- Abstract
Abstract Background We report on the challenges of obtaining Institutional Review Board (IRB) coverage for a community-based participatory research (CBPR) environmental justice project, which involved reporting biomonitoring and household exposure results to participants, and included lay participation in research. Methods We draw on our experiences guiding a multi-partner CBPR project through university and state Institutional Review Board reviews, and other CBPR colleagues' written accounts and conference presentations and discussions. We also interviewed academics involved in CBPR to learn of their challenges with Institutional Review Boards. Results We found that Institutional Review Boards are generally unfamiliar with CBPR, reluctant to oversee community partners, and resistant to ongoing researcher-participant interaction. Institutional Review Boards sometimes unintentionally violate the very principles of beneficence and justice which they are supposed to uphold. For example, some Institutional Review Boards refuse to allow report-back of individual data to participants, which contradicts the CBPR principles that guide a growing number of projects. This causes significant delays and may divert research and dissemination efforts. Our extensive education of our university Institutional Review Board convinced them to provide human subjects protection coverage for two community-based organizations in our partnership. Conclusions IRBs and funders should develop clear, routine review guidelines that respect the unique qualities of CBPR, while researchers and community partners can educate IRB staff and board members about the objectives, ethical frameworks, and research methods of CBPR. These strategies can better protect research participants from the harm of unnecessary delays and exclusion from the research process, while facilitating the ethical communication of study results to participants and communities.

BackgroundExposure assessment has shifted from pollutant monitoring in air, soil, and water toward personal exposure measurements and biomonitoring. This trend along with the paucity of health effect data for many of the pollutants studied raise ethical and scientific challenges for reporting results to study participants.MethodsWe interviewed 26 individuals involved in biomonitoring studies, including academic scientists, scientists from environmental advocacy organizations, IRB officials, and study participants; observed meetings where stakeholders discussed these issues; and reviewed the relevant literature to assess emerging ethical, scientific, and policy debates about personal exposure assessment and biomonitoring, including public demand for information on the human health effects of chemical body burdens.ResultsWe identify three frameworks for report-back in personal exposure studies: clinical ethics; community-based participatory research; and citizen science 'data judo.' The first approach emphasizes reporting results only when the health significance of exposures is known, while the latter two represent new communication strategies where study participants play a role in interpreting, disseminating, and leveraging results to promote community health. We identify five critical areas to consider in planning future biomonitoring studies.ConclusionPublic deliberation about communication in personal exposure assessment research suggests that new forms of community-based research ethics and participatory scientific practice are emerging.

The recent flood of research concerning pollutants in personal environmental and biological samples-blood, urine, breastmilk, household dust and air, umbilical cord blood, and other media-raises questions about whether and how to report results to individual study participants. Clinical medicine provides an expert-driven framework, whereas community-based participatory research emphasizes participants' right to know and the potential to inform action even when health effects are uncertain. Activist efforts offer other models. We consider ethical issues involved in the decision to report individual results in exposure studies and what information should be included. Our discussion is informed by our experience with 120 women in a study of 89 pollutants in homes and by interviews with other researchers and institutional review board staff.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the anatomy and anatomical relationships of the anterior ethmoidal artery in the Mexican population by analyzing computed tomography of the nose and paranasal sinuses, in order to make otolaryngologists aware of the anatomical variations of the anterior ethmoidal artery in different populations to prevent complications during frontal and ethmoid sinus surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, cross-sectional, descriptive and retrospective type, where computed scans of the nose and paranasal sinuses were included from December 2021 to December 2022. The studies were obtained from the database of data from a private radiological center. Images were made with a slice thickness of 1 mm. The axial, coronal and sagittal sections were analyzed, taking different measurements comparing the morphological variability between male and female gender, Asian, European and Mexican populations. RESULTS: Two hundred computed scans of the nose and paranasal sinuses (400 sides) were included showing a variability between the intranasal length of the anterior ethmoid artery on both sides. The rest of the measurements presented a similar range and minimal variation between the right and left sides and between men and women. CONCLUSIONS: The type of race and demographic group of a patient should be considered when analyzing the preoperative images to have a safe surgical planning. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LIPID transfer protein ,ATOMIC force microscopes ,BIOMOLECULES ,PLANT lipids ,HYDROPHOBIC interactions - Abstract
The interaction between the plant lipid transfer protein Pru p 3 and phytosphingosine was assessed using an atomic force microscope. Phytosphingosine was covalently immobilized on DeepTip
TM probes and Pru p 3 on MicroDeckTM functionalized substrates. Single-molecular interaction events between both molecules were retrieved and classified and the distribution for each one of the identified types was calculated. A success rate of over 70% was found by comparing the number of specific Pru p 3-phytosphingosine interaction events with the total number of recorded curves. The analysis of the distribution established among the various types of curves was further pursued to distinguish between those curves that can mainly be used for assessing the recognition between phytosphingosine (sensor molecule) and Pru p 3 (target molecule) in the context of affinity atomic force microscopy, and those that entail details of the interaction and might be employed in the context of force spectroscopy. The successful application of these functionalized probes and substrates to the characterization of the low-intensity hydrophobic interaction characteristic of this system is a clear indication of the potential of exploiting this approach with an extremely wide range of different biological molecules of interest. The possibility of characterizing molecular assembly events with single-molecule resolution offers an advantageous procedure to plough into the field of molecular biomimetics. - Abstract

