2. Global parameterizations of $\pi\pi$ scattering with dispersive constraints: beyond the S0 wave

We provide new global parameterizations of $\pi\pi$ scattering for the S2, P, D, F, and G partial waves up to at least 1.8 GeV, easy to implement for phenomenological use. With earlier S0-wave parameterizations, slightly updated here, they reproduce previous partial wave dispersion analyses up to the $\pi\omega$ threshold. In addition, these new parameterizations have improved their description of recent P-wave data, the inelasticity in various waves, and their fulfillment of Roy-like and forward dispersion relations. The latter now test very high partial waves and have an improved matching with the Regge regime, extending those with P-wave contributions up to 1.6 GeV. Above 1.6 GeV and up to 1.8 GeV, or sometimes somewhat beyond, the parameterizations are simple unconstrained fits to data., Comment: 36 pages, 20 figures

5. Dispersive $\pi\pi\rightarrow K\bar K$ amplitude and giant CP violation in B to three light-meson decays at LHCb

The LHCb collaboration has recently reported the largest CP violation effect from a single amplitude, as well as other giant CP asymmetries in several $B$-meson decays into three charmless light mesons. It is also claimed that this is predominantly due to $\pi\pi\rightarrow K\bar K$ rescattering in the final state, particularly in the 1 to 1.5 GeV region. In these analyses the $\pi\pi\rightarrow K\bar K$ amplitude is by default estimated from the $\pi\pi$ elastic scattering amplitude and does not describe the existing $\pi\pi\rightarrow K\bar K$ scattering data. Here we show how the recent model-independent dispersive analysis of $\pi\pi\rightarrow K\bar K$ data can be easily implemented in the LHCb formalism. This leads to a more accurate description of the asymmetry, while being consistent with the measured scattering amplitude and confirming the prominent role of hadronic final state interactions, paving the way for more elaborated analyses., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures. Branching ratios for the decay of hadrons with large width or near thresholds depend on their definition. We test different definitions and show that rather different branching ratios can be obtained. For wide resonances and for sequential decays with wide intermediate resonances, integration over the spectral functions is mandatory. The tests are performed exploiting the latest solution of the Bonn-Gatchina multi-channel analysis and published values for residues of light scalar mesons. For a resonance overlapping with a threshold, in case its pole lies in a non-adjacent sheet, we show how the total width, needed for the branching ratios, does not correspond to the imaginary part of the pole position. We use the Madrid-Krakow dispersive parameterizations to illustrate this situation with the $f_0(980)$., Comment: Report, 9 pages (extended to light scalar mesons)

7. Dispersive determination of low energy $\pi K$ interactions

We summarize the application of dispersion relations for the determination of low energy $\pi K$ interactions. In particular, we present our recent dispersive analyses for the complete study of both $\pi K\to \pi K$ and $\pi \pi \rightarrow K \bar K$ channels. First, we summarize our approach, we study both channels by using several families of dispersion relations and present the most relevant partial waves. For several decades, the $\sigma/f_0(500)$ and $\kappa/K_0^*(700)$ resonances have been subject to long-standing debate. Both their existence and properties were controversial until very recently. In this tutorial review we compare model-independent dispersive and analytic techniques versus unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory, when applied to the lightest scalar mesons $\sigma/f_0(500)$ and $\kappa/K_0^*(700)$. Generically, the former have settled the long-standing controversy about the existence of these states, providing a precise determination of their parameters, whereas unitarization of chiral effective theories allows us to understand their nature, spectroscopic classification and dependence on QCD parameters. 9. Dispersive $\pi K\to \pi K$ and $\pi \pi \to K \bar{K}$ amplitudes from scattering data, threshold parameters and the lightest strange resonance $\kappa$ or $K^*_0(700)$

We discuss the simultaneous dispersive analyses of $\pi K\to \pi K$ and $\pi \pi \to K \bar{K}$ scattering data and the $\kappa/K^*_0(700)$ resonance. The unprecedented statistics of present and future Hadron Experiments, modern Lattice QCD calculations, and the wealth of new states and decays, require such precise and model-independent analyses to describe final state interactions. We review the existing and often conflicting data and explain in detail the derivation of the relevant dispersion relations, maximizing their applicability range. Next, we review and extend the caveats on some data, showing their inconsistency with dispersion relations. Our main result is the derivation and compilation of precise amplitude parameterizations constrained by several $\pi K\to \pi K$ and $\pi \pi \to K \bar{K}$ dispersion relations. These constrained parameterizations are easily implementable and provide the rigor and accuracy needed for modern experimental and phenomenological Hadron Physics. As applications, after reviewing their status and interest, we will provide new precise threshold and subthreshold parameters and review our dispersive determination of the controversial $\kappa/K^*_0(700)$ resonance and other light-strange resonances., Comment: 148 pages, 53 figures. 10. Determination of the lightest strange resonance $K_0^*(700)$ or $\kappa$, from a dispersive data analysis

