The explosion of core-collapse supernova depends on a sequence of events taking place in less than a second in a region of a few hundred kilometers at the center of a supergiant star, after the stellar core approaches the Chandrasekhar mass and collapses into a proto-neutron star, and before a shock wave is launched across the stellar envelope. Theoretical efforts to understand stellar death focus on the mechanism which transforms the collapse into an explosion. Progress in understanding this mechanism is reviewed with particular attention to its asymmetric character. We highlight a series of successful studies connecting observations of supernova remnants and pulsars properties to the theory of core-collapse using numerical simulations. The encouraging results from first principles models in axisymmetric simulations is tempered by new puzzles in 3D. The diversity of explosion paths and the dependence on the pre-collapse stellar structure is stressed, as well as the need to gain a better understanding of hydrodynamical and MHD instabilities such as SASI and neutrino-driven convection. The shallow water analogy of shock dynamics is presented as a comparative system where buoyancy effects are absent. This dynamical system can be studied numerically and also experimentally with a water fountain. The potential of this complementary research tool for supernova theory is analyzed. We present a new code, Lorene's Ghost (for Lorene's gravitational handling of spectral transport) developed to treat the problem of neutrino transport in supernovae with the use of spectral methods. First, we derive the expression for the nonrelativistic Liouville operator in doubly spherical coordinates (r, theta, phi, epsilon, Theta, Phi)$, and further its general relativistic counterpart. We use the 3 + 1 formalism with the conformally flat approximation for the spatial metric, to express the Liouville operator in the Eulerian frame. Our formulation does not use any approximations when dealing with the angular arguments (theta, phi, Theta, Phi), and is fully energy-dependent. This approach is implemented in a spherical shell, using either Chebyshev polynomials or Fourier series as decomposition bases. It is here restricted to simplified collision terms (isoenergetic scattering) and to the case of a static fluid. We finish this paper by presenting test results using basic configurations, including general relativistic ones in the Schwarzschild metric, in order to demonstrate the convergence properties, the conservation of particle number and correct treatment of some general-relativistic effects of our code. 6. Influence of pions and hyperons on stellar black hole formation

We present numerical simulations of stellar core-collapse with spherically symmetric, general relativistic hydrodynamics up to black hole formation. Using the CoCoNuT code, with a newly developed grey leakage scheme for the neutrino treatment, we investigate the effects of including pions and \Lambda-hyperons into the equation of state at high densities and temperatures on the black hole formation process. Results show non-negligible differences between the models with reference equation of state without any additional particles and models with the extended ones. For the latter, the maximum masses supported by the proto-neutron star are smaller and the collapse to a black hole occurs earlier. A phase transition to hyperonic matter is observed when the progenitor allows for a high enough accretion rate onto the proto-neutron star. 7. Solving the transport equation by the use of 6D spectral methods in spherical geometry

We present a numerical method for handling the resolution of a general transport equation for radiative particles, aimed at physical problems with a general spherical geometry. Having in mind the computational time difficulties encountered in problems such as neutrino transport in astrophysical supernovae, we present a scheme based on full spectral methods in 6d spherical coordinates. This approach, known to be suited when the characteristic length of the dynamics is much smaller than the domain size, has the potential advantage of a global speedup with respect to usual finite difference schemes. An analysis of the properties of the Liouville operator expressed in our coordinates is necessary in order to handle correctly the numerical behaviour of the solution. This reflects on a specific (spherical) geometry of the computational domain. The numerical tests, performed under several different regimes for the equation, prove the robustness of the scheme: their performances also point out to the suitability of such an approach to large scale computations involving transport physics for mass less radiative particles., Comment: 18 pages

Paleontology is the study of the evolution of life on Earth through the records left by the organisms, explaining the changes and dispersion of them as well as the modifications of the planet throughout its geological history. In view of this importance, an importantally in the process of disseminating this knowledge is the Didactic Book, material of a pedagogical nature that helps in approaching knowledge in class in a didactic way. Considering the above, the objective of this work is to investigate the approach of the theme “paleontology” in collections of scientific textbooks from the final years of elementary school. This work has a qualitative and quantitative character in the case of bibliographic research, which consisted of the analysis of Didactic Books of science in the final years of elementary school, in the municipality of Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul. The results analyzed denote a devaluation of paleontology in the materials due to the superficial, incomplete or absent approach to these issues. It was concluded that it is necessary to legitimize paleontology by Didactic Books in their collections, considering