Objectives: Compliance in outpatients with gastrointestinal (GI) malabsorption is key in nutritional treatment. The objective of this study was to assess compliance in patients with GI impairment and malnutrition taking a high-calorie, high-protein, peptide-based oral nutritional supplement (ONS-PBD)., Methods: A prospective, multicenter, observational study was conducted in 19 medical sites in Spain where ONS-PBD were prescribed as standard of care. Patients consumed ONS-PBD daily for 12 wk. Compliance was calculated as the percentage consumed of the prescribed amount of ONS per day., Results: A total of 90 adult patients were included in the study, of whom 64 completed the 12-wk regimine. Mean compliance was 78.8% ± 24.5%. Risk of malnutrition decreased in 56.3% of patients at 12 wk, as measured with the malnutrition universal screening tool. A reduction in abdominal pain was observed and stool consistency improved, with a mean of 54.7% and 27.5%, respectively. Improvements in quality of life and a decrease in percentage of patients with severe functional impairment were observed., Conclusions: These data show that ONS-PBD compliance in malnourished patients with GI symptoms is high, reducing GI symptoms and improving patients' nutritional status., (Copyright © 2022 The Author(s). Introduction: Aim: to present the results of the Spanish home enteral nutrition (HEN) registry of the NADYA-SENPE group for the years 2018 and 2019. Material and methods: from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019 the home enteral nutrition registry was recorded, and afterwards a further descriptive and analytical analysis was done. Results: in 2018, 4756 active patients were registered and the prevalence was 101.79 patients per one million inhabitants; in 2019 there were 4633 patients with a prevalence of 98.51 patients per one million inhabitants. They originated in 46 hospitals: 51.3 % were male, and median age was 71.0 years in both periods. The most frequent diagnosis was a neurological disorder that presents with aphagia or severe dysphagia - 58.7 % and 58.2 %, respectively. The main cause of episode termination was death. A total of 116 pediatric patients were registered in 2018 and 115 in 2019. Females represented 57.8 % and 59.1 %, respectively, in each of the periods. Median age at the beginning of HEN was 5 and 7 months. The most commonly recordered diagnostic group (42.2 % and 42.6 %) was included within the other pathologies group, followed by neurological disorders that present with aphagia or severe dysphagia in 41.4 % and 41.7 % of children. The route of administration was gastrostomy in 46.6 % and 46.1 %, respectively, in each of the periods. Conclusions: the NED registry of the NADYA-SENPE group continues to operate uninterruptedly since its inception. The number of registered patients and the number of participating hospitals remained stable in the last biennium analyzed.

Introduction: Aim: to communicate the home parenteral nutrition (HPN) data obtained from the HPN registry of the NADYA-SENPE group (www.nadya-senpe.com) for the year 2019. Material and methods: a descriptive analysis of the data collected from adult and pediatric patients with HPN in the NADYA-SENPE group registry from January 1 to December 31, 2019. Results: a total of 283 patients (51.9 % women), 31 children, and 252 adults from 47 Spanish hospitals were registered, which represents a prevalence rate of 6.01 patients per million inhabitants for year 2019. The most frequent diagnosis in adults was "palliative oncological" and "others" (21.0 %). In children, it was Hirschsprung's disease together with necrotizing enterocolitis, alterations in intestinal motility, and chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, with 4 cases each (12.9 %). The first reason for the indication was short-bowel syndrome in both children (51.6 %) and adults (37.3 %). The most used type of catheter was tunnelled both in children (75.9 %) and in adults (40.8 %). Sixty-eight episodes ended, all in adults, and the most frequent cause was death (54.4 %); 38.2 % were switched to oral. Conclusions: the number of collaborating centers and professionals in the NADYA registry is increasing. The main indications and reasons for HPN termination remain stable.

