The passive cotton‐based Al‐air battery adopts the cotton cloth as the flow channel to transport the electrolyte by the capillary force from the cloth. An absorbent pad is usually put at the end of the cotton cloth to keep the electrolyte continuously flowing. Once the absorbent pad is saturated, the electrolyte flow slows down or even stops. This can affect the transportation of the electrolyte and product, decreasing the battery performance. To maintain the electrolyte's continuous flow, the cotton‐based Al‐air battery with the tilt angle was presented and constructed. The effects of the catalyst loadings, tilt angles, electrolyte types, and area ratios on this battery were studied. Under the 4 mg cm−2 carbon catalyst loading, 10° tilt angle, 4 mol L−1 KOH electrolyte, and anode‐to‐cathode area ratio of 1 : 3, this battery performance was optimal, with the peak power density of 78.09±0.68 mW cm−2 and limiting current density of 213.12±0.80 mA cm−2. Finally, the battery stack was gained by connecting the two batteries with the 10° tilt angle in series. This stack with a peak power of 48.47±0.37 mW could light the 44 LEDs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to study the performance of mixed refrigerant R32/R600 in a dual evaporator water chiller unit, the performance parameters of R32/R600 mixed refrigerant with mass components of (0.5:0.5) and (0.6:0.4) were experimentally measured under variable evaporation temperature conditions when the inlet and outlet temperatures of the cooling water were 32℃/37℃. The research results indicate that under the same operating conditions, with the increase of low boiling point R32 components, the low-temperature refrigeration capacity of R32/R600 mixed working fluid decreases, while the high-temperature refrigeration increases; Both low and high temperature COP are reduced, mainly due to the increased power consumption of the compressor. Under variable operating conditions, the performance trends of the units with R32/R600 components are consistent. When the inlet and outlet water temperature of the low-temperature evaporator remains unchanged, as the inlet and outlet water temperature of the high-temperature evaporator decreases, the low-temperature cooling capacity of the unit decreases, while the high-temperature cooling capacity increases; Low temperature COP decreases while high temperature COP increases; Reduced power consumption of the compressor. When the inlet and outlet water temperature of the high-temperature evaporator remains unchanged, as the inlet and outlet water temperature of the low-temperature evaporator decreases, the low-temperature cooling capacity decreases and the high-temperature cooling capacity increases; Low temperature COP decreases while high temperature COP increases; The power consumption of the compressor has increased. The suction and exhaust pressures of the unit are within the safe range. R32/R600 (0.5:0.5) has better performance. Abstract Recycled aggregate (RA), as a backfill subgrade material, has strong reproducibility and environmental protection, which cannot only effectively reduce resource consumption and environmental pollution but also achieve recycling of resources. Therefore, a study on the bending fatigue performance of RA backfill subgrade is proposed. Based on linear elastic state, softening state, and damage accumulation state, the variation law of bending fatigue damage variables is analyzed, and the stiffness of RA under cyclic load is calculated. According to the correlation between fatigue damage corresponding to two different load links and the constitutive relationship of RA, the identification results of bending fatigue damage state based on RA backfilling subgrade is obtained. The advantages of the fatigue damage model of RA are analyzed, and the fatigue life equation is established based on the damage evolution equation. Strain, stiffness modulus, asphalt saturation, and asphalt mixture adjustment coefficient are selected as model parameters to establish the fatigue damage model of RA. The flexural bearing capacity of the double-reinforced rectangular section is calculated, and the flexural fatigue performance of RA backfill subgrade is analyzed. The test results show that the high stress level in this method leads to a sharp decline in the fatigue life of the specimen, and the influence of fatigue damage gradually appears, which is helpful to improve the durability and safety of the subgrade structure. The range of change shows a small range, which is close to the reduction coefficient result, indicating that this method has high reliability in analyzing the bending fatigue performance of RA backfill subgrade.

This article discusses our development of a new form of feminist Creative Analytic Practices (CAP) by creating knowledge through interactive video installation and web-based interactive re-storytelling (https://kimchoi.net/a-story-of-ones-own/). Since the 1990s, qualitative social researchers have been developing alternative methods and forms to capture and represent the complexity of lived experiences. Through referencing feminist postconstructionist CAP, Deleuzian rhizomatic narrative inquiry, and feminist film theories and films, our project – consisting of reflexive writing experiments and re-enactment of 43 older Hong Kong women's life stories in hypermedia – contributes to this expansive knowledge. Specifically, we describe our writing and production processes, including the strategies and tools considered, medium specificity and cinematic apparatuses used, and challenges encountered when attempting to create a nonlinear, multi-layered, polyphonic, and interactive narrative. Our main concerns are: How can researchers produce a self-conscious, research-based creative work that highlights women's agency under socio-cultural