Abstract

Serum urate (SU) is the most common primary efficacy outcome in trials of urate-lowering therapies for gout. Despite this, it is not formally considered a validated surrogate outcome. In this paper we will outline the definitions of biomarkers and surrogate outcome measures, respectively as well as the available frameworks and challenges in the assessment of the validity of serum urate as a surrogate in gout (i.e. a reasonable replacement for gout symptoms). © 2021 Elsevier Inc.

Abstract

The actuator disc model is applied on lattice-type meteorological masts to estimate the influence of the tower on the accuracy of the measured wind speed. Combining the results with corrections for the boom, on which the anemometer is mounted, good agreement is found for measurements made on the mast at Tjoereborg. Iso-speed plots are computed to estimate the influence of different solidities. Depending on the distance from the mast and the solidity the influence from a typical mast is normally less than 3%.

Abstract

The Unified Radio and Plasma Wave (URAP) experiment has produced new observations of the Jupiter environment, owing to the unique capabilities of the instrument and the traversal of high Jovial latitudes. Broad-band continuum radio emission from Jupiter and in situ plasma waves have proved valuable in delineating the magnetospheric boundaries. Simultaneous measurements of electric and magnetic wave fields have yielded new evidence of whistler-mode radiation within the magnetosphere. Observations of auroral-like hiss provided evidence of a Jovian cusp. The source direction and polarization capabilities of URAP have demonstrated that the outer region of the Io plasma torus supported at least five separate radio sources that reoccurred during successive rotations with a measurable corotation lag. Thermal noise measurements of the Io torus densities yielded values in the densest portion that are similar to models suggested on the basis of Voyager observations of 13 years ago. The URAP measurements also suggest complex beaming and polarization characteristics of Jovian radio components. Abstract

The paper discusses the interpretation of results from ionospheric observations during the annular solar eclipse of 20 May 1966. Observations were made of Lyman-α intensities, positive ion density, and electron density. From the observational results it is possible to estimate how the effective loss rate αeff = q N2 varies through the eclipse. It is concluded that the observed results can be explained in terms of a model of recombination in which two types of positive ions having markedly different recombination rates are present. Near 80 km this model predicts, and the results show, that electron density, N, is proportional to production, q, rather than q1 2 as usually assumed. © 1970.
