The intracluster light (ICL) fraction is a well-known indicator of the dynamical activity in intermediate-redshift clusters. Merging clusters in the redshift interval 0.18 < z < 0.56 have a distinctive peak in the ICL fractions measured between ∼3800 and 4800 Å . In this work, we analyze two higher-redshift, clearly merging clusters, ACT-CLJ0102-49151 and CL J0152.7-1357, at z > 0.8, using the Hubble Space Telescope optical and infrared images obtained by the RELICS survey. We report the presence of a similar peak in the ICL fractions, although wider and redshifted to the wavelength interval ∼5200–7300 Å. The fact that this excess in the ICL fractions is found at longer wavelengths can be explained by an assorted mixture of stellar populations in the ICL, direct inheritance of an ICL that was mainly formed by major galaxy mergers with the BCG at z > 1 and experienced an instantaneous burst due to the merging event. The ubiquity of the ICL fraction merging signature across cosmic time enhances the ICL as a highly reliable and powerful probe to determine the dynamical stage of galaxy clusters, which is crucial for cluster-based cosmological inferences that require relaxation of the sample.

Abstract Amylases, crucial in various industries such as food, textile, and biofuels, require optimized production and biochemical characterization. Thus, this study aimed to produce amylases from Rhizopus sp. I 1.2.1, characterize the cultivation conditions and the synthesized enzyme. The fungus was molecularly identified with 99.06% homology in the LSU gene, 98.08% identity in the ITS region, and placed phylogenetically closer to Rhizopus arrhizus CBS 112,07. The LSU gene and ITS region sequences were deposited in GenBank. The CP medium was optimal for amylase production by Rhizopus arrhizus, with peak activity on the 6th day. Supplementation with urea significantly increased amylolytic activity by 110-fold. CP salts outperformed other salts in enzyme production, achieving a maximum amylase activity of 15.5 U/ml. The pH 6.0 was optimal for amylase production, with higher specific activity at pH 5.0. Pumpkin peel and pineapple peel were the best carbon sources for amylase production with an amylolytic activity of 18 and 16 U/mL, respectively. The amylase production showed a significant increase when pineapple peel was used in the presence of glucose 0.5% showing an activity of 22.4 U/mL, representing a 1.5- and 1.6-fold increase over the control. The optimal reaction of the amylase was observed at pH 6.0 and 60 °C. The enzyme remained stable for 240 minutes at 50-55 °C and at pH 4.0-7.0. Amylase was inhibited by glucose concentration and certain salts, but EDTA and K2SO4 increased activity by 25%. These results suggest industrial potential based on residual carbon source use, cultivation conditions, and crude enzyme stability.

The fungus Phyllosticta citricarpa is a quarantine phytopathogen responsible for causing citrus black spot (CBS) disease. To export fruits to CBS-free countries, they must undergo a sanitation process to ensure disease control. In this study, neem essential oil (NEO) was tested against P. citricarpa for the first time as an alternative sanitizer. In vitro experiments were conducted to determine the inhibition concentration of NEO for P. citricarpa, and the mode of action of the essential oil was evaluated. In vivo assays were performed to simulate the sanitization process used in packinghouses. NEO was characterized by GC-MS/MS. The results revealed that NEO at 100 μL·mL−1 exhibited a similar inhibitory effect as copper oxychloride, suppressing 89.68 ± 1.14% of fungal mycelium growth. Fluorescence microscopy experiments demonstrated that NEO functions by disrupting the cytoplasmic membrane of fungal hyphae, leading to their death within 30 minutes of contact with NEO. GC-MS/MS characterization revealed a high presence of phenolic compounds, which serve as the primary antifungal agents responsible for the action against fungal hyphae. In vivo assays showed that NEO at 100 μL·mL−1 also reduced microorganisms (CFU mL−1) by 93.00 ± 3.88% compared to the negative control. Overall, the results demonstrate that NEO can effectively serve as an alternative sanitizer against P. citricarpa in citrus packinghouses. Our findings allow future studies to explore the use of NEO for sanitizing other fruits and combating different phytopathogens to broaden its potential application in fruit sanitation for export.