Introduction: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease in which specialized nutritional support is essential. The objectives of our study were to describe nutritional support at the beginning of follow-up and its impact on anthropometry and survival., Methods: An interhospital registry was created for the hospitals of Castilla-León through a web platform designed for this purpose. An anamnesis was carried out on the evolution and nutritional history of the disease; and classical anthropometry was determined. The prescribed nutritional treatment was recorded. The parameters were measured at the beginning, at six and twelve months of nutritional follow-up., Results: A total of 93 patients [49 (52.7%) spinal; 44 (47.3%) bulbar)] were analyzed. The nutritional support route at the beginning was oral diet in 36 (38.7%) patients; oral nutritional supplementation (SON) in 46 (49.5%) patients; and in 11 (11.8%) patients percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). A decrease in the body mass index (BMI) was observed between the first and second visit [Start: 24.18 (3.29) kg/m 2 ; 6 months: 23.69 (4.12) kg/m 2 ; P < .05]. Less weight loss was observed at 6 months compared to the start of nutritional follow-up [Start: 8.09 (8.72)%; 6 months: 1.4 (6.29)%; P < .01]. 36 (38.7%) patients died but with no differences according to when nutritional support was started. Survival from the onset of symptoms was higher in the group of patients with artificial nutrition, although without reaching statistical significance [Oral: 28 (20.25) months; SON: 30 (16.75-48.25) months; PEG: 39 (27-52) months; P = .90]., Conclusions: Patients with ALS present a severe deterioration in nutritional status before the start of nutritional support. Background: Malnutrition is a prognostic factor in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Sometimes, this condition is underdiagnosed, and it might influence on disease progression., Aims: To evaluate a) nutritional status at the beginning of specialized nutritional treatment and b) the influence of initial nutritional status on disease evolution and survival in a group of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)., Methods: An interhospital registry of patients with motor neuron disease treated at the Clinical Nutrition Clinics of six hospitals in the region of Castilla y León in Spain was created. The study was developed from January 2015 to December 2017. An anamnesis, affiliation data, past medical history, disease evolution, nutritional history and an anthropometry and bioelectrical impedance analysis were performed at baseline. The mortality rate was compared among those patients with worse nutritional status at the beginning of the follow-up against those with a better nutritional situation using two tools: The Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and the criteria of the Global Leadership Initiative for Malnutrition (GLIM)., Results: A total of 93 patients were analysed. The median age of the patients was 67 (57.5-75.5) years. The median Body Mass Index was 24.4 (21.7-25.9) kg/m 2 and the median percentage of weight loss was 9.32 (2.7-17.6)% without differences between the onset type. According to the SGA, 27 (29%) patients were in grade A; 43 (46.3%) patients were in grade B and 23 (24.7%) were in grade C. According to the new GLIM malnutrition criteria, 45 patients (48.4%) had malnutrition. Patients with worse nutritional status had a lower survival median with both SGA (SGA A: 20.5 (10.2-35) months vs SGA B-C: 12 (5.2-23.7) months (p = 0.03)) or the new GLIM criteria according to severity (severe malnutrition: 18 (5-24) months vs. no severe malnutrition: 20 (12-33) months (p = 0.01)). In the multivariate analysis, malnutrition measured by SGA was an independent risk factor (HR: 4.6 (1.5-13.9) p = 0.007) for survival over 15 months when adjusted for age, sex and type of onset of ALS., Conclusions: Patients with ALS have a severe deterioration in nutritional status when analysed using a classical malnutrition test (SGA) or a new one (GLIM criteria). Introduction: Aim: to communicate home parenteral nutrition (HPN) data obtained from the HPN registry of the NADYA-SENPE group (www.nadya-senpe.com) for the year 2018 Material and methods: descriptive analysis of the data collected from adult and pediatric patients with HPN in the NADYA-SENPE group registry from January 1st, 2018 to December 31st, 2018. Results: there were 278 patients from 45 Spanish hospitals (54.7% women), 23 children and 255 adults, which represent a prevalence rate of 5.95 patients/million inhabitants/year 2018. The most frequent diagnosis in adults was "palliative cancer" (22.0%), followed by "others". In children it was Hirschsprung's disease together with necrotizing enterocolitis, with four cases (17.4%). The first indication was short bowel syndrome in both children (60.9%) and adults (35.7%). The most frequently used type of catheter was tunneled in both children (81.0%) and adults (41.1%). Ending 75 episodes, the most frequent cause was death (52.0%) and change to oral feeding (33.3%). Conclusions: the number of centers and collaborating professionals in the registry of patients receiving HPN remains stable, as well as the main indications and reasons for termination of HPN.