In this work we present a precise and model-independent dispersive determination from data of the existence and parameters of the lightest strange resonance $\kappa/K_0^*(700)$. We use both subtracted and unsubtracted partial-wave hyperbolic and fixed-$t$ dispersion relations as constraints on combined fits to $\pi K\rightarrow\pi K$ and $\pi\pi\rightarrow K\bar K$ data. 11. Global parameterization of $\pi \pi$ scattering up to 2 GeV

We provide global parameterizations of $\pi\pi$ scattering $S0$ and $P$ partial waves up to roughly 2 GeV for phenomenological use. These parameterizations describe the output and uncertainties of previous partial-wave dispersive analyses of $\pi\pi$, both in the real axis up to 1.12 GeV and in the complex plane within their applicability region, while also fulfilling forward dispersion relations up to 1.43 GeV. Above that energy we just describe the available experimental data. Moreover, the analytic continuations of these global parameterizations also describe accurately the dispersive determinations of the $\sigma/f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$ and $\rho(770)$ pole parameters., Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures

12. $\pi \pi \rightarrow K \bar{K}$ scattering up to 1.47 GeV with hyperbolic dispersion relations

In this work we provide a dispersive analysis of $\pi\pi \rightarrow K\bar{K}$ scattering. For this purpose we present a set of partial-wave hyperbolic dispersion relations using a family of hyperbolas that maximizes the applicability range of the hyperbolic dispersive representation, which we have extended up to 1.47 GeV. We then use these equations first to test simple fits to different and often conflicting data sets, also showing that some of these data and some popular parameterizations of these waves fail to satisfy the dispersive analysis. Our main result is obtained after imposing these new relations as constraints on the data fits. We thus provide simple and precise parameterizations for the S, P and D waves that describe the experimental data from $K\bar K$ threshold up to 2 GeV, while being consistent with crossing symmetric partial-wave dispersion relations up to their maximum applicability range of 1.47 GeV. For the $S$-wave we have found that two solutions describing two conflicting data sets are possible. The dispersion relations also provide a representation for $S$, $P$ and $D$ waves in the pseudo-physical region., Comment: 27 pages, 19 figures. Errata corrected and references added. This volume is a short summary of talks given at the PKI2018 Workshop organized to discuss current status and future prospects of pi-K interactions. The precise data on pi-K interaction will have a strong impact on strange meson spectroscopy and form factors that are important ingredients in the Dalitz plot analysis of a decays of heavy mesons as well as precision measurement of Vus matrix element and therefore on a test of unitarity in the first raw of the CKM matrix. The workshop has combined the efforts of experimentalists, Lattice QCD, and phenomenology communities. Experimental data relevant to the topic of the workshop were presented from the broad range of different collaborations like CLAS, GlueX, COMPASS, BaBar, BELLE, BESIII, VEPP-2000, and LHCb. One of the main goals of this workshop was to outline a need for a new high intensity and high precision secondary KL beam facility at JLab produced with the 12 GeV electron beam of CEBAF accelerator. This workshop is a successor of the workshops Physics with Neutral Kaon Beam at JLab [1] held at JLab, February, 2016; Excited Hyperons in QCD Thermodynamics at Freeze-Out [2] held at JLab, November, 2016; New Opportunities with High-Intensity Photon Sources [3] held at CUA, February, 2017. We present a determination of the mass, width and coupling of the strange resonances appearing in pion-kaon scattering below 1.8 GeV, namely the much debated $K^*_0(800)$ or $\kappa$, the scalar $K^*_0(1430)$, the $K^*(892)$ and $K^*(1410)$ vectors, the spin-two $K^*_2(1430)$ as well as the spin-three $K^*_3(1780)$. 16. The non-ordinary Regge behavior of the K*0(800) or Kappa-meson versus the ordinary K*0(1430)

