Abstract

The values of primary stresses are not allowed for as a criterion in the selection of roof bolting systems in mining excavations located at various depths in Polish copper ore mines. Therefore, in order to ensure enduring and safe operation of excavations, in particular, those driven in unfavourable geological and mining conditions, this problem has required solutions based on numerical methods. This article presents an example of applying numerical simulations to the evaluation of the stability of headings in Polish copper ore mines. The analyses included mining excavations located at various depths in the rock mass. This issue is of great importance, as safety regulations are prioritised in mining excavations which remain in operation even for several decades. The stability of the headings was evaluated with the use of the RS2 specialist numerical simulation software. This computer program uses the finite element method (FEM) for calculations. The rock parameters used in the numerical models have been determined on the basis of the Hoek–Brown classification. For that purpose, the RocLab 1.0 software was used. The parameters of the stress field were identified from the profile of the GG-1 shaft with the assumed hydrostatic state of stress. The numerical modelling was performed in a triaxial stress state and in a plane strain state. The numerical analyses were based on the Mohr–Coulomb failure criterion. The rock medium was described with the elastic-plastic model with softening (roof and walls) and with the elastic-plastic model (floor). The results of the numerical analyses served to provide an example of the application of a roof bolting system to protect headings located at the depths of 1000 m b.g.l. and 1300 m b.g.l. Abstract

Impact of horizontal stresses on stability of underground workings in mines is a very important issue in underground mining. Identification of the initial state of stress in the rock-mass should be one of the main actions taken into account while designing and carrying out the mining activity in underground mines. The paper presents the azimuths difference method. This innovative method can be used to estimate numerical quantity of the perpendicular and parallel horizontal stress around underground mining excavations. The azimuths difference method has importance for the process of improvement of underground mining excavations stability and selection of mining support for headings. The tests on three-dimensional stress pattern in the Rudna copper mine in 2012, owned by KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. Group, were described. On the basis of the obtained results, calculations of horizontal stress for selected mining headings in the Rudna mine were carried out using the azimuth difference method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The article concerns the problems of assessment the stability of the historical mine excavations which will be adapt to the underground tourist route. The issue is very important because of the special safety requirements for people (visitors), which do not have specialized safety training for employees of a typical underground mines. Postmining facility, open to the public in 2013 in Krobica in Poland was characterized. Excavations from the XVI-XIX centuries are located in the rock mass characterized by a difficult geological and mining conditions. To evaluate the stability of the mine excavations the finite element method (FEM) was used. Parameters of rock layers for numerical modeling were determined on the basis of Hoek-Brown classification by the RocLab 1.0 computer program. Numerical modeling was performed using the Phase2 v. 8.0 computer program in a triaxial stress state and plane strain. Mohr-Coulomb strength criterion was used for numerical analysis. The rock mass was described by the elasticplastic with softening model. On the basis of the results of numerical analysis the support of historical mine excavations was designed and performed.
