Ketogenic dietary therapies (KDTs) are a safe and effective treatment for pharmacoresistant epilepsy in children. There are four principal types of KDTs: the classic KD, the modified Atkins diet (MAD), the medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) diet, and the low glycemic index diet (LGID). The International Ketogenic Diet Study Group recommends managing KDTs in children with epilepsy. However, there are no guidelines that address the specific needs of the Brazilian population. Thus, the Brazilian Child Neurology Association elaborated on these recommendations with the goal of stimulating and expanding the use of the KD in Brazil.

A busca por melhores índices zootécnicos e econômicos, frente aos desafios gerados pelo ambiente onde as aves são criadas, tem estimulado pesquisas relacionadas a modificações na estrutura dos galpões e nas dietas, na tentativa de amenizar os prejuízos causados pelas altas temperaturas sobre o desempenho de frangos de corte. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar os Índices de Conforto Térmico, sendo o ITU (Índice de Temperatura e Umidade) e o ITGU (Índice de Temperatura de Globo Negro e Umidade) de um galpão experimental de frangos de corte, localizado no município de São Cristóvão-SE. Foi utilizado um aparelho, desenvolvido e validado pelo Departamento de Engenharia Agrícola, para calcular e armazenar os índices de conforto térmico no período de sete semanas. Para analisar os valores dos índices de conforto térmico foram utilizadas cartas de controle, elaboradas utilizando o programa Minitab 19. De acordo com os resultados encontrados para ITGU, o Laboratório de Metabolismo de Aves (LBMA) apresentou as condições ambientais ideais para o desenvolvimento adequado de frangos de corte. Com relação ao ITU, os valores mostraram-se inconsistentes em relação aos sugeridos pela literatura.

O presente artigo teve por objetivo compreender, através da análise da seleção de experiências e das escolhas quanto aos modos de narrar, como estudantes e educadoras graduadas no curso de Pedagogia/Educação se inscrevem enquanto autoras de seus textos autobiográficos e mobilizam estratégias de distanciamento e auto-objetificação. Para tanto, após abordagem teórica acerca de temas como autoria, consciência individual, excedente de visão e auto-objetivificação, na análise, foram discutidos enunciados de três trabalhos acadêmicos de universidades de Porto Alegre/RS e Região Metropolitana publicados no segundo semestre de 2020. Nossa proposta buscou dialogar, principalmente, com os textos Por uma metodologia das Ciências Humanas (BAKHTIN, 2017) e Para uma filosofia do ato responsável (BAKHTIN, 2010). Como resultado de nossa investigação, destacam-se estratégias como a escolha lexical (metaforização, emprego de adjetivos) para semiotização e valoração dos eventos narrados; o emprego de primeira pessoa e o diálogo aberto como formas de instanciar a ética e a responsabilidade pelos posicionamentos assumidos, bem como materializar previsões quanto ao auditório social dos textos produzidos; e a construção de um projeto de texto no qual os agentes partícipes dos atos recuperados são categorizados e suas ações são reacentuadas em diálogo com outras narrativas. A reflexão aqui proposta justifica-se pela importância de se dar visibilidade aos discursos contemporâneos enunciados pelos sujeitos que constituem a Educação Básica e às valorações produzidas quanto à sua identidade e ao escopo de sua atuação profissional, buscando, em um compromisso ativo e ético, lançar um olhar atento, exotópico e empático aos educadores, principalmente aqueles que se encontram em uma etapa inicial de sua formação docente

The drastic decline of bees is associated with several factors, including the immune system suppression due to the increased exposure to pesticides. A widely used method to evaluate these effects on these insects' immune systems is the counting of circulating hemocytes in the hemolymph. However, the extraction of hemolymph from larvae is quite difficult, and the collected material is frequently contaminated with other tissues and gastrointestinal fluids, which complicates counting. Therefore, the present work established a high quality and easily reproducible method of extracting hemolymph from honeybee larvae (Apis mellifera), the extraction with ophthalmic scissors. Extraction methods with the following tools also were tested: 30G needle, fine-tipped forceps, hypodermic syringe, and capillaries tubes. The hemolymph was obtained via an incision on the larvae's right side for all methods, except for the extraction with ophthalmic scissors, in which the hemolymph was extracted from the head region. To assess the purity of the collected material, turbidity analyses of the samples using a turbidimeter were proposed, tested, and evaluated. The results showed that the use of ophthalmic scissors provided the clearest samples and was free from contamination. A reference range between 22,432.35 and 24,504.87 NTU (nephelometric turbidity units) was established, in which the collected samples may be considered of high quality and free from contamination.