constraints, whilst acknowledging selfhood as rhizomatic, knowledge as situated, and "truths" as partial and multiple under conditions of its own making? How can we produce alternative social science research practices that carry both logic and affect? Gel foam extinguishing agent (gel foam) has promising applications in the prevention and management of mine coal spontaneous combustion. Based on the research on coal spontaneous combustion and prevention technology, this article discusses recent studies on using gel foam to extinguish coal mines. The structural properties and principles of gel foam are described briefly. The research developments of three significant varieties of gel foam are then presented in detail, including silicate gel foam, acrylamide copolymer gel foam, and natural polymer gel foam. Meanwhile, the research status of gel foam anti-fire technology's rheological properties, stability property, plugging property, and inhibitory properties are introduced. Furthermore, in conjunction with the research state, the prospects of the research direction of gel foam are proposed, which serve as a reference for future research on gel foam. This article is a collaborative weaving of critical discourse and reflections on Dance and Cultural Dramaturgies in Contested Land--two practice-led and (inter)culturally informed research laboratories that took place on Yawuru Country (Broome) in May 2022 and Gadigal and Bidiagal Country (Sydney) in July 2023. Presented by Marrugeku, an Indigenous and intercultural performance company, the laboratories located questions of dance dramaturgy in the contested land that is danced on to engage the cultural perspectives and experiences of those who create it. This article discusses ways in which shared musical lines such as unisons or pitch repetitions can increase and intensify a sense of bonding between performers. Counterpointoriented analytical frameworks tend to reduce unisons and unison motion to a single line. By contrast, I propose that unisons' performative dimension--which I refer to as sonic bridges--foregrounds their importance. Combining analysis with ethnography, I examine unison passages in two songs for piano and voice by Kaija Saariaho, "Parfum de l'instant" from Quatre instants (2002) and "Rauha" from Leinolaulut (2007). This article suggests that Saariaho's use of sonic bridges not only enables two very different instruments--piano and voice--to compellingly blend, but also strengthens the empathy and bonding between singer and pianist, which further exposes the intimate, multisensory quality of these songs. Despite enormous revenue production and a recent trend of investment in sport medicine research, American football has yet to make a measurable investment in sport performance science research. As a result, available knowledge is presently skewed toward technical and tactical domains, with very little knowledge development occurring in other areas within the sport science realm. In this editorial, we discuss plausible contributing factors to the current situation, and suggest ways to resolve this issue and move forward for the betterment of the sport.

Conventional Al‐air batteries are not suitable as portable power devices due to their complicated water management and bulky system. To resolve this issue, the fiber paper‐ and cotton cloth‐based Al‐air batteries were proposed, which exploited the capillary force from the paper (FP) and cotton cloth (CC) to deliver the solutions and eliminated the external pump. The physical features of the FP and CC were gained including the surface morphologies, surface elementary analysis, liquid absorption and flow rates. CC owned larger liquid absorption and faster flow rate due to its hierarchically woven‐spun fiber structure, compared to the randomly oriented fibers of the FP, although the surface of the CC demonstrated lower O/C ratio than that of the FP. So, the performance of the CC‐based Al‐air battery was largely higher than that of the FP‐based battery. The performance of the CC‐based Al‐air battery was optimal at 1.0 M NaOH electrolyte and the anode‐to‐cathode surface area ratio of 1 : 4, with the peak power density of 14.95±0.28 mW cm−2, and the maximum current density of 36.61±0.54 mA cm−2. This article reflects on a series of wild experiments in literal field sites. It develops a practice-based methodology that aims to identify, perform and assert wild presences and unruly processes, playfully engaging with vibrant and dynamic ecologies. To explore these concerns 'in the field', a series of research trips were undertaken in the United Kingdom between 2017 and 2020, including repeated visits to Knepp Wildland Project in West Sussex and Bamff Estate in Perthshire. These locations were chosen due to their engagement with rewilding as an experimental mode of ecosystem management. Rewilding is explored here as a process-driven approach to conservation that offers a potential model for transdisciplinary artistic research. Adopting and adapting its methods through a combination of place writing, collaborative performance making and site-specific art, a creative practice is developed that prompts collaborative ways of working in response to the ecologies, conceptualisations and performances of these field sites. Aiming to bring something back from the field into the academy, the article argues for a (re)wilding of disciplinary knowledge exchange. It concludes with a call for wild epistemology, proposing that research in specific field sites can be informed by an artistic practice that is entangled, unsettling and continually practiced. An original cast recording is produced to prolong the musical theatre experience, serving as a sound souvenir, a marketing tool, and a means to a commercial end, contributing to a show's overall success and impact. However, it