O objetivo deste estudo foi quantificar a deposição e o aporte de nutrientes através da serapilheira em um fragmento de Floresta Estacional Decidual, em Itaara, Rio Grande do Sul. Foram demarcadas seis parcelas, alocadas no interior da floresta de forma sistemática, nestas foram instalados cinco coletores de serapilheira com formato cônico. O material depositado nessa estrutura foi separado em folhas, identificadas por espécies, galhos finos (diâmetro < 0,5 cm) e miscelânea (flores, frutos, sementes e restos vegetais). Após o fracionamento e separação foi realizada a determinação dos teores de nutrientes. A quantidade total de serapilheira aportada no período em estudo foi de 39,8 Mg ha-1, sendo composta por 68,4% de folhas, 16,3% de galhos e 15,3% de miscelânea. A espécie com maior quantidade de serapilheira depositada foi a Parapiptadenia rigida com 16,1%, seguido de 9,0% de Ocotea pulchella e 5,9% de Matayba elaeagnoides. A deposição de serapilheira segue a ordem: primavera>outono>inverno>verão. A quantidade aportada de nutrientes seguiu a ordem: N>Ca>K>Mg>S>P para os macronutrientes, e Fe>Mn>B>Zn>Cu para os micronutrientes. A maior devolução de nutrientes via serapilheira foi produzida pela espécie Parapiptadenia rigida, seguida de Ocotea pulchella e Matayba elaeagnoides.

Using biomass (e.g. crop residues) and its derivatives as biosorbents have been recognized as an eco-friendly technique for wastewater decontamination. In this study, mechanically modified cottonwood was further activated with KOH to improve its sorption of Pb(2+). In addition, its potential as a biofilter to safeguard radish (Raphanus sativus, L.) against Pb-stress was evaluated in a gravity-fed drip irrigation system. Physiochemical properties of the chemo-mechanically activated cottonwood (CMACW) and the mechanically activated cottonwood (MACW) before and after sorption process were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), digital selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). After activation, several sorption mechanisms (i.e. precipitation, electrostatic outer- and inner-sphere complexation) were responsible for the higher sorption capacity of CMACW as compared with MACW (8.55 vs. 7.28 mg g(-1)). Sorption kinetics and isotherms fitted better with the pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models as compared with the pseudo-first-order and Freundlich models, respectively. In the gravity-fed drip irrigation system, the CMACW biofilter reduced the accumulation of Pb in radish roots and shoots and avoided reaching the toxic limits in some cases. Soil types had a significant effect on Pb(2+) bioavailability because of the difference in sorption ability. Findings from this study showed that CMACW biofilter can be used as a safeguard for wastewater irrigation.

Na biomassa acima do solo de uma floresta nativa ou plantada, estão estocadas grandes quantidades de nutrientes, com poucos trabalhos encontrados na literatura, principalmente com micronutrientes. Conduziu-se este trabalho com o objetivo principal de quantificar a biomassa e os micronutrientes estocados na biomassa, acima do solo, em uma Floresta Estacional Subtropical, em Itaara-RS, Brasil. Para a quantificação da biomassa, foram abatidas 20 árvores distribuídas em cinco classes de diâmetros. As árvores abatidas foram separadas nas frações: madeira do fuste, casca do fuste, galhos e folhas. Nas amostras da biomassa, foram determinados os teores totais de B, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn. O estoque de micronutrientes na biomassa, para cada componente foi obtido com base na biomassa seca estimada, multiplicada pelo teor de nutrientes. A produção total estimada de biomassa acima do solo foi de 210,0 Mg.ha-1. Nessa estimativa, os galhos corresponderam a 48,8%, a madeira do fuste 43,3%, a casca do fuste 5,4%, e as folhas 2,4%. Os menores teores de B, Cu, Fe e Mn (mg.kg-1) estão na madeira do fuste, com exceção do Zn; nos galhos e na madeira, estão os maiores estoques de B, Cu, Fe e Mn (kg.ha-1). Nos galhos, folhas e cascas, está estocada a maior parte dos micronutrientes, apontando a importância destes de permanecerem sobre o solo.

