Cet article se penche sur les désirs de mobilité sociale ascendante et sur leur réalisation à travers l’accès à l’enseignement supérieur chez de jeunes Bruxellois d’origine étrangère. Alors que la littérature met en évidence une tendance des groupes migrants à développer de plus hautes aspirations que le reste de la population, cet article démontre que ce lien entre aspirations et projet migratoire n’est pas systématique. Il est médiatisé par l’expérience scolaire qui correspond ici tant à la position des élèves au sein des hiérarchies scolaires qu’à leur vécu subjectif concernant cette position. Cet article illustre aussi les stratégies de bricolage mises en œuvre par les élèves afin de concrétiser leurs aspirations lors de leur entrée dans l’enseignement supérieur. This article analyses the upward social mobility wishes through higher education of youth with a migrant background in Brussels. Based on the literature about higher aspiration of migrant populations, the article demonstrates that the link between aspirations and migratory projects is non-systematic. This links is mediated by the educational experience – intended here as both the students’ position in the educational hierarchies and the subjective perceptions they have about their position. The article also shows the students’ tinkering strategies when they face contingencies in their transition to higher education.

Or, la filière porcine en Corse s’est récemment organisée à travers des organisations visant l’intégration économique qui ne représentent pas l’ensemble du secteur et qui restent fragiles. L’article met au jour d’autres formes d’action collective, peu visibles a priori, en lien avec deux dispositifs de gestion et de surveillance sanitaires. Elles sont discrètes et liées à la proximité géographique entre éleveurs. The new health governance in France asks producers organizations to take part in decision-making regarding animal health. The hog farming sector in Corsica has recently organized itself through organizations aiming at economic integration. Yet the organizations do not represent the whole sector. The article sheds light on other forms of collective action regarding two animal health management features : territorially based discreet collective actions.

This paper investigates the links between the existence of a neighbourhood effect and school choice. The case study is Brussels. It offers the opportunity to analyse a segregated urban context with a school system organized as a quasi-market based on the freedom of school choice. Crossclassified multilevel analyses have been used on 36 427 students in 117 neighbourhoods and 131 schools from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation's Student count. Our results challenge the idea of local embeddedness in deprived areas. This should be understood in the light of the structural characteristics of the school system (the importance of delays and of early orientations in alternative tracks) but also of the spatial patterns of the school offer in Brussels, which varies according to one's geographical place in the school system., SCOPUS: re.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Ethnic disparities in educational aspirations and choices are important to comprehend ethnic education inequality. Based on a mixed-method approach (3121 questionnaires and 40 interviews of pupils), this article investigates ethnic differences among nine ethnic minority groups of pupils in Brussels with regard to their educational aspirations. The multivariate analysis of the questionnaires shows that pupils from only four out of the nine ethnic minorities hold significantly higher aspirations than the majority group. In addition, our mixed-method results did not support the hypothesis on perceived ethnic discrimination in the labour market in explaining the higher educational aspirations of ethnic minority youth. Nevertheless, personal experience of discrimination at school is significantly associated with higher educational aspirations. We conclude by highlighting the relevance of the parental transmission of the intergenerational mobility project in explaining ethnic differences in youth’s educational aspirations.