Abstract This study aimed to propose an eco-compatible strategy to mitigate the possible environmental contamination caused by tebuthiuron. Therefore, we screened potential tebuthiuron-degrading microorganisms from conventional (CS) and no-till (NTS) systems producing sugarcane. Then, they were bioprospected for their ability of decomposing the target-molecule at 2.48 mmol g−1 and 4.96 mmol g−1 into CO2 via respirometry. Integrating microbiota from CS and NTS into an advantageously synergistic bacterial pool produced the highest specific-growth rate of CO2 of 89.60 mg day−1, so outstripped the other inoculum. The bacterial CN-NTS framework notably stabilized the sigmoidal Gompertz curve on microbial degradation earliest and enabled the seeds of Lactuca sativa to germinate healthiest throughout ecotoxicological bioassay for cross-validation. Our study is preliminary, but timely to provide knowledge of particular relevance to progress in the field's prominence in remediating terrestrial ecosystems where residual tebuthiuron can persist and contaminate. The analytical insights will act as an opening of solutions to develop high-throughput biotechnological strategies for environmental decontamination.

Abstract Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) are one of the most widely used nanoparticulate materials due to their antimicrobial properties, but their main mechanism of action (MOA) has not been fully elucidated. This study characterized ZnO NPs by using X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Antimicrobial activity of ZnO NPs against the clinically relevant bacteria Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and the Gram-positive model Bacillus subtilis was evaluated by performing resazurin microtiter assay (REMA) after exposure to the ZnO NPs at concentrations ranging from 0.2 to 1.4 mM. Sensitivity was observed at 0.6 mM for the Gram-negative and 1.0 mM for the Gram-positive cells. Fluorescence microscopy was used to examine the interference of ZnO NPs on the membrane and the cell division apparatus of B. subtilis (amy::pspac-ftsZ-gfpmut1) expressing FtsZ-GFP. The results showed that ZnO NPs did not interfere with the assembly of the divisional Z-ring. However, 70% of the cells exhibited damage in the cytoplasmic membrane after 15 min of exposure to the ZnO NPs. Electrostatic forces, production of Zn2+ ions and the generation of reactive oxygen species were described as possible pathways of the bactericidal action of ZnO. Therefore, understanding the bactericidal MOA of ZnO NPs can potentially help in the construction of predictive models to fight bacterial resistance.

As metodologias ativas e as tecnologias digitais vêm ganhando espaço nos contextos de ensino contemporâneos, tornando-se necessária a inclusão desta temática na formação de professores, tanto inicial, quanto continuada, a fim de prepará-los reflexiva e criticamente para o seu uso. Esta pesquisa teve por objetivo verificar e analisar as concepções e opiniões de licenciandos e professores atuantes sobre as metodologias ativas e tecnologias digitais no ensino de ciências. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, de cunho exploratório. Foi realizado um minicurso para licenciandos e professores em atuação sobre metodologias ativas e tecnologias digitais no ensino de ciências. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionários de pré e pós-teste e analisados pela análise de conteúdo. Observou-se, inicialmente, que os participantes confundiam metodologias ativas com recursos tecnológicos, visão que se modificou parcialmente após o minicurso. Entre as metodologias mais citadas, destacaram-se as experiências (aulas práticas) no pré-teste, e a sala de aula invertida, jogos e método do caso no pós-teste. Os professores dizem acreditar no potencial das metodologias ativas e das tecnologias digitais como auxílio para o ensino e a aprendizagem de ciências. ABSTRACT Droplet size is one of the most important factors that affect spray deposition and weed control through the use of herbicides. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the droplet size on the spray deposition and control of Euphorbia heterophylla and Urochloa ruziziensis by using glyphosate. The treatments included spraying glyphosate with fine, medium, coarse, very coarse, and ultra-coarse droplet sizes to determine the deposition, uniformity of distribution, visual control, and dry weight reduction (DWR). The treatments were compared with the values of the dose required to achieve 50% DWR or 50% visual control (C50) at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after herbicide application. Fine and medium droplet sizes afforded high deposition values and low distribution uniformities in E. heterophylla . Fine and medium droplet sizes yielded the lowest C50 on visual control and DWR in E. heterophylla, respectively. The droplet size did not affect the spray deposition on U. ruziziensis plants; however, the larger droplets had less uniformity of distribution. In U. ruziziensis plants, spraying glyphosate with coarse and medium droplet sizes yielded the lowest values of C50 to visual control and DWR, respectively.

