This study aims to produce a scientific temporal analysis of the psychological lived experience of Saxenda pharmacotherapy for weight loss, in relation to the psychical consequences of the drug, using a longitudinal IPA analysis of secondary public data sourced from YouTube.

Research has suggested that prejudice is associated with poorer psychological well‐being for members of LGBT groups (Syzmanski & Henrichs‐Beck, 2014). Much research in this area has focused on intrapersonal processes in helping people to cope with stress and stigma, such as having social support (Lehavot & Simoni, 2011) and internalised negative views towards LGBT groups (internalised heterosexism; Syzmanski, 2006). However, it is also important to consider group processes as well, Indeed, in recent years, there has been a growing interest in the role of social identification on psychological well‐being (for a review, see Jetten et al., 2017). For example, research has suggested that being accepted into a group increases positive well‐being (Greenaway et al., 2015) and that interventions that improve identification with a group increases psychological well‐being (Haslam et al., 2016). Previously, we found that belonging to numerous social groups was associated with better psychological well-being in people who identified as LGBT. In this study, we aim to see the processes through which the relationship occurs. Previous research has found that belonging to a social identity promotes well-being by helping individuals fulfil psychological needs (Greenaway et al., 2016). These needs include control over one's life, a sense of belonging, self-esteem, and by providing a meaningful purpose in life. We will assess whether the relationships found in our previous research are mediated by these psychological needs.