also plays a part in performance practices, assisting singers and voice teachers in learning new repertoire, and navigating an omnivorous performance field drawing on a wide variety of vocal and musical styles and aesthetics to tell its stories. In this regard, the original cast recordings take on the status of so-called vocal scripts, here defined as sonic entities choreographing social interactions between players, making them objects of interest in performance research and performing arts pedagogy. Drawing on writings from the fields of musicology, cultural sociology, and voice studies, this article's theoretical contribution is twofold; (1) on a conceptual level, offering insight into and establishing the term vocal script, and (2) from a vocal pedagogical stance, exploring the ways of listening involved when interacting with a multifaceted vocal script. This article argues for taking the original cast recordings seriously within the theatre profession as material mediators, playing active parts in the formations of vocal behaviors, vocal styles, vocal tastes, and vocal pedagogies. Curved bridge deck pavement materials are easy to be damaged due to their complex stress conditions. Hence, the application of a high-viscosity modified asphalt mixture in curved bridge deck pavement is studied in this paper. Firstly, the severity of pavement diseases on curved bridge decks was introduced and compared with the deck pavement diseases in straight sections. Then, compared with SBS-modified asphalt mixture SMA-13, the advantages of high-viscosity modified asphalt mixture HM-SMA-13 in resistance to deformation, water damage, shear deformation, and fatigue were analyzed. The results show that HM-SMA-13 has 1.6 times the high-temperature deformation resistance, 1.2 times the shear deformation resistance, 1.1 times the low-temperature performance, 1.05 times the water stability, and 7 times the fatigue resistance of the SMA-13 mixture. Finally, HM-SMA-13 was applied to the curved bridge deck pavement. After one year of operation, slight rutting and cracking appear on the bridge deck pavement, which indicated that HM-SMA-13 is a suitable material for curved bridge pavement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article outlines analytical methods for preparing and interpreting Karlheinz Stockhausen's sextet Mikrophonie I (1964) for tam-tam and electronics. Would-be performers of this work face significant accessibility issues: Stockhausen's recommended equipment—especially the electronic filter used to process the tam-tam's sound—is extremely rare. These issues often necessitate performers finding alternative solutions for equipment. Mikrophonie I is one of several works for live electronics that have become increasingly difficult to program, due to the obsolescence of the technology required to perform them. Performers often reconstruct the necessary electronics digitally, using software such as Max/MSP. Wetzel [(2006). "A Model for the Conservation of Interactive Electroacoustic Repertoire: Analysis, Reconstruction, and Performance in the Face of Technological Obsolescence." Organised Sound 11 (3): 273–284. https://doi.org/10.1017/S1355771806001555] describes a three-stage model for this reconstructive process that foregrounds the need for performer-led analysis. Using Mikrophonie I as a case study, I expand on Wetzel's model to navigate the reconstruction through two main analytical perspectives: the prioritisation of sound or process. These methods are then applied to my realisation process of Mikrophonie I. I describe the process of constructing a digital filter in Max/MSP based on a patch created by Christopher Burns [(2002). The cotton-based microfluidic Al-air batteries automatically deliver the electrolyte by the capillary force, available as the power supply for microelectronic devices. However, among these Al-air batteries, only one side of the Al anode participates in anodic reactions, wasting the anode and decreasing the anodic utility. To address the issues and gain a compact battery, the cotton-based Al-air battery with the double-side reactive anode is presented. It is comprised of the two air-breathing cathodes, two cotton channels and one anode. This battery shows a high specific capacity of 2856 mA h g−1 at 10 mA cm−2 current density, corresponding to the anodic utility of 95.8 %. At 3.5 mg cm−2 catalyst loading and 4 mol L−1 NaOH, the battery performance is optimal, with the peak power density of 28.0 ± 0.1 mW cm−2 and the limiting current density of 81.0 ± 4.1 mA cm−2. To further simplify the battery, the electrolyte container and absorbent pad are removed, and the electrolyte is non-flowing. The peak power densities of the batteries with or without the flowing electrolytes are almost the same. Finally, the stacks connected from the two batteries in series with and without the flowing electrolytes can light 63 and 50 light-emitting diodes. With the passage of time, a large amount of sediment was deposited in the reservoir, which caused great harm to the reservoir environment. The reservoir sediment, lime, fly ash, river sand and sodium silicate were mixed in a certain proportion to prepare the non-fired brick. The compressive strength, water absorption, anti-lime burst and anti-freeze-thaw cycle of the non-fired brick were systematically studied to determine the optimal content of the material. The results showed that when 3 % sodium silicate was added, the compressive strength of the non-fired brick prepared with the ratio of reservoir sediment: lime:fly ash=40:36:24 can reach 19.04 MPa. The water absorption rate and the mass loss rate and strength loss rate after 15 freeze-thaw cycles are the smallest, which are 11.50%,0.73% and 3.41%, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While many previous studies have explored indeterminacy as a compositional technique, in this article we explore the concept of indeterminacy, not only from the perspective of the composer, but also from the perspectives of performer and archival researcher, drawing upon our experiences of researching and performing several live electronic music compositions by British experimental musician Hugh Davies (1943–2005). Our core argument is that beneath the surface level of composed indeterminacy—that is, beyond the notations and instructions that a composer employs to prescribe indeterminate musical results—there exist further 'nested' planes of indeterminacy that reveal themselves through the acts of archival research, rehearsal and performance. 