A alimentação de 76 exemplares de Rypticus randalli Courtenay, 1967 (Actinopterygii: Serranidae) medindo entre 45,0 e 133,0 mm de comprimento capturados em diferentes localidades na Baía de Todos os Santos (BTS, estado da Bahia, região nordeste do Brasil) é analisada. As principais categorias alimentares identificadas foram crustáceos decápodos (camarões e siris) e matéria orgânica digerida (MOD).

To predict the potential breeding hotspots of southern right whales in southern Brazil, we used a Maxent model with a “presence-only” dataset. The dataset was obtained from a systematic aerial survey and public records of the Programa de Monitoramento de Cetáceos da Bacia de Santos and Sistema de Apoio ao Monitoramento de Mamíferos Marinhos. Because of spatial autocorrelation, 528 records out of 3028 were used in the modelling process. The explanatory variables used in the models were coastal distance, linearity, slope and substrate type. The models were created separately for unaccompanied adults (Ad) and mother-calf pairs (Fe). Both models showed good accuracy according to their area under the curve values (Ad=0.974; Fe=0.958). Coastal distance was the most relevant explanatory variable for the unaccompanied adult model (54%), whereas coastal linearity was more relevant for the mother-calf pair model (82%). The estimated area for mother-calf pairs was more restricted to coastal areas than that for unaccompanied adults, possibly owing to the high number of shelter areas for calves near the coast. This is the first study to predict the potential breeding hotspots of southern right whales in Brazil and its results will allow for a more directed management of these whales and provide further research opportunities.

No contexto digital atual os alunos encontram-se crescentemente envolvidos pelas tecnologias digitais em seu cotidiano, o que impulsiona a sua inserção no âmbito educacional, nos diferentes níveis de ensino, a fim de tornar as aulas mais atrativas, interessantes e dinâmicas. Essa pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar a contribuição da sala de aula invertida com material autossuficiente digital e ferramenta metacognitiva na aprendizagem e metacognição e analisar as percepções dos estudantes sobre a atividade realizada. O material autossuficiente de estudos foi criado na plataforma Wix e disponibilizado no Facebook. Os instrumentos de coleta de dados foram a pré-atividade, a pós-atividade, os mapas mentais produzidos pelos alunos e um questionário de avaliação da atividade. Houve diferença estatística significativa no desempenho após a experiência com a metodologia sala de aula invertida. Os estudantes demonstraram receptividade e interesse em utilizar as tecnologias digitais e metodologia sala de aula invertida na sua vida acadêmica. Os acadêmicos demonstraram, a partir de suas percepções, que consideram a sala de aula invertida como uma metodologia que pode auxiliar em suas aprendizagens, o que pôde ser constatado na comparação entre os resultados da pré-atividade, com os da pós-atividade, os quais demonstraram um avanço na aprendizagem, potencializado pelo uso desta metodologia. A utilização do material autossuficiente baseado nas tecnologias digitais auxiliou os alunos na apreensão dos conceitos de fibromialgia, pois oferecia o conteúdo de modo organizado, atendendo as necessidades dos estudantes. /// In the current digital context, students are increasingly involved by digital technologies in their daily lives, which drives their insertion in the educational field, at different levels of education, in order to make classes more attractive, interesting and dynamic. This research aimed to evaluate the contribution of the inverted classroom in the construction of knowledge, through the use of self-sufficient digital material and metacognitive activity, and to analyze the students' perceptions about this methodology as a teaching strategy. The self-sufficient study material was created on the Wix platform and made available on Facebook. The instruments for data collection were pre-activity, post-activity, mind maps produced by students and a questionnaire to evaluate the activity. There was a statistically significant difference in performance after experience with the inverted classroom methodology. Students showed receptivity and interest in using digital technologies and inverted classroom methodology in their academic life. The academics showed, from their perceptions, that they consider the inverted classroom as a methodology that can assist in their learning. Such information could be verified in the comparison between the results of the pre-activity, with those of the post-activity, which demonstrated an advance in learning, enhanced by the use of this methodology. Thus, it is possible to evidence the contribution of using self-sufficient material based on digital technologies, which helped students to assimilate the concepts of fibromyalgia, as it offered the content in an organized manner, meeting the needs of students.