The article aims to show the effect that delinquency has in the state of Quintana Roo, México, where the percentage increase is developing alarmingly, causing micro and small business (MSEs) owners to allocate a monetary quantity to safeguard their assets. The methodological approach in the research is of a mixed nature through a documentary study of a descriptive and exploratory type. The source of information used is the National Geography Survey (ENVE) for the 2020 period, analyzing the 7 studies focused on insecurity, victimization, and statistical crimes in commerce. The findings reveal that the security measures taken by businessmen, to protect their establishments and avoid human and monetary losses, entail the generation of a deterioration in the sustainability of companies when there is a decrease in the utilities and not able to allocate enough money for MSEs growth when it is oriented toward the safety of these., El artículo pretende mostrar el efecto que produce la delincuencia en el Estado de Quintana Roo, México, donde se genera un incremento porcentual de manera alarmante, ocasionando que, los dueños de las micro y pequeñas empresas (Mypes), destinen una cantidad monetaria para salvaguardar los bienes de estas.

- Abstract
Phosphorus (P) recovery from P-rich residues such as sewage sludge (SS) is crucial to sustain food and industrial demands globally. This study investigated the speciation and recovery of P from SS after hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). Treatment with organic acid solutions at different pH conditions was investigated to determine how the composition of SS and hydrochars affect the P and major metals release. HTC experiments at 180, 215 and 250 °C showed that P remained immobilized(>75% of total P) in the hydrochars and that almost all of that P was present as inorganic P. Extraction efficiencies of P and major metals decreased with increasing pH, with maximum extraction efficiency reached in the pH range of 0-1 for oxalate and 0 for citrate and HCl, demonstrating that HCl is only effective for P and metal dissolution at extreme low pH. Oxalate treatment was found to have higher P release and metal leaching compared to citrate. Moreover, P and major metals extraction seems to have no clear difference between hydrochars generated at different HTC temperatures (180, 215 and250 °C) for 2 h extraction time. Kinetic studies with oxalate solution at pH=1.4 showed that P recoveryat lower HTC temperature is the most time-efficient., Sludge: from problem to product, Bio4Energy

- Abstract
The Tom Ford House project, located on the outskirts of Santa Fe, is one of Campo Baeza’s most important projects. Eventually, it could not be completed since New Mexican authorities did not consider it to be sufficiently “typical”. The House would have consisted of four halls, with walls made of adobe, which were supposed to house each and every one of the activities of the home. There would be a main hall, based on an already existing construction, another one called New House, a third one for guests and, lastly, a pool hall. The core material for this house would indeed be light. The architect plays with it in each one of his constructions. However, every time he does it in a different way, so as to create unique atmospheres. Through this project, we will try to contextualize this work within the total of Campo Baeza’s career, by studying his sketches, texts and plans. The objective is to achieve a graphic restitution of this house, as well as to analyze each of its elements in their totality, thus achieving to understand that, indeed, the Tom Ford House gathers many of the values that the architect usually captures in the rest of his work., Departamento de Urbanismo y Representación de la Arquitectura, Grado en Fundamentos de la Arquitectura

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this work is to make known how the spanish unions emerged and how they have evolved for so many years until reaching the union model that currently exists and is projected in Spain. First of all, the first sections are dedicated to development and historical advance of thw unions, intertaining the three most important factors that caused it (the industrial revolution, the labor movement and the capitalist system) . And it is shown what freedom of association means and how it is recognized in our country. Secondly, the central sections explain the historical revolution that caused the appearance and recognition trade unions. Thirdly, a visión of what unions are like today is given and how they should be in the future. The possible positions the will have to adopt to survive are addressed , mentioning which are the most representative unions and with more relevance in Spain. In fourth plac, the most representative unions in our country are mentioned and brief development of each of them will be made. Finally, the work ends with a presentation of the conclusions obtained. Treballs Finals de Grau d'Enginyeria Química, Facultat de Química, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2021-2022, Tutors: Jordi H. Badia, Eliana Ramírez, Nowadays, most of the energy and chemicals come from fossil fuels. Nevertheless, there is a growing concern about the depletion of fossil resources and the respective environmental problems they cause in terms of the greenhouse effect. Lignocellulose-derived platform molecules are being investigated as a possible solution. Among the platform molecules derived from biomass we can distinguish levulinic acid, which through a hydrogenation reaction can produce -valerolactone, which has multiple applications. On this research, the hydrogenation reaction of levulinic acid to produce -valerolactone has been catalysed with bifunctional ion exchange resins. An initial assessment of the operating conditions has been carried out with Amberlyst CH28 catalyst. As a result of the evaluation, it was found that it is better to work with a water-diluted LA feed, at a temperature of 120 °C and that the catalyst loading, when the hydrogen pressure is limited to 7 bar, does not favour the catalytic activity. The LA hydrogenation reaction has also been performed to produce GVL with 4 bifunctional copper and palladium resins, which have been doped in the faculty's laboratory. From this study it has been observed that copper doped resins show a higher conversion. Palladium resins, on the other hand, are more selective. In addition, it has been noted that resins with macroreticular structure show higher LA conversion than gel-type resins. Despite this fact, gel-type resins show better selectivity to produce GVL. Lastly, it should be noted that both the levulinic conversion and the GVL selectivity of the reaction under the conditions tested were very low and need to be further studied.
