Peter Ehlers was to give a speech at the 2nd Session of the Assembly (2020) in Monaco, which was to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). Sadly, the speech was cancelled due to the exceptional circumstances posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. His words were left unspoken. Nevertheless, as Peter Ehlers still had something of significance to say, we are now publishing the manuscript of his intended speech.greatest risk of climate change-related hazards.

Dibenzoacridines were prepared by alkyne–carbonyl-metathesis and the optical properties of the products were studied.

Spirocyclic diindenothiophenes were prepared by cyclization of tosylhydrazones, readily available from ketones, with 3,4-dibromo-2,5-bis(2-bromphenyl)thiophene. For bicyclic ketones, the bis-spirocycles were formed with very good diastereoselectivity.

Naphthothiophenes were prepared from commercially available 2,3-dibromothiophenes in two steps by one-pot Suzuki/Sonogashira or Sonogashira/Suzuki coupling reactions, followed by intramolecular alkyne-carbonyl-metathesis reactions. The final cyclization reaction proceeds in the presence of

Zusammenfassung Ziel der Studie Für die Ärztinnen und Ärzte des klinisch-akademischen Mittelbaus spielen Arbeitsbedingungen sowie die Einstellung zu Beruf und Karriere eine entscheidende Rolle. Seit Jahren ist in der Medizin ein ansteigender Frauenanteil zu verzeichnen. Trotz dieser Zunahme zeigt sich gerade in der akademischen Medizin immer noch eine signifikante Geschlechtsinkongruenz. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es ein aktuelles Meinungsbild von Ärztinnen und Ärzten zu geschlechtsbezogenen Aspekten für die Karriere zu analysieren. Methodik Mittels einer Online-Befragung wurde der medizinische Mittelbau aus universitären und peripheren Krankenhäusern zu berufsbiographischen sowie karriererelevanten Themen befragt und anschließend geschlechtsbezogen analysiert. Ergebnisse Ärztinnen streben im Vergleich zu ihren männlichen Kollegen niedrigere berufliche Karriereziele an und verfolgen hierbei überwiegend die Qualifikation bis zur Oberärztin. Ärzte hingegen haben zum höheren Anteil leitende Positionen zum Ziel. Frauen planen Familie und Kindererziehung früher in ihre Karrieren ein. Männer haben im gleichen Zeitabschnitt eher die berufliche Karriere im Blick. Obwohl nur knapp 47% der Befragten eine akademische Karriere als erstrebenswert erachten, schätzen 65% den Erwerb eines akademischen Titels weiter hoch ein. Bei der Auswertung einer gleichberechtigten Behandlung durch Vorgesetzte fühlen sich Ärztinnen im Vergleich zu Ärzten in ihrer beruflichen Karriere eher benachteiligt. So bewerten Ärzte den Umgang ihrer jeweiligen Vorgesetzten als geprägt von der Qualität der Arbeit (44% für beide vorgesetzten Geschlechter) bzw. abhängig von der Sympathie (weibliche Vorgesetzte 30%; männlicher Vorgesetzter 24%). Ärztinnen sehen jedoch in 37% bei männlichen Vorgesetzten eine Bevorzugung männlicher Kollegen. Schlussfolgerung Trotz eines seit Jahrzehnten deutlich größeren Frauenanteils in der Medizin besteht auch aktuell weiter eine Geschlechtsinkongruenz zugunsten von Männern in Leitungspositionen. Die beruflichen, wie privaten Ziele von Frauen und Männern unterschieden sich je nach Altersdekade deutlich. Die akademische Karriere per se verliert zunehmend an Bedeutung, wobei der Erwerb akademischer Titel weiterhin erstrebenswert zu sein scheint. Zur Verbesserung der Zukunftsfähigkeit der akademischen Medizin sind daher erhebliche strukturelle Veränderungen erforderlich, die projektfähige Karrierepfade (z. B. Tenure Track, Assistenzprofessur, Young Medical Professionals-Modell) für den akademischen Mittelbau ermöglichen.

In Germany, a curriculum in special care dentistry (SCD) is not mandatory. As a result, very little is known about dental students' attitudes toward interacting with people with disability (PwD). The study´s aim was to assess this among dental students at Witten/Herdecke University (UW/H).In the academic years 2016-2017 to 2020-2021, dental students in the 7th semester (UW/H) were asked to complete a self-assessment questionnaire. Prior to its start, the study had obtained a positive vote from the ethics committee of the UW/H (#174/2016).Out of 199 students 166 persons on average 24.5 years old completed the questionnaire. Nearly all participants had already had previous experience with PwD in various domains of life prior to dental school (89.2%). Three-quarters indicated not having reservations about interacting with PwD. The proportion of persons without previous experience in interacting with a PwD was almost twice as high in the group with reservation (16.2%) as it was in the group without reservation (8.7%). Almost all surveyed students (92.8%) affirmed that they would like to learn more on the topic of "Professional Interaction with PwD."Most of the respondents did not have reservations about interacting with PwD. Almost all the participants indicated a high level of interest in topics related to SCD. Also, the authors like to encourage the curriculum committees of dental schools at other universities to integrate courses on SCD, based on the iADH recommendations, into their dental curricula.