'Instrumental' indeterminacy has to do with the instruments that are used to perform the music, and specifically to situations where the boundaries of the instruments are experienced (by performers or audience members) as ambiguous, fluid, reconfigurable, or undefinable, or where the behaviour of the instrument(s) is unpredictable or uncontrollable in the moment of performance. 'Hermeneutic' indeterminacy concerns the composer's intentions and the ways in which these are revealed, through the processes of archival and performance research, to be incompletely, ambiguously, contradictorily, and/or diffusely represented in documents (including but not limited to scores) and material configurations (including the instruments and apparatus used to perform the music). 'Ontological' indeterminacy is signalled by uncertainty (on the part of the researchers) about the ontological status of the piece to be performed. By sharing these perspectives, we aim to contribute to scholarly understandings of the 'afterlives' of indeterminacy, beyond the circumscriptions of a composer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When assessing a fund manager's skill, sophisticated investors will consider all factors (priced and unpriced) that explain cross-sectional variation in fund performance. We investigate which factors investors attend to by analyzing mutual fund flows as a function of recent returns decomposed into alpha and factor-related returns. Surprisingly, investors attend most to market risk (beta) when evaluating funds and treat returns attributable to size, value, momentum, and industry factors as alpha. Using proxies for investor sophistication (wealth, distribution channels, and periods of high investor sentiment), we find that more sophisticated investors use more sophisticated benchmarks when evaluating fund performance. In this experiment, the polyaniline coated fabrics were produced using aniline as the monomer by in-situ polymerization, p-toluenesulfonic acid as the doping agent and ammonium persulfate as the oxidant on the polyester fabric. The influence of different process conditions on the dielectric properties of the polyaniline coated fabric was explored. The fastness to rubbing of the coated fabrics was tested. The results show that the concentration of aniline and the oxidant both influence the dielectric properties of the fabrics. An appropriate aniline concentration is beneficial to increase the output of the polyaniline and reduce sudden and violent polymerization. A suitable oxidant concentration is beneficial to form polyaniline with a complete structure, reducing the occurrence of peroxide. When the aniline concentration was 0.4 mol/L and the oxidant concentration was 0.4 ∼ 0.5 mol/L, the polarizing ability, loss ability and absorbing-attenuation ability of the fabrics to electromagnetic waves are all stronger. The dielectric properties of the obtained polyaniline coated fabrics varied corresponding to different types of dopants and doping levels. Compared to glacial acetic acid, hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, the dielectric properties of the prepared coated fabric were optimal when using p-toluenesulfonic acid as the dopant. When the concentration of the p-toluenesulfonic acid was 0.2 mol/L, the polarizing, loss and absorbing-attenuation abilities of the fabrics to electromagnetic waves are all stronger. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate how time-of-day training preference influences resistance-exercise performance. Methods: Resistance trained males (n = 12) were recruited for this study. In a crossover, counterbalanced design, participants completed two separate bench-press exercise trials at different times of day: (a) morning (AM; 8:00 hr) and (b) evening (PM; 16:00 hr). Participants answered a questionnaire on time-of-day training preference and completed a preferred (PREF) and nonpreferred (NON-PREF) time-of-day trial. For each trial, motivation was measured using a visual analog scale prior to exercise. Participants completed 2 sets × 2 repetitions at 75% 1-RM with maximum explosiveness separated by 5 min of rest. Mean barbell velocity was measured using a linear position transducer. Participants then completed 1 set × repetitions to failure (RTF) at 75% 1-RM. Rate of perceived exertion (RPE) was measured immediately following exercise. Results: Regardless of preference, velocity (p = .025; effect size (ES) = 0.43) was higher during the PM versus AM trial. However, there were no significant differences in velocity (p = .368; ES = 0.37) between PREF and NON-PREF time of day. There were no significant differences for repetitions between PREF and NON-PREF times (p = .902; ES = 0.03). Motivation was higher in the PREF time versus NON-PREF (p = .015; ES = 0.68). Furthermore, RPE was significantly lower during the PREF time of day (p = .048; 0.55). Conclusions: Despite higher barbell velocity collectively at PM times, time-of-training preference did not largely influence resistance-exercise performance, while motivation is higher and RPE is lower during preferred times. Graphene