the importance of this theme in the articulation in different contents of natural sciences, as well as among the other curricular disciplines. La paleontología es el estudio de la evolución de la vida en la Tierra a través de los registros que dejan los organismos, explicando sus cambios y dispersión, así como las modificaciones del planeta a lo largo de su historia geológica. Ante esta importancia, un aliado relevante para el proceso de difusión de este conocimiento es el Libro Didáctico, un material pedagógico que ayuda a abordar el conocimiento en clase de forma didáctica. Considerando lo anterior, el objetivo de este trabajo fue investigar el abordaje del tema "paleontología" en colecciones de libros de texto científicos de los últimos años de la escuela primaria. Este trabajo tiene un carácter cualitativo y cuantitativo, siendo una investigación bibliográfica, que consistió en el análisis de los libros de texto de ciencias de los últimos años de la escuela primaria, en el municipio de Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul. Los resultados analizados muestran una devaluación de la paleontología basada en un abordaje superficial, incompleto o ausente. Se concluyó que es necesario legitimar el tema de la paleontología por los Libros Didácticos en sus colecciones, considerando la importancia de este tema en la articulación de diferentes contenidos de las ciencias naturales, así como entre las demás disciplinas curriculares. A Paleontologia é o estudo da evolução da vida na Terra através dos registros deixados pelos organismos, explicando as mudanças e dispersão dos mesmos bem como as modificações do planeta ao longo de sua história geológica. Tendo em vista tal importância, um relevante aliado para o processo de disseminação deste conhecimento é o Livro Didático, material de caráter pedagógico que auxilia na abordagem de conhecimentos em aula de forma didática. Considerando o exposto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar a abordagem da temática “paleontologia" em coleções de livros didáticos científicos dos anos finais do ensino fundamental. Este trabalho possui caráter quali-quantitativo, se tratando de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, que consistiu na análise de Livros Didáticos de ciências dos anos finais do ensino fundamental, do município de Uruguaiana, Rio Grande do Sul. Os resultados analisados denotam uma desvalorização da paleontologia a partir de uma abordagem superficial, incompleta ou ausente. Concluiu-se que se faz necessário a legitimação da temática paleontologia pelos Livros Didáticos em suas coleções, considerando a importância desta temática na articulação de diferentes conteúdos de ciências naturais, assim como entre as demais disciplinas curriculares.

Além disto, o custo da energia tem ficado cada vez mais cara no Brasil. Nesta dissertação, apresenta-se uma análise de um período de três anos do consumo de eletricidade do laboratório de telecomunicações de uma grande empresa provedora de serviços. Posteriormente, foi analisado especificamente o consumo dos roteadores de backbone do laboratório. Foram consideradas mais de 17 mil leituras em 28 dias de monitoração do consumo dos 26 roteadores que compõem a rede backbone do laboratório, contemplando durante este período de monitoração um estado de atividade normal da rede e posteriormente, momentos onde foi gerado um tráfego adicional para analisar o impacto deste no consumo energético dos roteadores, diferenciando este tráfego gerado em protocolos de transporte e aplicação. Assim, foram estudadas formas de redução no consumo de energia da rede, com análises do consumo em relação ao tráfego e desligamento de placas. Os resultados mostram que existem oportunidades para economia de energia com uma melhor utilização e alocação dos recursos dos roteadores sem comprometer o desempenho da rede, sendo possível gerar uma economia de 4,3% no consumo total do backbone, gerando uma economia efetiva no valor pago `a concessionária de energia elétrica. As leituras obtidas foram cruzadas com os dados de cobrança da empresa concessionária de energia para se mensurar o custo para manter uma rede backbone operacional. Em seguida é apresentado um modelo de serviço consciente do ponto de vista energético, onde é possível estender estes resultados obtidos na dissertação para usuários comerciais que possuem horário de funcionamento fixo. High capacity routers are consuming more power over the years. In addition, the cost of energy has become increasingly expensive in Brazil. In this dissertation, an analysis of a three-year period of the electricity consumption of the telecommunication laboratory of a large service provider is presented. Subsequently, the consumption of the backbone routers from the laboratory was analyzed. We considered more than 17 thousand readings in 28 days of power consumption monitoring of the 26 routers that make up the laboratory backbone network, contemplating during this monitoring period a normal activity state of the network and later, an additional traffic was generated to analyze the impact on the energy consumption of the routers, differentiating this traffic generated in transport and application protocols. Thus, ways of reducing the network energy consumption were studied. The results show that there are opportunities for energy savings with better utilization and allocation of routers resources without compromising network performance, resulting in savings of 4.3% in the total consumption of the backbone, generating a effective savings in the amount paid to the electric energy company. The readings obtained were cross-checked with the utility’s billing data to measure the cost to maintain an operational backbone network. Finally, an energy-conscious service model is presented, where it is possible to extend the results obtained in the dissertation to commercial users who have fixed hours of operation.

