Nell'ambito dei Programmi di Sviluppo Rurale, P.S.R. Puglia 2007/2013, destinati al miglioramento del Sistema Regionale della biodiversità (Reg. CE n. 1698/2005, PSR Puglia 2007/2013, Misura 214 - Azione 4 Sub-azione a; e successivo P.S.R. Puglia 2014-2020, Misura 10 pagamenti-agro-climatico- ambientali, Art. 28 Reg. UE n. 1305/2013 Sottomisura 10.2) è stato finanziato il progetto: "Recupero, caratterizzazione, salvaguardia e valorizzazione di leguminose e cereali da granella e foraggio in Puglia" (SaVeGraINPuglia). Questo volume include schede descrittive delle leguminose, cereali e foraggere reperite in Puglia acquisite in regione e caratterizzate con approccio multidisciplinare nell'ambito del proggetto SaVeGraINPuglia.

We report a case of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) in a 60-year-old Ugandan female who presented with a 6-year history of a progressive left sided tonsillary mass. General systemic examination was unrevealing and the patient underwent left tonsillectomy. She was subsequently lost to follow-up. Grossly, the mass measured 6 cm in diameter and had a mottled appearance due to tissue microhaemorrhages. Markers specific for follicular dendritic cell differentiation (CD21, CD35 and CD23), p53 and EGFR were expressed on immunohistochemical analysis. Review of all of the 49 published reports of tonsil FDCS showed that this entity tended to occur at younger age (mean: 44.5 yrs) in women than in men (mean: 49.4 yrs). Tumour size ranged from 0.8 to 5 cm in maximum dimension (mean 2.9 cm). Only 12.2% of the patients presented with metastatic disease at initial diagnosis, all localised in the cervical lymph nodes. Local or distant recurrences occurred after a mean period of 72.5 months. In conclusion, although the pertinent literature suggests that FDCS should be considered at least of intermediate grade, our review indicates that FDCS of the tonsil region behaves as a low-grade sarcoma.

Aim of the present study was to assess the diagnostic value of unenhanced biparametric magnetic resonance imaging (Bp-MRI) as adjunct to CA125 and human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) in the characterization of large ovarian masses.Bp-MRI and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) imaging of 53 patients with large ovarian masses were retrospectively analyzed and compared to histological diagnosis. The results of Bp-MRI and DCE were assessed by two readers in consensus for each technique individually compared to each other and then with HE4 and CA125.Sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive values and positive predictive values for Bp-MRI and DCE were 92.3%, 91.4%, 94.1%, 88.9% and 84.6%, 94.3%, 89.2%, 91.7%, respectively. Both Bp-MRI and DCE were significant predictors of outcome. Among biomarkers, HE4 was significant. Considering the area under receiver operating characteristic curve the model including Bp-MRI and HE4 was not significantly different from the model including DCE and HE4.Bp-MRI in addition to HE4, especially in women of pre-menopausal age, could improve the characterization of large ovarian masses.

We report a case of a 35-year-old female who underwent total hepatectomy and liver transplantation for a diffuse clear cell variant of hepatocellular carcinoma in non-cirrhotic liver. Preoperative clinical evaluation showed no extrahepatic metastatic involvement. However, scheletal metastases of the tumour were detected five months later. Although clear cell variant is generally considered to run a relatively favorable course, this case proved rapidly progressive and seems therefore to be a debatable candidate for liver transplantation among primary hepatic cancers.

Cholestasis is frequently encountered in human liver transplants. In a series of 82 liver fine-needle aspiration biopsies performed in 20 grafted patients, the incidence rate of cholestasis was 55%. Cholestasis may predominantly be localized in the hepatocyte cytoplasm, or in the biliary tree or in both sites. In our cases it was most frequently associated with acute rejection (53%), followed by preservation injuries (29%) and ciclosporin toxicity (12%), respectively. The severity and the chronologic distribution of cholestatic episodes seem to vary according to the other associated pathologic conditions.