The Regge trajectory of an elastic resonance can be calculated from dispersion theory, instead of fitted phenomenologically, using only its pole parameters as input. This also provides a correct treatment of resonance widths in Regge trajectories, essential for very wide resonances. In this work we first calculate the K*0(1430) Regge trajectory, finding the ordinary almost real and linear behavior, typical of quark-antiquark resonances. In contrast, for the K*0(800) meson, the resulting Regge trajectory is non-linear and has a much smaller slope than ordinary resonances, being remarkably similar to that of the f0(500) or sigma meson. The slope of these unusual Regge trajectories seems to scale with the meson masses rather than with scales typical of quark degrees of freedom. We also calculate the range of the interaction responsible for the formation of these resonances. Our results strongly support a non-ordinary, predominantly meson-meson-like, interpretation for the lightest strange and non-strange resonances., Comment: 11 pages, 5 Figures. 17. Strange resonance poles from $K\pi$ scattering below 1.8 GeV

In this work we present a determination of the mass, width and coupling of the resonances that appear in kaon-pion scattering below 1.8 GeV. These are: the much debated scalar $\kappa$-meson, nowdays known as $K_0^*(800)$, the scalar $K_0^*(1430)$, the $K^*(892)$ and $K_1^*(1410)$ vectors, the spin-two $K_2^*(1430)$ as well as the spin-three $K^*_3(1780)$. The parameters will be determined from the pole associated to each resonance by means of an analytic continuation of the $K\pi$ scattering amplitudes obtained in a recent and precise data analysis constrained with dispersion relations, which were not well satisfied in previous analyses. This analytic continuation will be performed by means of Pad\'e approximants, thus avoiding a particular model for the pole parameterization. We review our recent analysis of $\pi K$ scattering data in terms of forward dispersion relations, and also present the parameters of the strange resonances. This work consists of fits to the data that are constrained to satisfy analyticity requirements. The method yields a set of simple and consistent parameterizations that are compatible with forward dispersion relations up to 1.6 GeV while still describing the data. 19. Calculation of Regge trajectories of strange resonances and identification of the K0*(800) as a non-ordinary meson

We review how the Regge trajectory of an elastic resonance can be obtained just from its pole position and coupling, using a dispersive formalism. This allows us to deal correctly with the finite widths of resonances in Regge trajectories. In this way we can calculate the Regge trajectories for the $K^*(892)$, $K_1(1400)$ and $K^*_0(1430)$, obtaining ordinary linear Regge trajectories, expected for $q \bar q$ resonances. 22. From controversy to precision on the sigma meson: a review on the status of the non-ordinary $f_0(500)$ resonance

The existence and properties of the sigma meson have been controversial for almost six decades, despite playing a central role in the spontaneous chiral symmetry of QCD or in the nucleon-nucleon attraction. This controversy has also been fed by the strong indications that it is not an ordinary quark-antiquark meson. Here we review both the recent and old experimental data and the model independent dispersive formalisms which have provided precise determinations of its mass and width, finally settling the controversy and leading to its new name: $f_0(500)$. We then provide a rather conservative average of the most recent and advanced dispersive determinations of its pole position $\sqrt{s_\sigma}=449^{+22}_{-16}-i(275\pm12)$. In addition, after comprehensive introductions, we will review within the modern perspective of effective theories and dispersion theory, its relation to chiral symmetry, unitarization techniques, its quark mass dependence, popular models, as well as the recent strong evidence, obtained from the QCD $1/N_c$ expansion or Regge theory, for its non ordinary nature in terms of quarks and gluons., Comment: 170 pages, 39 figures. 23. Dispersive calculation of complex Regge trajectories for the lightest $f_2$ resonances

We apply a recently developed dispersive formalism to calculate the Regge trajectories of the $f_2(1270)$ and $f_2'(1525)$ mesons. Trajectories are calculated, not fitted to a family of resonances. Assuming that these spin-2 resonances can be treated in the elastic approximation the only input are the pole position and residue of the resonances. In both cases, the predicted Regge trajectories are almost real and linear, with slopes in agreement with the universal value of order 1 GeV$^{-2}$., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

