Abstract

Recent empirical studies have highlighted the large degree of analytic flexibility in data analysis which can lead to substantially different conclusions based on the same data set. Thus, researchers have expressed their concerns that these researcher degrees of freedom might facilitate bias and can lead to claims that do not stand the test of time. Even greater flexibility is to be expected in fields in which the primary data lend themselves to a variety of possible operationalizations. The multidimensional, temporally extended nature of speech constitutes an ideal testing ground for assessing the variability in analytic approaches, which derives not only from aspects of statistical modeling, but also from decisions regarding the quantification of the measured behavior. In the present study, we gave the same speech production data set to 46 teams of researchers and asked them to answer the same research question, resulting insubstantial variability in reported effect sizes and their interpretation. Using Bayesian meta-analytic tools, we further find little to no evidence that the observed variability can be explained by analysts’ prior beliefs, expertise or the perceived quality of their analyses. In light of this idiosyncratic variability, we recommend that researchers more transparently share details of their analysis, strengthen the link between theoretical construct and quantitative system and calibrate their (un)certainty in their conclusions.

Abstract

Dynamiques de citoyenneté, d'éco-citoyenneté, de réseaux, de médias, de territoires, de culture et d'interculturalité. Pratiques journalistiques, innovations numériques, nouvelles formes de savoir, mouvements sociaux et divulgation des sciences… Autant de problématiques et de pratiques que l'approche communicationnelle relient. En croisant les regards théoriques et empiriques, cet ouvrage offre une contribution à la compréhension et à l'analyse des logiques d'actions et de construction des savoirs dans un espace méditerranéen en pleine mutation. Car, depuis près de trois décennies, par vagues successives, les relations scientifiques entre chercheurs en communication du nord et du sud de la Méditerranée ne cessent de s'intensifier. Il semble émerger sinon une identité méditerranéenne contemporaine, du moins des dynamiques et mouvements qui renvoient à un patrimoine commun issu d'une l'histoire millénaire et qui se traduit aujourd'hui dans les paradoxes d'une unité plurielle. Cet ouvrage apporte aussi la preuve que le champ de la communication favorise le dépassement des frontières institutionnelles et académiques, et nourrit une réflexion commune entre chercheurs de l'Université et du CNRS.

13. Les communs de connaissance dans les « fablabs »

Abstract

Les connaissances, au cœur de la création de valeur pour l’entreprise, font l’objet de nombreux conflits d’appropriation qui ont donné naissance à un mouvement critique pour préserver des communs de connaissance (E. Ostrom). Des structures comme les fablabs, basées sur le faire ensemble, cherchent également à lutter contre cette privatisation de la connaissance. À partir de deux variables déterminant la nature d’un commun de connaissance (mode de gouvernance et systèmes de droits de propriété), les auteurs observent dans six « fablabs » quels facteurs favorisent ou freinent les projets en commun et pour le commun., Starting from two variables determining the nature of a common knowledge (the mode of governance and the systems of property rights), we make the hypothesis that the dynamic of contributory self-organized production of knowledge, emblematic of the fablabs, related to a common knowledge as defined by Hess and Ostrom (2007) and in this sense is a new lever for entrepreneurship. To evaluate the relevance of this hypothesis, we will confront these theoritical arguments with an empirical study of various actors of six fablabs. We’ll see which variables must be at the heart of fablab governance to promote projects in common and for the common.