Trabalho final de mestrado para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Engenharia Eletrotécnica - Ramo de Energia Esta dissertação tem como objetivo a identificação de todas as malhas abertas em AT, como sendo possíveis de serem fechadas e avaliar o respetivo impacto em termos de redução de perdas, energia não fornecida que deve ser evitada e correntes de curto-circuito. Para o efeito são considerados diferentes cenários operacionais que incluem o cálculo da tensão nos anéis em AT os quais podem interligar injetores da Rede nacional de transporte e as contingências (aplicação do critério ‘N-1’) em MAT que possam causar sobrecargas na rede de alta tensão. De forma a avaliar estes diferentes cenários topológicos (malha aberta e fechada em AT), foi efetuada a junção das redes MAT e AT de modo a calcular a diferença de tensões nos anéis abertos visto ser a rede malhada da Rede nacional de transporte que condiciona os ângulos das tensões nos barramentos e verificar qual a melhor escolha de exploração das redes de acordo com os níveis de tensão obtidos. É ainda proposta mais do que uma abordagem em relação à análise das contingências em MAT, onde se pretende analisar o estudo das sobrecargas na rede AT quando ocorre uma determinada contingência n-1 na rede MAT. O estudo de um caso em AT geralmente é suficiente para justificar os casos mais evidentes, no entanto esta análise será mais completa considerando mais casos na rede de alta tensão para que a justificação da exploração da rede em malha fechada se torne mais convincente. Com o objetivo de minimizar a energia não fornecida é determinada a quantidade de potência que passará a ter garantia de segurança (N-1). O cálculo da corrente de curto-circuito trifásica simétrica é efetuado sem a informação da rede homopolar da rede de alta de tensão, será apenas necessário identificar os nós que tenham geração embebida de forma a representar esse gerador por uma reactância transitória direta, no entanto a corrente de curto-circuito trifásica simétrica é limitada a um valor de 31,5 kA, para a rede MAT e de 25 kA para a rede AT, caso ela atinja esses valores será rejeitada. The target of this dissertation is to explore the classification of all open meshes in high voltage, as being possible to be closed and justifying the cause of those that cannot be closed and the respective impact in terms of loss reduction, energy not supplied which should be avoided and currents of short- circuit. For this intention are illustrated different simulations, such as: the characterization of the voltage levels in the high voltage rings that can connect injectors of the national transport network, the contingencies (N-1) in the extra high voltage that can cause overloads in the high voltage network. In order to evaluate these network explorations (open and closed meshes in high voltage) and the characterization of the voltage levels in the high voltage rings, the extra high voltage and high voltage networks, with the propose to calculate the voltage difference in the open rings in High voltage, as the national transport network is a network mesh and change the angles of the voltages in the buses and to check the best choice to explore the networks according to the obtained voltage levels. It is still proposed more than an approach to the analysis of contingencies in extra high voltage, where it is intended to analyze the study of overloads in the AT network when a certain n-1 contingency occurs in the MAT network. The study of a case in high voltage is sufficient to justify the most obvious cases, however this analysis will be more complete considering more cases in the high voltage network with objective to become the justification of the closed mesh network exploration more convincing. The amount of power that will be guaranteed safety (N-1) is determined with the propose of minimize the energy not supplied. The symmetric three-phase short-circuit current calculation will be done without the information of the homopolar network of the high voltage network, only it will be necessary to identify the nodes that have an embedded generation in order to represent this generator by a direct transient reactance, however the symmetrical three-phase short-circuit current is limited to a value of 31.5 kA for the MAT network and 25 kA for the AT network, if it reaches those values it will be rejected. This thesis is about numerical simulations of core collapse supernovae, with an accent on the neutrino transport problem. Neutrinos play a central role in the explosion mechanism. Their numerical implementation is difficult, because of the very detailed knowledge needed to treat their interactions, and because of the very big demand in computational power. The first part of the thesis is on the physical contect of core collapse supernovae. Then, I introduce the numerical methods used, with an accent on the ones of the code I used all along my PhD, the CoCoNuT code. The third part of the thesis is about a drastic simplification of the neutrino treatment, namely the leakage scheme. Then, I use this scheme to study black hole formation, where I show the influence of additional particles (pions and hyperons) on black hole formation. Another proposed way of dealing with the neutrinos is