Accurate taxonomic delimitation in ecological research is absolutely critical as studies that seek to evaluate levels of biodiversity and qualify human effects on the environment are rapidly undertaken. Coloration is a widely used morphological character for species identification through dichotomous keys. However, taxonomic identification based upon coloration is often unreliable because this character can exhibit high degree of intraspecific variation. In this study, we use a DNA barcoding approach to investigate the interpretation of two color morphs (yellow or dark) in the eucerine bee Melissodes nigroaenea. Our hypothesis is that if significant genetic divergence exists between each morphotype of M. nigroaenea, coloration reflects two distinct evolutionary lineages within this species, which may require taxonomic revision. Our alternative hypothesis is that, if genetic divergence is low between each morphotype of M. nigroaenea, we can attribute this variation to color polymorphism. Our Bayesian phylogenetic reconstruction revealed that both yellow and black individuals clustered together in a highly supported phylogenetic group. Additionally, pairwise genetic distances between M. nigroaenea color morphotypes were lower than 3%. These results indicate that both mesosome color morphs correspond to intraspecific variability within the same evolutionary unit. Together, our results indicate that mesosome coloration is not a reliable character for taxonomic differentiation of these Melissodes species, and that the incorporation of DNA barcoding approaches to taxonomic classification can help resolve some of the problems that originate while relying on purely morphological taxonomy.

Abstract Introduction: The introduction of a healthy lifestyle for the elderly from regular physical exercise is linked to physical independence and social wellness. The increasing integration of technology, including in the elderly’s health area, extends an innovative and interactive approach towards the specific aspects of aging. Objective: To report the development of the application "Idoso Ativo” (Active Aging) with proposed exercises for the elderly population’s lower limbs. Methods: The study belongs to the type ‘original paper’ which describes the development and accomplishment of the application for the health of the elderly. The study had the participation of an elderly model to perform exercises and video recording. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of UCB and supported by CNPQ. Results: The Software development proposal involved interdisciplinary work for the selection of exercises for posture, balance and gait, development of the application and the use of a specific programming language with presentation of exercises on screens for easy understanding for the elderly public. Conclusion: The application developed can be adopted as a proposal in scientific studies in the physical therapy area and applied as an innovative resource combining health promotion and disease prevention.

O advento das organizações virtuais e dispersas aumenta a demanda por sistemas colaborativos e contribui para as discussões relacionadas ao gerenciamento de conflitos, que são inerentes ao trabalho colaborativo e podem significar oportunidades nos processos de aprendizado e colaboração. Entretanto, acreditamos que as abordagens atuais de gerenciamento de conflitos em sistemas colaborativos não proveem mecanismos para estimular tais processos. O objetivo deste trabalho é responder a seguinte pergunta: como os conflitos vêm sendo gerenciados em sistemas colaborativos na última década? Para isto foi realizada uma revisão sistemática da literatura para responder de forma criteriosa este questionamento de pesquisa, usando uma metodologia confiável, rigorosa e auditável. Os principais resultados apontam que os processos definidos nesta última década têm como foco sua detecção e resolução, ou seja, o conflito não vem sendo gerenciado como uma oportunidade de aprendizado e colaboração, e sim como um problema a ser resolvido. Estes resultados apontam caminhos abertos para pesquisas relacionadas ao tema, como a definição e implementação de modelos, processos e ferramentas com o objetivo de melhorar a colaboração.

A ketogenic diet is an important therapy used in the control of drug-refractory seizures. Many studies have shown that children and adolescents following ketogenic diets exhibit an over 50% reduction in seizure frequency, which is considered to be clinically relevant. These benefits are based on a diet containing high fat (approximately 90% fat) for 24 months. This dietary model was proposed in the 1920s and has produced variable clinical responses. Previous studies have shown that the mechanisms underlying seizure control involve ketone bodies, which are produced by fatty acid oxidation. Although the pathways involved in the ketogenic diet are not entirely clear, the main effects of the production of ketone bodies appear to be neurotransmitter modulation and antioxidant effects on the brain. This review highlights the impacts of the ketogenic diet on the modulation of neurotransmitters, levels of biogenic monoamines and protective antioxidant mechanisms of neurons. In addition, future perspectives are proposed.