Abstract Background Human-animal interactions with mutual benefits in the wild are rare. Such positive interactions seem to require an intricate knowledge from the human side on the animals’ behavior and their habitat. In southern Brazil, dolphins and human net-casting fishers have specialized in a cooperative foraging, in which fishers report being able to identify and name dolphins. Here, we evaluate the consensus in their ability to recognize the individual dolphins they interact with. By investigating the reliability of this recognition process, we assess the pros and cons of relying on the fishers’ traditional knowledge to further understand the behavior and ecology of dolphins at the individual level. We also assess the potential role of traditional knowledge for the maintenance of this unusual interaction. Methods We interviewed 38 fishers using a semi-structured questionnaire. During each interview, we evaluate their recognition ability of dolphins by showing high-quality photos of dorsal fins of different dolphins, asking questions about the dolphins’ behavior and traits, and about how fishers recognize each dolphin. We also evaluated information about the fishers. Different indices were used to measure the fishers’ ability to recognize dolphins via photos, and their consensus on individual identification. These indices were modeled as functions of traits of both dolphins and fishers to investigate which ones influence the recognition process. Results We found that fishers can primarily recognize dolphins by natural marks in the dorsal fin but there was little consensus in recognition. Fishers also tend to repeat the name of the most “popular” dolphins for different photos, indicating low reliability in individual recognition. We also found that fishers who learned from relatives (vertical learning) how to interact with dolphins tend to be more accurate and have higher consensus in dolphin recognition than those fishers who learned from friends (horizontal learning) or individually. Conclusion Artisanal fishers have a deep understanding of the dolphins and the system they are inserted in. However, the lack of consensus in identifying individual dolphins herein reported indicates that using their traditional knowledge to further understand dolphin behavior and ecology at the individual level requires caution. Our study also suggests that the transmission of this tradition from parents to sons can be crucial to preserve such a unique human-animal positive interaction in its original form.

A alimentação de 113 exemplares de Diplectrum radiale (Quoy; Gaimard, 1824) (Actinopterygii: Serranidae) medindo entre 43,0 e 186,0 mm de comprimento total capturados em diferentes localidades na Baía de Todos os Santos (BTS, Estado da Bahia, região nordeste do Brasil) é analisada. A principal categoria alimentar identificada foi Crustacea Decapoda (camarões e siris) seguido por Actinopterygii Teleostei (peixes). A alimentação de D. radiale na BTS é semelhante à observada para esta espécie em outras regiões do litoral brasileiro.

Este artigo defende a necessidade de proximidade crítica em Linguística Aplicada com base na desconstrução de uma episteme ocidentalista que separa pesquisa, pesquisador e poder. Tal crença nos levou à prefiguração de um pesquisador branco, heterossexual, e masculino, construtor de ‘verdades científicas’. Na modernidade em transição em que nos situamos, esses ideais são perturbados tendo em vista as mudanças e perplexidades sociais que nos desafiam cotidianamente e que destronam os modos tradicionais de produzir conhecimento. Argumentamos a favor da importância do questionamento de ideologias linguísticas e epistemológicas comprometidas com qualquer significado de transparência teórica. Ao concluir, apresentamos a imaginação utópica como um exercício epistemológico de proximidade crítica que é central em face de seus possíveis ganhos transgressivos.Palavras-chave: proximidade crítica; modernidade em transição; imaginação epistemológica.

