The European Union (EU) initiative on the Digital Transformation of Health and Care (Digicare) aims to provide the conditions necessary for building a secure, flexible, and decentralized digital health infrastructure. Creating a European Health Research and Innovation Cloud (HRIC) within this environment should enable data sharing and analysis for health research across the EU, in compliance with data protection legislation while preserving the full trust of the participants. Such a HRIC should learn from and build on existing data infrastructures, integrate best practices, and focus on the concrete needs of the community in terms of technologies, governance, management, regulation, and ethics requirements. Here, we describe the vision and expected benefits of digital data sharing in health research activities and present a roadmap that fosters the opportunities while answering the challenges of implementing a HRIC. For this, we put forward five specific recommendations and action points to ensure that a European HRIC: i) is built on established standards and guidelines, providing cloud technologies through an open and decentralized infrastructure; ii) is developed and certified to the highest standards of interoperability and data security that can be trusted by all stakeholders; iii) is supported by a robust ethical and legal framework that is compliant with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); iv) establishes a proper environment for the training of new generations of data and medical scientists; and v) stimulates research and innovation in transnational collaborations through public and private initiatives and partnerships funded by the EU through Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe. © 2020 The Author(s).

Once healthcare-specific models have been captured formally (i.e., in a metamodel-based language), the application of model transformation, analysis and code generation techniques is rather straightforward. Unfortunately, in many healthcare settings valuable domain knowledge is hidden in unstructured text (e.g., in a research paper or a national report on clinical guidelines). This motivates the need for tools to annotate such texts with metadata. Such tools can be prototyped easily for one type of healthcare artifacts (e.g., for clinical guidelines or care pathways) and one purpose (e.g., for workflow management or decision support) but it is a research challenge to build a robust and generic (i.e., metamodel-independent) tool for this important type of model extraction support. This paper desribes our ongoing work to building such a tool on top of a state-of-the-art MDE platform.

Algorithmic trading (AT) strategies aim at executing large orders discretely, in order to minimize the order's impact, whilst also hiding the traders' intentions. Most AT evaluation methods range from running the AT strategies against historical data (back testing) to evaluating them on simulated markets. The contribution of the work presented in this paper is twofold. First we investigated different types of agent-based market simulations and suggested how to identify the most suitable market simulation type, based on the specific market model to be investigated. Then we proposed an extended model of the Bayesian execution strategy. We implemented and assessed this model using our tool AlTraSimBa (Algorithmic Trading Simulation Back testing) against the standard Bayesian execution strategy and naive execution strategies, for momentum markets and random markets. The results revealed useful insights on the trade-offs between the frequency of decision making and more complex decision criteria, on one side, and the negative outcome of lost trading on the agents' side due to them not participating actively in the market for some of the execution steps. © 2012 C.E.S.A.M.E.S.

International audience; The design of Distributed Real-time Embedded (DRE) architecture models for complex and critical systems with safety, liveness, timeliness, dependability concerns, forces the use of formal languages. Because of the high level of criticity, proof techniques are required instead of model-checking with limitations relatively to the state space explosion problems. Proofs of these non-functional properties can only be established on the basis of formal languages with high verification capabilities (theorem provers).Therefore, we have concentrated our efforts on the development of a methodology that would better integrate formal aspects into the design of DRE architectures, which is usually based upon the use of (semi-formal) Architecture Design Languages (ADLs). This methodology has both to support the traceability of non-functional property proofs (from the requirements to the deployment of a DRE system) and the integration of formal and non formal modelling languages.The approach is bottom-up when the method states that each realization artifact, even hidden, has to be detected from the capture requirement stage (each possible realization artifact has to be identified during a prototype coding stage) As a consequence, language translations are not based on the MDA process that supposes some projections. These projections would be responsible for the gap between abstractions used to understand and describe the problem and those used for implementation. To bridge those gaps is the major aim of the methodology, so we called it “Continuum” as it would help to restore the development process continuity. The new aspects of this methodology (and its difficulties) are essentially the introduction of low level concepts (needed for the implementation stages) into the modeling language structures, usually more generic. The methodology application is the development of an algorithmic language translator that enable the generation of a safe code.

The use of parallelism enhances the performance of a software system. Its excessive use, however, can degrade the performance. In this paper we propose a parallelism viewpoint to optimize the use of parallelism by eliminating unnecessarily used threads in legacy systems. The viewpoint describes the parallelism behaviour of the system, which can be used to analyze for overheads associated with threads. We illustrate the proposed viewpoint with the help of an industrial case, a parallelism-intensive electron microscope software system. We use the viewpoint to analyze threads suitable to be replaced with a small sized thread pool in this system. Results show that the viewpoint provides a profound insight into the thread-model of the system that is required to reduce the parallelism. In the thread pool analysis, we found that more than 50% threads are underused.