was compounded with polyaniline to prepare a polyaniline/graphene composite coated fabric. The influence of the graphene on a series of properties of coated fabrics was discussed, and the results show that when the graphene content was 10 to 15% that of the polyaniline, the polarizing ability, loss ability and absorbing-attenuation ability of fabrics to electromagnetic waves were all stronger. As the coating thickness increases, the breaking strength and elongation at break of the fabric both showed an increase initially before decreasing; when the thickness was 0.5 mm, both fabrics were at their maximums, and the mechanical properties were at their best. The thermal decomposition temperature of the polyaniline/graphene composite coated fabric (411.3 °C) was higher than for the polyaniline coated fabric (402.9 °C) by 8.4 °C. The residue rate at 800 °C for the polyaniline/graphene composite coated fabric (18.83%) was larger than for the polyaniline coated fabric (14.17%) by 4.66%; the fabric had better thermal stability after the graphene was added. The graphene, with high thermal conductivity, was added to the polyaniline matrix as a filler, which can effectively fill the gaps between the polyaniline molecules, and an effective heat-conduction pathway forms and the heat-dissipation performance for the polyaniline/graphene composite coated fabric is improved. When the graphene content was 15% that of the polyaniline, the coefficient of thermal conductivity increases from 0.1011 W/mK to 0.1843 W/mK, an increase of nearly 82%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We delineate three dimensions of resource allocation behavior that allow us to distinguish between real options logic and alternative resource allocation regimes: sequencing, low initial commitment, and reallocation. We then measure these in a product innovation context to test for the performance effect of real options logic vis-à-vis its alternatives. Sequencing, which distinguishes dynamic allocation regimes more generally, is associated with higher new product sales. Low initial commitment and reallocation do not show individual direct effects on new product sales. However, when assessed as a match, we find that the fit between low initial commitment and reallocation (yes-yes; no-no) increases performance significantly. After controlling for such fit as well as sequencing, we find no significant performance difference between real options logic and other regimes. Our findings imply that insufficient identification of real options logic picks up confounding effects, which may provide an explanation for the inconclusive results in prior studies of real options and performance. In addition to bounding the concept more precisely, we contribute to theory by situating real options logic within the broader set of allocation regimes conducive to innovation performance in uncertain, competitive markets. This study used a consumer marketing approach to investigate the market for sport psychology positions in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) institutions. Athletic administrators' (AA) preferences for various sport psychology positions were compared based on time commitment, affiliation, payment, services, and clients. Results indicated that AAs were most attracted to positions that included (a) part-time commitment, (b) athletic department employment, (c) payment via annual salary, (d) both performance and mental health related services, and (d) work with athletes, teams, and athletics staff members. Over two thirds of the 478 AAs sampled were interested in hiring a sport psychology professional to ill that position. This study evaluates the effect of pre-existing relational governance mechanisms on environmental collaboration. Specifically, our study distinguishes between structural and process dimensions of relational governance mechanisms so as to facilitate a more nuanced investigation into the inherent complementarities and performance implications. Using data collected from 145 US firms and a combination of methodologies – three-stage least squares and structural equation modelling, a number of direct, complementary and mediation effects are hypothesised and tested. The three-stage least squares methodology was adopted to overcome endogeneity and simultaneity issues inherent in the hypotheses covering complementarity. Contrary to conventional wisdom, structural and process governance mechanisms were not found to act as complements for environmental collaboration. Instead, the effect of structural mechanisms was found to be completely mediated by the process mechanisms. Thus, process mechanisms of relational governance were found to be much more important in promoting advanced practices such as environmental collaboration. Similar to the fairly well-established distinction between substantive capabilities and dynamic capabilities, a further distinction can be made between first-order dynamic capabilities (which have been the subject of much interest and debate over the past two decades) and second-order dynamic capabilities (which have received considerably less attention thus far). Based on a large-scale survey study in the context of strategic alliances, this paper empirically examines second-order dynamic capabilities in two ways. First, I find that, for the most part, the performance effect of second-order dynamic capabilities is indirect and mediated by first-order dynamic capabilities. Second, results show a negative interaction between first- and second-order dynamic capabilities, suggesting that they function as substitutes in affecting performance outcomes. In order to resolve the contradiction of poor compatibility between plant fiber and cement-based materials and improve the toughness and durability of cement-based composites, this paper takes