In 1510, an anonymous nobleman servant of the 4th Duke of Braganza, D. Jaime, left Portugal for Italy to return only in 1517. On the basis of this travel, he later wrote an extensive and impressive account. One of the figures that holds his attention is Francis I of France. Although sparse, the outlined portrait of the then young ruler suggests, from various perspectives, the decisive role that he will play in European foreign policy in the early 16th century. It is, in essence, a case study, but the truth is that we are dealing with an excellent critical instrument to go beyond the «circumscribed» context of the case itself, addressing broader questions at the interpretive level, such as the contest for hegemony in 16th century Europe, the passage from Christendom to Europe of increasingly centralized national monarchies or even the growing autonomy in relation to Rome by the emerging powers of the West.

Apple tree has been experimentally grown Brazilian tropical semiarid. In these new regions, fertilizing management research for N and K is crucial to reach apple high yields. Therefore, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of N and K fertilizing on fruit production, leaf chlorophyll and N and K nutritional status of apple cv. ‘Julieta’ grown in Brazilian tropical semiarid. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with treatments disposed in a factorial arrangement (4 x 4) referring to nitrogen doses (30, 60, 90, and 120 g of N plant-1) and potassium doses (30, 60, 90, and 120 g of K2O plant-1), with three replications and three plants in each parcel. ‘Julieta’ apple trees propagated by grafting (with ‘M9 filter and Maruba rootstock) and transplanted in 2013 were used in this study. The following variables were evaluated: i) fruit production (kg plant-1); ii) number of fruits (in a plant); iii) leaf chlorophyll index (‘a’, ‘b’, and total); and iv) leaf N and K concentrations (g kg-1). N and K doses effects depend on the consecutive production cycles of apple cv. ‘Julieta’ grown in tropical semiarid. An adequate N supply is very important for the subsequent production cycle. K fertilization until 120 g plant-1 of K2O is not enough to supply K demand of apple cv. ‘Julieta’ grown in tropical semiarid. In tropical semiarid, 60-90 g plant-1 of N through fertirrigation is enough for ‘Julieta’ apple production.

Esse artigo reflete como determinadas formas de governo, apreendidas etnograficamente por meio de minha inserção como pesquisador em uma instância administrativa na Baixada Fluminense do Rio de Janeiro, são (re)elaboradas na atuação de um “serviço” destinado a “homens autores de violência doméstica”. Nesse sentido, trata-se de uma investigação acerca de processos de formação de Estado, cuja ênfase encontra-se nas práticas, dinâmicas e interações estabelecidas cotidianamente por administradores – “os técnicos” – e administrados – “os homens” –, bem como entre diferentes instâncias e dispositivos estatais. Procuro compreender tanto a produção contínua do Estado “em ato”, privilegiando tanto as dinâmicas constitutivas dos modos de fazer da administração, quanto os modos de subjetivação que, a partir de uma série de constrangimentos conduzidos pelas formas específicas de gestão a que estão submetidos, são operacionalizados pelos sujeitos atendidos pela instância etnografada.

A silagem química de peixe é um produto líquido feito com peixes inteiros ou partes deles, com adição de um ácido ou mistura, sendo que a liquefação da massa se faz pela ação de enzimas já presentes no peixe. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o aproveitamento dos rejeitos do peixe de água doce, conhecido como birú ou voga (Cyphocharax voga). É uma espécie sem valor comercial, encontrada em abundância no Rio Grande do Sul pelos pescadores artesanais, sendo descartada logo após a sua captura, constituindo problema para os pescadores, meio ambiente e as indústrias. Além de serem poluentes, são desperdiçados produtos de alto valor nutritivo. A silagem com ácido acético foi elaborada de rejeitos de pescado moído, adicionando-se 10% daquele ácido, a temperatura ambiente durante 15 dias com pH monitorado diariamente. Foram realizadas análises de composição química, aminoácidos e minerais. Os resultados mostraram que a farinha de silagem de pescado obtida foi satisfatória, contribuindo para a diminuição da poluição ambiental e utilização de um produto promissor para a piscicultura. Ao final da hidrólise a composição proteica foi de 62%, apresentando praticamente a mesma composição da matéria-prima (teor de proteína de 55,49%, 20,79% de lipídios e 23,12% de minerais totais). A farinha de silagem apresentou adequada composição em aminoácidos e minerais, sugerindo a utilização da mesma, preparada a partir dos rejeitos da pesca de água doce, como fonte proteica na formulação de ração para peixes.

