Background and Objectives Osteoporosis is a multifactorial and slowly emerging global health problem. Along with menopause, one out of three women between the age group of 50 to 60 years in India suffers from osteoporosis. Indian women have an early age onset of osteoporosis as compared to their Western counterparts. The current study assessed osteoporosis knowledge and preventive practice among menopausal women. The study's objectives were to 1) assess the osteoporosis knowledge and preventive practice among women, 2) find the correlation between the knowledge and preventive practice among menopausal women, and 3) find the association of knowledge and preventive practice with selected demographic variables. Methods A quantitative nonexperimental research approach with a descriptive correlational survey design was adopted in the study. A total of 100 samples between the ages of 45 and 56 years were the participants. Data were collected using demographic proforma, a self-structured knowledge questionnaire, and a preventive practice checklist. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Results The majority of the menopausal women (65%) were between the age group of 53 and 56 years and 79% of menopausal women were having primary education, 77% of them were unskilled workers. Fifty percent of the participants had shown adequate knowledge with a median score of 12 and the remaining half of the participants had a knowledge score < 12. The knowledge score among women was 11.47 ± 2.4 with a maximum score of 17 and the minimum score of 5. With regard to the preventive practice, the participants were 20.12 ± 2.22. Conclusion The study showed a gross deficit in osteoporosis knowledge among menopausal women and they were following unhealthy practices in their lifetime. There is a need to prioritize designing appropriate awareness campaigns regarding osteoporosis among subjects who are at risk, according to their level of literacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background of the study: Cancers of the female reproductive tract and breast has a high incidence amongst Indian women. Cancer registries have also highlighted that more than 70% of cancers in females occur in the age group of 35-64, and that these cancers exercise an adverse influence on the productive role of women in our society. Chemotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that uses one or more anti-cancer drugs that can have severe adverse effects on the patient both during the therapy and for some time after. Title of the study: Information Booklet on Self-Care Management of Chemotherapy among gynecological Cancer Survivors at Selected Hospital. Objectives 1) To assess the knowledge on self-care management of chemotherapy among Gynecological cancer survivors 2) To determine the effectiveness of information booklet on self-care management of chemotherapy among Gynecological cancer survivors Hypothesis: H1: The mean posttest knowledge level will be significantly higher than mean pretest knowledge level on self-care management of chemotherapy among Gynecological cancer survivors. Methodology: Quantitative research approach and the design adopted was pre experimental in this study. The investigator selected total of 60 gynaecologic cancer survivors receiving chemotherapy through purposive sampling technique. The researcher collected the data from the participants with the help of validated knowledge questionnaire and demographic Performa information before administering self care management information booklet. The information booklet was comprised of side effects and management of chemotherapy with pictorial depiction. The posttest was conducted at the immediate subsequent cycle of chemotherapy. The obtained data were analyzed by using descriptive & inferential statistics. Results: The result of the present study showed that the mean post-test knowledge score (11.63) of gynecologic cancer survivors were significantly higher than their mean pre-test knowledge score (7.90). Background: UNICEF, WHO and WABA, along with the scientific community, strongly recommend initiating breastfeeding within a half-hour of birth. Evidence shows that early initiation can prevent 22% of all deaths among babies below one month in developing countries. Every newborn, when placed on her mother's abdomen, soon afterbirth, has the ability to find her mother's breast all on her own and to decide when to take the first breastfeed. This is called the'Breast Crawl'. Materials and Methods: An experimental approach with one group pre-test post test design was used for the study. The sample comprises of 60 nursing students who meets inclusion criteria were selected using Random sampling technique.pre test was conducted with structured knowledge questionnaire followed by administered the video assisted teaching programme on breast crawl. Post test was conducted after 7 days of intervention by using same tool Result: The collected data were analyzed using descriptive & inferential statistics The findings of the data showed that the mean post test knowledge of subjects were significantly higher than their mean pre test knowledge scores after the administration of video assisted teaching, ('t1 value 14.93, P> 0.05). No association was found Conclusion: A baby is born with many instinctive abilities which enable her to perform the Breast Crawl. Culture may be defined as a shared system of beliefs, values, and behavioural expectations that provide social structure for daily living. Much of the woman's behaviour during the postpartum period is strongly influenced by her cultural background. This study was conducted to identify the cultural practices among the postnatal mothers in selected hospitals at Mangalore. The data was collected from 200 samples between 17-09-12 and 03-11-12 in various hospitals at Mangalore. Descriptive survey research approach was adopted, and collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Distribution of the samples based on demographical characteristics revealed that 49% of the samples were in the age group of 25-29 years, 48.5% of the samples had primary education, 49.5% of the samples were from Muslim religion, 89% of the home makers, 65.5% of the joint family and 76% of the rural mothers were participated in the study. Majority of the mothers were consumed home medicine, restricted to use cold water, restricted to perform spiritual activities, 16.5% of the mothers had a practice of applying herbal medicine to hasten the cord to dry during the postnatal period. 59.5% of the mothers were following unhygienic practice that using a cloth soaked in baby's urine to remove the coated tongue. The study was conducted to explore the unique experiences of expectant fathers. The research approach used in this study was Phenomenology. Six expectant fathers who met the inclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling technique from the OPD unit of the Fr. Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangalore and a private antenatal clinic, Saurabh clinic in Mangalore. In depth interviews were conducted in a selected room in the antenatal clinic with all privacy. The study was conducted to identify the effect of foot reflexology on the quality of life among menopausal women employed in various schools from 01.08.2011 to 01.10.2011. An evaluative approach with one group pre-test post-test design was used for the study. The present study was conducted among various schools in Mangalore. The collected data from 117 samples were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Distribution of the samples based on the quality of life revealed that 78.6% had a good quality of life, 15.4% had an average quality of life and 6% had a very good quality of life. With regard to the menopausal symptoms, 55.6%, 24.8% and 19.7% experienced mild, moderate and severe symptoms respectively. 52 women with moderate to severe symptoms were selected and administered foot reflexology for 10 consecutive days. The mean post-test scores of the subjects in the quality of life was 59.43 were significantly greater than the mean pre-test score of 53.89 and the mean post-test scores in the menopausal symptoms was 16.82 which was significantly lower than the mean pre-test score of 21.82. The study also revealed a negative correlation (r= -0.653, p<0.005) between the quality of life and menopausal symptoms.