jute fiber cement-based composites as the research object, and proposes the pretreatment method of jute fiber through mass loss rate and water absorption test. The influence of pretreated jute fiber on the properties of cement-based composites was investigated by means of mechanical properties and frost resistance tests. The strengthening mechanism of jute fiber in the pre-treatment of cement-based composite materials was revealed from a microscopic perspective using scanning electron microscopy and mercury porosimetry. The results indicate that the quality loss rate of jute fiber soaked in hot alkali solution (60 ℃, 4% NaOH solution) was the largest, which was 37.94%. After dipping in 10% chloroprene latex, the fiber water absorption was the smallest, which was 0.93%. Therefore, the jute fiber was pretreated by the combination of hot alkali solution soaking and chloroprene latex impregnation. The pretreatment of fibers will reduce the fluidity of the composites, but has little influence on the setting time of the composites. The flexural strength, splitting tensile strength, dry shrinkage and frost resistance of the composites are significantly improved by the pretreatment fiber, but the compressive strength is slightly insufficient. The jute fiber after pretreatment can achieve reinforcement, crack resistance and toughening, reduce the porosity of cement-based composites, and optimize the pore structure inside the cement-based composites. • A new type of plant fiber reinforced cement-based composite was developed. • Pretreatment of jute fiber can effectively improve the toughness and frost resistance of composites. • Pretreatment of jute fiber optimizes the porosity and pore distribution of cement-based composites. Recurring patterns of action are essential in our efforts to explain central properties of business firms and other organizations. However, the development of systematic theory has been hampered by the difficulty of adequately specifying foundational assumptions. We address this problem by defining a concept of collective performance, which brings together a range of recurring organizational action patterns that have been studied under labels such as “routine,” “practice,” standard operating procedure, or “genre of action.” All these forms of organizational action are based on human habit to a significant degree. We propose a conceptual framework for such habit-based organizational action patterns. The framework is a set of core principles and desirable model properties that can serve as a guide in the development of formal models of collective performance. It provides micro-foundations for the modeling of collective performance that are aligned with contemporary developments in psychology. Finally, we present a series of examples, developed in Supplementary Materials, that shows how our framework leads to new classes of formal models that can aid the analysis of collective performance. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of an imagery intervention for enhancing the experience of low state and performance in junior athletes. On the basis of previous results, a tailored imagery script was developed to target critical low dimensions, namely challenge-skills balance, clear goals, concentration on the task, and sense of control. It was hypothesized that the use of cognitive and motivational imagery would increase specific low dimensions, which, in turn, would enhance low state and competition performance. Participants in a single-case, multiple baseline A-B design study were four nationally ranked athletes. Following a 6-week baseline phase monitoring low state and performance and a 6-week intervention phase using relaxation in conjunction with imagery techniques, three participants showed a sustained increase in low experiences, and all four participants improved their service performance, groundstroke performance, and ranking-list position. The article discusses research investigating whether replacing sports coaches in the middle of a season improves team performance, with particular focus given to a study on National Basketball Association (NBA) teams. The difficulties of changing coaches mid-season for managers and players are commented on, and the finding that team performance was improved in 61 percent of cases is examined. The finding that previous experience as an NBA player was correlated to higher success for new coaches is also explored.

In this article, we provide an example of a performance-research project to advance understandings of the ways artistic and scientific processes work in conversation. Drawing on the research-informed play Cracked: New Light on Dementia, we consider the interrelationship among cultural narratives (including the perpetuation of oppressive narratives of marginalized people), aesthetic and artistic exploration (sensory and emotional exploration together with dramaturgy and theatricality), and social critique for the purposes of broader social change. By explicating three interrelated "acts" of our process, including preparation, execution and exhibition (THOMPSON, 2015), we share the ways artistic practices were flexibly used to generate new cultural knowledge about the ways we think, feel, and sense about dementia to mobilize social good. With our work we criticize institutional and research structures that deny arts processes the status of "research," as well as challenge traditional modes of knowledge and knowledge production. At classical music concerts, a program note is the usual medium for communicating information about the music to be heard and performed. Although there may be crossover of information, the program note is distinct from the CD cover note, from notes contained within a musical score note, and from a composer's directions for performers. With a focus on contemporary