Queer rap has been shining in the homophobic world of hip-hop lately, especially in the contemporary New York music scene. Considered by many as the new kids on the block, queer rappers have been breaking down mainstream ways of composing, delivering and enacting rap tunes by working on more outwardly feminine performances characterized by ambivalence, hybridity and defiance. In this paper, we focus on how Rico Dalasam, a contemporary Brazilian rap performer, radicalizes this type of rupture, engaging in what we have termed ‘abject aesthetics’. The latter constitutes a spectacular semiotic landscape, in which mixed sexualities, genders, races, ethnicities, clothing styles, hair styles, rhythms, languages and registers interact. In fact, transperformances and transidiomaticity dominate his work, which we approach through a scalar sensitive lens (CARR; LEMPERT, 2016) and metapragmatic indexicality (SILVERSTEIN, 1993) as we analyze the artist’s lyrics, performances and their reception by different audiences. In doing so, we shed light on the smuggling of semiotic resources which subverts the usual circulation of linguistic and non-linguistic goods across borders. In particular, we discuss how Dalasam’s deterritorializing-multisemiotic enactments confront modernist epistemological and linguistic regimes by subverting logocentrism. The analysis focuses on the transit between the so-called margin and center and on the enigmatic meanings generated by the mixture of languages and performances. As a whole, these aspects leave interactants in a state of uncertainty since the assembled resources are not directly intelligible in a conventional sense, most often preventing straightforward object-designation associations. However, this sense of indetermination does not necessarily prevent communication from taking place. We therefore argue that Rico Dalasam, by forging faltering ways with signs, orients to constant movement as a way of inhabiting the border and formulating alternative rules for re-existence. --- Original in English.

Tropical estuarine areas present microbial and geochemical conditions that have been pointed out as important conditions to trigger the mechanisms of mercury methylation improving its bioavailability to higher trophic levels. Despite the potential risk of these mechanisms to human health, few studies have reported in situ analysis in costal subtropical ecosystems, relating bacterial activity and mercury concentrations. In the present work we analyse the relationship between some relevant environmental parameters that may stimulate the bacterial activity and control mercury concentrations in the sediments of a tropical mangrove tidal flat. Forty-four samples were collected and analysed for total organic carbon, bacterial organic carbon, lipids, proteins, esterase activity and mercury concentrations and SEM/AVS. The redox potential, temperature and pH were also measured in situ. The results showed intense bacterial activity and increasing mercury levels when compared with local backgrounds. The use of SEM/AVS indicator recommended by USEPA as a criterium to check the sediment quality, did not show enough accuracy to predict the ecological bioavailability risk in sediments with high organic matter content. This methodology requires new approach to help decision making.

No que se refere ao narrador, pela primeira vez temos uma experiência radical de alteridade no sentido que o filósofo Lévinas dá ao termo. No que se refere à continuidade, podemos pensar Rodrigo S.M. como um outro da própria Clarice; há entre eles diferenças, mas estas se mostram mais como elementos da subjetividade profunda da própria autora. Já no que se refere à Macabéa, não se dá o mesmo; entre ela e Clarice/Rodrigo há diferenças radicais que não se resolvem apenas neste sentido. Ela é o outro negado em sua dignidade que, pelo seu existir, exige o ato de justiça que desfaça as condições que geram sua situação calamitosa. The study was conducted at a municipal school of Boa Vista/RR with the objective of analyzing the speeches in relation to issues of environment, education and society. Initially, images were presented to the students to attribute three words. The results were presented to two teachers and a manager through a semi-structured interview. In the fifth year there was a decrease in the repertoire of words in search of a "right" answer, without adjective unlike the 3rd and 4th years. There was a drastic reduction in the fifth year and even lack of aesthetic sense when analyzing the images. With regard to teachers and the manager, the emphasis was on the issues linked to the school knowledge, this element is predominant in relation to the knowledge obtained in other instances, such as the media. Studies of this nature can be constituted in relevant strategies as subsidies for the construction of educational practices in basic education.

