Abstract

A new multi-modality imaging tool is under development in the frameowrk of the INSERT (Integrated SPECT/MRI for Enhanced Stratification in Radio-chemo Therapy) project, supported by the European Community. The final goal is to develop a custom SPECT apparatus, that can be used as insert for commercially available MRI systems such as 3 T MRI with 59 com bore diameter. INSERT is expected to offer more effective and earlier diagnosis with potentially better outcome in survival for the treatment of brain tumors, primarily glioma. Two SPECT prototypes will be developed, on dedicated to predinical imaging, the second one dedicated to clinical imaging.

Abstract

A new multi-modality imaging tool is under development in the framework of the INSERT (INtegrated SPECT/MRI for Enhanced Stratification in Radio-chemoTherapy) project, supported by the European Community. A custom SPECT apparatus, used as an insert for commercially available MRI systems, will enhance the treatment of brain tumors (primarily glioma) by offering more effective and earlier diagnosis with potentially better outcome in survival. The project aims to develop two SPECT prototypes, dedicated to preclinical and clinical imaging. The final goal is to fit the complete SPECT detection system into an existing MRI bore (diameter: 20 cm for the preclinical system and 59 cm for the clinical system). In this work, we propose the use of two possible photodetecors for the scintillator readout: Silicon Drift Detectors and Silicon PhotoMultipliers. A comparison between the main parameters of the two technologies as well as simulations about the achievable energy and spatial resolution are presented.

12. Multi-Layer Organic Squaraine-Based Photodiode for Indirect X-Ray Detection

Abstract

The paper presents an organic-based photodiode coupled to a CsI(Tl) scintillator to realize an X-ray detector. A suitable blend of an indolic squaraine derivative and of fullerene derivative has been used for the photodiode, thus allowing external quantum efficiency in excess of 10% at a wavelength of 570 nm, well matching the scintillator output spectrum. Thanks to the additional deposition of a 15 nm thin layer of a suitable low electron affinity polymer, carriers injection from the metal into the organic semiconductor has been suppressed, and dark current density as low as 1 nA/cm 2 has been obtained, which is comparable to standard Si-based photodiodes. By using a collimated X-ray beam impinging onto the scintillator mounted over the photodiode we have been able to measure current variations in the order of 150 pA on a dark current floor of less than 50 pA when operating the X-ray tube in switching mode, thus proving the feasibility of indirect X-ray detection by means of organic semiconductors. © 2012 IEEE.

45. Synthesis, Characterization, and Olefin/CO Exchange Reactions of Copper(I) Derivatives Containing Bidentate Oxygen Ligands

Abstract

New hexafluoroacetylacetonate (hfacac) and trifluoroacetato olefin complexes of copper(I) of the general formulas Cu(hfacac)(olefin) and Cu(CF3COO)(olefin) have been prepared from Cu2O/hfacacH/olefin or Cu(CF3COO)(toluene)0.5/olefin systems. The structures of [Cu(hfacac)(coe)], [Cu(hfacac)(van)], [Cu(μ-CF3COO)(tbve)]n, and [Cu(μ-CF3COO)(van)]2·C7H8 have been determined by X-ray diffraction methods, where coe = cyclooctene, van = 4-vinylanisole, and tbve = tert-butyl vinyl ether. In the solid state, the 4-vinylanisole/trifluoroacetate complex [Cu(CF3COO)(van)]2 is dimeric with two carboxylato groups symmetrically bridging two copper atoms, while the tert-butyl vinyl ether derivative [Cu(μ-CF3COO)(tbve)]n is polymeric with single [CF3COO]- bridges between adjacent copper atoms. Olefin hfacac complexes are monomeric, and considering the two oxygen atoms and the midpoint of the double bond of the coordinated olefin, the copper atom lies in a nearly trigonal-planar environment. The carbonylation reactions of Cu(CF3COO)(olefin), (olefin = tbve, van; 2Cu(CF3COO)(olefin) + 2CO &lrarr2; [Cu(CF3COO)(CO)]2 + 2(olefin)) and of Cu(hfacac)(olefin) (olefin = coe, 1,5-cyclooctadiene (cod), norbornene (nbe), van; Cu(hfacac)(olefin) + CO &lrarr2; Cu(hfacac)(CO) + olefin) have been studied gas volumetrically, and the equilibrium constants for the displacement of the coordinated olefin by carbon monoxide have been determined at different temperatures. Some hypotheses on the copper−olefin bond have been formulated on the basis of structural, thermodynamic and spectroscopic (13C NMR) data.

