Background and Purpose: Skin pores (SPs) are normal and benign skin structures that are mostly located on the face (nose, cheeks, etc.) that cause many aesthetic concerns or complaints. One known effective treatment is botulinum toxin A (BTXA), which is also approved for the treatment of strabismus, blepharospasm, muscle spasm, cervical dystonia, glabella wrinkles, and primary axillary hyperhidrosis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the effect of intra‑dermal injection of botulinum toxin and normal saline serum (NSS) in the treatment of large facial pores. Methods: The study included 25 people who referred to the skin clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital in Ahvaz from June 2021 to January 2022 for the treatment of large facial skin pores. Randomly, some subjects were injected with botulinum toxin at ten points, and each point was equivalent to 2.5 units of Masport (500 units vial of Masport diluted with 10 ml of NSS). Some other people were injected with 0.05 ml of NSS by intra‑dermal injection at ten points. Finally, the data were analyzed using SPSS‑Ver. 22 software. Results: Based on optical coherence tomography results, it was determined that the diameter of facial pores decreased significantly (P = 0.011). Dermoscopy showed a significant decrease in the average size of facial pores (P < 0.011), and also, the pore score decreased significantly (P = 0.021). In addition, the results showed that the size of skin pores and facial fat on both sides of the face did not decrease significantly from the patients’ point of view (P = 0.71). Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, it can be concluded that intra‑dermal injection of botulinum toxin is an effective and safe method to control facial pores, which showed acceptable results after 3 months. This article discusses a case of auricular cutaneous leishmaniasis, a rare presentation of Leishmania major infection in Southwest Iran. The patient, a 41-year-old man, presented with an inflamed left auricle that did not respond to antibiotics. A diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis was confirmed through a direct smear and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing. The patient received intralesional injections of meglumine antimoniate and experienced complete resolution of the lesion without complications. Treatment of common warts may be painful or leaves scars, mainly using traditional destructive methods. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the viable Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG) vaccine in paste formula as an immunotherapeutic modality for common warts treatment. This double-blind and randomized, parallel-group, placebo-controlled trial was conducted at the Ahvaz Imam Hospital Dermatology Department from November 2014 to 2015. Overall 80 patients with common warts in two groups (case and control) received BCG vaccine paste once weekly for eight consecutive weeks. Follow-up was done every two weeks during treatment and six months after the treatment to evaluate recurrence in patients with complete resolution. In group A, eight patients (20%) had a complete response, 15 patients (37.5%) partial response, four patients (10%) low response, and 13 patients (32.5%) no response (p <.001). All patients in group B had no response to treatment (p <.001). After six months of follow-up, no recurrence was seen. Duration of disease less than 12 months (p =.001) and the number of lesions less than three (p =.01) were determining factors of response to treatment. Topical BCG vaccine paste was an effective treatment for common warts, without recurrence and significant complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Telemedicine refers to the use of information technology to transfer medical data and provide medical, counseling, diagnosis, treatment, and patient education services with the help of audiovisual systems. A common and important application of telemedicine is the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases. Using telemedicine systems, dermatologists can advise other health professionals or provide their services directly to patients. This application of telemedicine is known as teledermatology. Objective: This study aimed to investigate diagnostic concordance between teledermatological assessments of skin lesions based on images and clinical data collected via mobile phone and the assessments made through in-person examinations. Material and Methods: The research was conducted in three phases: MDS design, application design, and evaluation. The information and images of 67 patients were registered in the application. The data were analyzed in SPSS using descriptive statistics. Patients were examined once in person by a dermatologist and another time remotely by another dermatologist who was given the clinical data and images captured by mobile phone. Diagnostic concordance between in-person and teledermatological assessments was determined. Results: After analyzing the data of 67 patients, diagnostic concordance between in-person assessments and teledermatological evaluations was measured in using of Kappa coefficient. Conclusion: Teledermatology via smartphones can serve as an easy method for the preliminary diagnosis of skin lesions. Our experience indicates that the smartphone app can help dermatologists and other physicians avoid many of the routine consultations on skin lesions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