A disponibilidade de nutrientes para futuros plantios em um sítio florestal está relacionada principalmente à, intensidade de colheita aplicada. Objetivou-se, com este estudo, avaliar as implicações nutricionais causadas pelas diferentes intensidades de colheita da biomassa de um povoamento de Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus globulus com dez anos de idade, em Eldorado do Sul - RS. A avaliação das implicações nutricionais conforme a intensidade de colheita florestal foi analisada levando em consideração: o estoque de nutrientes entre o sistema solo - planta; os efeitos da colheita dos diferentes componentes da biomassa acima do solo na remoção dos nutrientes; o número de rotações e a taxa de remoção de nutrientes conforme o sistema de colheita utilizado e o coeficiente de utilização biológica dos nutrientes. Com a colheita da madeira com casca, todos os nutrientes teriam uma remoção superior a 45% de sua quantidade acumulada na biomassa total acima do solo. Entretanto, removendo apenas a madeira comercial, que apresenta o maior coeficiente de utilização de nutrientes, a porcentagem de remoção para os nutrientes, com exceção do Cu e Zn, seria inferior a 50%, chegando até 10% no caso do Ca, em relação ao total contido na biomassa. O fósforo e o cálcio poderão ser os principais nutrientes a tornarem-se limitantes na produtividade nas próximas rotações, pois as estimativas de rotações potenciais estão próximas a um, quando realizada a colheita da madeira com casca

A estimativa da biomassa e dos nutrientes, em povoamentos de eucaliptos, e importante para a obtencao e definicao de tecnicas que visem a conservacao da capacidade produtiva dos solos. Com isso, o presente estudo teve por objetivo estimar a biomassa acima do solo e os nutrientes nela contidos em um povoamento de Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus globulus (eucalipto), com dez anos de idade, em Eldorado do Sul-RS. Foram alocadas aleatoriamente quatro parcelas experimentais (35 m x 20 m), onde se realizou o inventario florestal e a definicao das classes diametricas do povoamento (cinco classes). Para cada classe de diâmetro, foram abatidas tres arvores para a quantificacao de biomassa e nutrientes. A quantificacao da biomassa e dos nutrientes do sub-bosque foi realizada por meio da alocacao aleatoria de cinco parcelas de 25 m2 cada. Para a estimativa da biomassa de eucalipto, utilizaram-se equacoes de regressao obtidas pelo procedimento Stepwise. As equacoes obtidas com a analise de regressao apresentaram boa predicao das variaveis analisadas, devido ao alto coeficiente de determinacao ajustado e ao baixo erro padrao das estimativas. A biomassa do eucalipto encontra-se predominantemente alocada no fuste (madeira + casca) com 93,7%. Esses mesmos componentes tambem apresentam os maiores estoques de nutrientes. A biomassa de sub-bosque compreende uma pequena fracao da biomassa acima do solo (1,4%), mas representa 7,0 e 8,6% do nitrogenio e enxofre do estoque total. Os componentes da biomassa apresentaram composicoes quimicas distintas, sendo geralmente maiores nas folhas e casca e menores na biomassa de madeira e galhos. Este trabalho foi realizado no Município de Itaara-RS, Brasil, em uma Floresta Estacional Decidual secundária. Teve como objetivo quantificar os nutrientes na biomassa acima do solo, de essências florestais. Foram abatidas 20 árvores, distribuídas em cinco classes de diâmetros (3,2-13,5 cm; 13,6-23,9 cm; 24,0-33,6 cm; 33,7-44,6 cm; e 44,7-55,0 cm). A parte aérea foi fracionada em madeira do fuste, casca do fuste, galhos e folhas. Nas amostras da biomassa foram determinados os teores de N, P, K, Ca, Mg e S. O estoque de nutrientes na biomassa de cada componente foi obtido com base na biomassa seca estimada, multiplicada pelo teor de nutrientes. O rendimento total de biomassa foi estimado em 210,0 Mg ha-1. Para esse rendimento, as contribuições percentuais dos galhos, madeira do fuste, casca do fuste e folhas foram de 48,8; 43,3; 5,4; e 2,4, respectivamente. As folhas foram o componente com os maiores teores de N, P, K, Mg e S, enquanto no componente casca se observou o maior teor de Ca. A madeira do fuste foi o componente que apresentou os menores teores de nutrientes em sua biomassa. De modo geral, o Ca, N e o K foram os nutrientes com maiores estoques na biomassa acima do solo. Nos galhos, devido à maior biomassa, foram verificados os maiores estoques de nutrientes, seguidos pela madeira do fuste.

