alternate diagnosis.

This study scrutinizes 17 European Commission EI‐awarded companies from 1990 to 2021, uncovering pivotal dimensions and archetypes that drive successful EI implementation. Internal drivers, including management commitment and agile work structures, are paramount for "Believers" who champion sustainability as a core value. "Sellers" strategically respond to market demands, while "Beneficiaries" follow regulatory mandates. The academic implications are profound, providing a robust foundation for future research. This typology contributes to the discourse surrounding EI development and diffusion while offering corporate managers tangible guidance for tailored EI strategies. It illuminates how distinct motives lead to nuanced combinations of internal and external drivers. Background & aimsThe etiology of acute liver failure (ALF) remains elusive in almost half of affected children. We hypothesized that inherited mitochondrial and fatty acid oxidation disorders were occult etiological factors in patients with idiopathic ALF and impaired energy metabolism.MethodsTwelve patients with elevated blood molar lactate/pyruvate ratio and indeterminate etiology were selected from a retrospective cohort of 74 subjects with ALF because their fixed and frozen liver samples were available for histological, ultrastructural, molecular and biochemical analysis.ResultsA customized next-generation sequencing panel for 26 genes associated with mitochondrial and fatty acid oxidation defects revealed mutations and sequence variants in five subjects. Variants involved the genes ACAD9, POLG, POLG2, DGUOK, and RRM2B; the latter not previously reported in subjects with ALF. The explanted livers of the patients with heterozygous, truncating insertion mutations in RRM2B showed patchy micro- and macrovesicular steatosis, decreased mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) content