with the resolution of the Boltzmann equation in general relativity. The derivation of this equation is done in the fourth part of the thesis. Then, the fifth part introduces a new numerical code to solve it. I show the numerical methods used, and tests, to show that the code works well., Les supernovas gravitationnelles sont un sujet d'étude passionnant, aussi bien par la diversité et la richesse de la physique mise en jeu que par l'émerveillement que peut exercer l'apparition d'un nouvel objet brillant dans le ciel. Les supernovas incitent les chercheurs aussi bien que les profanes au rêve et à l'imagination. Cette thèse traite des simulations numériques des supernovas gravitationnelles, et en particulier du problème du transport des neutrinos. Les neutrinos jouent un rôle crucial dans le chauffage et le refroidissement de la matière, et donc dans l'explosion d'une supernova. Leur implémentation numérique est difficile, à cause des connaissances très détaillées nécessaires pour le traitement des interactions, mais surtout à cause de la très grande exigence en temps de calcul des équations à résoudre. Après une première partie sur le contexte physique dans lequel se trouvent les supernovas gravitationnelles actuellement, je fais le point sur leur traitement numérique, avec un accent sur les méthodes numériques présentes dans le code que j'ai utilisé tout au long de ma thèse, le code CoCoNuT. Pour le traitement des neutrinos, deux pistes sont proposées. La troisième partie de cette thèse propose de fortement simplifier le traitement des neutrinos. C'est ce qui est fait dans l'implémentation du schéma de fuite, que j'ai pu par la suite utiliser pour étudier la formation de trous noirs. Dans cette optique, je montre l'influence de l'ajout de particules exotiques (pions et hypérons) sur la formation du trou noir. La présence de pions ou d'hypérons déclenche l'effondrement plus vite que dans les simulations où leur présence n'est pas prise en compte. De plus, les hypérons présentent une transition de phase, intéressante à étudier, par exemple pour la contrepartie en ondes gravitationnelles. La deuxième piste proposée pour le traitement des neutrinos est la résolution de l'équation de Boltzmann en relativité générale. La dérivation de cette équation dans le cadre de la relativité générale, et plus précisément en formalisme 3+1, fait l'objet de la quatrième partie de cette thèse. Enfin, la cinquième partie de cette thèse introduit un nouveau code de résolution numérique de l'équation de Boltzmann. Je montre d'une part les méthodes utilisées, et d'autre part des tests numériques, qui valident le bon fonctionnement du code.

O presente relatório foi desenvolvido no âmbito da Unidade Curricular de Atividade de Aprofundamento de Competências Profissionais, que integra o segundo ano do Mestrado em Reabilitação Psicomotora, da Faculdade de Motricidade Humana. O relatório descreve o estágio que decorreu no Colégio Pedro Arrupe, estando dividido em duas partes. A primeira parte integra a apresentação da instituição, bem como, uma revisão bibliográfica no âmbito do desenvolvimento global da criança, das perturbações do desenvolvimento, mais especificamente a perturbação do espectro do autismo e as perturbações específicas da aprendizagem, e a aprendizagem socioemocional. Consta ainda nesta parte uma abordagem sobre o enquadramento da psicomotricidade e a atuação do Psicomotricista na instituição, e uma reflexão crítica acerta do projeto educativo da mesma. A segunda parte reflete a componente prática desenvolvida durante o período de trabalho no Colégio Pedro Arrupe ao nível do Ensino Pré-escolar e do 1º Ciclo do Ensino Básico. Esta componente contém também a apresentação e uma análise dos estudos de caso em contexto individual e grupal, integrando o processo de avaliação e de intervenção dos mesmos. Assim sendo, o período de estágio possibilitou a integração numa equipa multidisciplinar e a realização de avaliações e intervenções no âmbito de práticas psicomotoras. This report was developed within the Curricular Unit for the Professional Skills Activity, of the Master’s in Psycomotor Therapy of the Faculdade de Motricidade Humana. The report describes the internship that took place at Colégio Pedro Arrupe, being divided into two parts. The first part includes the presentation of the establishment as well as a literature review about the child's global development, developmental disorders, more specifically the autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disorders, and socioemotional learning. There is also an approach on the psychomotricity framework and the performance of the Psychomotricist in the institution, and a critical reflection about the educational project of the establishment. The second part reflects the practical component developed during the work period at Colégio Pedro Arrupe at the level of Pre-school Education and the 1st Cycle of Basic Education. This component also includes the presentation and analysis of case studies in an individual and group context, integrating their evaluation and intervention process. Therefore, the internship period made it possible to integrate into a multidisciplinary team and carry out evaluations and interventions within the scope of psychomotor practices.