Tebuthiuron is often used to control weed growth in sugarcane cultures. This herbicide is highly toxic and can persist in soil for up to 2 years according to its degradation half-life. Hence, its residual effect is highly hazardous for the environment and local habitants via leaching, surface runoff. Screening out of species of green manure as potential phytoremediators for tebuthiuron in soil, with and with no vinasse, accordingly is the scientific point of this study. Green manure species selected for the trial in greenhouse were jack bean [Canavalia ensiformis (L.) DC.], pigeon pea [Cajanus cajan (L. Millsp.)], velvet bean [Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC.)], and millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R.Br.], and Crotalaria juncea L. as bioindicator of this herbicide. The determination/quantification of height, stem diameter, and number of leaves in all plants were monitored, as well as other morphological traits for drafting any inference on biomass production. Moreover, ecotoxicity bioassays were performed from soil samples at the beginning and at the end of the experiment. Results showed preliminary evidence of effective phytoremediation capacity by M. pruriens and P. glaucum in soils with tebuthiuron, as the growth of C. juncea was sustained. Both Gompertz approach and principal component analysis predicted that these green manure species could grow healthier and for longer periods in soils containing tebuthiuron and vinasse and, thus, reduce physiological anomalies due to ecotoxicity. The implications of this study may aid in the implementation of cost-effective strategies targeting decontamination of tebuthiuron in sugarcane crops with vinasse application in fertigation.

RESUMO Com base na biopolítica do agora - um processo que envolve tanto a reocidentalização do mundo como a estabilidade dinâmica contemporânea - e em uma ideologia linguística performativa, este artigo relata uma etnografia da mobilidade em um aplicativo para encontros homoafetivos. Analisam-se performatividades escalares interseccionais de gênero, sexualidade e raça. São usados também os construtos teórico-analíticos de indexicalidade e escalas, que operam na compreensão de como os corpos são semiotizados no aplicativo. São focalizadas duas entrevistas etnográficas com dois participantes. Apesar da miríade de corpos e desejos semiotizados em uma dimensão acelerada, a matriz de inteligibilidade para os corpos de homens homoeróticos racializados em operação chama atenção para dois processos de projeções escalares. Esses remetem à reocidentalização do mundo tanto em relação a performatividades de masculinidade hegemônica como a performatividades racistas antinegros. Evoco a necessidade de pensar uma futuridade alternativa política radical em conjunto com uma visão crítica da biopolítica do agora.

ABSTRACT The present study evaluated the physiological and biochemical parameters of apple trees under different irrigation water depths in a semiarid region of Brazil. The experiment had a split-plot randomized block design. Irrigation levels (60, 80, 100, and 120% of the reference evapotranspiration - ET0) and two apple cultivars (Julieta and Princesa) were analysed in the experimental plots and the phenological stages (vegetative, flowering and fruiting) were analysed in the experimental subplots. The physiological characteristics evaluated included the chlorophyll index, relative water content, net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration, internal CO2 concentration, leaf temperature and instant carboxylation efficiency. The biochemical characteristics evaluated included the leaf contents of reducing sugars, total soluble sugars, and non-reducing sugars and proteins. The best biochemical responses were observed in the Princesa cultivar under 80% ET0 during the flowering and vegetative stages and under 120% ET0 during the fruiting stage. The best physiological responses for all phenological stages were observed under irrigation levels of 120% ET0 for both cultivars. The cv. Princesa demonstrated osmotic adjustment under water stress conditions during the phenological stages evaluated.

Abstract Knowledge of particulate system properties is very important in various industrial instances and the possibility of fast predicting the behavior of such systems is an important control tool. The specific surface area of simulated particulate systems was studied as a function of the sharpness parameter of the size distribution of the Gates–Gaudin-Schumann, Gaudin–Meloy and Rosin–Rammler equations. The results showed good statistical adherence, especially the Rosin–Rammler equation, in situations where it is the best descriptor of particle size distribution.