Batch adsorption experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of type of crop residues and chemical pretreatment solutions on the removal efficiency of heavy metal ions at different concentrations of synthetic wastewater solutions. Rice straw, cotton stalks, and maize stalks were pretreated with different solutions (i.e., sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, sodium hydroxide, and distilled water as the control treatment) in order to increase their metal-binding capacity. Results indicated that cotton stalks were the best biosorbent material according to their efficiency in removal of heavy metal ions. Sodium hydroxide was the best chemical pretreatment method for stimulating the biosorption capacity of crop residues. Ions of Pb2+ had the highest biosorption ratio among all competitive ions, whereas Mn2+ ions had the lowest. The removal efficiency decreased as the concentration of heavy metal ions increased in aqueous solutions. Sorption equilibrium isotherms could be described by the Langmuir model in most cases, whereas an isotherm of S shape was observed in other cases, which did not follow the Langmuir isotherm model. In conclusion, cotton stalks pretreated with sodium hydroxide could be used as an efficient technique for wastewater remediation prior to irrigation due to its low-cost, little processing, and high biosorption capacity.

O conhecimento do aporte de nutrientes das espécies que compõem a Floresta Estacional Decidual é ainda incipiente. Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, determinar a deposição de nutrientes pela serapilheira de diferentes espécies, em uma Floresta Estacional Decidual, no município de Itaara, RS. Para a coleta de serapilheira, foram demarcadas seis parcelas de 25,0 m x 17,0 m cada, sendo distribuídos cinco coletores em cada parcela. As coletas de serapilheira foram realizadas mensalmente, no período de janeiro de 2006 a dezembro de 2007. A serapilheira foi separada em folhas, galhos finos (diâmetro < 0,5 cm) e miscelânea (flores, frutos, sementes e restos vegetais não identificáveis). As folhas foram separadas de acordo com as espécies mais representativas da floresta. O material foi analisado quanto aos teores de macro e micronutrientes. A concentração de nutrientes diferiu entre as espécies. A maior transferência de nutrientes ocorreu por meio da fração folhas, seguido pelos galhos finos e miscelânea. Dentre as espécies avaliadas, a espécie Parapiptadenia rigida apresentou a maior transferência de nutrientes, com exceção do Mn, o qual foi mais transferido pela espécie Matayba elaeagnoides, juntamente com a espécie Ocotea pulchella. Knowledge on nutrient deposition from species that compose the Deciduous Forest is incipient. The objective of this study was to determine the nutrient input by different species, from litter deposition in a Seasonal Deciduous Forest in Itaara, RS. Six plots (25.0 m x 17.0 m) were installed for litter collection,. In each plot, 5 mesh-screen traps were allocated. The litter was monthly collected from January 2006 to December 2007. Litter was sorted out in leaves, twigs (diameter < 0.5 cm) and mixture (flowers, fruits, seeds and non identified plant parts). Leaves were separated regarding the most representative species in the forest. The material was analyzed for the levels of macro and micronutrients. The concentration of nutrients differed between species. The highest nutrient input occurred from the leaf fraction, followed by twigs and mixture. Among the evaluated species, Parapiptadenia rigida showed the highest nutrient transfer, except for Mn that was highest in Matayba elaeagnoides, and Ocotea pulchella.