The series of workshops on New Partial-Wave Analysis Tools for Next-Generation Hadron Spectroscopy Experiments was initiated with the ATHOS 2012 meeting, which took place in Camogli, Italy, June 20-22, 2012. It was followed by ATHOS 2013 in Kloster Seeon near Munich, Germany, May 21-24, 2013. The third, ATHOS3, meeting is planned for April 13-17, 2015 at The George Washington University Virginia Science and Technology Campus, USA. The workshops focus on the development of amplitude analysis tools for meson and baryon spectroscopy, and complement other programs in hadron spectroscopy organized in the recent past including the INT-JLab Workshop on Hadron Spectroscopy in Seattle in 2009, the International Workshop on Amplitude Analysis in Hadron Spectroscopy at the ECT*-Trento in 2011, the School on Amplitude Analysis in Modern Physics in Bad Honnef in 2011, the Jefferson Lab Advanced Study Institute Summer School in 2012, and the School on Concepts of Modern Amplitude Analysis Techniques in Flecken-Zechlin near Berlin in September 2013. The aim of this document is to summarize the discussions that took place at the ATHOS 2012 and ATHOS 2013 meetings. 26. Remarks on pole trajectories for resonances

We discuss in general terms pole trajectories of resonances coupling to a continuum channel as some strength parameter is varied. It is demonstrated that, regardless the underlying dynamics, the trajectories of poles that couple to the continuum in a partial wave higher than s-wave are qualitatively the same, while in case of s-waves the pole trajectory can reveal important information on the internal structure of the resonance. In addition we show that only molecular (or extraordinary) states appear near thresholds naturally, while more compact structures need a significant fine tuning in the parameters. This study is of current relevance especially in strong interaction physics, since lattice QCD may be employed to deduce the pole trajectories for hadronic resonances as a function of the quark mass thus providing additional, new access to the structure of s-wave resonances., Comment: 15 pages 6 figures

We study the large $N_c$ behavior of couplings among light meson states with different compositions in terms of quarks and gluons. We shortly review the most common compositions of mesons, which are of interest for the understanding of low-lying meson resonances, namely, the ordinary quark-antiquark states as well as the non-ordinary, glueball, tetraquark, etc. We dedicate special attention to Jaffe's generalization of the tetraquark with $N_c-1$ $q\bar{q}$ pairs, that is the only type of state we have identified, whose width does not necessarily vanish with $N_c$, while it does decouple exponentially with $N_c$ from the $\pi\pi$ channel, so that is weakly coupled to the meson-meson system., Comment: 37 pages and 12 figures

In contrast, for the $f_0(500)$ meson, the resulting Regge trajectory is non-linear and with much smaller slope. The quark mass dependences of light element binding energies and nuclear scattering lengths are derived using chiral perturbation theory in combination with non-perturbative methods. In particular, we present new, improved values for the quark mass dependence of meson resonances that enter the nuclear force. A detailed analysis of the theoretical uncertainties arising in this determination is presented. As an application we derive from a comparison of observed and calculated primordial deuterium and helium abundances a stringent limit on the variation of the light quark mass, $\delta m_q/m_q = 0.02 \pm 0.04$. Inclusion of the neutron lifetime modification under the assumption of a variation of the Higgs vacuum expectation value that translates into changing quark, electron, and weak gauge boson masses, leads to a stronger limit, $|\delta m_q/m_q| < 0.009$.

37. Precise determination of the f0(500) and f0(980) parameters in dispersive analysis of the pipi data

We review the use of new and precise dispersive equations, which also implement crossing symmetry, in order to shed further light on the long-standing puzzle in the parameters of the f0(500), as well as the f0(980). This puzzle is finally being settled thanks to several analyses carried out during the last years. In this talk we show how our very recent dispersive data analysis allowed for a precise and model independent determination of the amplitudes for the S,P,D and F waves. In particular, we show how the analytic continuation of once subtracted dispersion relations for the S0 wave to the complex energy plane leads to very precise results for the f0(500) pole: sqrt(s)_pole = 457^(+14)_(-13) - i 279^(+11)_(-7) MeV and for the f0(980) pole: sqrt(s)_pole = 996+/-7 - i 25^(+10)_(-6) MeV. We also comment on how these results have been already used for other practical applications, including a refit of a previous model to the pipi S-wave amplitudes below 1000 MeV, which improves its consistency with the poles found with the dispersive approach., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, prepeared for proceedings of the QCD2012 conference in Montpellier, July 2012

