A novel series of potential biologically active new cinnamoyl amides were synthesized in good yield and short reaction times. We have studied the one-pot, solvent-free reaction of cinnamic acid derivatives with aromatic amines using 1,3-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide under microwave irradiation in the presence of small quantities of dimethylformamide to improve energy transfer. Novel 10-{[3-(6-hydroxy-2,2-dimethyltetrahydrofuro[2,3-d][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)-4,5-dihydro-5-isoxazolyl]methyl}-9(10H)-acridinone derivatives (13-16) were synthesized by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition using the carbohydrate derivative as dipole and different 10-allyl-9(10H)-acridinone derivatives (9-12) as dipolarophiles. One-pot syntheses of 5H-[1,3]thiazolo[2,3-b]quinazolin-5-one, 12H-[1,3]benzothiazolo[2,3-b]quinazolin-12-one, and corresponding derivatives were developed using the copper-catalyzed Ullmann condensation. The Ullmann condensation between 2-chlorobenzoic acid and 2-amino-6-methyl pyridine in DMF as solvent yielded 2-[(6-methyl-2-pyridinyl)amino] benzoic acid. The cyclization of this acid gave two isomers, the 9-methyl-11H-pyrido[2,1-b]quinazolin-11-one and, in a minor quantity, 2-methylbenzo[b][1,8]naphtyridin-5(10H)-one.
