In a number of dogs the form of the pulse-wave was studied by means of the Hurthle manometer. The arteries upon which the observations were made were the following—aorta, brachiocephalic, innominate, carotids, thyroids, vertebrals, internal mammaries, axillaries, brachials, left subclavian, celiac axis, superior mesenteric, left renal, inferior mesenteric, left iliac, deep femoral, femoral, saphenous and peripheral end of the carotid, i. e., a side branch of the circle of Willis. The exact values of the apex and base of the pressure triangles were determined from readings of the systolic and diastolic pressures obtained by means of a valved manometer.A careful study and comparison of the results has led to the following conclusions.1. In passing from the heart to the periphery the dicrotic elevation increases in distinctness and in the special case of the aotrtico-femoral system the dicrotic elevation occurs lower on the catacrotic limb of the fundamental wave. Since the summer of 1922 one of us (P. M. D.) has periodically been in charge of the inmates of a girls' camp among the Rocky Mountains. The high altitude of the camp (9,000 feet) and the naturally strenuous nature of the most important local activity (mountaineering) rendered desirable some reliable or at least suggestive test of cardiovascular efficiency. Routine examinations and grading by the method devised by E. C. Schneider 1 were therefore instituted and proved to be very helpful. There was, however, no body of observations that could serve as a guide and establish the limits of normality for the Schneider grades in girls. Consequently, three of us (M. K. D., D. M. and M. M.) undertook to supply this demand and the results of our observations are the basis of this article. The cases studied by us are not very numerous (200), but we believe that our