A concise and modular synthesis of pyrrolo[1,2-a][1,6]- and [1,8]naphthyridines by a one-pot two-step reaction consisting of electrophilic acylation followed by an alkyne-carbonyl-metathesis reaction as the final cyclization step is reported. This developed synthetic methodology allows the facile synthesis of these heterocyclic core structures in mainly high overall yields under metal-free conditions. Reaction conditions are carefully optimized and display a novel supplement to access these tricyclic heterocyclic compounds.

Triazolopyridines have found various applications as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, or optical materials. Consequently, the introduction of various functionalities at specific sites of this heterocyclic framework is of great importance. In this regard, we report the development of a site-selective Suzuki–Miyaura reactions leading to substituted triazolopyridines at positions 6 and 8. Under optimized conditions, the respective products have been obtained with high selectivity and yield.

Two-step sequential procedures for the Pd-catalyzed synthesis of 5- and 6-azaindoles are reported. The reactions proceed in very good yields. 6-Azaindoles are formed through site-selective Pd-catalyzed Sonogashira reaction of 3,4-dibromopyridine with alkynes, followed by a Pd-catalyzed tandem C–N coupling and cyclization with amines. On the other hand, 5-azaindoles are obtained by a site-selective Pd-catalyzed C–N coupling reaction of 3,4-dibromopyridine with amines, followed by C–C coupling and cyclization with alkynes.

Dibenzocycloheptanones (dibenzotropones) were prepared by Bronsted acid mediated intramolecular alkyne-carbonyl metathesis (ACM) reactions. The cyclization precursors are readily available by Sonogashira reaction of 2-bromobenzoyl chloride with terminal alkynes, followed by Suzuki reactions with benzaldehydes. The ACM reactions are highly modular and atom economic and allow for the construction of two regioisomeric series of dibenzotropones.

Fluoro-substituted and heteroaromatic compounds are valuable intermediates for a variety of applications in pharma- and agrochemistry and synthetic chemistry. This study investigates the chemoenzymatic preparation of chiral alcohols bearing a heteroaromatic ring with an increasing degree of fluorination in α-position. Starting from readily available picoline derivatives prochiral α-halogenated acyl moieties were introduced with excellent selectivity and 64-95 % yield. The formed carbonyl group was subsequently reduced to the corresponding alcohols using the alcohol dehydrogenase from Lactobacillus kefir, yielding an enantiomeric excess of 95->99 % and up to 98 % yield.

Several thieno[2,3-h]-/[3,2-h]- and [2,3-f]quinolines have been synthesised from 2,3-dihalogenated pyridines or -quinolines by site-selective Pd catalysed cross-coupling reactions and Bronsted acid mediated cycloisomerisations as the final key step. This newly developed synthetic strategy is used in a modular way to synthesize diverse regioisomeric derivatives, tolerates various functional groups, and proceeds with high selectivity, and the desired final products have been isolated in high overall yields.

Hitherto unknown thiadiazolo[2′,3′:2,3]imidazo[4,5-b]indoles were synthesized for the first time by base-mediated cyclocondensation, bromination, and subsequent cyclization by two-fold Buchwald–Hartwig reactions.

The Buchwald–Hartwig amination allows an efficient and convenient synthesis of biologically and pharmaceutically important acridones by formation of a six-membered ring. With the described method, a number of derivatives have been synthesized in up to 95% yield by using a variety of anilines as well as benzylic and aliphatic amines.

Many digital interventions rely on the participation of their users to have a positive impact. In various areas it can be observed that the use of digital interventions is often reduced or fully discontinued by the users after a short period of time. This is seen as one of the main factors that can limit the effectiveness of digital interventions. In this context, the concept of adherence to digital interventions is becoming increasingly important. Adherence to digital interventions is roughly defined as "the degree to which the user followed the program as it was designed," which can also be paraphrased as "intended use" or "use as it is designed." However, both the theoretical-conceptual and practical discussions regarding adherence to digital interventions still receive too little attention.The aim of this narrative review article is to shed more light on the concept of adherence to digital interventions and to distinguish it from related concepts. It also discusses the methods and metrics that can be used to operationalize adherence and the predictors that positively influence adherence. Finally, needs for action to better address adherence are considered critically.Viele digitale Interventionen sind auf die Mitwirkung ihrer Nutzer*innen angewiesen, damit sie eine positive Wirkung erzielen können. In verschiedenen Bereichen ist zu beobachten, dass die Anwendung digitaler Interventionen durch Nutzer*innen oftmals nach einer kurzen Zeit reduziert oder in Gänze eingestellt wird. Dies wird als einer der wesentlichen Faktoren angesehen, der die Wirksamkeit digitaler Interventionen einschränken kann. In diesem Zusammenhang gewinnt das Konzept der Adhärenz (Einhalten therapeutischer Vorgaben) bei digitalen Interventionen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Definiert wird Adhärenz bei digitalen Interventionen etwa als „the degree to which the user followed the program as it was designed“ („Ausmaß, in dem die Nutzer*innen die Software so verwenden, wie sie konzipiert wurde“). Dies wird auch oftmals mit „intended use“ oder „use as it is designed“ umschrieben („bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung“ bzw. „Verwendung, wie es konzipiert wurde“). Jedoch finden sowohl die theoretisch-konzeptionelle als auch die praktische Auseinandersetzung hinsichtlich der Adhärenz bei digitalen Interventionen noch eine zu geringe Berücksichtigung in der Forschung.Ziel dieses narrativen Übersichtsartikels ist es, das Konzept der Adhärenz bei digitalen Interventionen näher zu beleuchten und von verwandten Konzepten abzugrenzen. Zudem wird diskutiert, mit welchen Methoden und Messgrößen die Adhärenz operationalisiert werden kann und welche Prädiktoren die Adhärenz positiv beeinflussen. Weiterhin wird auf die Dosis-Wirkungs-Beziehung bei der Anwendung digitaler Interventionen eingegangen und auf Faktoren, die die Adhärenz positiv beeinflussen können. Abgeschlossen wird mit einer ethischen Betrachtung der Thematik.

