Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are characterized by reduced pain empathy--a process that is grounded in first-hand pain perception. Because autistic traits are continuously distributed in the general population, we hypothesized that first-hand pain sensitivity would mediate the link between autistic traits and pain empathy. After controlling for alexithymia, higher autistic traits were associated with lower cognitive and emotional empathy in response to others' pain, as well as lower sensitivity to cold and heat pain (higher cold pain tolerance and lower laser heat pain-intensity ratings). Importantly, pain sensitivity fully mediated the link between autistic traits and pain empathy. These findings highlight the role of atypical first-hand pain sensitivity in the lack of pain empathy observed in people with high autistic traits or ASD.

The current study addressed whether mothers' explicitly expressed and implicitly held attitudes towards infant crying (n = 71) differ with each other and how these two types of attitudes relate to mothers' depressive symptoms during the transition to parenthood. Neither mothers' explicit nor implicit attitudes towards infant crying predicted mothers' postnatal depressive symptoms. Mothers' explicit infant-oriented attitudes (i.e. attachment and communication) were found to moderate the links between mothers' implicit attitudes of infant crying-positive attributes and mothers' postpartum depressive symptoms. The present study provides empirical support for the application of a dual process framework to understand how pregnant women perceive infants' crying. The findings suggest that mental health supports urgently needs be offered to mothers with depressive symptoms.

After discovering the molecular changes leading to cancer occurrence and progression, the revolutionary changes have occurred in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) . With the rapid development of targeted drugs, the clinical studies on uncommon mutations or fusions of ROS1, MET, RET, HER2 and BRAF V600E in NSCLC are progressing rapidly, providing more options and opportunities for treatment in the patients with NSCLC.

L -Glutamic acid (L -Glu) is a basic unit of proteins and also serves as an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Its structural properties are critical for biological functions and selective receptor recognition. Although this molecule has been extensively studied, the low frequency vibrational behavior that is closely related to conformational changes and the intermolecular interactions between L -Glu and its receptors are still unclear. In this study, we acquired the fingerprint spectrum of L -Glu by using air plasma terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy in the 0.5–18 THz range. The low frequency vibrational characteristics of L -Glu were investigated through density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The THz responses of the ligand binding domain of the NMDAR– L -Glu complex were studied by the ONIOM method, with a focus on discussing the normal modes and interactions of ligand L -Glu and water molecules. The results illustrate that THz spectroscopy exhibits a sensitive response to the influence of L -Glu on the structure of the NMDAR. The water molecules in proteins have various strong vibration modes in the THz band, showing specificity, diversity and complexity of vibrational behavior. There is potential for influencing and regulating the structural stability of the NMDAR– L -Glu complex through water molecules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditional heat conductive epoxy composites often fall short in meeting the escalating heat dissipation demands of large‐power, high‐frequency, and high‐voltage insulating packaging applications, due to the challenge of achieving high thermal conductivity (k), desirable dielectric performance, and robust thermomechanical properties simultaneously. Liquid crystal epoxy (LCE) emerges as a unique epoxy, exhibiting inherently high k achieved through the self‐assembly of mesogenic units into ordered structures. This characteristic enables liquid crystal epoxy to retain all the beneficial physical properties of pristine epoxy, while demonstrating a prominently enhanced k. As such, liquid crystal epoxy materials represent a promising solution for thermal management, with potential to tackle the critical issues and technical bottlenecks impeding the increasing miniaturization of microelectronic devices and electrical equipment. This article provides a comprehensive review on recent advances in liquid crystal epoxy, emphasizing the correlation between liquid crystal epoxy's microscopic arrangement, organized mesoscopic domain, k, and relevant physical properties. The impacts of LC units and curing agents on the development of ordered structure are discussed, alongside the consequent effects on the k, dielectric, thermal, and other properties. External processing factors such as temperature and pressure and their influence on the formation and organization of structured domains are also evaluated. Finally, potential applications that could benefit from the emergence of liquid crystal epoxy are reviewed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