The objective was to evaluate the performance of broilers from 8 to 42 days of age, fed with diets supplemented with active vitamin D3. It was used 648 broilers, males, Cobb®, distributed among six treatments (0.0; 0.5; 1.0; 1.5; 2.0 and 2.5 D3/kg of ration) using a randomized block design, with six repetitions of 18 birds each. At 8 and 42 days of age each experimental unit and the rations were weighted in order to evaluated the performance (feed intake - FI, weight gain - WG and feed conversion - FC). Later, three broilers/repetition were removed and slaughtered in order to measure the absolutely weight, carcass and noble cuts yield. The average carcass, breast, thighs, drumsticks and wings were 70.17%, 37.09%, 14.08%, 18.31% and 10.44%, respectively. The levels of active vitamin D3 did not influence (p>0.05) performance, nor the carcass and noble cuts of broilers. Including up to 2.5 ?g/kg in ration of active vitamin D3 did not influence (p>0.05) the performance and carcass and noble cuts yield of broilers.

Objetivo: Determinar os fatores que influenciam na adequação da terapia nutricional enteral em uma unidade de terapia intensiva. Métodos: Estudo prospectivo e observacional realizado em uma unidade de terapia intensiva entre 2010 e 2012. Foram incluídos pacientes >18 anos em terapia nutricional enteral exclusiva por ≥72 horas. As necessidades de energia e proteínas foram calculadas segundo protocolo da unidade. Foram coletados diariamente dados relacionados à nutrição enteral, causas de não conformidade e exames bioquímicos. Resultados: Dentre os pacientes internados na unidade, 93 foram avaliados, 82% iniciaram a terapia nutricional enteral precocemente e 80% atingiram a meta nutricional em 60 anos apresentaram menor porcentagem de recuperação da via oral em relação aos mais jovens (p=0,014). Conclusão: O início precoce da terapia nutricional enteral, e a adequação do volume administrado, de energia e de proteínas estiveram de acordo com as diretrizes. A inadequação dos balanços energético e proteico parece estar associada à resposta inflamatória aguda (proteína C-reativa elevada). A principal causa de interrupção da oferta da terapia nutricional foi a pausa para extubação.