Introduction: Background: there is a high number of dependent older adults with risk of malnutrition in the institutionalized geriatric population. Among others, the related factors are weight loss inherent to age, which favors frailty and sarcopenia, low body mass index (BMI) and the worsening of chronic diseases, which entails a deterioration in the quality of life. Objective: to analyze the relationship between dependence and nutritional status in elderly institutionalized people. Method: prospective observational and descriptive study in a sample of elderly institutionalized people. Dependence was studied by the Barthel index, sex, BMI, presence of chronic diseases and nutritional status with the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA). The association between the different variables was made with the Spearman correlation. Results: one hundred and sixty-four patients were included in the study; 45.10% (n = 74) of the patients had a total dependence and 18.30% (n = 30) had a moderate dependence. Women had a higher risk of total dependence than men (p < 0.0001). There was a significant relationship between the level of dependence and nutritional status, so that greater dependence increased the risk of malnutrition (p < 0.0001). Patients who were underweight had a greater risk of total dependence (RR 11.05 [95% CI 4.41, 27.7]). Patients with dementia were more dependent (p < 0.0001). Conclusion: most of the institutionalized elderly people presented some degree of dependence, which supposed a risk for the nutritional status that was aggravated if they suffered dementia and low weight.

Objective: To communicate HPN data obtained from the HPN registry of the NADYA-SENPE group (www.nadya-senpe.com) for the year 2016., Material and Methods: Descriptive analysis of the data collected from adult and pediatric patients with HPN in the NADYA-SENPE group registry from January 1st, 2016 to December 31st, 2016., Results: There were 286 patients from 42 Spanish hospitals (54.2% women), 34 children and 252 adults, with 294 episodes, which represent a prevalence rate of 6.16 patients / million inhabitants / year 2016. The most frequent diagnosis in adults was "palliative cancer" (25.8%), followed by "others". In children it was "motility alterations" with 6 cases (17.6%), Hirschsprung's disease and necrotising enterocolitis, both with 5 children (14.7%). The first indication was short bowel syndrome in both children (64.7%) and adults (37.3%), followed by intestinal obstruction in 28.6% adults and 14.7% in children. The most frequently used type of catheter was tunnelled in both children (70.6%) and adults (37.9%). The most frequent complication in adults was infection related to the catheter, which presented a rate of 0.48 infections / 1,000 days of NPD. During this period, 71 episodes ended in adults and the main cause was death (57.7%) followed by resuming the oral route (31%)., Conclusions: There is a progressive increase of centers and professional collaborators in the registry who report patients receiving parenteral nutrition at home. The main indications of HPN and the motive for ending have remained stable.

Objetivo: Comunicar los datos del registro de Nutrición Parenteral Domiciliaria (NPD) del grupo de trabajo NADYA-SENPE del años 2015.Material y métodos: Recopilación de los datos de NPD del registro "on-line" del grupo de Nutrición Artificial Domiciliaria y Ambulatoria (NADYA) desde el 1 de enero de 2015 al 31 de diciembre de 2015.Resultados: Se registraron 236 pacientes, con 243 episodios de NPD procedentes de 40 hospitales. Lo que representa una tasa de 5,08 pacientes/millón de habitantes/ año 2015. La patología más frecuente en los adultos fue "otros" (26,3%) seguido por "oncológico paliativo" (21,6%).  La complicación más frecuente fue la séptica relacionada con el catéter que presentó una tasa de 0,53 infecciones/1000 días de NPD. Finalizaron 64 episodios, la principal causa fue el fallecimiento (43,7%) y el 'paso a la vía oral' (32,8%).Conclusiones: constatamos el aumento de los centros y profesionales colaboradores, dando respuesta a la cantidad progresivamente mayor de pacientes con soporte nutricional parenteral en domicilio. Se mantienen estables las principales indicaciones para el establecimiento de NPD y las causas de finalización del tratamiento.

Aim: To present the results of the Spanish home enteral nutrition (HEN) registry of the NADYA-SENPE group for the year 2013., Material and Methods: From January 1st to December 31st 2013 data was recorded for the HEN registry and further descriptive and analytical analysis was done., Results: In this period 3 223 patients (50.6% men) and a total of 3 272 episodes of HEN were registered in 33 Spanish hospitals. The rate of prevalence was of 67,11 patients/million habitants/ year 2013. A high percentage of patients (98,24%) were older than 14 years. Adult's mean age was 69,14 years (sd 17,64) and men were younger than women p-value <0,001. Children mean age was 2,38 years (sd 4,35). The most frequent indication for HEN was neurological disease for children (49,1%). and for adults (60,6%). Gastrostomy was the most used administration route for children (51%) while younger ones were fed with NGT (p-value 0,003) also older adults (48%) were fed with this type of tube (p-value <0,001). The most frequent reasons for cessation of treatment was death, 44,4% were children and 54,7% were adults., Conclusions: The number of patients and hospitals registered increased in the last years while the other variables maintain steady.