classical works in the Australian context, the researchers' aim in this study was to develop and test an analytical frame of informational categories with which to examine program note content. Three extant studies – one scientific, one phenomenological and one semiotic – informed the development of an initial theoretical framework for program note analysis. This was tested through the analysis of program notes (n = 30) from each of three writer cohorts: composers, professional writers, and higher education students. The analytical frame revealed different emphases of information categories among the three program note writer groups, with a more sophisticated combination of categories used by the professional writers and composers. This has implications for the teaching of program note writing in tertiary performance institutions, encouraging diversity of student content without extinguishing personal insights. Performance measurements are central to improving organisational competitiveness. Organisations and researchers have developed and investigated various performance-measurement systems to manage and improve internal and external operations for logistics and supply chains. Yet, formal modelling tools and approaches for organisations to help evaluate the relationships between the performance measures and the desired competitive outcomes are limited, especially in logistics and supply-chain management functions. To help address this gap, we introduce a novel application of neighbourhood rough-set theory for the identification and selection of performance measures related to externally derived desired outcomes on the sourcing function. Our contribution includes introducing an innovative neighbourhood rough-set approach using elements of the Supply-Chain Operations Reference model. The model may aid in determining a core set of external logistics and supply-chain performance measures to internal performance expectations and outcomes. Numerous studies in operations management have investigated alignment between business and functional level strategies. In spite of the considerable amount of research that has been conducted, little consensus exists regarding how the competitive environment affects the relationship between strategic alignment and organisational performance. In this study, we build on prior operations management research that has examined alignment by examining whether the competitive environment mediates or moderates the relationship between alignment and performance. Using meta-analytic procedures, we find evidence that the competitive environment functions as a mediator in the relationship between strategic alignment and organisational performance. The implications of our study are that researchers should carefully consider how the competitive environment may affect their results in strategic alignment studies. Results from our study also suggest that the environment is a salient contributing factor to a firm's performance and that managers need to pay close attention to its competitive environment when make strategic and operational decisions. Research has consistently revealed that team cohesion is positively related to team performance under certain conditions. In response to the need for understanding this relationship more fully, and because of the promising new insights that can be garnered with the use of social network analysis (SNA), this study employs SNA as a tool to explore a case study of the structural cohesiveness of two women's collegiate basketball teams. Members of the two teams completed online roster-based surveys related to different types of structural cohesion levels at four points during the season. This case study revealed that the higher performing team showed improved structural cohesion in the efficacy network over the four phases, and highlighted the movement of key players in the different networks (friendship, trust, advice, and efficacy) over time. These patterns demonstrate the potential for SNA to function as a diagnostic tool for organizations and researchers to generate testable hypotheses even in instances where statistical inference may be precluded by sampling constraints. This study considers the potentially negative consequences for corporate lead-ers of being subjected to high levels of ingratiation in the form of flattery and opinion conformity from other managers and board members. Chief executive officers (CEOs) who have acquired positions of relatively high social status in the corporate elite tend to be attractive targets of flattery and opinion confor-mity from colleagues, which can have potentially negative consequences for CEOs and their firms. Our theory suggests how high levels of flattery and opin-ion conformity can increase CEOs' overconfidence in their strategic judgment and leadership capability, which results in biased strategic decision making. Specifically, we contend that heightened overconfidence from receiving high levels of such ingratiatory behavior reduces the likelihood that CEOs will initiate needed strategic change in response to poor firm performance. We tested and confirmed our hypotheses with a dataset that includes original survey data from a large sample of U.S. CEOs, other top managers, and board members in the period 2001-2007. Further analyses suggest that strategic persistence that results from high levels of flattery and opinion conformity directed at the CEO can result in the persistence of low firm performance and may ultimately increase the likelihood of the CEO's dismissal. Although discretion among employees at organizations' lower levels seems to be increasing, it is uncertain whether this is a desirable HRM policy. To understand this issue better, this study tests competing organization theory predictions about the performance consequences of middle managers' perceived discretion. Discretion is defi ned as the freedom of action or decision authority available in managing subordinates. Survey data from a multinational, European sample of research and development (R&D) units were used to assess the effect of managers' perceived discretion on unit performance. The results show that a combination of ecology theory and strategic choice theory best predicts the relationship between discretion and unit performance. Greater perceived managerial discretion was linked to increased unit performance in a relationship moderated by managerial experience and limited by unit size. These fi ndings have implications for HRM theory and practice, particularly regarding policies related to empowerment and leadership development. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We examine the relationships between CEO personality, strategic flexibility (ability to adapt quickly to environmental changes), and firm performance, using a sample of 195 small and medium-sized firms from the Indian business process outsourcing industry. We hypothesize that strategic flexibility mediates the relationships between CEO personality and firm performance. Our results extend previous research by not only highlighting the importance of CEO personality in driving strategic flexibility, but also indicating how each facet of CEO personality either enhances or inhibits strategic flexibility. In this article, we present an anti-rolling tank solid-liquid triboelectric nanogenerators (ART-SL-TENGs) harvesting dissipated kinetic energy from the ocean in ship stabilizer to tackle the electric energy replenishment problem. The harvester mainly consists of several L-damping plates and U-tank equipped with TENGs. This paper investigates the dynamic processes of water within the tank and the potential distribution of TENGs using parameterized modeling, simulations, and experiments. The effects of external excitation, tank's initial water level, and TENG layout on the performance of ART-SL-TENGs are analyzed. During the roll motion of the tank, the water hits the outer side wall and rebounds towards the inner side wall upon collision. Due to a larger water-TENG contact area, the outer side wall generates more charges transfer than the inner side wall, resulting in a higher open-circuit voltage and a higher power. Under low-frequency excitation, the dynamic processes of water make it easier to have sufficient contact with the TENGs, exchange charges, and generate a higher voltage. The results show that the harvester generates maximum average output voltage of about 39.26 V and instantaneous power 6.49 μW under the excitation of 0.7 Hz and 90 mm amplitude at 30 mm initial water level. The ART-SL-TENGs take into account both anti-rolling characteristics and the electric energy replenishment, providing significantly a reference for the design of self-powered marine equipment in ship stabilizer. In general, the business ethics literature has treated the conceptual domains and outcomes of macro-level (industrial), meso-level (organizational), and micro-level (individual) ethical influence separately. However, this singular treatment ignores the synergies and tensions that can arise across these different types of ethical influence. Using sales as a research context, the current study argues that all three ethical frames of references are important in shaping employee behavior and performance and, as such, should be examined simultaneously. The findings show that industrial ethical climate and salesperson moral equity are positively associated with salesperson customer orientation. In addition, industrial and organizational ethical norms have a stronger joint effect on customer orientation than either ethical climate alone. More specifically, a more ethical organizational climate enhances the positive effects of the industrial ethical climate on customer orientation. Furthermore, whereas salesperson moral equity is significantly associated with salesperson customer orientation, strong moral equity beliefs in situations requiring adaptive selling result in weaker sales outcomes. Through this paper, I consider how we might be aesthetically and relationally accountable in creating research-informed theatre through the conceptual frame of an aesthetic of relationality, and in-depth considerations of the theoretical notions embodiment, imagination and foolishness (as vulnerability-bravery). Through the example of Cracked: new light on dementia, of which I am the playwright and director, I consider the ways artist-researchers foolishly and imaginatively engage in exploration from the starting point their own bodies, as socially, culturally and historically situated. Failure of stainless steel structure in high temperature polluted water environment will cause serious safety problems, so it is particularly important to study the corrosion resistance of stainless steel structure in high temperature polluted water environment. Taking 361 L stainless steel as the research object, the corrosion resistance of 361 L stainless steel in desalinated seawater environment was analyzed by electrochemical test, pitting characteristic potential test and stress corrosion test. The corrosion type and corrosion rate of stainless steel were evaluated by electrochemical noise. The results show that the corrosion of stainless steel surface is enhanced, the pitting corrosion ability of passive film on stainless steel surface is reduced, the corrosion resistance is poor, and the stress cracking of stainless steel is strengthened with the increase of environmental temperature of desalinated seawater. The electrochemical noise analysis shows that the current noise value and fluctuation amplitude are obviously increased, and the corrosion rate of stainless steel is accelerated.