Ziel der Untersuchung war ein Extraktionsverfahren mit Ionen-Austauscher (IEX) zu optimieren, das die Analyse verfugbarer Schwermetalle (Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn) im Boden ermoglicht. Eingesetzt wurde der schwermetallspezifische IEX LEWATIT TP 207. Fur die Extraktion wurde ein Doppelkammergefas aus PE entwickelt, mit dem der IEX quantitativ aus der Bodensuspension zuruckgewonnen werden kann. Der Rucktausch des Ionenbelages erfolgt mit HNO3. Die Methode erfast neben wasserloslichen und austauschbaren auch saurelosliche Schwermetalle. Durch eine Konditionierung des IEX mit K+ kann der Anteil saureloslicher Schwermetalle reguliert werden. Bei Verwendung eines mit 30% K+ belegten IEX betrugen die pH-Anderungen in der Extraktionslosung maximal 2 Einheiten. Dies entspricht in der Grosenordnung den Aciditatsanderungen in der Rhizosphare, die bei der Nahrstoffaufnahme auftreten konnen. Die Methode ermoglicht die Gewinnung C-freier Extrakte. Dadurch ist die Miterfassung stabiler organischer Schwermetallkomplexe ausgeschlossen. Die Methode ist deshalb auch fur die Untersuchung von Waldboden mit Humusauflagen geeignet. Extraction of Heavy Metals from Soils by Ion Exchangers The aim of this investigation was to optimize an extraction method for the analysis of available heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn) in soils. LEWATIT was used as an ion exchanger (IEX) which absorbs heavy metals specificly. A special extraction vessel with two chambers was developed to recover the IEX from the soil solution. Nitric acid was used for the desorption of heavy metals from the ion exchanger. The described method measures water soluble and exchangeable ions as well as acid soluble heavy metals. The amount of acid soluble heavy metals can be regulated by conditioning the IEX with K+. Using an IEX conditioned with 30% K+, the maximum change of pH in the soil solution was 2 units. This is the same range of acidity changes occuring in the rhizosphere of plants by nutrient uptake. The extract contains no organic compounds. Thus the co-determination of stabil organic complexes is excluded. Accordingly, this method is also feasible for the investigation of forest soils with humic layers.

Zur Bestimmung austauschbarer Kationen in Waldboden wurde eine einfache Extraktionsmethode mit NH4Cl entwickelt. An einer Serie von Boden Sudwestdeutschlands wurde der Einflus ausgewahlter Extraktionsparameter (Reaktionszeit, Konzentration der Austauschlosung, Filtermedium etc.) auf die extrahierbaren Kationenmengen getestet und eine Standardisierung der Methode vorgenommen. Die Austauschreaktion ist in weniger als 4 h quantitativ abgelaufen. Fur die erschopfende Extraktion von K, Mg, Ca und Mn ist eine NH4Cl-Konzentration von 0.05 Mol/1 ausreichend. Die Ausbeute an Al und Fe steigt im Bereich von 0.01 M bis 2 M mit der Konzentration der Extraktionslosung an. Der Austausch ist je nach Probe selbst bei Verwendung einer gesattigten Losung nicht vollstandig. Die Menge extrahierter Protonen ist weitgehend unabhangig von der NH4Cl-Konzentration. Vermutlich stammen betrachtliche Anteile aus der Dissoziation organischer Sauren. Die optimierte Methode ist mit geringem technischem Aufwand durch-fuhrbar und kann fur K, Mg, Ca und Mn alternativ zu den bekannten Perkolationsverfahren eingesetzt werden. A Method for the Determination of Exchangeable Cations in Forest Soils A simple extraction method with NH4Cl was developed for determining exchangeable cations in forest soils. The influence of selected parameters (reaction time, concentration of NH4Cl, filter medium etc.) affecting the amount of extractable cations was tested and a standardisation was done. The cation exchange was completed in less than 4 h. For a quantitative extraction of K, Mg, Ca, and Mn a concentration of 0.05 M NH4Cl was sufficient. The extractable amount of these cations was always clearly defined. However, extracted Al and Fe increased with the NH4Cl-concentration. Depending on the soil samples, the exchange is not quantitative even when using a saturated solution. The extractable H+ is nearly independent of the NH4Cl-concentration. Probably considerable amounts are dissociated from organic acids. The optimized method is feasible and can be used for K, Mg, Ca, and Mn as an alternative to percolation methods.