A series of 5,7,9-substituted 2-azapyrenes were synthesized for the first time. The synthesis relies on Brønsted acid promoted benzannulation of alkyne precursors prepared by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. The synthetic strategy is efficient and the scope covers a variety of functional groups. The electrochemical behavior and photophysical properties of the products were investigated by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and DFT calculations.

A straightforward, site-selective arylation of the bis(triflate) of estrone by Suzuki–Miyaura reactions has been developed. Monoarylation occurs selectively at the D-ring with good to excellent yield. Such products were exemplarily employed for the synthesis of estrones containing two different aryl substituents.

BACKGROUND Interest in digital technologies in the health care sector is growing and can be a way to reduce the burden on professional caregivers while helping people to become more independent. Social robots are regarded as a special form of technology that can be usefully applied in professional caregiving with the potential to focus on interpersonal contact. While implementation is progressing slowly, a debate on the concepts and applications of social robots in future care is necessary. OBJECTIVE In addition to existing studies with a focus on societal attitudes toward social robots, there is a need to understand the views of professional caregivers and patients. This study used desired future scenarios to collate the perspectives of experts and analyze the significance for developing the place of social robots in care. METHODS In February 2020, an expert workshop was held with 88 participants (health professionals and educators; [PhD] students of medicine, health care, professional care, and technology; patient advocates; software developers; government representatives; and research fellows) from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Using the scenario methodology, the possibilities of analog professional care (Analog Care), fully robotic professional care (Robotic Care), teams of robots and professional caregivers (Deep Care), and professional caregivers supported by robots (Smart Care) were discussed. The scenarios were used as a stimulus for the development of ideas about future professional caregiving. The discussion was evaluated using qualitative content analysis. RESULTS The majority of the experts were in favor of care in which people are supported by technology (Deep Care) and developed similar scenarios with a focus on dignity-centeredness. The discussions then focused on the steps necessary for its implementation, highlighting a strong need for the development of eHealth competence in society, a change in the training of professional caregivers, and cross-sectoral concepts. The experts also saw user acceptance as crucial to the use of robotics. This involves the acceptance of both professional caregivers and care recipients. CONCLUSIONS The literature review and subsequent workshop revealed how decision-making about the value of social robots depends on personal characteristics related to experience and values. There is therefore a strong need to recognize individual perspectives of care before social robots become an integrated part of care in the future.

Background: Paediatric palliative care (PPC) is a noncurative approach to the care of children and adolescents with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. Electronic medical records (EMRs) play an important role in documenting such complex processes. Despite their benefits, they can introduce unintended consequences if future users are not involved in their development. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the acceptance of a novel module for nursing documentation by nurses working in the context of PPC. Methods: An observational study employing concurrent think-aloud and semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 11 nurses working in PPC. Based on the main determinants of the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Results: The main determinants of UTAUT were found to potentially influence acceptance of the novel module. Participants perceived the module to be self-explanatory and intuitive. Some adaptations, such as the reduction of fragmentation in the display, the optimization of confusing mouseover fields, and the use of familiar nursing terminology, are reasonable ways of increasing software adoption. Conclusions: After adaptation of the modules based on the results, further evaluation with the participation of future users is required.

4-Bromo-3-O-triflyl-estrone has been synthesized in 2 steps from estrone and was successfully employed in chemoselective palladium catalysed Suzuki-Miyaura reactions. Mono- and bis-arylations were carried out selectively by variation of ligands and solvents. Overall 19 derivatives of mono- and bis-arylated estrones were synthesized under optimized conditions in high yields. Various products showed atropisomerism which was studied in detail by NMR spectroscopy.

A convenient and regioselective synthesis of two series of indolo[2,3-b]quinolines, namely 10H-indolo[3,2-b]quinolines and 6H-indolo[2,3-b]quinolines, has been developed. The synthesis, proceeds in moderate to high yields, involving chemoselective palladium catalyzed Suzuki reaction of 2,3-dihaloquinolines with 2-bromophenylboronic acid, followed by a double Buchwald-Hartwig C-N coupling.
