Explosive welding allows joining metals and alloys in almost any combinations unlike various types of fusion welding. It provides the ability of manufacturing products with a combination of service properties of applied materials with a high level of strength, tightness, fatigue strength, etc. In addition to bimetals produced in fairly large volumes for chemical and oil equipment, explosive welding is used to manufacture products with special characteristics for different industries. Producing coaxial joints (welding is performed along generatrices of axisymmetric coaxial tubes) can be attributed to a special class of tasks, since they are more economical than alternative methods of their production. In some cases, a permanent joint can be created by explosion compression without welding of elements to be joined. This work presents a number of technological processes for manufacturing coaxial products developed at the PWI, which use both welding and explosive compression. Joining building rebars is a labour-consuming critical process. arc welding processes are of little use in the cases of application of heat-strengthened building rebars, or such which have a protective layer. it is shown that use of steel couplings, compressed by explosion, allows producing strong and reliable joints of building rebars for various applications. coupling parameters are calculated under the condition of equal strength with rebars steel. rupture testing revealed a higher strength of the coupling joint, compared to the strength of rebars beyond which a rupture took place. cyclic fatigue life testing showed that fatigue resistance of coupling joints is higher than that required by normative documentation. there is experience of application of explosives in large construction sites and in operating industrial facilities. Explosion treatment of metals in the modern sense is represented by different technological processes based on application of the energy of explosion, and allowing improvement of certain service properties of the metals or welded structures. PWI developed technologies of explosion treatment to improve the corrosion resistance, dimensional stability, cyclic fatigue life of welded structures, lower the residual stresses, eliminate defects of tank shape, and increase the strength, ductility, and cold resistance of low-carbon steels. The above technologies have high mobility and responsiveness, and are independent of the external energy sources. Their disadvantage is limited applicability of explosion in settlements and long-term process of obtaining permits. An original design of transition piece for joining cryomodules of linear collider was proposed, providing necessary strength, helium and vacuum tightness at relatively low cost. The modes of explosion welding of plane titanium- stainless steel-titanium workpieces, at which intermetallics in the joining zone are almost absent, were developed. The modes of electron beam fillet welding of niobium branch pipe with titanium of a transition disc were selected experimentally. The experimental samples of transition pieces were manufactured which successfully passed tests on thermocycling and helium tightness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The method is suggested for measurement of dynamic strains by using resistance strain gauges. The working power is supplied by the generator of DC pulses with a voltage of 23 V and duration of 14 ms. The short-time supply of the power allows increasing the working current from 25-50 to 200-250 mA, this leading to almost an order of magnitude increase in sensitivity of the method. The measurement system comprises the DC pulse generator and the digital oscillograph connected to a computer. Calibration tests were carried out, and performance of the measurement system was investigated in a range of elastic and elasto-plastic strains. It is shown that the dynamic strains due to explosion loading of metal structures can be measured at a satisfactory accuracy within -0.6-0.6 % in a time interval of 0-14 ms. In addition, the system makes it possible to fix residual strains of metal of a structure after the dynamic impact. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Opioid-related overdose (OD) deaths continue to increase. Take-home naloxone (THN), after treatment for an OD in an emergency department (ED), is a recommended but under-utilized practice. To promote THN prescription, we developed a noninterruptive decision support intervention that combined a detailed OD documentation template with a reminder to use the template that is automatically inserted into a provider's note by decision rules. We studied the impact of the combined intervention on THN prescribing in a longitudinal observational study., Methods: ED encounters involving an OD were reviewed before and after implementation of the reminder embedded in the physicians' note to use an advanced OD documentation template for changes in: (1) use of the template and (2) prescription of THN. Chi square tests and interrupted time series analyses were used to assess the impact. Usability and satisfaction were measured using the System Usability Scale (SUS) and the Net Promoter Score., Results: In 736 OD cases defined by International Classification of Disease version 10 diagnosis codes (247 prereminder and 489 postreminder), the documentation template was used in 0.0% and 21.3%, respectively (P < .0001). The sensitivity and specificity of the reminder for OD cases were 95.9% and 99.8%, respectively. Use of the documentation template led to twice the rate of prescribing of THN (25.7% vs 50.0%, P < .001). Of 19 providers responding to the survey, 74% of SUS responses were in the good-to-excellent range and 53% of providers were Net Promoters., Conclusions: A noninterruptive decision support intervention was associated with higher THN prescribing in a pre-post study across a multiinstitution health system., (© The Author(s) 2023. In response to the emerging COVID-19 public health emergency in March 2020, the Medical University of South Carolina rapidly implemented an analytics-enhanced remote patient monitoring (RPM) program with state-wide reach for SARS-CoV-2-positive patients. Patient-reported data and other analytics were used to prioritize the sickest patients for contact by RPM nurses, enabling a small cadre of RPM nurses, with the support of ambulatory providers and urgent care video visits, to oversee 1234 patients, many of whom were older, from underserved populations, or at high risk of serious complications. Care was escalated based on prespecified criteria to primary care provider or emergency department visit, with 89% of moderate- to high-risk patients treated solely at home.