Foram conduzidos seis ensaios de metabolismo no Departamento de Zootecnia da Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) no ano de 2002, com objetivo de avaliar a composição química e nutricional de 8 alimentos protéicos e 10 energéticos. Para o primeiro ensaio, foram selecionados animais de peso-vivo médio de 40,4 kg, sendo analisado o farelo de algodão, soja micronizada, farelo de soja, farelo de linhaça, farinha de pâncreas suíno, farinha de vísceras suína, milho comum, milheto em grão e moído, resíduo de bolacha, óleo de canola, óleo de linhaça, óleo de soja, gordura de coco e gordura suína. Para o segundo ensaio, foram selecionados animais de 50,2 kg e foi analisado o farelo de amendoim e milho QPM. Um total de 72 suínos machos, castrados e mestiços (Landrace x Large White), foram utilizados nos ensaios, e a metodologia adotada foi a da coleta total de fezes e urina. Desta forma, cada alimento foi testado em três repetições. Os valores obtidos de coeficiente de digestibilidade da proteína bruta (CDPB), valores de energia digestível (ED) e energia metabolizável (EM) para os alimentos protéicos de origem vegetal foram 66,2%, 2480 kcal/kg, 2190 kcal/kg, para farelo de algodão; 77,73%, 2365 kcal/kg, 2289 kcal/kg, para o farelo de girassol; 72,3%, 2880 kcal/kg, 2580 kcal/kg para farelo de linhaça; 86,5%, 3430 kcal, 3360 kcal/kg para farelo de soja 46% proteína bruta; 86,8%, 4580 kcal/kg, 4350 kcal/kg para soja micronizada; 81,2%, 3292 kcal/kg, 3146 kcal/kg para o farelo de amendoim. Para os alimentos protéicos de origem animal foram 47,3%, 3470 kcal/kg, 3310 kcal/kg para farinha de pâncreas suína; 81,3%, 3660 kcal/kg, 3535 kcal/kg para farinha de vísceras suína. Para os alimentos energéticos de origem vegetal foram 84,4%, 3220 kcal/kg, 3185 kcal/kg para a farinha de bolacha; 85,3%, 3480 kcal, 3320 kcal/kg para o milho moído; 81,2%, 3308 kcal/kg; 3257 kcal/kg para o milho QPM; 86,2%, 3213 kcal/kg, 3048 kcal/kg para o milheto moído; 83,5%, 3123 kcal/kg, 2950 kcal /kg para o milheto em grão inteiro. Para óleos e gorduras os valores de energia digestível (ED) e energia metabolizável (EM) foram 8630 kcal/kg, 8340 kcal/kg para o óleo de canola; 8380 kcal/kg, 8220 kcal/kg para o óleo de linhaça; 8670 kcal/kg, 8340 kcal/kg para o óleo de soja; 8110 kcal/kg, 7960 kcal/kg para a gordura de coco; 8630 kcal/kg, 8280 kcal/kg para a gordura suína. De uma maneira geral, os dados analisados mostram variações na composição química, digestibilidade e valores energéticos dos alimentos, em relação aos citados nas tabelas brasileiras e estrangeiras, e valores citados por outras pesquisas referenciadas nas literaturas consultadas. Os valores obtidos no presente trabalho, além de fornecerem subsídios para aumentar as informações do banco de dados como forma de contribuir na elaboração de uma tabela nacional de alimentos para suínos, também poderão possibilitar melhorias técnicas para a formulação de rações para suínos.Six metabolism trials were conducted in the Animal Science Department at University of Lavras- (UFLA) with the objective to evaluate the chemical and nutritional composition of 8 protein and 10 energetic feeds utilized in swine rations. In the first metabolism assay , the pigs of means of 40.4 kg were utilized and the feeds cotton meal, micronized soybean, soybean meal, linseed meal, swine pancreas meal, swine viscera meal, common corn, ground and grain millet, backery residue, canola oil, linseed oil, soybean oil, coconut fat and swine fat were analyzed. In the second assa, the pigs with means of 50.2 kg were utilized and the feeds as peanuts meal and QPM corn were analyzed. All over the metabolism assays , a total of 72 barrows from crossbred (Landrace x Large White) were used, the methodology of the total collection of feces and urine were utilized. This way each feeds were tested in three replicates. The values of crude protein digestibility coefficient (CPDC), digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) for the proteic feeds from vegetal by-products were 66,2%, 2480 Kcal/kg, 2190 Kcal/kg for cottonseed meal; 77,3%, 2365 Kcal/kg, 2289 Kcal/kg for sun flower meal; 72,3%, 2880 Kcal/kg, 2580 Kcal/kg for linseed meal; 86,5%,3430 Kcal/kg., 3360 Kcal/kg for soybean meal 46% of crude protein; 86,8.8%, 4580 Kcal/kg, 4359 Kcal/kg for micronized soybean; 81,2% 3292 Kcal/kg, 3146 Kcal/kg for peanuts meal. For the protein feeds from animal by-products were 47,3%, 3470 Kcal/kg, 3310 Kcal/kg for swine pancreas meal; 81,3%, 3660 Kcal/kg, 3550 Kcal/kg for swine viscera meal. For the energetic feed from vegetal by-product were 84,4%, 3220 Kcal/kg, 3185 Kcal/kg for biscuit meal; 85,3%, 3480 Kcal/kg, 3320 Kcal/kg for ground corn; 81.2%, 3308 Kcal/kg; 3257 Kcal/kg for QPM corn; 86.2%, 3213 Kcal/kg, 3048 Kcal/kg for ground millet; 83.5%, 3123 Kcal/kg, 2950 Kcal/kg for whole grain millet. For both oils and fats, the values of digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) were 8630 Kcal/kg, 8340 Kcal/kg for canola oil; 8380 Kcal/kg, 8220 Kcal/kg for linseed oil; 8670 Kcal/kg, 8340 Kcal/kg for soybean oil 8110 Kcal/kg , 7960 Kcal/kg for coconut fat; 8360 Kcal/kg, 8280 Kcal/kg for swine fat. In general, the data analyzed shown variations in the chemical composition, digestibility and energetic values of the feeds relative to those cited in the Brazilian and foreign tables and values reported by other researchers. The value obtained, in addition to furnishing subsides to increase information for data bank relative to the making of table for national swine feed table also will be able to contribute to tecnal improvement in formulating swine rations.