38. Scalar susceptibilities and four-quark condensates in the meson gas within Chiral Perturbation Theory

We analyze the properties of four-quark condensates and scalar susceptibilities in the meson gas, within finite temperature Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT). The breaking of the factorization hypothesis does not allow for a finite four-quark condensate and its use as an order parameter, except in the chiral limit. This is rigorously obtained within ChPT and is therefore a model-independent result. Factorization only holds formally in the large $N_c$ limit and breaks up at finite temperature even in the chiral limit. Nevertheless, the factorization breaking terms are precisely those needed to yield a finite scalar susceptibility, deeply connected to chiral symmetry restoration. Actually, we provide the full result for the SU(3) quark condensate to NNLO in ChPT, thus extending previous results to include kaon and eta interactions. This allows to check the effect of those corrections compared to previous approaches and the uncertainties due to low-energy constants. We provide a detailed analysis of scalar susceptibilities in the SU(3) meson gas, including a comparison between the pure ChPT approach and the virial expansion, where the unitarization of pion scattering is crucial to achieve a more reliable prediction. Through the analysis of the interactions within this approach, we have found that the role of the $\sigma$ resonance is largely canceled with the scalar isospin two channel interaction, leaving the $\rho(770)$ as the main contribution. Special attention is paid to the evolution towards chiral restoration, as well as to the comparison with recent lattice analysis., Comment: 22 pages and 5 figures

39. Determination of SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory low energy constants from a precise description of pion-pion scattering threshold parameters

We determine the values of the one- and two-loop low energy constants appearing in the SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory calculation of pion-pion scattering. For this we use a recent and precise sum rule determination of some scattering lengths and slopes that appear in the effective range expansion. In addition we provide sum rules for these coefficients up to third order in the expansion. Our results when using only the scattering lengths and slopes of the S, P, D and F waves are consistent with previous determinations, but seem to require higher order contributions if they are to accommodate the third order coefficients of the effective range expansion., Comment: 16 pages. 40. The nature of the lightest scalar meson, its Nc behaviour and semi-local duality

One-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory (UChPT) calculations, suggest a different Nc behaviour for the sigma or f0(600) and rho(770) mesons: while the rho meson becomes narrower with Nc, as expected for a qqbar meson, the f0(600) contribution to the total cross section below 1 GeV becomes less and less important. Here we review our recent work where we have shown, by means of finite energy sum rules, that a different Nc behaviour for these resonances may lead to a conflict with semi-local duality for large Nc, since local duality requires a cancellation between the f0(600) and rho(770) amplitudes. 41. Mass dependence of pion-pion phase shifts within standard and unitarized ChPT versus Lattice results

We report on our recent results in the study of the chiral extrapolation of the phase-shifts in elastic pion-pion scattering, using both standard and unitarized ChPT to one and two loops. In the standard ChPT approach, limited to low momenta, we study the S, P and D waves. Unitarization extends the analysis to energies of around 1 GeV, being compatible with standard ChPT at low energies for the S and P waves. We then compare with lattice results and find a good agreement of standard ChPT below p \sim 200 MeV for the I=2, J=0 and I=1, J=1 channels and up to p \sim 500 MeV for the I=2, J=2 channel. Unitarized ChPT improves the agreement in the scalar and vector channels at higher energies. 42. Enhanced non-quark-antiquark and non-glueball Nc behavior of light scalar mesons

We show that the latest and very precise dispersive data analyses require a large and very unnat- ural fine-tuning of the 1/Nc expansion at Nc = 3 if the f_0(600) and K(800) light scalar mesons are to be considered predominantly quark-antiquark states, which is not needed for light vector mesons. For this, we use scattering observables whose 1/Nc corrections are suppressed further than one power of 1/Nc for quark-antiquark or glueball states, thus enhancing contributions of other nature. This is achieved without using unitarized ChPT, but if it is used we can also show that it is not just that the coefficients of the 1/Nc expansion are unnatural, but that the expansion itself does not even follow the expected 1/Nc scaling of a glueball or a quark-antiquark meson., Comment: Discussion disfavoring a glueball interpretation added. 43. Precise determination of the f0(600) and f0(980) pole parameters from a dispersive data analysis