Die Methode ermoglicht die potentiometrische Simultantitration von H+ und Aluminium in NH4Cl-Bodenextrakten. Eingesetzt wird ein automatisches Titriergerat (METROHM E 636). Als Titer wird 0.04 M NaOH verwendet. Die Methode wurde zunachst an Standardlosungen aus H2SO4 und AlCl3 getestet. Die pH-Kurve hat stets 2 eindeutig definierte Titrationsendpunkte bei pH 4.2 und pH 5.6. Die Wiederfindungsraten betragen i.a. zwischen 95 und 99%. Die Erprobung an realen Bodenextrakten erbrachte weitgehend identische pH-Kurven und belegte die grundsatzliche Eignung der Methode. Der Fehler der Einzelmessung betragt meist weniger als 5%. A Titration-Method for the Simultaneous Analysis of H+ and Aluminium in NH4Cl-Soil Extracts A method for the simultaneous potentiometric titration of H+ and Al in NH4Cl soil extracts was developed. An automatic titrator (METROHM E 636) was used. The reagent was 0.04 M NaOH. The method was first tested using standard solutions containing H2SO4 and AlCl3. The pH-curve consistently showed 2 clearly defined end points at pH-values near 4.2 and 5.6. The measured concentrations varied between 95 and 99% of the theoretical values. Testing with real soil extracts resulted in nearly identical pH-curves and demonstrated the basic suitability of the method. The analytical error is lower than 5%.

Fur 44 Fichtenbestande Sudwestdeutschlands wurden signifikante Beziehungen zwischen den Gehalten an austauschbarem K, Mg, Ca und Al im Boden und den entsprechenden Gehalten der Nadeln nachgewiesen. Enge Zusammenhange ergaben sich auserdem zwischen dem austauschbaren Mg im Boden und dem Vergilbungsgrad alterer Nadeln. Anhand der in der Nadelanalyse gebrauchlichen Grenzwerte wurden kritische Gehalte an austauschbaren Nahrelementen im Boden abgeleitet. Fur Mg liegt der Bereich akuten Mangels bei Gehalten < 2 μeq/g Boden. Die Bodenanalyse kann hierfur alternativ zur Nadelanalyse eingesetzt werden. Fur K ist eine ahnlich scharfe Abgrenzung des Mangelbereichs nicht moglich. Bei Gehalten < 2 μeq/g Boden ist jedoch ein Auftreten akuten K-Mangels wahrscheinlich. Es kann aber auch bei hoheren K-Gehalten (2–5 μeq/g Boden) K-Mangel auftreten. Fur eine Diagnose von K-Mangel stellt die Bodenanalyse daher lediglich eine Orientierungshilfe dar. Soil Analytical Diagnosis of K- and Mg-Deficiency in Spruce Stands (Picea abies Karst.) Significant correlations were demonstrated between the amounts of exchangeable K, Mg, Ca and Al in the soil and the corresponding amounts in the needles of 44 spruce stands in southwestern Germany. Strong correlation was also found between the exchangeable Mg in the soil and the degree of yellowing of older needles. The critical levels of nutrient elements in the soil were derived from the respective contents found in the needles. Acute Mg deficiency occurs at a level of 2 μeq/g soil material. For an evaluation of the Mg nutrition of Picea abies soil analysis can replace the needle analysis. For K a similar clear definition of the deficiency range is not possible, though for K contents < 2 μeq/g soil material a deficiency is probable. However, a K deficiency can also occur at higher levels (2–5 μeq/g soil material). The soil analysis can only be regarded as a guideline indicating K deficiencies.
