Abstract

Hydrogen is regarded as one of the most promising energy sources of the future, due to its low-cost, zero-pollution, and high-heat value. Nevertheless, traditional methods of storing hydrogen are commonly accompanied by the risk of leaks and explosions, so how to store and transport hydrogen safely and efficiently is a critical issue that needs to be addressed. Solid-state hydrogen storage is the most attractive way to store hydrogen in nanomaterials by chemical or physical adsorption, which has the advantages of high energy density and good safety. Here, a rational Ni–Zn bimetallic MOF has been constructed by a straightforward synthetic technique, in which the Zn atom was partially replaced by the Ni atom. The micropore rate of the Ni–Zn bimetallic MOFs is higher than that of ZIF-8. In addition, the presence of Ni provides more unsaturated metal sites and strengthens the bonding between hydrogen molecules and Ni, effectively improving the hydrogen storage capacity of Ni–Zn bimetallic MOFs. The experimental results show that the hydrogen adsorption capacity of Ni–Zn bimetallic MOFs can reach 1.35 wt% at 77 K and 1 bar. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

23. Hierarchically Porous Mg-MOF-74/Sodium Alginate Composite Aerogel for CO2 Capture.

Abstract

One of the most promising methods for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) is solid physical adsorption, which is an efficient and simple technique. The key to effective CO2 capture is the development of high-performance solid adsorbents with excellent CO2 adsorption capacity, CO2/N2 selectivity, and rapid adsorption/desorption kinetics. In this paper, a Mg-MOF-74/sodium alginate composite aerogel was prepared by loading Mg-MOF-74 on sodium alginate sheets followed by directional freeze-drying. The composite aerogel exhibited a hierarchical porous structure, in which sodium alginate provided an open mesoporous/macroporous structure that promoted diffusion and contact with the active center of CO2. The Mg-MOF-74 micropores/mesopores promoted the strong interaction between CO2 and the adsorbent in the micropore and rapid mass transfer of CO2 to the adsorbent through the mesopores. The experimental data showed that MSA-6 achieved CO2 adsorption of 2.461 mmol·g–1 at 298 K. Furthermore, the CO2/N2 adsorption selectivity of MSA-6 reached 35.108, indicating its strong CO2 selective adsorption potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Three lightweight Al2O3-MgO castables were fabricated with tabular alumina or microporous corundum as the aggregates, reactive α-Al2O3 micropowder, tabular alumina powder, and fused magnesia powder as the matrix, calcium aluminate cement as the binder, and MgO ultrafine powder (d50=5.4 pm) and Al(OH)3 ultrafine powder (d50=8.2 pm) as additives. The influence of aggregates and ultrafine powders on the properties, including pore size distribution, heat conductivity, thermal shock resistance, and slag resistance of lightweight refractory castables was investigated. The results show that the incorporation of microporous corundum reduces the bulk density of Al2O3-MgO castables, and MgO and Al(OH)3 ultrafine powders further increases the proportion of micropores in castables, which is beneficial to reducing the heat conductivity, and improving the thermal shock resistance and slag resistance of castables. Abstract

The effect of the particle size (50–325 mesh) and content (0–0.1 wt%) of metallic aluminum powder on the explosive spalling resistance of corundum-based refractory castables were investigated in this study based on air permeability, pore size distribution, heat release, fracture energy and microstructural analyses. The experimental results show that the addition of Al powder significantly improves their explosive spalling resistance. As observed, the explosive spalling resistance of the castables was mainly influenced by the permeability mechanism and the fracture energy. Permeable paths were generated in the microstructure of the sample during the overlapping period between the curing process and the H2 gas forming one, derived from the Al–H2O reaction. The highest permeability level was obtained when 0.075 wt % of Al powder with size of 100 mesh was incorporated into the corundum-based refractory castables. At the same time, the fracture energy of the castable samples was increased accordingly.

Abstract

ObjectiveTo investigate the clinicopathological features and prognostic factors of periampullary carcinomas (PACs) in the pre-jaundice stage. MethodsA retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 518 patients with PACs who were admitted from January 2012 to December 2017, and according to jaundice symptom and serum total bilirubin on admission, they were divided into pre-jaundice group with 125 patients and jaundice group with 393 patients. The two groups were compared in terms of clinical data, pathological features, and 5-year survival rate, and prognostic factors were analyzed. The independent samples t-test was used for comparison of normally distributed continuous data between two groups, and the Mann-Whitney U test was used for comparison of non-normally distributed continuous data between two groups; the chi-square test was used for comparison of categorical data between two groups. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate survival rates and plot survival curves. The log-rank test was used for univariate analysis, and the Cox proportional-hazards regression model was used for multivariate analysis. Abstract

Exploiting low-cost and high-performance biochar catalysts is vital for the detoxification of organic wastewater and the resource utilization of algal biomass. Herein, CoSxcontaining biochar (CoSBC) was prepared using exogenous Co salt and endogenous Porphyrarich in S elements for enhanced degradation of carbamazepine (CBZ) by peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. 95.73% of CBZ (20 mg/L) can be removed within 20 min in CoSBC-900/PMS system with a degradation rate of 0.1287 min−1, and maintained a higher catalytic efficiency after five cycles (> 90%). Besides, the CoSBC-900/PMS system held excellent resistance over various coexisting substances, and could efficiently degrade multiple organic contaminants. Mechanism analyses revealed that 1O2and SO4•−collaborated for CBZ degradation, in which 1O2played the dominant role and 1O2mainly originated from the formation process: PMS→O2•−→1O2. The low redox potential of S species accelerated Co(II)/Co(III) circulation, while Porphyrabiochar also served as the highly active centers, producing abundant active species (SO4•−). The possible intermediate products accompanying CBZ degradation were proposed based on LC-MS analysis and the corresponding toxicity assessment verified that the CoSBC-900/PMS system possesses desirable CBZ detoxification ability. This study provides novel insight into the development of transition metal-based biochar catalysts from algal biomass for the purification of organic wastewater.