We use our latest dispersive analysis of pion-pion scattering data and the very recent Kl4 experimental results to obtain the mass, width and couplings of the two lightest scalar-isoscalar resonances. The analytic continuation to the complex plane is made in a model independent way by means of once and twice subtracted dispersion relations for the partial waves, without any other theoretical assumption. We improve our description of pion-pion scattering data by imposing additional requirements to our previous fits, in the form of once-subtracted Roy-like equations, while extending our analysis up to 1100 MeV. We provide simple and ready to use parametrizations of the amplitude. In addition, we present a detailed description and derivation of these once-subtracted dispersion relations that, in the 450 to 1100 MeV region, provide an additional constraint which is much stronger than our previous requirements of Forward Dispersion Relations and standard Roy equations. The ensuing constrained amplitudes describe the existing data with rather small uncertainties in the whole region from threshold up to 1100 MeV, while satisfying very stringent dispersive constraints. For the S0 wave, this requires an improved matching of the low and high energy parametrizations. Also for this wave we have considered the latest low energy Kl4 decay results, including their isospin violation correction, and we have removed some controversial data points. These changes on the data translate into better determinations of threshold and subthreshold parameters which remove almost all disagreement with previous Chiral Perturbation Theory and Roy equation calculations below 800 MeV. Finally, our results favor the dip structure of the S0 inelasticity around the controversial 1000 MeV region., Comment: 34 pages, version to appear in Phys. Rev. D. We review our work on the rho and sigma resonances derived from the Inverse Amplitude Method. In particular, we study the leading 1/N_c behavior of the resonances masses and widths and their evolution with changing m_pi. The 1/N_c expansion gives a clear definition of quark-antiquark states, which is neatly satisfied by the rho but not by the sigma, showing that its dominant component is not quark-antiquark. The m_pi dependence of the resonance properties is relevant to connect with lattice studies. 47. Chiral extrapolation of light resonances from one and two-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory versus lattice results

We study the pion mass dependence of the rho(770) and f_0(600) masses and widths from one and two-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory. We show the consistency of one-loop calculations with lattice results for the M_rho, f_pi and the isospin 2 scattering length a_20.Then, we develop and apply the modified Inverse Amplitude Method formalism for two-loop ChPT. In contrast to the f_0(600), the rho(770) is rather sensitive to the two-loop ChPT parameters --our main source of systematic uncertainty. We thus provide two-loop unitarized fits constrained by lattice information on M_rho, f_pi, by the qqbar leading 1/N_c behavior of the rho and by existing estimates of low energy constants. These fits yield relatively stable predictions up to m_pi\simeq 300-350 MeV for the rho coupling and width as well as for all the f_0(600) parameters. We confirm, to two-loops, the weak m_pi dependence of the rho coupling and the KSRF relation, and the existence of two virtual f_0(600) poles for sufficiently high m_pi. At two loops one of these poles becomes a bound state when m_pi is somewhat larger than 300 MeV., Comment: 15 pages, to appear in Phys. Rev. D

We review our studies on the rho and sigma resonances properties derived from the Inverse Amplitude Method. In particular, we study the leading $1/N_c$ behavior of the resonances masses and widths and their evolution with changing $m_\pi$. The $1/N_c$ expansion gives a clear definition of $\bar qq$ states, which is neatly satisfied by the $\rho$ but not by the sigma, showing that its dominant component is not $\bar qq$. The $m_\pi$ dependence of the resonance properties is relevant to connect with lattice studies. We show that our predictions compare well with some lattice results and we find that the rho-pi-pi coupling constant is $m_\pi$ independent, in contrast with the sigma-pi-pi$ coupling, that shows a strong $m_\pi$ dependence., Comment: Invited talk at the 12th International Conference on Meson-Nucleon Physics and the Structure of the Nucleon (MENU2010), May 31-June 4, 2010, Williamsburg, Virginia. 49. Dependence on the quark masses of elastic phase shifts and light resonances within standard and unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory

We study the dependence of the pion-pion scattering phase shifts on the light quark mass in both standard and unitarized SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) to one and two loops. We then use unitarized SU(3) ChPT to study the elastic f_0(600), kappa(800), rho(770) and K*(892) resonances. The quark masses are varied up to values of interest for lattice studies. We find a very soft dependence on the light quark mass of the pion-pion phase shifts at one loop and slightly stronger at two loops and a good agreement with lattice results. The SU(3) analysis shows that the properties of the rho(770) and K*(892) depend smoothly on the quark mass whereas the scalar resonances present a non-analyticity at high quark masses. The leading $1/N_c$ behaviour of Unitarised Chiral Perturbation Theory distinguishes the nature of the $\rho$ and the $\sigma$. At one loop order the $\rho$ is a ${\bar q}q$ meson, while the $\sigma$ is not. However, semi-local duality between resonances and Regge behaviour cannot be satisfied for larger $N_c$, if such a distinction holds. While the $\sigma$ at $N_c=3$ is inevitably dominated by its di-pion component, Unitarised Chiral Perturbation Theory beyond one loop order reveals that as $N_c$ increases above 6-8, the $\sigma$ has a sub-dominant ${\bar q}q$ fraction up at 1.2 GeV. Remarkably this ensures semi-local duality is fulfilled for the range of $N_c \lesssim 15$, where the unitarisation procedure adopted applies., Comment: 22 pages, 8 figures.
