1. An Interpretation of Influences of Institutionalization on the Fate of Characters in 'The Shawshank Redemption'

Abstract

Institutionalization is mentioned over and over again in film "The Shawshank Redemption". In this film, the institution refers to the fixed prison institution, and institutionalization refers to a process of rigidifying prisoners' behaviors, thoughts and mindsets in some imperceptible constraint mechanisms. In this process, the prisoners are forced to change their original behaviors, thoughts and ideas, and begin to accept, get used to and even depend on the current situation little by little. As a result, they become obedient to such prison management. They don't want or dare to change their realistic conditions, but have to depend on them for survival. The death of Brooks, pigeon Jake and Tommy, the fear of Red and the escape of Andy are all associated with institutionalization. In this paper, influences of institutionalization on the fate of characters in "The Shawshank Redemption" were analyzed. In addition, the wisdom of coping with and avoiding institutionalization was preliminarily analyzed.

2. A Pragmatic Study of Junior High School Teachers' Speech Act of Criticism from the Perspective of Politeness Principle

Abstract

Recently, there are limited specific researches on the pragmatic strategies of teachers' criticism from the angle of the Politeness Principle, among which most of them argue that teachers should adopt appropriate politeness strategies when criticizing students. However, only a few researchers point out that Leech's Politeness Principle is "other" oriented and neglects "self," which is too absolute, ideal, and unsuitable in teacher and student relations. In this paper, the author illustrates the true nature of politeness in teacher-student relations is that teachers should pay attention to self, show politeness to the students, and consider the third party (parents). Finally, the writer illustrates some politeness strategies, including criticizing with a sense of humour, criticizing in vague language, adopting empathy and showing politeness to a third party to show appropriate politeness to the students to make the criticism effective. The purpose is to make some middle school teachers recognize how to criticize appropriately.

28. Investigation and Analysis of 108 Cases of Home Isolated Patients With Mild COVID-19.

Abstract

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) began to spread across Wuhan, China, by the end of 2019, and patients were unable to be hospitalized because medical resources were limited. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 108 participants with mild COVID-19 who have isolated at home under the guidance of doctors. The results of the questionnaire and outpatient data were integrated to evaluate participants' compliance with various epidemic prevention measures. Results: During isolation, most participants were able to follow epidemic prevention measures under the guidance of doctors. After 14 d from the start of isolation, 45.37% of the participants recovered. Approximately half of the participants were relieved of symptoms, and most of them were transferred to mobile cabin hospitals to continue isolation. Three participants with worsening symptoms were transferred to the designated hospitals. There were no deaths of the participants, but there were 7 family members that were infected. Conclusions: During a period of home isolation under the guidance of a doctor, individuals can comply with epidemic prevention measures and symptoms can be improved. Scientific home isolation may be an effective way to relieve the strain of medical and social resources during the epidemic of COVID-19. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Background: Citrus fruits are economically and nutritionally important but have been severely affected by Huanglongbing disease (HLB), its natural spread is mainly by the Asian Citrus Psyllid,Diaphorina citriKuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae). Chemicals are often used to control this pest, but this is not sustainable. Meanwhile, there are few environmentally friendly bioinsecticides to control D. citriin China. Results: In this study, an entomofungal pathogen wz-1 was isolated from a D. citricarcass in the field, which resulted in a cumulative mortality rate of 75.27% in adult D. citri7 days after inoculation of the spore suspension. It was identified as Cladosporium subuliformebased on morphological analysis as well as sequence analysis of several molecular markers (Internal Transcribed Spacers, Translation Elongation Factor 1-α and Actin). Remarkably, the lethality rate of adult D. citrireached 53.13%, 48 h after treatment with the aqueous phase extracts of wz-1. Hydroxyquinoline and phytosphingosine in the extracts were identified as potentially active metabolites using LC–MS. Conclusions: The entomopathogenicity and bioinsecticidal potential of C. subuliformewere previously unknown. Obtained results showed that both spores and extracts of wz-1 can effectively kill adult D. citri, providing an available fungal resource and a theoretical basis for biocontrol of the HLB insect vector D. citri.

50. miR-6076rs1463411 polymorphisms are associated with bleeding during clopidogrel treatment in patients with acute coronary syndrome

Abstract

Bleeding is a major adverse event during clopidogrel treatment in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, the potential mechanism affecting bleeding among individuals is unclear. Herein, we investigated the involvement of CYP2C19*2and CYP2C19*3, as well as 10 miRNA polymorphisms, in bleeding in Chinese patients with ACS during the first year of clopidogrel treatment. The miR-6076rs1463411 G polymorphism was significantly associated with the risk of bleeding (P< 0.001), and the rs1463411 GT + GG genotype significantly increased the risk of bleeding (adjusted odds ratio, 6.09; 95% confidence interval, 1.09–34.0; P< 0.001). Dual luciferase assay showed that miR-6076significantly decreased the mRNA expression of P2RY12(P< 0.05). P2RY12 mRNA and protein levels were significantly lower in cells transfected with miR-6076-Gthan in cells transfected with miR-6076-T(P< 0.05). The findings indicate that miR-6076targets P2RY12mRNA and that miR-6076rs1463411 T/G polymorphisms differentially regulate P2RY12 mRNA and protein levels in cells. rs1463411 G polymorphism may increase the risk of bleeding during clopidogrel treatment in patients with ACS.