46. Olefin Trifluoroacetato Derivatives of Copper(I) and Their Olefin/CO Exchange Reactions

Abstract

Compounds of the general formula Cu(CF3COO)(olefin) (olefin = cyclooctene (coe), 1,5-cyclooctadiene (cod), diethylfumarate (defu), methylcinnamate (meci)) have been prepared, and the molecular structures have been solved by X-ray diffraction for olefin = coe, defu, meci. The complexes feature a dimeric [Cu2(μ-CF3COO)2(olefin)2] core with bridging trifluoroacetates and a η2-bonded olefin. In the case of the defu and meci complexes, [Cu2(μ-CF3COO)2(olefin)2] dimeric units are linked by the oxygen atom of a carbonyl group of the ester to give polymeric chains. The compound [Cu2(μ-CF3COO)2(meci)2]n is the first structurally characterized example of a metal-bonded methylcinnamate. By recrystallization of [Cu2(CF3COO)2(cod)2], a derivative featuring a cod/Cu molar ratio of 0.5 has been isolated and structurally characterized as [Cu2(μ-CF3COO)2(μ-cod)]n, which represents the first example of a polymeric metal complex containing a bridging cod ligand. The carbonylation reaction of [Cu(CF3COO)(olefin)]2 (olefin = coe, cod, defu; 2Cu(CF3COO)(olefin) + 2CO &rlarr2; [Cu(CF3COO)(CO)]2 + 2(olefin)) has been studied gas volumetrically, and the equilibrium constants are 12.6 ± 2.4 M-1 (298.3 K, cod), (6.3 ± 3.2) × 102 M-1 (293.2 K, coe), and (1.1 ± 0.7) × 107 M-1 (293.2 K, defu). The enthalpy changes, obtained from variable-temperature experiments, are −46 ± 4 (olefin = cod), −71 ± 17 (coe), and −112 ± 20 kJ mol-1 (defu). These data for copper(I) are compared with those obtained for the 3d3 V(II) and 5d10 Au(I) systems VCp2(CO) and AuCl(CO).

Abstract

Pt(II) alkylidene 1a has been reacted with terminal alkynes to afford ylide complexes 3a-d, resulting from electrophilic activation of the CC bond and its insertion into the platinacyclic fragment of 1a that contains the carbene functionality. DFT calculations indicate that the observed regioselectivity is determined by the nucleophilic attack of the alkyne to the alkylidene carbon.

50. Dinuclear Cu(I) Halides with Terphenyl Phosphines: Synthesis, Photophysical Studies, and Catalytic Applications in CuAAC Reactions.

Abstract

Several dinuclear terphenyl phosphine copper(I) halide complexes of composition [CuX(PR 2 Ar')] 2 (X = Cl, Br, I; R = hydrocarbyl, Ar' = 2,6-diarylterphenyl radical), 1 - 5 , have been isolated from the reaction of CuX with 1 equiv of the phosphine ligand. Most of them have been characterized by X-ray diffraction studies in the solid state, thus allowing comparative discussions of different structural parameters, namely, Cu···Cu and Cu···Aryl separations, conformations adopted by coordinated phosphines, and planarity of the Cu 2 X 2 cores. Centrosymmetric complexes [CuI(PMe 2 Ar Xyl2 )] 2 , 1c , and [CuI(PEt 2 Ar Mes2 )] 2 , 3c , despite their similar structures, show very distinct photoluminescence (PL) in powder form at room temperature. The photophysical behavior of these compounds in liquid solution, solid-solid Zeonex solution and powder samples at room temperature and 77 K have been investigated and supported by DFT calculation. Identification of vibronic coupling modes, done by group theory calculations and the technique of projection operators, shows that the manifestation of these modes is conditioned by crystal packing. Complexes [CuI(PMe 2 Ar Xyl2 )] 2 , 1c , and [CuI(PEt 2 Ar Mes2 )] 2 , 3c , display remarkable activity in copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reactions involving preformed and in situ-made azides. Reactions are performed in H 2 O, under aerobic conditions, with low catalyst loadings and tolerate the use of iodoalkynes as substrates.
